- Chapter 2 - Wanting to Carry the Little Fox Away
Perhaps, he was her destined calamity.
Even after being reborn, even with clear knowledge of everything, she would still feel her heart flutter at his slightest provocation.
People always end up falling for the same person repeatedly.
But Fu Chenyan, in this lifetime, I am determined to have you.
I want you to love me, I want you unable to live without me, I want you utterly captivated.
So, who is really the prey here?
Perhaps both are.
It just depends on who falls deeper first in this game.
“Lili, tonight is the wrap party for ‘Stars Like You.’ Get ready, don’t forget. I’ll pick you up later.”
“Okay, Sister Zhuang.”
Li Muli obediently agreed.
She, Li Muli, was currently an 18th-tier minor celebrity.
So far, she had only one aired work, in which she played the second female lead, the stumbling block in the male and female leads’ love story, the white lotus character that viewers loved to hate.
Though not famous, she was constantly plagued by scandals.
[Look at that seductive demeanor, who knows how much she practiced off-screen?]
[Who knows how many surgeries she’s had on her face? Just look at those fox-like eyes clearly the result of plastic surgery.]
[I heard she has connections with the editing team. Otherwise, why would they keep adding her scenes while cutting so many of my favorite sister’s parts?]
Comments like these were everywhere online with a simple search.
What had she done wrong? She was just a little bit more beautiful than others.
Truly, this was the burden of being a beauty.
Amidst all the negative comments, there were still one or two defending her.
Probably her fans who adored her looks.
[Hands off my sister we don’t engage. Everyone knows your favorite sister is only famous for her wide-eyed stares.]
[Seriously? Are people still hating on our Lili’s looks? Even as a girl, I adore Lili’s appearance.]
[Same here. Sister Li’s looks are absolutely stunning that delicate face, that slender waist, those long legs. Who wouldn’t love them?]
She resented it. Why, even after being reborn, did she still have to work?
She just wanted to idle away and wait for death. Boo-hoo, she was a good-for-nothing.
Oh well, she shouldn’t let down Sister Zhuang’s trust in her or her fans’ adoration.
She would work hard, aiming to win the Best Actress award early and get her hands on a certain man.
Win him over, play with him, then dump him.
Hah.
After all, in this life, she knew the plot developments in advance.
With her god-like perspective, how far could she be from becoming a winner in life?
Tsk, she was kind of looking forward to it.
Even so, she still had to obediently attend the wrap party as a background prop.
Life wasn’t easy Lili sighed.
Li Muli wasn’t the lead and had no intention of stealing the spotlight, so she quietly sat in a corner, praying no one would pay her any attention.
“‘Stars Like You’ has wrapped up smoothly. Everyone has worked hard. Tonight, let’s drink until we drop,” Director Chen started off.
Everyone raised their glasses and toasted Director Chen together.
Director Chen didn’t refuse and downed his drink in one go.
“Don’t hold back, everyone. Have a good time.”
“Lili, you acted well,” the male lead, Bai Huaian, proactively toasted Li Muli with praise.
“Thank you, Senior Bai. I’ll keep working hard,” Li Muli replied with a slight, charming smile.
“Brother Huaian, if I have any questions in the future, can I ask you often?” the female lead, Tang Tang, asked, batting her eyes.
Bai Huaian frowned slightly but replied out of politeness, “Sure.”
“Thank you, Brother Huaian!”
Bai Huaian got entangled and had no further chance to chat with Li Muli.
Which suited her just fine for some peace and quiet.
Sitting in the corner, Li Muli reminisced about her past life and pondered the present. Once she got home, she needed to sort out the events of her previous life to avoid forgetting them over time.
Before she knew it, she had already drunk several glasses, and her chest felt a bit tight. She decided to step out for some fresh air.
She took out her phone and sent a message: Zhuang Jie, I think I’ve had a bit too much to drink. Can you come pick me up? Love you!
Li Muli slightly bowed and stood up to leave.
Struggling to steady herself, she walked out of the private room.
“So handsome,” Li Muli murmured, her eyes sparkling as she gazed at the man before her.
“Let go,” came a cold and indifferent tone.
“Wow, even your voice is so attractive.”
Li Muli had completely lost her ability to think. She seemed drunk, yet not entirely.
