From Trashy A to the Heiress’s Little Son-in-Law After the Idol Competition (GL, ABO) - Chapter 9
She looked at Xiao Yanjin as if seeing her for the first time, her demeanor eerily reminiscent of their initial blind date.
Xiao Yanjin wondered if she owed her money.
“You didn’t see how poor the other applicants’ skills were. I just got lucky,” Xiao Yanjin said, still debating whether to tell her the truth.
Ji Yunuo remained silent. She had already noticed during the audition.
“Wait!” Xiao Yanjin called out as Ji Yunuo turned to leave.
“What is it?”
“Be careful when you change clothes.” Xiao Yanjin decided it was better to warn her. For some reason, the thought of her being bullied didn’t sit right with her.
Ji Yunuo tilted her head slightly, allowing Xiao Yanjin a glimpse of her clean, elegant profile.
A cool voice responded, “You shouldn’t be here for the audition.”
Xiao Yanjin had meant well, but Ji Yunuo had not only deflected but also subtly insulted her.
“Why?”
“Someone like you should stay low-key. Not everyone can handle public scrutiny and ridicule.”
Xiao Yanjin paused. Was Ji Yunuo worried that her original identity as a notorious Alpha would attract backlash once the show aired?
Public opinion could indeed drive people to despair some succumbed, others faded into obscurity.
But why would Ji Yunuo care about her?
How ridiculous.
“Fine, I’ll leave if that’s what you want. But here’s the problem, ” Xiao Yanjin replied bluntly, “I can’t afford the penalty fee!”
Ji Yunuo glanced at her and walked away without another word.
Xiao Yanjin returned to her seat just as He Rou and Shi Zhengyi finished their performances.
Ji Mian announced, “Among you, two have received an A rating.”
The room held its breath. The two were undoubtedly He Rou and Shi Zhengyi, but no one knew who would be named the top A.
Ji Mian smiled. “Congratulations, He Rou! Your rating is A!”
Zeng Heshi cheered loudly, “I knew it! He Rou was always going to be the top A!”
Shi Zhengyi’s breath hitched as she stared at He Rou’s triumphant smile, a spark of fury igniting in her eyes.
He Rou didn’t shy away from her gaze. With effortless grace, she sauntered over, her expression turning sultry as she mouthed a few words.
Shi Zhengyi understood immediately, What’s with that stinky face, Alpha? Watch how I put you in your place!
In the following rounds, Lan Yuanning, the gentle Omega with a refreshing voice and graceful dance moves whom Xiao Yanjin had met earlier and Chu Luo, a striking short-haired Alpha skilled in singing, dancing, and rap, stole the spotlight. Their popularity soared, and unsurprisingly, both earned A ratings.
Lan Yuanning captivated countless Alphas the moment she stepped on stage, Omegas were no exception.
Who wouldn’t love such a tender, mature beauty?
“Thank you, judges and fellow contestants, for listening to my original song,” Lan Yuanning said softly after her performance.
Lan Zi smiled. “Your voice is lovely, and the lyrics are well-written.”
Ji Mian added, “Clearly, you’ve trained hard.”
“Thank you.” Lan Yuanning’s smile remained gentle, her demeanor poised. Though naturally shy, she accepted the praise with grace, showing no trace of embarrassment.
Dressed in a flowing white chiffon dress, the girl had already proven herself as delicate as a jasmine blossom, her voice clear and soft, like spring rain falling upon jasmine petals.
Jiang Nan stared wide-eyed, unable to resist grabbing Xiao Yanjin’s arm. “This sister is so pretty,” she said. If only she could talk to her better yet, train together. How wonderful would that be?
Xiao Yanjin puffed out her cheeks. Pretty, sure, but… her gaze shifted to Ji Yunuo. Well, Ji Yunuo wasn’t gentle at all.
After Chu Luo finished her performance, she pointed at the trainees below the stage, her eyes locked onto the cold-faced Ji Yunuo.
With a dazzling smile, she declared, “I’ll make sure you remember me.”
“Ahhhh, I’m going crazy!!” Zeng Hesh gasped, her face flushed. “Chu Luo is just too cool!”
Xiao Yanjin narrowed her eyes. Just another try-hard alpha.
“Next up, trainees from Sing & Go Entertainment and Changfeng Film & Television, please prepare for your opening.”
It was finally Xiao Yanjin’s turn. She strode forward with her teammates, stepping onto the stage under dozens of scrutinizing gazes.
“So that’s Xiao Yanjin?”
“Oh my god, she actually joined the survival show?”
“She looks really pretty.”
“Pretty? More like all looks, no skill. She’s probably just here to mess around.”
“With the Xiao family bankrupt, she’s probably selling herself to pay off debts.”
Even those who had never met Xiao Yanjin had heard of her reputation, scumbag alpha, spoiled rich kid, bankrupt and desperate. The words were sharp and unmistakable.
Every pair of eyes assessed her without restraint.
