From Trashy A to the Heiress’s Little Son-in-Law After the Idol Competition (GL, ABO) - Chapter 78
That evening during dinner, Wei Qin and Ji Zhiye were already discussing where to go for their next trip.
Since getting married, they had honeymooned across half the globe and were genuinely running out of ideas.
Ji Yunuo and Xiao Yanjin returned from shopping and began preparing for dinner.
Wei Qin paid them no mind, cooing sweetly, “Ye Ye, how about the Alps?”
“It’s a bit cold there, and the altitude is quite high. I’m worried you might get altitude sickness.”
Wei Qin continued, unfazed, “It can’t be that bad. We were perfectly fine when we went to the Himalayas before.”
Xiao Yanjin frowned slightly. Was the Himalayas the mountain she knew? What did they even do there, sledding?
Ji Yunuo asked, “Are you two traveling during the May holiday?”
Wei Qin still hadn’t heard her daughter’s question, tugging at Ji Zhiye’s sleeve while pointing at a spot on the map. “How about an island getaway? It’ll be warm around May, just perfect.”
Ji Yunuo: “…”
Xiao Yanjin couldn’t help but laugh. Who would’ve thought her sister would become practically invisible at home?
“Sister,” Xiao Yanjin cleared her throat and called out loudly. Instantly, the two engrossed in discussion turned their heads.
Seizing the moment, Xiao Yanjin prepared to enact the bet she and Ji Yunuo had agreed on the night before.
She casually picked up a basket and opened it, revealing two small, fragrant cakes, one a chocolate soufflé, the other a fruit cake.
They had spent the afternoon baking at a patisserie, intending to have them taste-test whose cake was better. The tastier one would naturally win.
Ji Yunuo stared coldly at the two cakes, recalling an unpleasant discovery she had made at the bakery.
Her inability to cook stemmed from both genetics and habit. Even while studying abroad, no matter how independent she was, her meals remained inedible. She mostly survived on fruit salads.
Whenever Wei Qin visited her dorm and saw how thin she had become, her heart ached. Ignoring Ji Yunuo’s protests, she insisted on hiring a personal chef for her.
As a result, the apartment Ji Yunuo rented was purchased by the Ji family, and the kitchen was expanded. Neighbors could smell a different gourmet aroma every day.
Her lack of culinary talent was likely inherited from Wei Qin, who couldn’t cook, and Ji Zhiye, whose dishes were mediocre at best.
Meanwhile, after that variety show, Xiao Yanjin had devoted herself to mastering all kinds of cuisines, breakfast dishes, Sichuan, Zhejiang, and Cantonese cuisine, even grilling and desserts.
Of course, Xiao Yanjin hadn’t told Ji Yunuo she had experience with pastries.
All she cared about was winning.
Xiao Yanjin tied an apron around Ji Yunuo, even making a pretty bow at the back. When Ji Yunuo turned around, her usually composed voice came out muffled, “Xiao Yanjin, you’re choking me.”
“Oh, sorry.” After apologizing, Xiao Yanjin suddenly looked up and changed the subject, “Sister, do you think the bow is too tight, or ” She leaned in, whispering like a dream, “Do you think I’m tight?”
Ji Yunuo didn’t blush. When she was fully focused on winning, no environment, person, or words could faze her.
Just like during that variety show when they had to eat chocolate sticks regardless of the audience watching or whether it was live-streamed, all that mattered was victory.
Ji Yunuo turned and tied an apron around Xiao Yanjin, her voice icy, “Focus on the task. Talk less, and keep your mouth tightly shut.”
Xiao Yanjin: “…” Her method had actually failed!
The bakery staff member walked over with a smile and asked, “Would you like me to guide you through the process?”
“No need!”
Both women answered in unison.
Xiao Yanjin sneered, “What we want is fairness and justice, relying on our own brains and hands!” As she spoke, she pulled out her phone and copied the cake tutorial from it.
Sensing the tension, the staff member tactfully walked away, not wanting to become part of this soon-to-be-married couple’s little game.
Ji Yunno meticulously whisked the egg whites, but even after ten minutes, they showed no signs of turning white. Xiao Yanjin couldn’t help but burst into loud laughter beside her.
“Hahahahaha!”
Ji Yunno’s veins bulged as her ears throbbed from the noise.
“Shut up.”
