Forced to Romance the Omega Psychiatrist - Chapter 44
Bai Shuixi glanced at the bustling banquet hall, finding the nearly identical smiles on the guests’ faces utterly dull. There wasn’t a single thing worth staying for.
She might as well go back to the suite and find Xia You.
After all, her current persona was that of an unrestrained playboy dragging Xia You into reckless antics. Even if she ditched the banquet halfway to fool around, it would still fit the act.
With that thought, Bai Shuixi actually got up and left the banquet hall.
The hotel suite had been arranged for both Bai Shuixi and Xia You, so naturally, Bai Shuixi had a key card as well.
After taking the card from the attendant, she rode the elevator down and waved He Jiu away to tend to his own business.
She hadn’t decided what to do with Xia You yet, but whatever it was, He Jiu definitely didn’t need to be around for it.
When she reached the door, Bai Shuixi was about to swipe the card and enter, but just as the magnetic strip neared the sensor, she suddenly remembered that Xia You had just been frightened by Bai Ye. If someone abruptly entered now, she might get scared again.
Pausing, Bai Shuixi put the card away and instead pressed the doorbell.
After the chime rang, she waited for a while but heard no movement from inside. The soundproofing in the presidential suite was excellent, so Bai Shuixi doubted she’d hear anything even if she waited longer.
Maybe Xia You was already asleep.
Just as Bai Shuixi pulled out the key card again to let herself in, the door suddenly opened.
Xia You peeked out, her eyes still slightly red, and locked gazes directly with Bai Shuixi.
Bai Shuixi froze for a moment, taking in the lingering redness in Xia You’s eyes, and suddenly felt a pang of unease.
She might have played a small part in this.
But upon closer reflection, it wasn’t entirely her doing.
Before Bai Shuixi could decide what to say, Xia You bit her lip and gave her a pitiful, aggrieved look.
Bai Shuixi: “…”
Tears welled uncontrollably in Xia You’s eyes, making her gentle gaze appear misty and blurred.
Staring at Xia You’s expression, Bai Shuixi opened her mouth helplessly, completely at a loss for words.
Unaware of Bai Shuixi’s inner turmoil, Xia You threw herself forward without hesitation, crashing into Bai Shuixi’s arms and wrapping her hands tightly around her waist.
Bai Shuixi stiffened instinctively, hesitating for a second before awkwardly returning the embrace.
Her nearly nonexistent sense of guilt suddenly swelled like a gust of wind, stirring up a faint, uncomfortable ache in her chest.
Had her methods been too harsh?
For once, Bai Shuixi actually reflected on herself.
But this situation couldn’t really be blamed on her for dragging Xia You into it.
The emotional entanglement with Bai Ye had always been Xia You’s own doing. Every obsessive, villain-like character who acted out of twisted affection was deeply connected to Xia You herself.
If Xia You didn’t sever those ties herself and truly recognize those characters as harmful, even if Bai Shuixi temporarily suppressed them, she couldn’t stop the inevitable madness of these obsessive admirers later on.
What she wanted was for Xia You to reach the side-story’s resolution unscathed, not just delay the inevitable.
Bai Shuixi held Xia You in a daze for a while, feeling the warmth of her breath against her neck and the dampness of tears slowly spreading across her shoulder.
This time, Bai Shuixi completely stopped overthinking.
What else could she think about? Xia You was crying—thinking was the last thing on her mind.
Bai Shuixi lowered her gaze, glanced around the empty hallway to confirm no one was watching, then wrapped an arm around Xia You and guided her into the suite.
Pressed against Bai Shuixi’s chest, Xia You followed passively, still catching her breath as if she hadn’t fully recovered. She looked up at Bai Shuixi with teary eyes, her nose and the rims of her eyes already reddening, making her appear both delicate and pitiful. Her voice carried a slight tremble when she spoke:
“What are you doing?”
Bai Shuixi held her by the waist, studying Xia You’s face intently. Her throat felt dry, and something deep inside something she had never paid attention to began to waver.
After a moment of silence, two conflicting thoughts warred in her mind, and in the end, the less rational one won.
