Forced to Romance the Omega Psychiatrist - Chapter 22
When Bai Shuixi opened her eyes again, she found herself lying in a hospital bed. The pure white ceiling dominated her vision, and the room was eerily quiet, save for the rhythmic beeping of medical equipment.
The fresh scent of grapefruit still lingered in the air. The entire ward was arranged to be calm and cozy, with a single sofa, a quaint little side table, and even a small bathroom in the corner. If not for the conspicuous medical machines humming away, it could easily pass for a bedroom.
So, I was brought to the hospital?
Bai Shuixi propped herself up, rubbing her temples with a slight headache before casually pulling out the IV drip from the back of her hand.
Her last memory was being at Xia You’s home, and the next moment, she was staring at a hospital ceiling. Her thoughts were still clear—she could even recall the lingering pain deep in her consciousness and… the softness of Xia You’s lips.
Hmm, I didn’t expect the ‘shared sensation punishment’ to activate without warning. There was no time to react.
The system’s punishment… really isn’t so easy to deal with.
But Bai Shuixi had already anticipated this when she made her decision. Now, she merely smirked dismissively, not taking the matter too seriously.
She had never been the type to clean up after others. The fact that she had reluctantly played the role of a villain at all was already a testament to her patience. Yet, Li Wei still had the audacity to act up right under her nose…
Absolutely intolerable.
Even with the system watching, she wouldn’t stand for it.
“You’re awake,” a man in gold-rimmed glasses, holding a medical chart, walked in and paused in surprise upon seeing Bai Shuixi fully alert. He picked up his pen. “Are you feeling any discomfort, President Bai?”
Bai Shuixi frowned, sifting through the original body’s memories. This was one of the original host’s most trusted private doctors.
“Nothing serious,” Bai Shuixi said nonchalantly, standing up right in front of the doctor. “Just my assistant overreacting. That’s enough—arrange my discharge.”
The doctor, who had personally retrieved her from the so-called ‘assistant’s’ home, wore a strange expression, wisely choosing not to delve into what kind of ‘assistant’ this really was.
“I’d still recommend staying for observation,” the bespectacled man disagreed, studying her chart with a thoughtful expression. “Your condition is rather unique, and leaving so soon would be too rash.”
“Staying here won’t reveal anything new,” Bai Shuixi replied, meeting his gaze. “I said there’s no need to overreact.”
Yet the doctor remained stern, frowning as if still unwilling to let her go.
“Fine,” Bai Shuixi said indifferently. “I’ll do one more check-up. If nothing’s wrong, I’m leaving.”
This time, the doctor’s expression softened slightly. He adjusted his glasses and nodded. “Very well. Then I suggest a full-body examination, President Bai. After all, your symptoms last night did appear quite severe.”
Bai Shuixi didn’t care either way, allowing the doctor to make a fuss and call in a nurse to wheel her out of the room in a wheelchair.
A full-body check-up involved numerous tests and took considerable time. While Bai Shuixi was willing to undergo the examination, she had no intention of waiting for the results.
She still had unfinished business.
Avoiding the gaze of doctors and nurses, Bai Shuixi quietly returned to her hospital room to change back into her own clothes after completing most of her checkups.
By the time Xia You arrived with a claypot porridge from a renowned Cantonese private kitchen, she was met with the sight of a pale but composed Bai Shuixi, who, though still looking somewhat fragile, had regained her usual sharp demeanor.
Bai Shuixi disliked anyone entering her room, so the replacement clothes had been hastily purchased by He Jiu from a boutique—all in styles Bai Shuixi frequently wore lately. A well-tailored shirt paired with a knee-length skirt, knee-high leather boots, and a trench coat draped over her shoulders accentuated her tall, slender figure.
Xia You, who had been deeply worried, froze mid-step and instinctively asked, “Y-you’re okay now?”
Bai Shuixi paused, halting her adjustment of her watch strap, and glanced up in Xia You’s direction.
Expecting yet another hospital staff member trying to stop her from leaving, she was surprised to see Xia You instead. Bai Shuixi visibly faltered for a moment, the indifference in her eyes softening slightly.
