From Trashy A to the Heiress’s Little Son-in-Law After the Idol Competition (GL, ABO) - Chapter 21
“What do you mean, ‘sister-in-law’?” Xiao Yanjin froze.
Shi Zhengyi scratched her head sheepishly. Since she was Xiao Yanjin’s CP, wasn’t it natural to call her that?
Ji Yunuo shot a cold glance at Xiao Yanjin, frowned, and quickly walked out.
Thinking she was going to report them, Xiao Yanjin followed, only to see Ji Yunuo stepping onto the breezy balcony to catch her breath.
“Uh, are you okay?” Xiao Yanjin asked from behind.
“Why did you follow me?” Ji Yunuo said coldly. “Afraid I’d tell the dorm supervisor?”
Her tone was icy. Xiao Yanjin poked her index fingers together innocently and mumbled, “I was just worried about you. You looked so pale was your stomach upset?”
Ji Yunuo felt like hitting her just from looking at her. After calming herself, she asked, “What were you eating? It smelled awful.”
“Luosifen!” Xiao Yanjin blinked and grinned. “It’s delicious! Want to try some, Sister Nuo?”
So disgusting! How could they even eat that?
Ji Yunuo recoiled in disgust and snapped, “Get lost!”
Xiao Yanjin was stunned, even being told to “get lost” sounded pleasant coming from her.
The atmosphere turned awkward. Ji Yunuo realized she had been too harsh and softened slightly. “Just finish it quickly. I can’t stand the smell.”
Xiao Yanjin sighed in disappointment. “I was hoping to take you out for some someday.”
Ji Yunuo shuddered at the thought. Was that even edible?
“Not today, but I’ll take you another time, okay?” Xiao Yanjin leaned in with a smile, and Ji Yunuo suspected she reeked of fermented bamboo shoots.
She brushed her off. “Whatever.”
“Then, hug!” Xiao Yanjin spread her arms.
Ji Yunuo took a step back, eyeing her suspiciously. “Why would I hug you?”
Xiao Yanjin closed her eyes and grinned. “Because I’m happy!” She just wanted to test whether Ji Yunuo was really angry, she never showed it outright.
Ji Yunuo didn’t move, so Xiao Yanjin stepped forward and hugged her briefly, pulling away before Ji Yunuo could react.
Ji Yunuo disliked physical contact with alphas, but for some reason, she didn’t feel angry at Xiao Yanjin.
Still, she pretended to be. “Xiao Yanjin! You can’t just touch an Omega without permission!”
“Sorry.” Xiao Yanjin had acted impulsively. In the training camp, the food was bland, and Shi Zhengyi had risked buying Luosifen from outside. If caught, she’d get a major demerit, Xiao Yanjin couldn’t let Ji Yunuo expose them. Though deep down, she knew Ji Yunuo wouldn’t tell anyone.
Ji Yunuo didn’t scold her further. Instead, she found the alpha oddly endearing when she apologized.
She almost wanted to pat her little head.
“Sister, punish me if you want,” Xiao Yanjin said guiltily, staring at the floor.
Ji Yunuo hummed. She wasn’t about to let this slide.
“Buy me a coffee. No sugar, with milk.”
Xiao Yanjin returned quickly.
“Now get me a bag of liquor-filled chocolates.”
Xiao Yanjin dashed back and forth without complaint, like an eager puppy obeying its owner’s every command. Even her tone was irresistibly sweet.
Ji Yunuo’s lips curled into an involuntary smile. Ordering Xiao Yanjin around had unexpectedly become rather amusing, instantly dispelling her earlier gloom.
She found herself wishing Xiao Yanjin would listen to her forever.
“Big sis, do you need anything else?”
Ji Yunuo shook her head.
Finally letting her off the hook.
When she returned to the balcony, Shi Zhengyi and Jiang Nan were long gone.
Even the untouched pot of snail noodles had vanished without a trace.
Xiao Yanjin couldn’t help but curse, “Shi Zhengyi! Jiang Nan! You absolute dogs! You didn’t even leave me a drop of broth!”
