The light fell upon Bai Shuixi, illuminating her striking yet aloof features.

Several buttons that had been neatly fastened were now undone by Lilith, revealing the alluring hollow of her collarbone, where a ruby pendant rested gracefully. A ring of the same hue adorned her finger.

The new “Radiant Night” collection made Bai Shuixi appear bold, sharp, and exquisitely cold almost unrecognizable from the woman who had entered the lounge earlier.

The boutique manager was momentarily stunned but quickly regained her composure, smiling warmly. “I always say that Ms. Bai is the perfect embodiment of HV’s designs! Just a change in makeup, and I almost didn’t recognize you.”

Bai Shuixi glanced at the manager and nodded slightly, her gaze subtly directing attention elsewhere. “I think this entire series is excellent. Please have it packed for me.”

The manager glanced at Xia You and immediately understood, pressing her lips together as she stepped away.

Only then did Bai Shuixi fully turn her attention to Xia You. “So… what do you think of this collection?”

She stood too close, making Xia You’s ears flush faintly as she took a step back, awkwardly averting her gaze. “Your looks were never the issue. You can pull off anything you like.”

Bai Shuixi watched her reaction, the corner of her lips curling slightly. “Is that so?”

“Mm… yeah.” Xia You turned her face away, feigning seriousness as she stared at an advertisement nearby looking anywhere but at Bai Shuixi.

Observing Xia You’s demeanor, Bai Shuixi’s expression softened just a fraction.

It seemed changing her style really had an effect. That meant her plan to recruit Lilith had to move forward if only for the sake of the mission.

Bai Shuixi had read the original novel but still couldn’t bring herself to act as despicably as the original character, even if it was just following the plot.

She disliked forcing anyone.

If Xia You were to break down in despair because of her actions, Bai Shuixi truly believed she’d abandon the act halfway, unable to continue.

Since willingly playing the villain seemed unlikely, her only option was to make Xia You both love and hate her.

If Xia You felt even the slightest flicker of attraction before being deeply hurt… wouldn’t that love eventually turn to resentment?

At least then, she’d have a chance to treat Xia You a little better.

And hopefully, this Omega would learn to choose her Alpha more carefully.

At the very least, Bai Shuixi wouldn’t cheat.

She looked at Xia You again, ready to switch accessories based on her preferences. “I’m not fond of picking things out myself. Why don’t you help me choose? Which set do you think suits me better?”

“Me?” Xia You asked in surprise.

“Yes, you. Do I need to remind you of your duties as a personal assistant?” Bai Shuixi’s gaze lingered on the gemstone jewelry as a related search term from earlier crossed her mind ‘body chain.’

Wouldn’t that be subtly provocative?

But it probably wasn’t the right time to bring it up. Maybe she’d ask privately later?

After lingering a while longer in the accessories section, Bai Shuixi estimated the timing was about right. She deliberately engaged the manager in conversation, pretending to overlook Xia You.

As expected, Xia You seized the opportunity to slip away, quietly making her way to the third-floor railing.

Bai Shuixi glanced at her peripherally and smiled faintly.

Perfect that was the spot. The moment Zhou Wanwan and Li Wei walked in, Xia You would see them immediately.

Standing opposite Bai Shuixi, the store manager noticed her expression and paused mid-sentence, momentarily puzzled before suddenly realizing:

Before even entering the store, she specifically turned back to check her assistant’s location. She asked Miss Xia’s opinion when buying a bag, deliberately changed her makeup look to show Miss Xia, inquired whether the tea suited Miss Xia’s taste, and now she’s smiling while watching Miss Xia’s retreating figure…

The manager had initially thought this was just some casual fling, but turns out President Bai is head over heels!

Is this some rich heiress meets true love and keeps her as an assistant storyline?

Just as Bai Shuixi finished planning how to orchestrate Xia You’s encounter with Li Wei and Zhou Wanwan, she looked up to see the store manager wearing an expression so warm it could only be described as “auntie’s knowing smile.”

What’s up with this person?

Before she could figure it out, Xia You, standing by the railing, suddenly leaned forward slightly as if spotting someone downstairs. Bai Shuixi’s attention immediately shifted entirely to Xia You, all other thoughts forgotten.

Had Li Wei and Zhou Wanwan arrived?

Xia You had indeed seen Li Wei  together with Zhou Wanwan.

The instinctive excitement at seeing Li Wei barely had time to surface before being completely doused by the Omega who appeared right after.

The woman who entered a few steps behind was slender, moving with graceful swaying steps that made her seem to glide. Her fair skin seemed to glow, and though not particularly tall, her dancer-like proportions made every movement flawless.

As the young woman walked, she removed her sunglasses, revealing those legendary eyes that had captivated millions.

Xia You remembered when Zhou Wanwan first regained popularity fans claimed her eyes were irreplaceable in the entire internet, capable of expressing both deep affection and utter detachment, so beautiful one couldn’t bear to look away.