“What are you doing?” Bai Shuixi asked after studying Xia You for a while.
Xia You was caught off guard by the question and dumbly raised the takeout bag. “You… The doctor said you should stick to light meals, and Assistant He mentioned you’re very picky and never eat hospital food.”
Bai Shuixi eyed the exquisitely designed packaging in Xia You’s hand and smiled. “For me?”
“Ah, yes,” Xia You finally registered that Bai Shuixi seemed perfectly fine now. Recalling her own worries from last night, she felt a flicker of irritation at having been toyed with. “So… you’re really okay?”
Bai Shuixi thought for a moment, then rolled down the sleeves of her trench coat and casually took Xia You’s hand, a hint of amusement in her voice. “We’ll talk later. Right now, we need to run.”
“Run?” Xia You turned with Bai Shuixi’s pull, not quite processing the situation. “Why?”
Wasn’t this the hospital Bai Shuixi was most familiar with? He Jiu had specifically mentioned it when Xia You sought her help last night.
“To avoid anyone stopping us from leaving,” Bai Shuixi replied, glancing back at Xia You with a playful glint in her eyes.
Before Xia You could react, Bai Shuixi had already pulled her along, dashing out of the room. It wasn’t until they were inside the elevator that Xia You realized what was happening and stared at Bai Shuixi in shock. “The doctor didn’t discharge you!”
“Shh.” Bai Shuixi pressed a finger to her lips.
She genuinely didn’t see any issue with leaving now. After all, the system wouldn’t let her die before the mission was complete. Staying in the hospital longer would only make her fainting episode seem more suspicious, especially since standard tests wouldn’t reveal anything.
The tricky part was dealing with Xia You.
She needed to find a way to placate her.
It wasn’t peak elevator hours yet, so the lift was empty except for the two of them. Bai Shuixi’s theatrical “shh” actually worked for a moment, leaving Xia You momentarily speechless.
But when Bai Shuixi didn’t follow up with an explanation, Xia You quickly realized she was just teasing her to keep her quiet.
“Can you not mess around like this?” Xia You was genuinely upset now. “Do you have any idea how terrifying you were last night? How can you just leave without the doctor’s permission?”
Bai Shuixi tilted her head. “Didn’t I just sneak a kiss from you last night? If something were wrong, wouldn’t you be happy?”
Xia You froze for a moment, both surprised and angry: “What does that have to do with anything? Just because you kissed me doesn’t mean I’d wish for something bad to happen to you. That’s not an equivalent exchange at all.”
Bai Shui Xi looked at Xia You, silently thinking to herself: Hmm… I guess the suffering wasn’t harsh enough yet. In the original story, Xia You poisoned Bai Shui Xi to death without the slightest hesitation.
“Are you even listening to me?”
Xia You frowned as she watched Bai Shui Xi standing there lost in thought, her posture still impeccably straight.
When quiet like this, Bai Shui Xi appeared refined and aristocratic. Her calm, indifferent eyes were mostly hidden behind thick lashes, making it impossible for Xia You to guess what she was thinking.
“Mmm, I’m listening,” Bai Shui Xi lifted her gaze and smiled at Xia You. “Was I that terrifying last night?”
“…Absolutely terrifying,” Xia You said very seriously, meeting Bai Shui Xi’s eyes.
“For example?” Bai Shui Xi asked softly.
At this question, Xia You’s expression became complicated: “You suddenly collapsed, completely limp with no strength at all. You wouldn’t wake up no matter how much I called you. Your hands were ice cold, and your pulse was so weak I could barely feel it. I almost thought you were… Later I called your doctor and we got you to the hospital, but…”
Xia You didn’t continue, but Bai Shui Xi guessed: “They couldn’t find anything wrong with me, right?”
Xia You started, looking at Bai Shui Xi in surprise: “How did you know?”
Bai Shui Xi thought for a moment: “Here’s what we’ll do. Come with me, and once we’re in the car, I’ll tell you why I fainted. How does that sound?”
“You even called for a car already?” Xia You frowned.