Unaware, her hands were still clinging to the man’s chest.
“Hey, handsome, how much for a night?”
“I have money,” she said while rummaging through her bag.
Fu Chenyan’s brow furrowed deeper and deeper. This was getting more and more absurd.
And the woman in front of him was swaying unsteadily as she fumbled through her bag.
He gritted his teeth, bent down, and pulled the girl into his arms, afraid the drunkard might fall.
What a mischievous little fox.
So quickly, the little fox had fallen into his hands again.
But this time, he still had to let the little fox escape.
Yet the person in his arms refused to stay still. Fu Chenyan grew irritated by her squirming and warned in a hoarse voice, “Stop moving.”
At that moment, Li Muli paid no heed to the man’s warning. She reached out and continued to playfully mess with his chest.
Her hand slowly traveled up to his Adam’s apple, and Gu Chenyu’s entire body began to grow restless.
He really wanted to.
He was starting to regret it. He should have pushed her away the moment she clung to him.
He, a man known for his calm and composure, had been making exceptions repeatedly since meeting this woman.
Regretful yet tightening his grip, he held the girl firmly in his arms.
Forget it. She was truly his kryptonite.
“Sir, um, Lili might be drunk, I…” The man’s icy glare swept over, startling Zhuang Lin into forgetting what she was about to say.
“Drunk? Or deliberately seducing?”
His words were piercingly cold.
Zhuang Lin mustered her courage to explain, “I’m sorry, sir, Lili isn’t that kind of person.”
Fu Chenyan let out a light scoff and released the girl.
Zhuang Lin immediately supported the girl in front of her, putting some distance between them and the man who was radiating coldness. This man was not someone they could afford to provoke.
“Fine, take her back. She won’t be so lucky next time.”
“Okay, thank you, sir,” Zhuang Lin replied politely.
Fu Chenyan glanced at the now-quiet girl and strode away.
So slender and soft, with a lovely texture.
Li Muli.
Fu Chenyan admitted that she attracted him.
And the self-control he prided himself on seemed almost insignificant when it came to her.
That sense of familiarity, that allure, that temptation he couldn’t ignore it.
This wasn’t a good sign.
Attraction and curiosity were the prerequisites for falling for someone.
But it wasn’t entirely a bad thing, either.
Suddenly, one day, a little fox had barged into his world. Strangely, he didn’t reject her at all. Instead, he wanted to keep that little fox by his side.
Tsk, a heartless little fox, all tease and no responsibility.
Zhuang Lin fell silent for a moment before she couldn’t help but say, “Are you trying to be the death of me? I was only gone for a moment. How did you manage to provoke him?”
Playing dead.
Still playing dead.
Li Muli was gradually sobering up and timidly spoke, “I guess, maybe, perhaps, I was captivated by his looks.”
“Do you even know who he is?”
“Fu Chenyan.”
“You knew, and you still provoked him?”
“He’s just too handsome, I couldn’t help it,” Li Muli whispered in explanation.
Zhuang Lin glared at her with exasperation. “You’d better hope he doesn’t hold it against you.”
Zhuang Lin knew full well that girl must have done it on purpose if she were truly drunk, she wouldn’t have just draped herself over a strange man like that.
She really was such a handful.
Yet Li Muli dropped another bombshell: “I want to chase after him.”
Hearing this, Zhuang Lin nearly stumbled.
“Why?” She knew her well enough Li Muli wouldn’t make such a big decision just because of a man’s status.
“I like him.”
“Are you serious?”
“Yeah, love at first sight.”
“Alright then, just make sure to protect yourself,” Zhuang Lin nodded understandingly.
While young, one should love recklessly at least once, only then can youth, which comes but once in a lifetime, be truly lived without regret.
“Zhuang Jie, you’re not going to scold me?” Li Muli asked in surprise.
“You silly girl,” Zhuang Lin chuckled affectionately.
“When we get back, I’ll get President Fu’s contact info for you. With a beauty like you, you’ll win over President Gu in no time.”
“Then we won’t have to work so hard anymore.”
Touched, Li Muli replied in a sweet, syrupy voice, “Aww, thank you, my beautiful and kind-hearted Zhuang Jie.”