Logic and plans were kicked out of her head by some nameless emotion. Resigned, Bai Shuixi closed her eyes, cupped Xia You’s face, and kissed her.
She didn’t even know why she was doing it. She just didn’t want to see Xia You upset anymore. She just wanted to kiss her.
When Xia You had thrown herself into her arms earlier, she had seemed like a wronged little animal someone who had been holding herself together in front of others but finally let go when she found someone she trusted.
Bai Shuixi didn’t fully understand why Li Wei, Zhou Wanwan, or even Bai Ye could make Xia You this upset, but she still wanted to comfort her, to make her feel safe.
Xia You cried silently, barely able to catch her breath, but she quickly matched Bai Shuixi’s kiss, naturally wrapping her arms around Bai Shuixi’s neck and sharing the same air between them.
Their lips moved soundlessly. Xia You’s legs seemed to weaken, and as they kissed, she retreated until Bai Shuixi had her pinned against the wall.
The distance between them vanished, and the atmosphere grew heated.
Bai Shuixi swallowed hard, her rationality barely holding on. One hand still cradled Xia You’s face while the other unconsciously traced the curve of her waist, fingertips lingering over her soft form but before she could do anything more, Xia You let out a quiet whimper.
Bai Shuixi froze, snapping back to reality as she pulled away slightly, startled.
Was she insane? Kissing Xia You now and wanting to go even further?
The two of them stood in the entryway, Bai Shuixi lost in thought, absently wiping her lips with her fingers.
Xia You looked up at her in confusion, as if she had already forgotten her earlier sorrow. “You, why did you kiss me?”
Bai Shuixi blinked, then fell silent.
She truly didn’t know how to answer that. After a pause, she finally spoke slowly, “Well, you threw yourself into my arms without asking me first, didn’t you?”
“I—” Xia You faltered, pressing her lips together before letting go of Bai Shuixi’s neck, her ears burning as she turned and hurried into the living room like she was running away. “I had a reason.”
Bai Shuixi exhaled quietly and followed her inside, fetching two glasses of water and handing one to Xia You. “What reason?”
She hadn’t expected Xia You to tell her at all, already prepared to be brushed off. To her surprise, Xia You fell silent for a moment before whispering, “I ran into Bai Ye again.”
“Hmm?” Bai Shuixi was taken aback.
Xia You stole a glance at Bai Shuixi before quickly lowering her eyes. “I don’t know how she got in, but the moment she saw me, she started spouting nonsense and even tried to take me away.”
Bai Shuixi thought for a moment, then asked the question she really wanted answered: “And that’s why you cried?”
“Well, not entirely because of that,” Xia You flushed, her neck visibly reddening. “I just, um…”
She didn’t know how to explain that she had simply been overwhelmed by disappointment in these people, and seeing Bai Shuixi had made her emotions overflow.
Fortunately, Bai Shuixi didn’t press for an explanation. She had her own hesitation to contend with. “What if there was a way to make Bai Ye pay for her actions? Would you be willing to help?”
Bai Shuixi rubbed her knuckles, her brow deeply furrowed as she stared at the table, speaking slowly and deliberately.
“What?”
Xia You was momentarily stunned, not quite grasping what Bai Shuixi meant.
Bai Shuixi suddenly snapped out of her thoughts, curling her fingers into her palm. She effortlessly masked all traces of hesitation, her tone steadying as she even managed a confident smile, looking at Xia You.
“Bai Ye’s recent behavior has gone too far. Actually, I have a way to ensure she can never bother you again. But it’ll require your cooperation. Are you willing?”
Xia You thought for a moment, then looked at Bai Shuixi in confusion. “This is my problem, why wouldn’t I be willing?”
Bai Shuixi paused at Xia You’s question.
Right. If this were her usual approach, wouldn’t she have cornered Xia You first, leaving her with no way out, before casually offering her help?
By her standards, she wouldn’t force Xia You directly, just set harsh conditions and let Xia You come to her for an exchange.
Even if Xia You refused at first, it wouldn’t matter. She’d watch as Xia You slowly ran out of options, neither pushing nor pressuring, until Xia You had no choice but to step into the trap herself.
When had she started being so hesitant?