From her expression, Bai Shui Xi’s behavior had clearly escalated from generally awful to downright terrible in Xia You’s eyes.
Bai Shui Xi: “……”
Bai Shui Xi sighed helplessly: “Don’t you want to know why I fainted? I have the answers the doctors couldn’t give you.”
Xia You remained silent just as the elevator reached the first floor with a ‘ding’, its metal doors sliding open.
Glancing outside, Xia You reluctantly agreed: “Fine. But if you don’t have a proper explanation, you’re coming right back for medical treatment.”
“Understood,” Bai Shui Xi nodded, taking Xia You’s hand and quickly walking out of the inpatient building. The Bai family driver happened to pull up just then, and Bai Shui Xi directly opened the door for them both to get in.
Only after settling into the backseat did Bai Shui Xi truly relax.
“President Bai, shall we head home or… to the company?” the driver asked, turning around.
“To the company,” Bai Shui Xi answered immediately, adding before Xia You could protest, “Notify He Jiu to meet us there.”
The driver glanced at Bai Shui Xi, then stole a look at Xia You’s expression before turning back without another word.
Bai Shui Xi smiled at Xia You and pressed a button to raise the partition between the front and back seats: “There’s really no need to be so tense. It’s just a minor issue. Have I mentioned before that I rarely go into Tianyin’s office?”
Xia You’s frown eased slightly.
This was something Bai Shui Xi had indeed mentioned before—back when she was holding online meetings at home, remotely discussing company matters with Xu Chuan.
“This happens because my health isn’t very good,” Bai Shuixi smiled, planning to use the original body’s illness as an excuse. “It’s not the first time this has happened, and it might occur again in the future. I didn’t expect it to startle you… I’m truly sorry.”
“…Is that all?” Xia You waited a moment, but when Bai Shuixi didn’t continue, she couldn’t help asking.
“Hmm…” Bai Shuixi thought for a second, feeling she hadn’t left anything out. “What else should there be?”
“Just because it happens often means you can just leave the hospital? Don’t you care about your life? What if it happens again?” Xia You reached out to press the button, clearly wanting the driver to turn around immediately.
Bai Shuixi caught Xia You’s wrist.
With Xia You’s warmth as comparison, Bai Shuixi realized her fingertips were indeed cold. And because of their positions, they were pressed closely together—the first time they’d been this near since their kiss the previous night.
Someone averted their gaze first, and the atmosphere in the car suddenly turned delicate.
Bai Shuixi withdrew her hand and cleared her throat. “I had a full checkup before leaving the hospital. If there were any issues, plenty of people would rush me back without your prompting.”
Xia You recalled He Jiu’s casual mention of how the Bai Group’s executives doted on and indulged Bai Shuixi, relaxing slightly.
Though such pampering wasn’t exactly commendable, at least someone was deeply concerned about Bai Shuixi’s health.
But as for the illness itself…
Xia You hesitated, wanting to ask what exactly was wrong but feeling she had no right to inquire.
Their relationship was far too complicated—on the surface, she even wanted to distance herself from Bai Shuixi. She shouldn’t care so much.
“As for my condition…” Bai Shuixi spoke again.
Xia You kept her expression neutral, not even turning her head, yet her attention sharpened, waiting intently.
“You probably don’t want to know anyway.”
Xia You whipped around. “…What?”
Bai Shuixi met her gaze with sincere, “considerate” concern. “Given our… situation, telling you would just burden you. Don’t worry—I’ll try not to faint in front of you next time.”
Try not to?!
Xia You was too furious to speak, her chest rising and falling rapidly.
Bai Shuixi tilted her head in “innocent” confusion. “What’s wrong? Did I upset you after all?”
“No!” Recognizing Bai Shuixi’s evasion, Xia You turned away sharply, biting her lip. “You’re right. I don’t want to know at all.”
From behind, unseen by Xia You, Bai Shuixi smiled faintly at her stiff posture, a trace of regret in her eyes before she finally let the matter drop.
In the silence, the car soon arrived at the company’s underground garage. Rows of luxury vehicles—over twenty in total—drew Xia You’s gaze despite her anger.
