- Chapter 3 - For What? "You"
“President Fu, these are the documents about Miss Li that you asked me to investigate.”
“She’s scheduled to audition for Zhou Xiao’s film ‘Longing for Home’ this afternoon.”
Fu Chenyan casually flipped through the files.
“What’s on the schedule for this afternoon?”
“You have two meetings and a golf appointment with President Song.” Assistant Lin replied like an emotionless machine.
“Are we invested in this production?” Fu Chenyan asked nonchalantly while browsing through the documents.
The sudden change of topic caught Lin Yuan off guard.
Fu Chenyan furrowed his brows slightly. “Hmm?”
That was the prelude to his impatience.
Lin Yuan quickly explained, “President Fu, we don’t have any involvement in the entertainment industry.”
“Then we do now.”
The offhand remark seemed to carry no particular weight.
Lin Yuan was somewhat surprised but responded promptly.
The aloof President Fu had finally developed an interest in a woman.
He should have realized it the first time he was asked to investigate that girl.
Who knew whether such a beauty encountering President Fu would bring fortune or misfortune?
But that was none of his concern.
At the audition.
Li Muli wore a simple, elegant dress modest and dignified, yet it subtly stirred one’s imagination.
Her face was lightly made up.
Innocent yet exuding nobility and grace.
Tang Tang, walking over, spotted Li Muli sitting in the audition waiting area and approached her.
“Lili, you’re here to audition too?”
Li Muli looked up and smiled faintly. “Yes.”
“Are you still auditioning for the supporting female role?” The question carried a hint of condescension.
Li Muli frowned slightly but didn’t respond.
She hoped some people would know their place and not provoke certain individuals.
Like her.
Her temper wasn’t the best.
“Next, Li Muli.”
The staff’s voice pulled her out of her thoughts. Adjusting her mindset, she stepped forward.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she entered, she saw a man of striking presence seated in the center.
The man gazed at her with a playful look, as if his eyes were subtly conveying something.
The screenwriter’s eyes lit up at the sight of the approaching girl.
Pure and clean, yet enchanting and alluring.
They say true beauty lies in the bones, not the skin, but this girl possessed both.
And the two qualities didn’t seem to conflict.
She was truly a natural, gifted by the heavens.
The female lead’s character initially detached and indifferent, yet ultimately resolute and decisive required just such a beauty to portray.
If her acting skills were up to par, she would undoubtedly be the perfect choice.
Noticing the screenwriter’s fixed gaze, Fu Chenyan lightly tapped the table with his fingertips.
The screenwriter snapped back to attention, only to see the man reach for the documents.
No one dared to comment.
Seeing that the influential figure beside him remained silent, the director began setting the scene.
“The scene where the female lead, after learning that the male lead, whom she has loved for over a decade personally killed her father, confronts him with heartbreak and despair, demanding to know why.”
Li Muli nodded in understanding. That scene was the ultimate test of acting skill.
The heartache, the despair it was incredibly difficult to portray.
She slowly walked up to Fu Chenyan, smiling charmingly. “Then I’ll have to trouble President Fu to act as a human prop for me.”
Both the director and screenwriter frowned. Another woman trying to climb the ladder using shortcuts.
Unfortunately, she had targeted the wrong person.
That aloof, untouchable tycoon would only be more repulsed. Such a promising talent, yet she chose the most contemptible means to advance.
They had already written her off in their minds.
But the slap in the face came so quickly. That big shot stood up and nodded, saying, “Alright.”
As soon as the words fell, Li Muli immersed herself in the role.
“Why did you do it?”
She didn’t cry; her eyes were hollow, as if she could no longer feel any emotion. She lifted her hand, wanting to grab the person in front of her, wanting to say something more.
But in the end, she only twitched her fingers, her face cold, and finally closed her eyes.
After a moment, she spoke again, “Why didn’t you kill me along with them?”
“Because you were afraid Song Zhiruo couldn’t manage the harem, and with my father dead, I no longer posed a threat to you. So you kept me alive to clean up her mess, is that it?” The pain in her heart felt as though it would tear her apart, but she forced herself to stay upright.
After a long pause, the corners of her lips slowly curled into a faint smile as she spoke, word by word, “Qi Yu, you truly disgust me.”
It seemed the pain had already numbed her.
The young man she had first met no longer existed. She had always believed that young man was gentle and kind, and his actions had led her to mistakenly think he was the one she had fallen in love with.
But it turned out it was only her love that had gilded him in gold. The person she had loved had never truly appeared from start to finish.
A single, clear tear slowly traced its way down her cheek.
Everyone held their breath, immersed in the girl’s sorrow.
It seemed, at that moment, she truly was Chu Yuexi.
The greatest charm of an actor is to make others believe they are the character.
“Director, screenwriter, Mr. Fu, I’ve finished my performance,” the girl said obediently, bowing.
Hearing her voice, everyone snapped back to reality.
“Brilliant,” the screenwriter was the first to applaud with a smile.
The director cautiously glanced at the big shot, “What do you think, Mr. Fu?”
Fu Chenyan strode back to his seat with his long legs, “If you all think it’s fine, then it’s fine. No need to worry about me.”
Everyone present was sharp-witted and quickly grasped the underlying meaning in his words.
The director beamed, “You performed well. Go back and prepare properly. This young lady has a bright future ahead.”
“Thank you, Director and Screenwriter, for your recognition.”
“And thank you, Mr. Fu, for acting alongside me,” she added, secretly winking at Fu Chenyan where no one could see.
Then she turned and left.
Fu Chenyan let out a soft chuckle, his eyes gradually filling with excitement.
This girl was becoming more and more admirable.
Such intense emotions, would there ever come a day when they were directed at him?
He suddenly felt very eager to find out.
“What’s wrong? Didn’t you get the part?”
Seeing the girl return to the car in silence, Zhuang Lin asked.
“Director Lu’s scripts have always been very demanding. It’s no big deal if you didn’t get it.”
The girl looked up with a sly smile, “I got the part!”
Zhuang Lin poked her forehead with his finger, “You little rascal.”
Li Muli giggled playfully, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw a man stepping out of the entrance, his long legs about to step into a black Rolls-Royce.
An idea sparked in her mind, and she walked toward him.
“Mr. Gu, have you ever heard the saying that if you run into someone three times in a row, it’s fate?”
Gu Chenyu stopped and raised an eyebrow but didn’t respond.
“In honor of this wonderful fate, Mr. Gu should do me the honor.”
The man scoffed lightly, “And why should I?”
The girl smiled, her eyes curving like crescent moons, “Because I’m pretty.”
“Get in the car.”
It was as good as a silent agreement.
The dawn of victory beckoned to her.
Rubbing her hands together, she prepared to flirt.
The two in the back seat sat in silence.
Li Muli slowly leaned closer, her breath gently brushing against the man’s face.
The man’s Adam’s apple moved involuntarily as an ambiguous atmosphere gradually filled the air.
The girl before him had now completely transformed into an enchantingly alluring woman.
Her chest rose and fell gently, revealing breathtaking scenery in full view.
Fu Chengyan’s eyes darkened as he forcibly suppressed the restlessness within. “For what reason?” he asked.
The girl parted her crimson lips and spoke deliberately, “You.”
Still completely unafraid, she extended her palm again, pressing it against the man’s firm chest.
“Even through the clothes, I can feel President Fu’s impressive physique.”
“There’s something even better. You could give it a try.”
Her beautiful eyes curved slightly as her red lips parted. “It would be my honor.”
