- Chapter 19 - Baby Wants to Hear You Say You Love Me
“Mu Li, you’re back. Come and eat. I’ve prepared all your favorite dishes today,” Father Li immediately called out when he saw the person entering.
Looking at the table full of light dishes steamed sea bass, stir-fried pork with king oyster mushrooms, and moo shu pork, Li Muli curved her lips slightly: “Thank you, Dad.”
She was addicted to spicy food and couldn’t enjoy a meal without it.
But it was Li Muqing who preferred light flavors. Knowing she wasn’t as likable as her younger sister, she had always adapted to others.
Gradually, everyone said the two sisters were becoming more and more alike, even their tastes were identical.
Behind this was the compromise of the one who went unnoticed.
But she was an outsider, so it didn’t matter.
“Oh, so you still remember to come home? I thought you were so busy fooling around with some wild man outside that you forgot where home is,” Wu Zhuyi sneered as she sat down, swaying her body.
“Keep it down,” Father Li glared at her.
Wu Zhuyi shrugged, her tone dripping with sarcasm: “I’m not wrong. Your own daughter hasn’t come home for months, not even a phone call, but she keeps posting about some wild man on public platforms.”
“Shut up!” Father Li threw down his chopsticks and roared.
Li Muli sat quietly, casually picking up some food and eating it as if the commotion around her didn’t exist.
After a moment, she spoke: “You didn’t specifically call me back just to watch you put on a show, did you?”
Father Li’s expression shifted repeatedly; he felt that his once obedient daughter was slipping out of his control.
“Mu Li, watch your tone. Let’s finish eating first.”
Li Muli set down her chopsticks and spoke calmly: “Lately, I’ve been wondering, am I really your biological child?”
Having lived a second life, she had to be extremely cautious.
Wu Zhuyi’s eyes flickered, but she still replied: “Of course you are.”
Yet Li Muli cleverly caught her hesitation.
This woman, Wu Zhuyi, definitely knew the truth. The answers could only come from her.
Memories from her previous life suddenly flooded her mind.
“Li Muli, I really hate you. Since we were kids, your mother had everything she wanted, and when she occasionally tossed me a scrap, I was supposed to be grateful. Why?”
“Hah, so what if you’re more talented than my daughter? Now you’re just lying here, half-dead.”
“How pitiful. I wonder if Jiang Yu would feel heartbroken seeing her daughter like this? Oh, wait, if she cared, she wouldn’t have abandoned you in the first place.”
“A bitch’s daughter is still a bitch. Chasing after a man who doesn’t want you, and now he’s nowhere to be seen. Tsk, tsk, he’s probably getting cozy with that Miss Bely right now.”
“Hah, Li Shiming still wants to find you a well-matched man. I always knew he never got over that bitch all these years, and now he’s dressing it up as an arranged marriage. Men, hahahaha.”
“You’re so lucky, managing to hook up with Mr. Fu. But you’re already dying, and everything will belong to Muqing.”
“Jiang Yu, twenty years ago you lost to me, and twenty years later, your daughter lost to mine your acting career, your music drafts, your man. Hahahahaha.”
“Mu Li, Mu Li, what’s wrong?” Li Shiming’s calls pulled Li Muli out of her thoughts, but she didn’t retract the hatred in her eyes, sharply glaring at the person across from her.
Wu Zhuyi shuddered violently; the person before her almost overlapped with the one from twenty years ago.
Li Muli lowered her head, reining in her hatred, and forcefully calmed her emotions: “It’s nothing. If you have something to say, just say it.”
Li Shiming picked up some food and placed it in her bowl, smiling as he spoke, “When will you bring your boyfriend home to meet your parents?”
“Yes, yes,” Wu Zhuyi immediately chimed in. It had to be said in that moment, that little wretch had startled her, forcing her to keep wearing her gentle mask.
“No need. Two families don’t speak as one. I’ll pack my things today and won’t be coming back after this,” Li Muli replied as she stood up and refused, then slowly made her way upstairs.
Her bedroom was no different from when she had left, except that a layer of dust covered everything, clearly untouched for a long time.
As expected, Li Muli crouched by the cabinet to organize her belongings. Truthfully, she didn’t have many things, nor many fond memories.
After all, how many memories could someone unloved truly have?
A dried rose petal, long hidden in a drawer, suddenly fell to the floor. Li Muli reached out, picked it up, and brushed off the dust, a slight smile touching the corners of her lips.
Roses, the place where her heart first stirred.
The boy the beginning of a lifelong obsession.
It was all because the boy she met in her youth was too dazzling, making her unable to forget him, and planting deep roots of affection long ago.
Her love for roses no one knew it started because of him.
In this lifetime, she once asked him why he gave her roses.
He said, “Roses symbolize passion, ardor, intense love, and ‘I love you.'”
By chance, yet perfectly suiting her preferences.
Her Mr. Fu was such a good man, how could he not come to see her at a life-or-death moment because of Tan Yueli?
She refused to believe it.
Suddenly, she longed to see him the faith and motivation of her youth, and now her armor and courage.
The ringtone of her phone broke the quiet abruptly. Li Muli’s beautiful eyes filled with laughter as she answered the call, hearing the voice on the other end.
“Baby, are you all packed? I’m coming to pick you up.”
“I miss you so much.”
“Mhm, wait for me twenty minutes. Baby, talk to me.” The man didn’t ask what had happened, simply staying with the girl, listening whether she vented or complained anything so she wouldn’t be alone, secretly sad.
Li Muli chuckled softly. “Baby wants to hear you say you love me”
Her sorrowful mood vanished like mist as she imagined Mr. Fu’s flustered expression, feeling an urge to tease the man on the other end.
She heard him chuckle lightly, as if deliberately lowering his voice. “Baby, I thought I said enough last night.”
Li Muli immediately caught his meaning, her cheeks flushing pink as she set the phone on the table and continued packing.
“Hmm? Baby, why aren’t you talking? I’ll say it many more times tonight.”
Li Muli curved her beautiful eyes, being deliberately unreasonable. “Last night was for yesterday’s me. Today, you have to say it to today’s me.”
“Mhm, my good girl, I love you.”
“My good girl will have everything she wants.”
“My good girl is such a beautiful baby.”
“I’ll always be here, my good girl.”
“I want to kiss and hold my good girl, and also make love.”
“I want to try it with my good girl in every place, leaving our marks.”
“I want to cherish my good girl properly.”
Seeing that his words were getting increasingly bold, Li Muli quickly interrupted, “I’m all packed! I’ll wait for you outside.”
“Mhm, my good girl, tonight we’ll start in the bathroom.” The man continued expressing his affection unabated.
Li Muli: Speechless. A classic case of digging her own grave.
Li Muli glanced around everything she needed to take was packed.
And with that, she officially bid farewell to this place.
Before leaving, I noticed the trash bin was spotless, and it suddenly hit me that the discarded music drafts she had thrown away were gone.
A cold smirk curled on my lips so the scheme had been set in motion this early.
What a foolish life I had lived, no wonder no one cared when I died.
I truly deserved it.