“Some belong to executives, some are artists’ vans, others are personal cars. Not all are company property,” came Bai Shuixi’s calm voice beside her.
Xia You glanced back at her.
Bai Shuixi curled her lips, appearing much more approachable than usual: “Do you want one? I can arrange a car for you.”
Xia You gave her a speechless look.
It didn’t take a genius to realize how absurd it was to assign a luxury company car to a personal assistant. What was this little alpha thinking?
In the silence between the alpha and omega, the Maybach reversed into the long-vacant parking spot at the front of the luxury car row. Xia You, unwilling to engage with Bai Shuixi, pushed the car door open and stepped out first. The driver moved to open the door for Bai Shuixi, only to be interrupted halfway as she opened it herself.
Without paying the driver much attention, Bai Shuixi casually shut the door and chased after Xia You with a helpless smile: “Still angry?”
As the elevator doors opened before them, Xia You clutched the now lukewarm porridge container, deliberately avoiding Bai Shuixi’s gaze. She said primly, “What are you talking about, President Bai? How could I possibly be angry with you.”
Bai Shuixi, immediately met with this sarcastic retort: “……”
Bai Shuixi truly had no way to handle Xia You. Annoyed yet amused, she followed the stiff-faced omega into the elevator.
Studying Xia You’s reflection in the elevator mirror, Bai Shuixi could tell she was genuinely upset. While contemplating how to ease the tension, she stole glances at Xia You, eventually focusing on the porridge container in her arms:
“This is for me, right?”
Xia You paused, glancing down at the porridge before replying stiffly, “It’s gone cold. You should have the company cafeteria prepare something fresh or order another serving.”
Bai Shuixi looked at her: “No, I want this one.”
Xia You frowned in surprise: “Aren’t you picky?”
Bai Shuixi smiled at her: “If it’s something you thoughtfully bought for me, I’ll eat it no matter what. Even if it’s poisoned.”
Xia You seemed exasperated. After staring at Bai Shuixi for a moment, she turned away to suppress a twitching smile. Just then, the elevator doors opened. Carrying the porridge container, Xia You stepped out and muttered under her breath, “Can we stop mentioning poisoning?”
Hearing this, Bai Shuixi’s lips curved upward as she followed her out.
In the lobby, the receptionist was busy verifying something when she caught sight of Bai Shuixi walking past with a smile. Startled, she quickly greeted, “Good afternoon, President Bai.”
In high spirits, Bai Shuixi responded, “Good afternoon.”
Then, turning to the beautiful omega striding ahead, she called out indulgently, “Do you even know where you’re going, walking so fast?”
The receptionist curiously eyed the unfamiliar omega, then glanced at the unusually gentle-looking Bai Shuixi, sensing she’d stumbled upon some juicy gossip. Smiling to herself, she returned to her work.
Bai Shuixi caught up to Xia You and guided her toward another elevator: “This way.”
As they approached, the executive elevator descended to the first floor. When the doors opened, they revealed a familiar face inside.
Xia You: “Assistant He?”
He Jiu looked between Xia You and Bai Shuixi, visibly relieved to see the latter. However, certain matters couldn’t be discussed now, so he swallowed his words and greeted politely, “Good afternoon, President Bai, Miss Xia.”
Bai Shuixi nodded as they entered the elevator, calmly praising, “You work quickly.”
He Jiu was on the verge of tears—this wasn’t something he wanted to rush.
The whole thing started because Bai Shuixi announced yesterday that she would be coming to the office. Both the executives and Bai Shuixi herself felt such opportunities were rare, so they scheduled a concentrated meeting for the management team.
Unexpectedly, an incident occurred last night, forcing the meeting to be canceled abruptly. Many senior executives, hearing that Bai Shuixi’s situation was somewhat complicated, became restless and visibly displeased. He Jiu was sent over to help stall for time.
To make matters worse, he had received an international call from two of the group’s top executives early in the morning. They had grilled him in detail about Miss Xia’s situation—almost as if they already knew about Bai Shuixi’s feelings for her…
And he hadn’t even had the chance to report this to Bai Shuixi yet!