Then Xia You watched as Zhou Wanwan naturally handed her sunglasses to Li Wei, who had instinctively stopped to wait their movements so synchronized it seemed they’d done this countless times before.

…Stay calm, stay calm. They’re not like that.

Xia You took a deep breath, inexplicably recalling how she and Li Wei used to be during their school days. Her classroom had been on a higher floor, and when the bell rang, Li Wei would always wait outside the building first, then she’d rush down to take Li Wei’s hand…

Exhaling slowly, Xia You pushed the memory away.

Now that she’d obtained information from Bai Shuixi, she had some understanding of entertainment industry matters. Zhou Wanwan appearing here without assistants or staff likely meant this was a private outing.

But why?

Work-related shopping or personal leisure?

Xia You mentally reviewed Zhou Wanwan’s endorsements, HV definitely wasn’t among them.

Before Xia You could reach any conclusion, her gaze followed Li Wei and Zhou Wanwan as they approached the classic collection display on the second floor. A sales assistant picked up a bracelet to try on Zhou Wanwan, but Zhou Wanwan lightly raised her hand to avoid it, casting a somewhat haughty glance toward Li Wei.

Xia You froze for a moment only to see Li Wei, without the slightest protest, naturally take Zhou Wanwan’s slender hand and personally fasten the bracelet around her wrist.

Last time, Zhou Wanwan had been drunk, and Li Wei might have been a little flustered.

But this time?

“…Oh, it’s Zhou Wanwan,” a familiar voice suddenly spoke up from just behind her before Xia You could think it through. The speaker’s cool fragrance lingered a beat too late in the air, her pleasant tone laced with something sharp. “Hmm, and your childhood sweetheart too.”

Xia You pressed her lips together, at a loss for words.

Bai Shuixi sighed with cold indifference, her voice laced with boredom as she glanced toward the second floor. “What a coincidence, running into them just by casually browsing. They really are stuck to each other, aren’t they?”

“That’s not…” Xia You instinctively protested, frowning at Bai Shuixi.

Bai Shuixi’s appearance embarrassed her like having her own foolish behavior, which she hadn’t wanted to acknowledge, not only witnessed but outright mocked.

Yet Bai Shuixi’s presence also diverted her attention.

Bai Shuixi was always weary, detached, often looking at people as if they were trash. But just seeing her helped Xia You regain her bearings. No matter what, she had to verify the truth herself that was why she had come to Bai Shuixi’s side in the first place.

“Oh?” Bai Shuixi scoffed, resting her elbow on the wooden railing and glancing downstairs dismissively. “Then I suppose this isn’t a couple’s behavior either. Maybe next time I could put a bracelet on you like that or better yet, have you put one on me?”

Xia You choked on her words, unable to resist looking downstairs again.

Were Li Wei and Zhou Wanwan really that close?

Just then, Li Wei happened to glance up, as if sensing something, and looked in their direction.

Startled, Xia You reflexively grabbed Bai Shuixi’s arm and pulled her back from the railing,

Bai Shuixi had anticipated it but still let herself be tugged lightly into the glass wall beside them, steadying Xia You with a hand.

A dull thud sounded as Bai Shuixi’s back met the glass. She deliberately let out a soft hum, watching Xia You’s flustered expression with amusement. “You don’t want your childhood sweetheart to see us together?”

Xia You froze, momentarily sidetracked. “Did I hurt you?”

“Of course,” Bai Shuixi smirked, lifting a hand to her shoulder as if in pain. “You really went all out for her sake.”

“I—that’s not…” Xia You had no way to explain, she’d just instinctively feared Li Wei spotting them together.

“Hmm… I suppose,” Bai Shuixi murmured, her gaze drifting toward the staircase as she narrowed her eyes slightly. “An alpha sneaking around on private outings with a scandal-ridden actress might assume the worst if she saw the Omega she grew up with cozying up to another woman.”

Bai Shuixi’s words had too many loose ends for Xia You’s liking. She took a soft breath, about to retort, when Bai Shuixi covered her lips with a hand.

Xia You: “Mmm?”

“Zhou Wanwan will be coming upstairs soon, and Li Wei will definitely follow. You don’t want her to find us, do you?” Bai Shuixi gazed into Xia You’s eyes, her tone both warning and beguiling.

“I have several projects at hand the nearest one this very week that could let you see firsthand how Li Wei operates. Want in?”

Xia You hesitated, her gaze softening until even her resistance seemed feeble.

Bai Shuixi chuckled lightly, her smile dappled by the swaying glint of gemstone earrings deceptively disarming. “You know me. I don’t do anything without an exchange.”

“…What do you want me to do?” Xia You pulled Bai Shuixi’s hand away.

Bai Shuixi had half a mind to tease her into a kiss, but the thought suddenly struck her as dull. Xia You would surely bristle at the suggestion might not even comply.

Another glance toward the staircase, and the upcoming project sparked a new idea…

“I want you to agree that when I ask, you’ll acknowledge me as your girlfriend.”