Xiao Yanjin knew their disdain wasn’t just about her reputation, it was about her ability.
Because her reputation was that of a reckless heiress who preferred partying over studying, her skills were naturally doubted.
But she brushed off the insults, treating them as criticisms for the original owner of this body. She had her own path now, and this one didn’t suit her. No matter what, she’d coast through this mess to the end!
Ji Yunuo glanced at Xiao Yanjin before silently looking away.
Joining the competition with such a scandalous background, how disgraceful!
Changfeng Film & Television, as the name suggested, was a production company. Its two trainees had both played minor roles in the company’s web dramas, and one was even a music school graduate, so her singing was undoubtedly strong.
As for Xiao Yanjin’s teammates, Jiang Nan wasn’t particularly talented but had gotten in through sheer determination. Zeng Hesh had some dance experience, though nothing outstanding, just average.
Both groups were underdogs, but the audience’s attention was drawn to the one with the highest controversy.
That controversy was Xiao Yanjin.
“Just three useless amateurs,” two people whispered nearby, though Xiao Yanjin ignored them.
“I’m so nervous! It’s my first time singing and dancing in front of so many people,” Jiang Nan fretted, on the verge of tears.
“Don’t worry. Just think of it as payback for CEO Zhang,” Xiao Yanjin said without a hint of anxiety. In her past life, she’d often busked on the streets to make ends meet. For a performer, even a crowd of thousands shouldn’t make you falter, because the stage is yours to own.
“Please welcome the representatives from both companies,” the announcement rang out like a beam of light, both thrilling and intimidating.
Changfeng’s duo performed a simple duet, competent but unremarkable, neither flawed nor outstanding.
“Now, let’s welcome the trainees from Sing Back and Forth Company,” Ji Mian announced.
The contestants below began applauding enthusiastically, clearly curious about what performance Xiao Yanjin would use to impress the judges.
“Xiao Yanjin, you got this!” A bright voice cheered for her from the crowd.
Xiao Yanjin instinctively glanced toward Ji Yunuo, but the latter’s expression was indifferent, cold as ice.
Xiao Yanjin sighed in relief, she knew the cheer hadn’t come from Ji Yunuo but from He Rou.
“Hello everyone, we are the trainees from Sing Back and Forth!” Xiao Yanjin, being the tallest, stood in the middle of the trio.
“Hello, judges and fellow contestants. My name is Jiang Nan, from the water towns of Ye City. My special skill is doing twenty consecutive somersaults,” Jiang Nan introduced herself briefly.
Xiao Yanjin twitched her lips. Twenty somersaults? Seriously?
“Hello, judges and contestants. My name is Xiao Yanjin…” Before she could finish, murmurs rose from the audience again.
Ji Mian stifled a laugh. Her wife had mentioned that this Alpha had even gone on a blind date with her younger cousin. She was also known as a scumbag Alpha, ostracized by the Ji family for a long time. But now, she seemed oddly… simple-minded.
“Please begin your performance.”
Before this, Xiao Yanjin and her two teammates had debated what to perform.
Jiang Nan was indecisive, leaving the choice entirely to the others.
Zeng Heshi wanted a unique song that would leave a lasting impression.
In the end, they chose a song beloved by the masses, one that would surely make everyone happy.
And that song was Good Luck Comes!
“Good luck comes, wishing you good luck!
Good luck brings joy and love!
Good luck comes, we welcome good luck!
Riding fortune’s tide to prosperity across the seas!
Fold a thousand paper cranes, tie them with red ribbons…”
As expected, after their performance, smiles bloomed on the faces of the contestants below.
Shi Zhengyi nodded approvingly and clapped loudly. “The yangko dance moves were excellent.”
“We’ve finished our performance. Please give us your evaluations,” the three said in unison. Xiao Yanjin quietly smiled to herself. For a group performance, she couldn’t afford to slack off, but given her teammates’ average skills, their rating wouldn’t be high.
Ji Mian asked, “Do any of you have individual talent performances?”
Individual showcases were a golden opportunity not only could they earn extra points, but every contestant longed for this segment.
After Jiang Nan and Zeng Heshi performed, it was Xiao Yanjin’s turn.
Just then, the dance mentor, Wei Ge, suddenly spoke sternly, “To be honest, I’m very dissatisfied with your performance.”
Xiao Yanjin raised an eyebrow. Why wait until her solo to say this?
“What’s wrong, mentor?” Jiang Nan asked timidly.
“What are you all here for? To perform circus tricks and get screen time?” Wei Ge’s tone was icy. They had been recording nonstop for hours, and exhaustion was evident on everyone’s faces. He had hoped for dazzling performances to lift the mood, but after the last A-grade evaluation, things had only grown duller and more half-hearted.
“Especially you, Xiao Yanjin,” Wei Ge said, his gaze sharpening on her.
Xiao Yanjin’s heart skipped a beat. She was being called out so why didn’t she feel the slightest bit guilty?