The next day, the idol spin-off variety show was set to film a game segment.
Each dorm would form a team for a relay-style sports competition.
It wasn’t a traditional 400-meter relay, though. Instead, every member of the dorm had to complete a task, once the previous person finished, the next would begin theirs. The team that finished all tasks the fastest would win.
He Rou and Chu Luo, the opening hosts, were delivering their introductory spiel in front of the cameras.
“Damn, this Chu Luo really knows how to put on an act. Hosting like she’s at the Spring Festival Gala, all smooth-talking and whatnot,” Shi Zhengyi muttered beside Xiao Yanjin, clicking his tongue.
Xiao Yanjin smirked. “Don’t you think her speech is plagiarized?”
“Youth is the beginning of dreams. We must stride forward toward the future.”
Shi Zhengyi groaned, “Hurry up already. I’m withering here.”
Chu Luo finished her speech with a smile, but inwardly, she fumed: What’s the rush? Let me flex for a bit, will you?!
Ji Yunuo wasn’t particularly interested in these games. Most of the time, she just watched from the tent, finding it all rather childish and feeling nothing.
Cheng Ling and Lan Yuanning came over to call her. “Yunuo, it’s our turn now.”
Their opponents were Shen Ya’s dorm.
Cheng Ling whispered to Ji Yunuo, “Shen Ya’s team already won once. We need to be careful with her.”
Ji Yunuo sighed. “What happens if we lose?”
Cheng Ling shrugged. “Nothing much. But winning is always better than losing, we’re on camera, and the fans are watching.”
Ji Yunuo hummed in acknowledgment. Her gaze flickered to Xiao Yanjin and Shi Zhengyi, who were also watching from under the tent. Xiao Yanjin was munching on chips, her cheeks puffed up like a little hamster.
Cheng Ling went first, tasked with doing elephant spins before running forward to grab two balloons for Lan Yuanning. Lan Yuanning then had to eat a whole lemon before passing two more balloons to the next person. By the time it reached Ji Yunuo, she had six balloons in hand. Her task was to carry all six to the finish line and place each into a basket of the corresponding color without popping any.
“Yunuo, you’ve got this!” Chu Luo cheered for Ji Yunuo before Cheng Ling had even started her task.
Xiao Yanjin hissed through her teeth. What a suck-up.
The earlier tasks were completed quickly, and soon, Ji Yunuo had all six balloons.
“Woo-hoo~!” Xiao Yanjin suddenly shouted.
Ji Yunuo’s heart inexplicably skipped a beat as she took off, one step, then another.
Shi Zhengyi and Jiang Nan gaped. “Damn, those legs!”
Omegas, especially female Omegas, had excellent proportions, and Ji Yunuo was one of the taller figures among her peers. Her long legs were the envy of many.
“Yunuo, you’re amazing!” Chu Luo clapped enthusiastically.
However, during the process of placing the balloons into the basket, one was popped by Shen Ya. Ji Yunuo abruptly looked up, to which Shen Ya quietly muttered an apology.
Shen Ya’s team quickly finished their task, while Ji Yunuo naturally lost.
The rules allowed opponents to sabotage by popping balloons, so it wasn’t Shen Ya intentionally playing dirty. Yet Ji Yunuo felt a pang of guilt, she could have observed how others did it beforehand, but she had dismissed it as childish and spaced out, failing to pay attention to the rules.
Never in her life had she felt such an ugly defeat. A surge of competitive spirit rose within her.
“It’s fine, we still have one more round. Winning this will take us to the finals,” Lan Yuanning comforted.
Ji Yunuo nodded, clenching her fists as she asked, “Which dorm are we up against next?”
“Us!” Four alphas strode out from the tent with effortless grace, their presence so commanding that one might mistake them for filming an F4 drama.
He Rou grinned. “Introducing the team of Xiao Yanjin, Shi Zhengyi, Ran Wan, and Jiang Nan!”
Chu Luo remained silent, only letting out a quiet scoff.
