- Chapter 24 - Hubby Takes Wife and Baby to Play Games
Fu Chengyan’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly as he scooped the girl into his arms. “Hubby’s taking wifey and baby to play games.”
Li Muli buried her face in the man’s chest, looking utterly defeated.
Great. Now she was reliving her embarrassing moment all over again.
Listen to her say, thank you.
As Fu Chengyan set her down on the bed, Li Muli suddenly remembered, “Where’s Yiyi?”
“Auntie Zhang probably helped her get settled. She should be resting in the guest room now,” Fu Chengyan explained.
Li Muli’s eyes darted around before she hopped off the bed and dashed out. “I’m going to check on her.”
Fu Chengyan gritted his teeth in frustration. Why were there so many interruptions disturbing their time together?
But resignedly, he followed the girl out. Li Muli was about to ask Auntie Zhang which room Qiao Yi was in when Fu Chengyan’s voice sounded from behind, “It’s room 204 on the second floor. Baby, slow down.”
Hearing his words, Li Muli vanished in a flash.
“Yiyi,” Li Muli called, knocking on the door.
“Come in,” a voice replied from inside.
Li Muli entered and saw Qiao Yi sitting on the bed. Qiao Yi sniffled and hugged her tightly. “Wahh, how could you abandon me in such an unfamiliar place?”
She had sobered up quite a bit after being left on the sofa earlier. Knowing that Fu Chengyan had brought her back, she wasn’t worried about her safety.
Li Muli patted her back comfortingly. “I came to keep you company after sobering up.”
“Wahh, how could Boss Fu bear to let you go?”
Li Muli coughed lightly. “Actually, he’s not that clingy.”
“Alright, alright. So, are you going to sleep with me tonight?” Qiao Yi raised an eyebrow.
“Of course!!” Li Muli declared with righteous determination.
Completely forgetting who, just minutes ago, had claimed she was only going down to check on her.
Qiao Yi teased her with a grin, “Come on, beauty, the bed is warmed up for you.”
Li Muli climbed onto the bed and lay down beside her.
Suddenly, she remembered what Qiao Yi had said while drunk: “I think I’ve fallen for Huo Ling.”
Li Muli fixed a serious gaze on her and asked gravely, “Did you say you’ve fallen for Huo Ling?”
Qiao Yi awkwardly rubbed the back of her head. She had blacked out from drinking.
She had originally planned to tell her best friend only after successfully pursuing him.
But since it had slipped out, she decided to explain, “Yes, Lili.”
Seeing her earnest expression, Li Muli asked, “Are you serious?”
Qiao Yi nodded. “Mm, Lili. You know I’ve never liked anyone before.”
Li Muli froze. Precisely because she knew, she understood the feeling of a first crush and the significance of the first person one falls for.
Because she knew, she had allowed it to happen before, and as a result, she had been deceived in body and heart by a scumbag. In the end, she died in a car accident, and her only best friend had leaped from a tall building.
While Li Muli was lost in thought, Qiao Yi spoke again, “Lili, do you know how we met?”
“That day, I was waiting for my food at a restaurant. When I turned around, I saw him standing in the light, smiling at me.”
“In that moment, I felt like I finally understood what it meant to have your heart flutter. I felt like my love had arrived.”
Li Muli listened quietly. The light in Qiao Yi’s eyes made it impossible for her to say anything to dissuade her.
“After that, I went to ‘coincidentally’ run into him every day. He was working part-time there. Whenever he saw me, he’d smile with the corners of his lips lifted. Over time, we started chatting occasionally and naturally exchanged contact info.”
“Then I found out he was working to support his studies he’s in a combined master’s and Ph.D. program. We started sending good morning and good night messages every day and sharing bits of our daily lives.”
“I think I might have fallen for him, and I feel like he likes me too. Sometimes when we eat together, he’ll wipe the oil from the corner of my lips and say gently, ‘Sis, you’ve got something there.’ But he never oversteps.”
“When I’m on my period, he doesn’t just tell me to drink more hot water. He’ll come find me and say with a smile, ‘Sis, I bought you some brown sugar water.'”
“When I throw a tantrum, he’ll laugh and pat my head, saying, ‘Even when you’re acting spoiled, you’re so adorable.'”
“Somehow, without me realizing, my life has become filled with his presence.”
“Lili, you know how much I love those sweet, younger guys who call me ‘sis.'”
“So, Lili, I want to pursue him.”
Qiao Yi poured out all her thoughts in one breath, leaving Li Muli momentarily speechless.
The light in her eyes was too bright, her words too sweet.
If it were her, and Fu Chenyan treated her that way, she’d probably surrender too.
Gentle people are always hard to resist.
Unfortunately, sometimes that gentleness is just a facade, a disguise to achieve a goal.
She was certain that Huo Ling was that kind of person.
But she couldn’t bring herself to say it, nor did she know how.
She couldn’t just blurt out, “Yi, Huo Ling is a scumbag, don’t fall for him.” That would make her sound crazy.
So, she would find a way to expose his true colors and let Yi see him for who he really was.
In this lifetime, they both deserved to be happy.
“Mhm, Yi, we’ll both find happiness,” Li Muli said, stroking Qiao Yi’s hair.
Qiao Yi teased playfully, “Lili, come on, share with your sis, is President Fu really that intense? Do you often feel that mix of pain and pleasure?”
Li Muli pulled the covers over her face and turned over. “Let’s sleep.”
“Hehehe, Lili baby, don’t be shy. We’re all close here.”
Li Muli refused to engage.
What a terrible friend! Such a pervert!
Qiao Yi was still muttering, “Lili baby, with such a great figure, legs so fair and long, such a slim waist, and such beautiful assets. I’m so jealous of President Fu.”
Li Muli buried her head, ignoring her, and threatened in a muffled voice, “If you keep talking, I’m going back.”
Qiao Yi laughed and surrendered. “Okay, okay, I’ll stop.”
“Hmph, let’s sleep.”
The room fell completely silent. Before long, Qiao Yi was asleep, but Li Muli kept tossing and turning.
Mr. Fu, left alone in an empty bed without his soft, sweet girl, without her in his arms, could only stare wide-eyed at the ceiling.
Finally resigning himself, he got up and went downstairs.
He gently knocked on the girl’s door. Hearing the sound, Li Muli’s heart stirred, and she tiptoed to open it.
As expected, it was that clingy Fu.
“Baby,” his low voice tinged with a hint of grievance.
Afraid of waking Qiao Yi, Li Muli stepped out and asked, “What’s wrong?”
The man stepped forward and pulled her into his arms, burying his face in the crook of her neck, his tone both pitiful and coaxing. “Baby, I can’t sleep without you.”
Li Muli stroked his hair. “I promised to stay with Yi.”
Hearing this, his expression grew even more pitiful. “But you promised me too, baby. I want a hug.”
“My darling, stay with me, please?”
“Baby,” he murmured, nuzzling her neck. “I need you to hold me.”
He gave off the vibe of a big, needy dog craving its owner’s affection.
At this moment, Li Muli’s heart was completely captivated by the man’s repeated pleas of “I want a hug from my baby,” and she couldn’t help but curl her lips helplessly.
Her big shot was a real clingy one.
Oh well, she’d just have to spoil him herself.
But she still had a mischievous urge to tease him: “If my baby is satisfied, then I’ll go back with you.”
“How about I make sure my baby is satisfied once we’re back?”