Xiao Yanjin pouted, “If sister tells me to shut up, I’ll shut up. But your dear Yanjin still wants to remind you, there’s an electric mixer right there. If you keep doing it this way, you might not finish until nighttime.”
Ji Yunno paused, perhaps feeling a bit embarrassed since the tutorial hadn’t mentioned this. Unbeknownst to her, every short video might have been edited or taken hours to complete, so her lack of knowledge was understandable.
With slight irritation, she continued whisking the egg whites with chopsticks.
Xiao Yanjin didn’t dare speak anymore, she knew Ji Yunno was angry.
Of course, this minor unpleasantness was quickly smoothed over by Xiao Yanjin.
Apologizing in the car, coaxing her wife, and planting sweet kisses Ji Yunno wasn’t one to hold grudges anyway. She only said, “Don’t tell anyone about this.”
Xiao Yanjin couldn’t resist her sister’s coquettishness and immediately hugged her to comfort her.
Upon returning to the Ji family mansion, they had the two mothers serve as judges.
Wei Qin: “Did you two make these?”
Xiao Yanjin smiled slyly, “We were just about to let our mothers taste them.”
Wei Qin continued obliviously, completely missing her daughter’s livid expression.
“I’ve never seen Nuo Nuo cook before. Yanjin makes me amazing breakfasts every day with all sorts of variations, she must be the winner.”
“Honestly, I’m a bit scared to try Nuo Nuo’s cake. What if I get food poisoning?”
As the two whispered among themselves, Ji Yunno stood nearby like a piece of charcoal gradually burning up yet the aura she emitted was icy.
Xiao Yanjin suddenly felt the temperature around them drop sharply and couldn’t help shivering.
After their discussion, the two finally began tasting.
First, they tried the soufflé that looked burnt but was actually chocolate-flavored. Their expressions first twisted into frowns before suddenly relaxing dramatically. Xiao Yanjin couldn’t figure out what their reactions meant.
Next, they sampled the fruit cake topped with cranberries and mangoes. Appearance-wise, the fruit cake was undoubtedly the winner.
Finally, the two announced, “The chocolate soufflé wins.”
“Yay!” Xiao Yanjin cheered and clapped, but then her applause gradually faded as she froze. “The soufflé?”
Wei Qin nodded, “The fruit cake was too sweet, we didn’t like it. The soufflé had just the right amount of sugar, soft and fragrant without any burnt taste at all.”
Xiao Yanjin blinked, “That was made by sister.”
Wei Qin and Ji Yeye looked utterly shocked. “Nuo Nuo can actually make desserts now? Our daughter is so talented!”
Xiao Yanjin: “…”
Jiang Nan arrived at Lan Yuanning’s residential complex. Today, the sun burned unusually harshly.
Without an umbrella, Jiang Nan could only shrink into the shade of the entrance.
It wasn’t until evening that Jiang Nan finally caught sight of Lan Yuanning’s figure.
The streetlights cast a gentle glow around the Omega, scattering sparks of starlight. From afar, Jiang Nan hurried over, her heart suddenly aching.
Even if Lan Yuanning’s voice had recovered, she could no longer sing with the same effortless control as before and right now, it hadn’t even healed yet.
But she was fiercely determined. Having graduated from a prestigious university, she quickly landed a job as a producer at a music company, thanks to her fanbase and Ji Yunuo’s recommendation. She specialized in composing and writing lyrics, only this way could she keep her passion alive.
“Why are you here?” Lan Yuanning signed.
Jiang Nan had spent the past few days learning sign language just for this moment. She smiled. “I asked Shenya where you lived. Wanted to surprise you. You won’t kick me out, right?”
Lan Yuanning smiled softly. “Of course not.”
Jiang Nan grinned, her eyes sparkling like stars.
Soon, they reached the sixth floor, the top of this modest apartment complex. Lan Yuanning’s home was small but impeccably clean, with potted orchids blooming on the balcony, their delicate petals bathed in moonlight.
“Were you waiting long?” Lan Yuanning asked, slipping off her knitted cardigan.
Jiang Nan watched as the Omega revealed a flowing white dress, looking even more gentle, as if moonlight and orchids had taken human form. Her cheeks warmed. “Yeah.”
Lan Yuanning’s heart ached for her. She poured a glass of water. “You could’ve come to the company or texted me. I’d have left early.”