Shi Zhengyi stretched lazily, smirking smugly. “Sorry, but the rules never said alphas and omegas can’t compete. Don’t blame us for showing no mercy.”
Cheng Ling raised an eyebrow. “I’d love to see you cry when you lose. Didn’t you just get beaten by an omega team earlier?”
Shi Zhengyi flushed instantly, stammering, “T-That was just a fluke.”
The match began. Cheng Ling and Jiang Nan moved at the same pace, completing their tasks simultaneously.
But when it came to Shi Zhengyi’s turn, things took a drastic turn.
Shi Zhengyi trembled violently as she ate a lemon.
“Damn it, why is this lemon even sourer than before?!” Her eyes watered, the overwhelming tartness making her feel like she might keel over on the spot.
“HAHAHAHAHA!” Unrestrained laughter erupted from the side. He Rou, clutching the microphone, doubled over in hysterics, her eyes glistening with tears. “HAHAHAHAHA!” Who would’ve thought Shi Zhengyi would have such a day?
This beta! Shi Zhengyi swallowed the lemon whole, she refused to lose!
Soon, six balloons ended up in Xiao Yanjin’s hands, while Ji Yunuo also held six. The two instinctively locked eyes.
He Rou teased, “Ooooh!!”
Chu Luo watched with envy. If not for her dorm participating, she’d never have taken this lousy hosting job!
Ji Yunuo glanced over. The blazing sunlight cast a radiant glow on the alpha, making her look strikingly beautiful.
“Yunuo, what are you staring at? Hurry to the finish line!” Cheng Ling called out.
Ji Yunuo snapped out of it with an “Oh!” and dashed toward the end.
Xiao Yanjin chuckled quietly. Though Ji Yunuo had placed all her balloons, one basket remained empty.
Ji Yunuo frowned. Where was the last balloon?
“Jiejie, looking for this?” Xiao Yanjin pulled out a pink balloon from her pocket, only for Ji Yunuo to immediately pop it the moment it appeared.
Damn! She had been holding a tiny needle.
“How ruthless. You lost your own balloon and now want to take others’ too,” Xiao Yanjin said, amused.
Ji Yunuo scoffed. “I don’t want to lose.”
“But that balloon you popped was yours.”
Ji Yunuo’s gaze dropped. In her haste, she had mistaken it for Xiao Yanjin’s. Now she had truly lost. She let out a long, resigned sigh.
Unexpectedly, a pink balloon had appeared in her pink basket.
Xiao Yanjin raised her eyebrows, her gaze burning bright, like the gentlest breeze in the world softly brushing past her hair.
He Rou walked over to inspect the balloon in the basket, then raised Ji Yunuo’s hand and announced, “Ji Yunuo’s dorm won!”
“Nice job!” Cheng Ling cheered, cupping her hands like a megaphone.
Ji Yunuo was momentarily stunned, watching as Xiao Yanjin slung an arm around Shi Zhengyi’s shoulder and grinned. “No worries, tonight I’ll treat you all to a feast.”
Her heart fluttered slightly, leaving her at a loss.
Chu Luo noticed the way Ji Yunuo looked at Xiao Yanjin, no longer indifferent, but with a trace of softness. She never thought Ji Yunuo could look at an alpha like that.
Chu Luo clenched her fists. Xiao Yanjin, just who the hell are you?
Back in the dorm, Xiao Yanjin caught a whiff of cigarette smoke.
Shi Zhengyi’s expression was complicated. She patted Xiao Yanjin’s hand. “Chu Luo’s waiting for you inside.”
The moment Xiao Yanjin stepped in, she saw Chu Luo and a few of her close friends sitting on chairs, staring at her. Chu Luo’s gaze was sharp as a cold blade.
She casually flicked away her cigarette, exhaled, and said, “I heard you’ve been pestering Ji Yunuo. Is that true?”
Xiao Yanjin had always heard that Chu Luo’s persona was that of a cold, noble rich girl, adored by younger fans for her superior qualities. But now, she just looked like some punk.
Persona, huh? As if that could put food on the table.