Bai Shuixi cleared her throat and turned her face slightly away, feigning nonchalance. “Right. You know I never help anyone for free. How do you plan to thank me?”
“Uh! oh,” Xia You, flustered by Bai Shuixi’s words, averted her gaze and mumbled, “Then, then should we do it again?”
“What?” Bai Shuixi stared at Xia You in shock, wondering if madness wasn’t limited to just Bai Ye or herself.
Xia You’s face instantly burned crimson, and she waved her hands in a panic. “No, no! I was just talking nonsense. Let me think of something else.”
Bai Shuixi couldn’t wait. She felt like she couldn’t stay in this room any longer. Standing up, she smoothed her skirt as if chased by something and spoke quickly, “Fine, think about it. I’ll arrange a car for you to leave first. Someone will have you switch vehicles midway just follow their lead quietly. I’ll handle Bai Ye.”
“We’re not going together?” Xia You forgot her embarrassment, looking up at Bai Shuixi.
“No,” Bai Shuixi lowered her head slightly, her tone softening unconsciously the moment she saw Xia You. “I need to deal with Bai Ye. It won’t take long, and I won’t be delayed for much.”
“Today? Isn’t that too rushed?” Xia You spoke anxiously.
“It’s fine. It’s just Bai Ye,” Bai Shuixi smiled faintly, her expression dismissive. She didn’t elaborate further, only saying, “Don’t worry, I’ve made arrangements. Before leaving today, Xin, my mother even prepared a security team for me.”
“I see.”
Hearing the term “security team,” Xia You felt slightly reassured and didn’t press further.
Bai Ye, who had already withdrawn her people in advance, was directing her subordinates to keep an eye on Bai Shuixi’s car and the hotel’s entrances. Her most trusted subordinate was stationed in the backstage monitoring room, watching the surveillance footage while earnestly advising Bai Ye:
“Miss, Bai Shuixi is, after all, the heir to the Bai family someone whose future net worth will be in the billions. Even if we can’t see it, she wouldn’t travel without any security measures. Continuing like this might alert her and expose us.”
Bai Ye didn’t respond, silently moving through the banquet venue with a cold demeanor.
Deep down, she knew this was difficult, but she couldn’t bring herself to give up even if there was only the slightest chance.
“Wait, Bai Shuixi doesn’t seem to be taking the same route as Miss Xia,” the subordinate suddenly spoke up, his tone turning serious.
On the surveillance screen, Bai Shuixi descended the steps while an assistant draped a coat over her shoulders. The hem of her dress peeked out beneath the coat, making her silhouette appear sharp and elegant. Meanwhile, Xia You was already wrapped in a warm fur shawl.
Bai Shuixi seemed to be saying something to Xia You, while the secretarial team behind them split into two groups, each following one of the women.
“They seem to have separated—even the secretaries and assistants left half with Miss Xia,” the subordinate reported, a vague sense of unease creeping in.
Wasn’t it said that Bai Shuixi was forcing her affections on Xia You?
But from their interactions the two didn’t seem to have any conflict. In fact, they appeared quite close.
Before he could dwell on it further, Bai Ye suddenly spoke: “Tell our people outside to get ready. Forget Bai Shuixi follow Xia You.”
The moment Bai Ye spoke, the fleeting thought slipped from the subordinate’s mind. Out of instinctive risk aversion, he tried once more to dissuade her: “Miss, you need to think this through. Abducting Miss Xia on the street is completely different from persuading her in the hotel.”
“I know,” Bai Ye murmured.
She, too, felt that the repeated opportunities falling into her lap during this operation were almost too coincidental.
But the bait was too tempting enough to make her ignore the risks, overlook the lack of time to verify Bai Shuixi’s movements, and eagerly take the bite.
If there really was a problem.
Bai Ye herself was now at the edge of the parking lot, hidden in the shadows where the light couldn’t reach, watching as two cars pulled up in front of Bai Shuixi and Xia You. She narrowed her eyes slightly and thought:
If there really was a problem, she could always retreat.
As long as she wasn’t caught red-handed intercepting Xia You’s car, what did it matter if someone noticed she had followed Xia You for a while?
