Forced to Romance the Omega Psychiatrist - Chapter 10
He Jiu was the assistant to Bai Shuixi, the CEO of Tianyin Entertainment, and knew her boss’s temperament well.
When the boss informed him that a new colleague would be joining and working directly with him, he wasn’t particularly surprised and accepted the news naturally.
After all, their boss was someone of great importance, the only daughter of Chairman Bai and the sole heir to the massive conglomerate. Rumor had it she had even suffered psychological issues due to past trauma.
Given her delicate health, Bai Shuixi rarely came to the office. Considering how indulgent the two senior executives were toward her, He Jiu wouldn’t have batted an eye even if ten more assistants were hired.
The only odd thing was that the new assistant seemed a bit inexperienced at her job, yet the usually nitpicky boss not only didn’t mind but seemed to enjoy deliberately ordering her around, Strange.
Bai Shuixi sat in the dining room of her home.
Even during breakfast, she was dutifully ‘pestering’ Xia You, having called her over early in the morning. However, Xia You didn’t seem too keen on cooperating.
While eating, Bai Shuixi browsed the morning news on her tablet. When she came across an entertainment piece about Zhou Wanwan, she paused and glanced up at Xia You, who stood silently across from her with downcast eyes.
Seeing the woman quietly stewing in irritation, Bai Shuixi suppressed a smile and said with genuine sincerity, “Are you sure you don’t want to sit down and eat something?”
“No, thank you, President Bai,” Xia You emphasized the title deliberately. “I’ll wait until you’re finished.”
Fine.
At least she was professional.
Bai Shuixi didn’t push further. She took a sip of skim milk, finished reading the gossip about Zhou Wanwan, then switched to WeChat and opened He Jiu’s chat:
“Check Zhou Wanwan’s schedule and report to me before nine.”
Tianyin Entertainment held a unique position in the industry.
Less focused on creating stars and more dedicated to film and TV production, the company had strong financial backing and pursued excellence in its projects. With several critically acclaimed and commercially successful releases each year, Tianyin had become the top choice for collaborations among artists and studios, amassing extensive connections over time.
Given this, it wasn’t difficult for Bai Shuixi to track the whereabouts of an artist from another agency.
Even if no one within Tianyin had the information, partnered media outlets and paparazzi would relay it to her.
Assistant He replied promptly: Understood, Boss.
Bai Shuixi leisurely switched her tablet back to the morning news, swiping away the article about Zhou Wanwan before studying Xia You’s indifferent expression again.
“Are you upset that I called you down early to prepare for the meeting?”
“No,” Xia You replied flatly.
“Then why the long face?”
Xia You glanced at her, then looked away without answering.
“Even if you refuse to speak and insist on attending the meeting on an empty stomach, I won’t let you leave,” Bai Shuixi said, taking a bite of toast and chewing unhurriedly.
“I…” Xia You hesitated. “The meeting is at nine. Why did you summon me at eight? Just to keep you company during breakfast?”
“Yes,” Bai Shuixi glanced up at Xia You with an innocent, guileless expression. “I think being alone all the time isn’t good for mental health. What do you think, Dr. Xia?”
Xia You froze for a moment: “…”
“I wanted us to eat together, but you weren’t willing,” Bai Shuixi took another sip of milk, genuinely puzzled as to why Xia You refused to eat.
After all, she hadn’t done anything to Xia You yet, had she? Since Xia You couldn’t leave anyway, and breakfast hadn’t done anything wrong, wouldn’t eating a little make her feel better?
After a long silence, Xia You looked at Bai Shuixi with complex emotions: “Actually, you don’t really like me. You just enjoy bullying!”
Xia You caught herself and changed her words: “You just like seeing me get angry.”
Bai Shuixi paused mid-motion, surprised as she turned to look at Xia You, her expression involuntarily cooling. She hadn’t expected Xia You to be so perceptive the original novel never mentioned the female lead having such strong professional insight.
Oh, right. In the original story, ‘Bai Shuixi’ seemed to have some sadistic tendencies, with an extensive knowledge of all kinds of twisted play. And it wasn’t just the play, she’d always bring up Li Wei during it. After being forcibly marked a few times by the original Bai Shuixi, the female lead had apparently stopped speaking much, but whenever she did, her words were always sharp enough to wound.
The original Bai Shuixi’s growing irritability and increasing mistakes in the later stages weren’t unrelated to this.
Especially since the female lead had ultimately switched the original’s medication.