Bai Shuixi, oblivious to He Jiu’s inner turmoil, handed him a container of cold porridge: “Heat this up, then notify Deputy General Manager Xu that the morning meeting has been rescheduled to 2 PM. All senior executives must attend on time.”
Before He Jiu could respond, Xia You voiced her disagreement: “You still plan to hold the meeting?”
Bai Shuixi smiled. “Since I’m here, of course we’ll have the meeting. Besides, I’m still alive and kicking, aren’t I?”
Xia You glanced at Bai Shuixi’s still-pale complexion and couldn’t help but think her definition of “alive and kicking” was a bit off.
Bai Shuixi shot He Jiu another look, signaling him to get moving, then led Xia You toward her office. Along the way, they passed several employees from different departments, all of whom greeted Bai Shuixi with varying degrees of surprise.
Bai Shuixi gave them a slight nod in acknowledgment before heading straight into her office with Xia You.
Though Bai Shuixi rarely appeared at the company, her office was still the largest at Quanyin Entertainment. Spacious, well-lit, and fully equipped, it even had two mahogany bookshelves—a must-have for any domineering CEO looking to flaunt their status.
“You don’t need to pay any attention to those people outside,” Bai Shuixi said as she hung up her coat and walked over to the mini-fridge in her office. She pulled out a bottle of sparkling water, checked the date (pleased to find it fresh), unscrewed the cap, and handed it to Xia You before guiding her to the sofa.
“Sit. If you try talking to them, you won’t get any useful information—instead, they’ll probably end up extracting details from you.”
“What could they possibly get from me?” Xia You asked reflexively.
“Hmm, if you chat with them for a bit, they might even figure out your measurements.”
And they might even ask you about mine.
Though you wouldn’t know that either.
Xia You’s face flushed instantly. She gave Bai Shuixi a hesitant look and muttered, “That’s a bit of an exaggeration…”
Bai Shuixi smiled without responding.
This was all based on the original host’s memories. Given the original’s sporadic work ethic, the reality might be even more outrageous.
“In any case, if you want information, don’t engage with those people outside,” Bai Shuixi said bluntly. “For now, just stick close to He Jiu. Later, you can occasionally visit the marketing department—they deal with major online platforms the most, so it’ll be easier for you to find out who’s been tying us together in promotions.”
Xia You froze for a moment before realizing Bai Shuixi’s intention: “So you told me all this just for this matter?”
“Obviously,” Bai Shuixi replied naturally.
Xia You’s lips parted slightly in bewilderment.
She clearly wanted to say something, but when it came time to speak, words failed her. Only one thought remained crystal clear in her mind—
Bai Shuixi had actually kept every promise made to her.
Unaware of her thoughts, Bai Shuixi let the office lapse into silence. Just then, He Jiu knocked on the door and cautiously peeked in: “Boss, your congee has been reheated.”
Bai Shuixi: “…Bring it over once it’s heated.”
He Jiu stood solemnly by the door: “The chef noticed just congee would be too plain, so they’ve added a few side dishes. They’ll be delivered shortly—enough for both you and Miss Xia.”
Xia You: “I don’t need—”
Bai Shuixi: “That’s perfect, have them all delivered.”
Xia You: “…”
Bai Shuixi glanced at Xia You: “Wouldn’t it be nice to have lunch together? Or would you prefer someone else—He Jiu perhaps?”
“…” He Jiu subtly retreated toward the doorway.
Xia You was momentarily speechless. After considering, she realized there was no reason to refuse and simply agreed.
“Since lunch hasn’t arrived yet, let’s check out your workstation,” Bai Shuixi lightly touched Xia You’s arm, naturally guiding her toward the door. “Administration should have everything ready.”
At the office entrance, an observant assistant stepped in to escort Xia You to the secretary’s alcove adjacent to Bai Shuixi’s office. Bai Shuixi paused at the doorway.
Watching Xia You attentively listening to the assistant’s explanations, Bai Shuixi leaned casually against the doorframe, crossing her arms. Distractedly, she said to He Jiu: “Now tell me, what happened this morning while I was away?”