Bai Shuixi stood at the hotel entrance, watching as Xia You got into her most frequently used car. Just as the door was about to close, Bai Shuixi suddenly raised her hand, signaling the driver to wait. She then approached with her hands in her pockets, resting one arm on the roof of the car as she leaned down to look at Xia You inside, her gaze deep and solemn. “Remember what I told you.”
Xia You was momentarily stunned, recalling the words ‘someone will come to have you switch cars.’ She nodded carefully and said, “I understand.”
She didn’t ask any further questions, but just the thought of Bai Ye’s relentless surveillance and pursuit made her realize this was beyond her control. She didn’t want to ask even if she did, Bai Shuixi might not answer.
Bai Shuixi gave Xia You one last lingering look before stepping back and motioning for the driver to close the door and drive off.
The car carrying Xia You soon sped away, while Xin Wensheng’s beloved vehicle smoothly pulled up in front of Bai Shuixi.
Bai Shuixi withdrew her gaze and exchanged a subtle glance with He Jiu before bending down to enter the car. The two luxury vehicles headed in completely opposite directions, one driving south toward Bai Shuixi’s hillside villa outside the city, the other heading north to the Bai family’s estate in G City.
On the quiet, nearly deserted suburban road late at night, an unremarkable sedan raced past. Bai Ye sat in the backseat, her eyes fixed on the Maybach that was nearly out of sight, her headphones still connected to an unnamed subordinate.
“Has Bai Shuixi’s car shown any signs of turning back?” Bai Ye’s gaze remained unflinching, her eyes gleaming with the obsessive light of a gambler.
“No, we’ve been following it the whole way. The car is almost at the Bai family’s old estate,” the person on the other end replied, clearly a bit nervous but speaking briskly.
After hearing the report, Bai Ye’s expression grew even more resolute at least Bai Shuixi wasn’t planning to double back.
If Bai Shuixi had intended to set a trap, she would have come herself. A few employees and Xia You alone wouldn’t be enough to stop her. Maybe this time, luck was truly on her side.
“Miss, the car ahead seems to have noticed us! It looks like they’re changing routes,” the driver suddenly spoke up.
“Follow them!” Bai Ye instinctively ordered.
Her mind had already been tilting toward the option of taking Xia You during the pursuit. Now that Xia You’s car was altering course, her first reaction was to cling tightly to their movements.
But if Xia You’s car had noticed them and couldn’t shake them off, they would surely notify Bai Shuixi soon. Then her actions would be exposed. There wasn’t much time left to hesitate either act now or wait for Bai Shuixi to arrive and take Xia You away.
Bai Ye narrowed her eyes slightly, barely hesitating before sending the coordinates of the side road the car had taken, along with her own location, to a group chat on her phone, accompanied by a message:
[Move now. Intercept that car.]
With precise instructions given, several distant vehicles sprang into action, cutting off the Maybach carrying Xia You from different intersections.
Whether the Maybach’s driver panicked or not, they somehow ended up driving deeper into isolation, nearly plunging into a small town before finally slowing down at a T-junction.
Bai Ye immediately directed her subordinates to surround and stop the car.
Before the other vehicles could arrive and form a proper ‘encirclement,’ the target suddenly came to a stop on its own.
Bai Ye stared at the Maybach blocking the street and immediately sensed something was wrong. She shouted, “Reverse!”
But it was already too late.
Bright headlights flared as several off-road vehicles rounded the bend at the end of the road, flooding Bai Ye’s field of vision and completely sealing off the already narrow street.
A Jeep Wrangler changed lanes mid-drive, overtaking the others before pulling to a stop at the front.
Bai Ye clenched her fists and sharply turned her gaze toward the Maybach blocking her path.
As if the driver had X-ray vision, they stepped out of the luxury car and casually opened the rear door, revealing the empty backseat to Bai Ye.
The dense glow of headlights illuminated the entire area, leaving no detail hidden from Bai Ye’s sight.
Her own driver, confused and sweating from the intimidating scene, stammered, “M-Miss, are we filming a cop movie or something? They wouldn’t actually do anything illegal, right?”
“Shut up!” Bai Ye snapped impatiently.
Still, his words reminded her of something.
