From Trashy A to the Heiress’s Little Son-in-Law After the Idol Competition (GL, ABO) - Chapter 12
Next was the practice session for the theme song.
While most of the others were taking it seriously, there were a few slacking off, one of them being Xiao Yanjin.
After the session, during break time, Xiao Yanjin had nothing to do and went to Class A to find Shi Zhengyi for lunch.
The trainees in Class A were indeed disciplined and hardworking. Even during the break, all ten of them were still practicing inside.
“Bend your waist, yes… just like that.”
Ji Yunuo’s voice reached Xiao Yanjin’s ears, making her pause involuntarily.
Glancing through the floor-to-ceiling window, she saw Ji Yunuo discussing with Lan Yuanning how to make the dance moves smoother. He Rou was still practicing nearby, while Shi Zhengyi was fixing some speakers.
“Stop practicing, let’s go eat,” Chu Luo said to Ji Yunuo with concern.
Xiao Yanjin froze momentarily. She remembered how the moment Chu Luo appeared, many Omegas had screamed themselves hoarse, nearly fainting. With her outstanding skills, Chu Luo must have been extremely popular.
“Hmm.” Surprisingly, Ji Yunuo actually agreed something she rarely did.
“Hey, hey.” Without quite knowing why, Xiao Yanjin suddenly walked in.
“What’s a Class C trainee doing in Class A? Is there a problem?” Having heard about the previous matchmaking attempts between the Ji and Xiao families, Chu Luo harbored deep-seated dislike for Xiao Yanjin so much so that she wished she could just kick her out right in front of the cameras.
But in the end, she yielded to the cameras and forced a warm tone.
Xiao Yanjin caught the displeasure in her voice and smiled. “I just came to check out Class A’s facilities.”
Chu Luo gave a faint smile. “Seen enough? If so, we’re going to eat now.”
“Go ahead. It’s not like I’m here to steal anything, why are you so fixated on me? Besides, I came to find Zhengyi-jie.” Xiao Yanjin swept her gaze around before finally landing on Shi Zhengyi.
Shi Zhengyi waved at her, clearly having expected her visit.
Chu Luo pursed her lips and reached for Ji Yunuo’s hand, but Ji Yunuo deftly avoided it.
“Shi Zhengyi was fixing the speakers earlier and didn’t practice, and Yuanning still has to teach her. I was planning to bring them lunch boxes anyway,” Ji Yunuo said flatly.
At that, Shi Zhengyi looked up in confusion. Since when did the young miss care so much about her?
“Since you’re here to eat with Shi Zhengyi, you might as well come with me,” Ji Yunuo said, turning to Xiao Yanjin with a burning gaze that left no room for refusal.
Xiao Yanjin, who had never intended or even considered eating with Ji Yunuo, was stunned.
Nani??
“Uh…”
“What’s with the hesitation? We might end up as teammates later, so there’s no point keeping your distance now.” Ji Yunuo spoke with a straight face, her words oddly familiar despite her usual aloofness, making Xiao Yanjin seriously wonder if she’d been body-snatched.
Just as Chu Luo was about to offer to take her instead, Ji Yunuo grabbed Xiao Yanjin’s hand and pulled her out. She didn’t hear Ji Yunuo whisper to Xiao Yanjin: You have to get me out of here.
On the way to the cafeteria, Xiao Yanjin watched Ji Yunuo walking ahead of her, her straight posture making her momentarily dazed. She jogged to catch up.
“Hey, why’d you say that to me earlier?” Xiao Yanjin asked, walking beside her.
“Chu Luo is from the Chu family, which has business ties with the Ji family. I don’t like her, but I can’t openly reject her without causing a scene.”
“I know that. Does she still have a crush on you?” Xiao Yanjin suddenly recalled that although the original owner didn’t know Chu Luo, she’d heard the Chu family had always wanted an arranged marriage with the Ji family.
“Xiao Yanjin, you’re such a gossip.” Ji Yunuo paused before finally sighing in resignation.
“So what are you going to do? She seems completely devoted to you. That Chu Luo won’t give up until she hits a wall, you’ll probably be pestered by her endlessly in the future, hahaha.”
Ji Yunuo curved her lips and pulled Xiao Yanjin into the most secluded corner.
“What?” Xiao Yanjin never expected the dignified young miss would want a secret conversation with her!
“Can you help me?” Ji Yunuo’s eyes sparkled, her cool voice laced with a hint of allure. “Pretend you like me.”
Xiao Yanjin froze. “Are you proposing a fake dating contract?”
Ji Yunuo tilted her head, clearly unfamiliar with the term.
“Chu Luo does like me, but out of respect for the Chu family, I can’t openly reject her. The chairman of Chu Corporation has visited my home multiple times to discuss marriage arrangements. I don’t want to become a sacrificial lamb in this arranged marriage. If someone else blocks her path through no fault of mine then I can extricate myself cleanly.” Ji Yunuo lifted her clear eyes with a faint smile.
“So I’m your human shield?” Xiao Yanjin scoffed. “Why should I agree to this? Isn’t that just asking for trouble?”
