- Chapter 34 - He Loves You So Much, His Eyes Only See You
“Sweetie, if you’re tired, sleep for a while. I’ll wake you when we arrive.” Fu Chenyan held her close, gently kissing her hair as he whispered soothingly.
Li Muli nodded, yawning as a few involuntary tears escaped her eyes.
“Sleep, my dear,” he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her eyelids.
Li Muli leaned against the man’s chest and closed her eyes, exhausted from the day’s events.
“Muli, I missed you so much!” Meng Ruo rushed over and enveloped Li Muli in a tight bear hug.
Li Muli released the man’s hand and returned the embrace. “Ruo Ruo, welcome back!”
“I’m starving. Let’s get some barbecue!” Meng Ruo clung to Li Muli’s arm, pouting playfully before leaning in to whisper, “Are you in a relationship?”
Li Muli smiled faintly and glanced at Fu Chenyan as she introduced them. “This is my boyfriend, Fu Chenyan.”
“And this is my good friend, Meng Ruo.”
Fu Chenyan nodded in acknowledgment.
Meng Ruo linked arms with Li Muli and walked ahead, quietly complaining, “Muli, your boyfriend seems really intimidating.”
Li Muli chuckled softly and explained, “No, he just looks a bit stern.”
“So, is he the one you’ve liked for so long?”
Li Muli nodded with a smile.
“That’s great.”
Meng Ruo thought of her own situation with Gu Shi, and her eyes dimmed momentarily.
“Ruo Ruo, did you and Gu Shi have a fight?”
Meng Ruo pursed her lips. “No, he’s too busy chasing other girls.”
The two chatted and laughed animatedly during the car ride, while Fu Chenyan sat beside them, sulking and occasionally glancing at Li Muli.
First, it was Qiao Yi, and now Meng Ruo.
Fine, everyone’s here to steal his wife.
Li Muli remained completely unaware, seemingly trying to make up for the two years they had missed.
“Here, here! The food stall!” Meng Ruo exclaimed, then quickly covered her mouth, embarrassed by her outburst.
Fu Chenyan observed the crowded, chaotic environment, the bustling stalls and enthusiastic vendors, without showing any change in expression.
“Are you okay with this, A Yan?” Li Muli asked, turning to him.
Fu Chenyan nodded, opened the car door, and stepped out with his long legs.
This was the kind of place he had never set foot in again after those earlier days.
Yet, it was also the only place where he had ever felt a sense of warmth and humanity.
Now, stepping back into it, that warmth remained, but the one person in the world who had truly cared for him was gone forever.
Fortunately, his sun had now come to his side.
Fu Chenyan watched the girl walking ahead of him, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
A bright sun, a vibrant and lively girl.
Just as he was lost in thought, Li Muli turned back and said to Lin Yuan, “Lin Yuan, make sure to protect President Fu. Don’t let anyone bump into him.”
“Understood, Miss Li,” Lin Yuan replied.
Fu Chenyan’s smile deepened. His sun was shining on him, every moment of every day.
“So, the one you’ve always liked is from the Fu family? Wow, it looks like he really loves you. He seems so intimidating, but when he looks at you, his eyes are dripping with honey,” Meng Ruo whispered into Li Muli’s ear.
“And his eyes only see you.”
“I’m so jealous.”
Li Muli gently stroked Meng Ruo’s hair. “You’ll find someone like that too.”
Meng Ruo smiled but didn’t respond.
When they arrived at their destination, the four of them took their seats. Meng Ruo flagged down a server and ordered, “Hello, we’d like ten chicken steaks, ten beef steaks, ten gizzards, twenty duck intestines, five grilled lamb chops, and twenty skewers of grilled lamb.”
“And a can of beer.”
Lin Yuan was slightly stunned by the long list of orders.
How could such petite girls eat so much?
Li Muli raised an eyebrow, it was exactly as she had expected. Meng Ruo was a staunch meat lover.
“Come eat with me,” Meng Ruo said instinctively, seeing the two men sitting quietly to the side.
Fu Chenyan gave a slight nod and picked up a lamb skewer, following Li Muli’s lead.
Lin Yuan did the same.
Before long, Li Muli and the other two had stopped eating and were simply keeping Meng Ruo company as she continued to enjoy her skewers and beer.
“Lili, have a drink with me,” Meng Ruo said, handing a can of beer to Li Muli.
Fu Chenyan gently stroked the girl’s hair and said softly, “Baby, you can’t drink. Your period is coming soon.”
Li Muli’s cheeks flushed slightly pink. How could Mr. Fu be so openly affectionate in public?
“Understood, Mr. Fu.”
Meng Ruo was already quite drunk. “Lili, that idiot Gu Shi is so shallow. He only likes girls with curvy figures. If I hadn’t seen it yesterday, they would’ve gone upstairs together.”
“He’s so vulgar. Ugh, men.”
“I ran out, and he was still tangled up with that woman.”
“That woman was all over him, and he seemed to be enjoying it. He didn’t even worry about me.”
“Gu Shi, you bastard.”
“Lili, how could he do this? That woman is just a bit fuller and more well-endowed than me. Waaah…”
Listening to the girl’s incessant cursing, Li Muli suddenly realized something.
Meng Ruo liked Gu Shi.
She had never considered it before.
She thought their closeness was due to their childhood bond, a friendship that no one else could compare to.
And Meng Ruo had never shown any signs of it.
So her chasing after Gu Shi and accompanying him abroad were all because she liked him.
“Lili, you know what? I wanted to keep it a secret forever. At least I’m important to him. But when I saw that scene, I suddenly realized I’m just the girl next door to him.”
“He doesn’t like my type, Lili. I’m so sad.”
“Why doesn’t that bastard Gu Shi think about why I’ve been sticking to him all these years?”
“Why doesn’t he ever look back at me?”
“I thought if I went abroad with him for two years, he would finally see me.”
“But he never looks back, Lili.”
Meng Ruo kept rambling on. Li Muli held her and patted her back to comfort her. “Ruo Ruo, if you want, we can try. Maybe Gu Shi just doesn’t get it yet.”
“But Lili, I’m afraid we won’t even be able to stay friends.”
Li Muli continued to reassure her, “That won’t happen. Gu Shi isn’t that heartless. You’re the most important person to him.”
“Okay, Lili.”
“Then, Ruo Ruo, let’s go back.”
“Thank you, Lili.” Meng Ruo nodded, still sniffling.
“Lin Yuan, help Ruo Ruo,” Li Muli said, glancing up.
Meng Ruo waved her hand in refusal. “No, no, I can manage.”
Staggering ahead, Meng Ruo walked unsteadily. Worried she might fall, Li Muli had no choice but to hold her arm.
Fu Chenyan’s expression darkened slightly. His precious girl, whom he cherished to the bone, was tirelessly taking care of someone else.
He believed his treasure should be pampered and adored by everyone.
Once they returned home, Fu Chenyan said coldly, “Aunt Zhang, take care of Miss Meng.”
Then he bent down, picked up the girl who was still following the drunk friend, and carried her upstairs. In a low voice, he said, “The housekeeper will take good care of her. Don’t worry about her. How about paying a little more attention to me instead?”
Li Muli burst into a soft laugh. “Little Fu Yan, are you getting jealous again?”
“Honestly, a beauty like me is adored by everyone. Good thing I’ve cultivated strong self-restraint, or you’d have stewed yourself to death in jealousy.”
“Little Fu Yan, we’re practically glued together every day outside work hours.”
“Look at this my lips are still swollen from your doing.”
With playful teasing, Li Muli watched, amused, as the man’s expression shifted with each of her words.