That’s right, she hadn’t done anything yet. So what if Bai Shuixi had cornered her? What could she actually do?
Burning with anger, Bai Ye shoved the car door open and stormed out with furious momentum.
Noticing her exit, the tall, slender woman in the back of the Wrangler, who always carried an air of cold elegance stepped into view.
Bai Shuixi had changed into a perfectly fitted windbreaker at some point.
Her naturally tall and lean frame, paired with the sleek windbreaker and cargo pants, along with her striking, aloof beauty, made her look effortlessly sharp. Standing under the crisscrossing headlights, she might as well have been a model on a runway.
Bai Ye took in Bai Shuixi’s demeanor and let out a cold laugh. “Director Bo must have a lot of free time, playing cat-and-mouse games with me in the middle of the night?”
Bai Shuixi barely glanced at her before lifting a hand and flicking her fingers dismissively in Bai Ye’s direction. Then, as if she couldn’t be bothered to look any longer, she shoved her hands into her pockets and turned her attention to the distant town.
At her signal, more people emerged from the surrounding off-road vehicles, swiftly restraining Bai Ye and forcing her to the ground with her arms twisted behind her.
“What are you doing?! Let go of me!!” Bai Ye’s face twisted in shock she had been certain Bai Shuixi wouldn’t dare act against her. She tried to wrench free, but the trained professionals overpowered her easily. Panting heavily, she shouted, “Bai Shuixi, have you lost your mind?! How dare you lay hands on me! What gives you the right?!”
Bai Shuixi cast a disinterested glance her way just in time to see Bai Ye’s driver quietly cracking open his door, looking shifty as he prepared to bolt.
The moment Bai Shuixi’s eyes landed on him, the driver’s legs gave out in terror. With a yelp, he scrambled away only to run straight into a burly bodyguard, who effortlessly subdued him and tossed him into one of the nearby vehicles.
“Useless!”
Kneeling on the ground with her head forced down, Bai Ye caught a glimpse of her driver’s pathetic capture and spat the word through gritted teeth.
At this moment, Bai Shuixi finally turned around and slowly walked towards Bai Ye, her tone indifferent: “I don’t want to waste extra time searching phones, nor do I particularly want to violate your rights by confiscating them. That’s why I brought a signal jammer in the car. As for him, he probably only tried to run when he realized his phone wasn’t working.”
After speaking, Bai Shuixi crouched down under Bai Ye’s astonished gaze, reached out, and lightly patted Bai Ye’s cold cheek. There was finally a hint of emotion in her voice.
With a cold smirk curling her lips, she said, “You didn’t really think I went through all this trouble just to play house with you, did you?”
Bai Shuixi’s eyes, usually indifferent and seemingly detached from the world, gleamed with a dangerous edge in the darkness unlike Bai Ye’s unrestrained, almost manic obsession. A truly ruthless person would never reveal their blade until the final moment.
Under Bai Ye’s stunned gaze, Bai Shuixi smiled faintly. “I don’t have your boundless energy failing at something once and shamelessly clinging to it. I dislike wasted effort and have no appreciation for sunk costs caused by poor judgment. I prefer to settle things in one go.”
As she spoke, she raised her hand, and a woman in a sharply tailored skirt suit naturally placed a stack of documents into Bai Shuixi’s palm.
“Where should I begin.” Bai Shuixi flipped through the files while her secretary promptly turned on a reading light. “Hmm, let’s start with this.”
She first pulled out a few printed pages of chat logs and tossed them in front of Bai Ye.
“Curious how your messages got leaked? Well, here’s the culprit. Did he tell you that Xia You was indeed locked up by me?”
Bai Shuixi spoke with a mocking smile, watching as Bai Ye struggled to read the printed pages before staring at her in speechless shock.
“Still can’t figure out why Xia You hit you? Because the information was fake from the start. Besides, I have no need to bully Xia You, she loves me. I can do whatever I want.”
Without changing her expression, Bai Shuixi casually boasted, needling Bai Ye further. After this simple appetizer, she revealed the real leverage she had gathered something that could truly shake Bai Ye.