“You’ll agree.” Ji Yunuo stated with absolute certainty.
“You’re quite confident.”
“The Xiao and Chu families have always been at odds. Now that the Xiao family has fallen on hard times, do you think the Chus will just stand by? They’ll surely suppress your father repeatedly, ensuring your family never recovers. What good would currying favor with Chu Luo do you anyway?”
Xiao Yanjin fell silent. Though she’d only recently transmigrated and didn’t share much affection with the original owner’s parents, she was now tied to the Xiao family their troubles were hers to bear, with no escape.
“So you want me to pretend to like you, effectively blocking Chu Luo’s advances.”
“Precisely. For instance, when you come to Class A, it shouldn’t be to see Shi Zhengyi but me. If she tries to make any demands or arrangements with me, you intervene immediately when something seems off. Any method that prevents contact between us is acceptable.” Ji Yunuo spoke eloquently, her tone refined and composed.
“And what’s in it for me?” Xiao Yanjin asked, her mind muddled by the other girl’s fragrance.
“Once I become the highest authority in the Ji family, I’ll help your family overcome this crisis without hesitation.”
“My father and your mother are good friends. The Ji family will assist the Xiaos eventually.”
“Really?” Ji Yunuo blinked in surprise, making Xiao Yanjin suspect she was feigning ignorance.
“Has my mother helped your family at all? After marrying my mom, she cut ties with all those so-called friends. As a capitalist, aiding the Xiao family would be nothing but trouble for her.”
Xiao Yanjin sneered. “Miss Ji knows her mother so well.”
“Xiao Yanjin.” Ji Yunuo suddenly fixed her with an intense gaze.
“What?” Xiao Yanjin broke out in a cold sweat.
“Why would a shrewd business tycoon take such risks for an insignificant person?” Ji Yunuo’s voice grew colder, her eyes glinting like ice.
“Don’t you understand yet?”
Xiao Yanjin narrowed her eyes.
Playing mind games with her, what fun!
Xiao Yanjin gave it some thought. If she formed a CP with Ji Yunuo, wouldn’t her solo fans tear her to shreds? And if she offended Chu Luo, wouldn’t her fans come after her too? That way, she’d be eliminated in the first round even faster.
Why not go for it?
“Alright, then I’ll graciously accept your offer.”
Ji Yunuo smiled faintly. Though she had no idea what Xiao Yanjin was scheming, at least she’d agreed.
The next second, Xiao Yanjin suddenly rested her chin on Ji Yunuo’s shoulder.
Ji Yunuo stiffened. “What are you doing?”
“Don’t you know, Sister Nuo? It’s because I like you.” Xiao Yanjin watched her flustered reaction with satisfaction, delighted to see the usually cold beauty so unsettled.
Though she called it “liking,” it felt more like teasing.
Ji Yunuo froze for a moment before regaining her composure and pushing her away. “Don’t do that again!”
“But I really want to be close to you, Sister.” Xiao Yanjin leaned in again, drawn to the lingering fragrance that seemed to cling to Ji Yunuo.
Her sweet, almost childish tone was oddly endearing.
Ji Yunuo clicked her tongue. Was she really getting into character this fast?
“Let’s not do this off-camera,” she sighed.
Xiao Yanjin hummed sweetly in agreement, thinking to herself not only could she get eliminated quickly, but she could also annoy both Ji Yunuo and Chu Luo. A perfect two-for-one deal!
Watching Xiao Yanjin trail after Ji Yunuo like an eager puppy, Chu Luo clenched her fists, her eyes turning icy.
Xiao Yanjin, stay away from my woman!
The theme song evaluations were about to begin, and the first episode of Chase Your Dreams, Girls! had already aired, skyrocketing to the top of the variety show charts with a popularity score of 10,000. It was the talk of the town.
Before the show aired, He Rou, Chu Luo, and Shi Zhengyi had all been quite popular.
But none of them could compete with the hype surrounding Xiao Yanjin and Ji Yunuo’s CP.
Their past blind date scandal had already set the fandom abuzz.
Now that they were paired together again, all eyes were on them.
Xiao Yanjin’s high-note performance even won over some skeptical netizens.
[Looks like Xiao Yanjin’s turned over a new leaf, she’s actually got some skills.]
[She’s probably here to chase Ji Yunuo, right? I always thought their blind date happened because Xiao Yanjin liked her, but Ji Yunuo wasn’t interested. That’s why she’s here, trying to win her over.]
[Whatever the case, I’m shipping NuoYan CP! Blind date to lovers? Straight out of a novel!]
[Have you all forgotten what Xiao Yanjin used to be like? If Nuo ends up with her, she’ll definitely get cheated on!]
[Relax, Nuo would never be with Xiao Yanjin. One’s a bankrupt, spoiled brat with no education, the other’s a high-society, well-bred heiress. They’re worlds apart.]
[Exactly! Xiao Yanjin should just quit already. I’m not watching because of her!]
[I’ll never accept Nuo being with Xiao Yanjin!! Yunuo’s fans, rally with me!]
