“Actually, Bai Shuixi and  I mean, CEO Bai and I aren’t in that kind of relationship,” Xia You said as she walked down the long corridor of the venue with He Jiu, heading to meet the executive director to help with on-site coordination.

The corridor was decorated with a futuristic aesthetic, lined with industrial-style wallpaper and game-related illustrations and slogans. The overhead lighting shimmered just right.

Everything was harmonious, with no issues except for the subtle look in He Jiu’s eyes.

If she had to describe it,  it was the kind of look a regular employee might give a department head from another division not their direct superior, but someone they still had to show some respect to.

Xia You had a rough idea where He Jiu’s attitude was coming from and sighed inwardly, regretting her impulsive decision to become Bai Shuixi’s assistant:

“Assistant He, CEO Bai and I really aren’t involved like that. What happened earlier was just,  an agreement between us. You don’t have to treat me as her girlfriend.”

He Jiu responded with a perfectly professional smile, though internally, she thought: Yeah, I can’t buy that.

CEO Bai’s gaze has practically been glued to you. It might not all be love, but staring that much clearly means she cares!

As a top-tier assistant with a starting salary of 20k a month, it was her duty to ease her boss’s burdens!

If the boss wanted Miss Xia to be her girlfriend, then Miss Xia was her girlfriend!

He Jiu smiled politely, reassuring Xia You, “Miss Xia, you’re overthinking it. This is just how I treat all my colleagues. As for your relationship with CEO Bai that’s your business. You don’t have to explain it to me. And of course, I won’t spread any rumors.”

“…” Xia You could tell He Jiu didn’t actually believe her, but there wasn’t much she could do,

After all, she had outright claimed to be Bai Shuixi’s girlfriend in front of her.

Maybe I should just wrap up the matter with Weiwei and resign from Bai Shuixi’s side as soon as possible.

Today, she would finally meet Weiwei properly not as a shadow lurking in a parking garage or a flustered encounter in a luxury store.

They would have a real conversation.

No matter how Weiwei felt about Zhou Wanwan. Xia You’s expression dimmed slightly as she recalled the intimate gestures she’d witnessed between Li Wei and Zhou Wanwan during their previous run-ins.

Whatever Weiwei’s stance, as long as she was honest, Xia You could always find a way to talk things through with her.

After nearly twenty years of growing up together, unless things were truly irreparable, she still wanted a future with Li Wei.

Besides,  deep down, she clung to a sliver of hope. No matter what the truth was, she deserved an explanation from Li Wei.

If Li Wei truly didn’t care about her at all, then what harm would it do to just tell her the truth?

She was tired of being kept in the dark, tired of standing still and waiting. She didn’t want to live another day where she could only rely on others to reveal the so-called truth.

“Oh no, I left one of CEO Bai’s documents in the car!” While Xia You was lost in thought, He Jiu suddenly checked her phone and exclaimed.

Xia You was startled, abruptly snapping out of her thoughts when she noticed He Jiu’s extremely serious expression, as if something grave had happened.

After a moment’s consideration, Xia You said, “Why don’t you go retrieve the documents first? I can meet the executive director alone. You’ve already given me your work pass, so it’s fine.”

“That won’t do. I promised President Bai I’d escort you there,” He Jiu insisted firmly.

“It’s just meeting one person. I can find my way,” Xia You smiled, genuinely believing this small matter wasn’t worth troubling He Jiu over. “Judging by your reaction, those must be important documents you left behind? Go get them. I won’t tell President Bai.”

Only then did He Jiu truly relax, expressing gratitude, “Thank you so much. President Bai is always meticulous with requirements, and I was really worried about being reprimanded for negligence.”

Xia You nodded, “It’s no problem.”

As she spoke, Xia You felt a flicker of surprise in her heart.

So Bai Shuixi’s temper wasn’t that good after all? She had always thought that despite being somewhat melancholic and emotionally unstable, Bai Shuixi was quite tolerant in nature.

Then,  did that mean Bai Shuixi genuinely had some affection for her beyond just wanting to bully her?

Continuing toward the venue coordination area, Xia You was momentarily stunned by her own thoughts.

“Hey, the daydreamer up ahead,” a lazy voice called out. The tone sounded sweet, like an Omega’s, but carried an arrogance that made it slightly unpleasant to hear.

Xia You paused mid-step and looked toward the source of the voice.

The voice continued, “Yes, you. Still walking forward? You’re about to bump into me.”

The voice was pleasant, and its owner was indeed a beauty, a face of pure innocence with a delicate, pointed chin, a small rounded nose, and full, rosy lips, yet paired with a pair of deep, mesmerizing eyes.

This strikingly memorable face appearing suddenly made it impossible not to recognize.

After a brief silence, Xia You said, “Zhou Wanwan?”

In the empty VIP lounge, Bai Shuixi stood behind one-way glass, overlooking the entire competition venue.

This was a VIP section set up exclusively by the production team for investors who wanted to watch live not open to the public. Positioned above the regular audience seating at the edge of the venue, it was semi-suspended. The lower half of the wall, not made into a one-way transparent window, was fitted with a digital screen displaying rolling game information and featured heroes.

This time, Bai Shuixi had only brought Xia You and He Jiu to the venue, both of whom were now at the site. Shi Laiyin had also been sent back to the artist lounge to film behind-the-scenes footage. The spacious VIP lounge was left entirely to Bai Shuixi alone.

Why hasn’t Xia You appeared yet?

Bai Shuixi’s gaze swept across the competition venue, spotting the executive director who was already spinning like a top with work, but there was no sign of Xia You.

Had He Jiu really not managed to bring Xia You to meet the director yet?

Bai Shuixi lowered her eyes and sat on the sofa in the center of the room, taking a sip of warm coffee. “Making her admit to being my girlfriend counts as humiliation? Do you have any other ideas?”

Bai Shuixi sighed inwardly, too lazy to deal with the system, and simply asked about other matters: “Since you’ve appeared now to affirm my actions, does that mean my current approach is acceptable?”