“Oh, and there’s this. You were arranged by Bai Liu Yue to intern at your family’s company before you even closed your eyes, weren’t you?
But unfortunately, while the Bai family head intended for you to learn, you overestimated yourself and insisted on taking charge in a new business venture. Your poor decisions directly led to the project’s failure.
To this day, your family hasn’t managed to revive that business line, has it? Let me see. Hmm, but strangely, the financial records of that failed project show no issues at all.”
Bai Shuixi flung a thick stack of documents in front of Bai Ye.
“You found a scapegoat back then, didn’t you? And you embezzled company funds, single-handedly sinking two of your mother’s subsidiaries. Bai Liu Yue still doesn’t know about this, does she? How unfortunate, the benefits I offered were far better than anything you could match, so all the evidence ended up in my hands.”
“You—!” Bai Ye lunged forward violently, managing to wrench one hand free and grabbing Bai Shuixi’s boot as if she wanted to tear into her. Gritting her teeth, she hissed, “What do you want?!”
Bai Shuixi raised an eyebrow, motioning for the approaching security to stand down. Calmly stepping back, she pulled her foot free and said nonchalantly,
“Logically, shouldn’t I just send all this to those who see you as a thorn in their side? That’s exactly what I did. But your Bai family’s connections are so tangled so many people to arrange. It really took me some time.”
“You!” Bai Ye glared at Bai Shuixi, looking as if she was about to bite through her own gums in fury.
“Don’t get angry just yet this isn’t even the full picture,” Bai Shuixi said, shifting her stance as if tired from crouching. She placed the list of names and photos she had compiled that evening in front of Bai Ye.
“All the people you mobilized tonight were given to you by Bai Liuyue, weren’t they? I’ve long heard that the Bai family is ‘rich in talent’ and that your rise to power wasn’t solely built on business. But given that you’ve managed to evade scrutiny until now, I imagine you don’t have many of those people left. Oh, and by the way, I just sent your mother the footage of her people blocking my car and trying to snatch someone from me.
I was hoping to discuss the Bai family’s next quarter with her. Although Bai Shuixi Group has never collaborated with the Bai family, you know how it is we’ve got plenty of idle capital. There’s not much we can’t do if we set our minds to it.
Also, I took the liberty of sending this list to that Madam Bai who’s never been particularly fond of you. I doubt she had any idea your mother was secretly favoring you behind the scenes. Now she knows.”
Bai Ye was utterly stunned. Her mother had been her last bastion of support, and her own competence her only bargaining chip.
Now, Bai Shuixi had exposed everything—her leverage delivered straight into the hands of all her enemies. Even her final escape route had been cut off by Bai Shuixi.
Bai Shuixi’s mention of “discussing cooperation” was clearly a veiled threat: if Bai Liuyue didn’t give Boshi Group a satisfactory answer, Boshi would turn its sights on the Bai family.
No matter how wealthy the Bai family was, could they possibly go toe-to-toe with a behemoth like Boshi?
“Back to the original question,” Bai Shuixi said, standing up and casting Bai Ye one last glance. “Miss Bai, I truly can’t do much to you at most, I can just ensure you never get anything again. Bai Ye, your days as a spoiled, domineering heiress are over.”
“Bai Shuixi!!” Bai Ye screamed, her voice raw with hatred as she glared at Bai Shuixi. “I hope you die a horrible death! Don’t give me another chance, or I swear I’ll make your life a living hell!”
Bai Shuixi turned back to look at Bai Ye’s disheveled state, actually pausing to consider for a moment before replying earnestly, “Thanks for the warning. Noted, I won’t give you that opportunity.”
Bai Ye froze, genuine fear finally setting in. “No, wait, I can explain! Let’s talk this through! Fine, I’ll stop bothering Xia You from now on! Bai Shuixi!! Are you even listening to me?!”
Having said her piece, Bai Shuixi ignored Bai Ye’s frantic screams and coolly addressed the head of security. “I believe there’s an abandoned factory over there. Have our Miss Bai escorted there and wait for the Bai family to pick her up.”
The head of security nodded. “Understood.”
Without sparing Bai Ye another glance, Bai Shuixi turned and walked back to the Wrangler she had arrived in.