Jiang Nan bit her lip. “I didn’t want to bother you at work. Shenya said you’ve been really busy. I was afraid texting would distract you.”
Lan Yuanning chuckled. “It’s not that serious.”
After a brief silence, Lan Yuanning asked, “I heard you left the entertainment industry. Are you working at your family’s company in Yecheng now?”
Jiang Nan nodded.
Truthfully, she had wanted to stay in the industry but she had a selfish wish: to become stronger.
“Hungry?” Lan Yuanning asked next. “I’ll cook for you.”
Jiang Nan shook her head. “No, no, I already ate.”
“You waited this long, no way you’ve eaten.” Lan Yuanning smiled and ruffled her hair, the faintest hint of jasmine drifting into Jiang Nan’s senses. “I just got off work too. Haven’t eaten either.”
She turned and headed to the kitchen.
Jiang Nan’s heart pounded wildly. She immediately texted Xiao Yanjin:
I’m in Yuanning-jie’s apartment now.
But I don’t know how to keep the conversation going.
At that moment, Xiao Yanjin was finishing the last of Ji Yunuo’s cake.
She grinned at Ji Yunuo. “Jiejie, your baking is amazing.”
Ji Yunuo smirked back, pride gleaming in her eyes.
Just say you just arrived in Lancheng and have nowhere to stay. Ask Yuanning-jie if you can crash at her place.
Jiang Nan’s eyes widened.
Isn’t that too much?
It’s fine. Yuanning-jie wouldn’t think you’d try anything.
She’d worry about He Rou before she’d worry about you.
Jiang Nan: “…”
A short while later, Lan Yuanning returned with a bowl of noodles.
“Eat up.”
Jiang Nan took a deep breath and blurted, “Yuanning-jie, what if I don’t have a place to stay?”
To Xiao Yanjin, the line sounded painfully awkward.
But Lan Yuanning didn’t seem to mind.
She always thought Jiang Nan was adorable and kind-hearted, always eager to help others. Even when people were harsh with her, she never turned negative her temper was as sweet and soft as cotton candy. She rarely troubled others, yet was always quick to lend a hand whenever someone asked.
Often, Lan Yuanning would catch this alpha gazing at the sky like a quiet child, much like how she used to be.
That’s why, whenever Jiang Nan made a request, she simply couldn’t refuse.
“No place to stay? Then stay at my place. There’s a spare room available.”
Jiang Nan froze, settled in just like that?
Yuanning-jie agreed to let me stay!
Xiao Yanjin grinned. She had known all along Yuanning-jie might be cold to others, but never to this silly alpha.
Good!!
You’ll have to work hard from now on.
Jiang Nan turned off her phone. She could definitely do this.
With a well-behaved smile, she said, “Thank you, Yuanning-jie.”
Lan Yuanning suppressed a smile. She wouldn’t agree to just anyone, but with Jiang Nan, she could never refuse not even for a lifetime.
“What are you laughing at?” Ji Yunuo suddenly appeared beside Xiao Yanjin and asked.
Fresh out of the shower, Ji Yunuo’s collar was slightly open, her pheromones mingling with the scent of her body wash. Unable to resist, Xiao Yanjin nuzzled into her arms, begging for her sister’s affection.
She truthfully recounted what had just happened.
“I could tell Yuanning liked Jiang Nan’s personality,” Ji Yunuo remarked.
“Who wouldn’t like Jiang Nan’s personality? Even He Rou couldn’t stay mad at her,” Xiao Yanjin said, finishing the last bite of her soufflé.
“Then, who do you think is gentler me or Yuanning?” Ji Yunuo suddenly asked.
Xiao Yanjin scoffed as if that wasn’t obvious.
She planted a light kiss on Ji Yunuo’s lips. “Yuanning-jie is gentle to everyone, but sister is only gentle to me!”
“Good answer,” Ji Yunuo said, smiling in satisfaction.
“Of course! Otherwise, why would Jiang Nan come to me?”
Ji Yunuo: “My delicate little alpha is becoming a life coach now.”
Xiao Yanjin proudly patted her chest and chuckled. “The alpha who managed to win over the great Miss Ji is a true winner in life. A small matter like this naturally requires the brilliance of your genius alpha.”
Ji Yunuo smiled faintly. Since when had this girl been the one pursuing her? It had been her own heart that moved first.