What a peculiar way to die.
Bai Shuixi, who had been conscripted by the system due to organ failure from medication misuse, felt a twinge of resonance.
Seeing the sudden coldness in Bai Shuixi’s demeanor, Xia You confirmed her judgment.
The last time she’d seen Bai Shuixi wear such an expression was in the shopping mall. When someone had harassed her, Bai Shuixi had appeared out of nowhere, pushing the man away with an umbrella and she’d looked exactly like this back then.
So she really just wanted to see Xia You react differently from usual.
Xia You could clearly sense that Bai Shuixi’s thought processes and psychological state were unlike those of ordinary people. Aside from her fixation on Xia You’s reactions, her empathy was severely lacking. Her grasp of legal and moral concepts was weak, and she struggled to understand others’ emotions while showing almost no emotional fluctuations herself.
Even when bullying Xia You, it was the same, as if even the force used to grip her wrist had been precisely measured beforehand, never exceeding the predetermined limit.
Cold and rational, like a block of ice.
Xia You also couldn’t understand why it had to be her. Why had Bai Shuixi noticed her? And why did she pretend to enjoy tormenting her in front of her?
Was it love?
But love didn’t manifest like this.
Typically, an inability to generate emotions pointed to pathological issues, often linked to autism. Yet Bai Shuixi’s comprehension and communication skills were not only normal but even surpassed average hardly autistic, yet displaying traits of antisocial personality disorder…
Could it be the result of acquired trauma?
Once Xia You started analyzing, she became absorbed, her professional instincts kicking in as she pondered the possible factors, failing to notice Bai Shuixi had already stood up.
Bai Shuixi had been seen through somewhat, but the mission had to continue.
As someone currently playing the role of the original character, the one thing Bai Shuixi couldn’t admit was that she didn’t actually like Xia You that much after all, the forced romance was a necessary plot point.
But Xia You was quite perceptive so she’d have to be as sincere as possible.
With a hint of weariness, Bai Shuixi stood up and moved to the opposite side of the table, pulling out the chair directly across from her before pushing Xia You toward it.
Xia You, lost in thought: “Huh?”
Bai Shuixi pressed Xia You down onto the chair: “Actually, sometimes I do want to kiss you too. It’s not that I dislike you as much as you think.”
“What?” Xia You froze momentarily, all the possibilities she’d just been considering vanishing from her mind, leaving only the phrase ‘I do want to kiss you too.’ She stared at Bai Shuixi in stunned silence.
Ignoring Xia You’s reaction, Bai Shuixi calmly arranged the tableware for her under that gaze, lowering her lashes as she asked indifferently: “If I were to bully you, would you poison me?”
Like by switching out medication or something.
“What did you say?” This time Xia You looked even more shocked, nearly jumping to her feet with disbelief. “I would never!”
Bai Shuixi glanced at her.
Right. Poisoning someone by tampering with their medication probably violated professional ethics and crossed moral boundaries. The current Xia You was still the pure, untainted version not yet corrupted so of course she wouldn’t understand.
Bai Shuixi smiled gently, appearing almost indulgent, though her eyes remained cool and detached.
She turned back to her own breakfast with apparent nonchalance, testing the temperature of her milk before remarking lightly: “It’s fine. Even if you’re forced to poison me someday, I won’t blame you.”
After all, it was just following the script.
Xia You, however, was horrified, her eyes widening: “You!” What are you saying?!
“Not going to eat?” Bai Shuixi cut her off, checking her watch. “The meeting starts in half an hour, and the milk’s getting cold.”
Xia You paused, instinctively picking up her glass before remembering she’d just refused to eat anything prepared by Bai Shuixi’s housekeeper.
When she looked up again, Bai Shuixi was leaning back in her chair watching her, a faint smile playing at her lips.
Xia You’s emotions were complicated.
Just what kind of young Alpha was this?
Her gaze drifted to the barely touched toast on Bai Shuixi’s plate, stirring concern about her eating habits.
This Alpha’s condition seemed more severe than she’d imagined.
Self-destructive tendencies, excessive obsession, disregard for life, loss of appetite. Medication was definitely necessary. But that comment about poisoning,
Could she really recommend treatment now?
While Xia You wrestled with her thoughts, Bai Shuixi merely glanced at the half-eaten food on her plate before dismissively looking away.
She never ate leftovers even her own unfinished meals.
As the tense silence stretched between them, a notification chimed from Bai Shuixi’s tablet. Her gaze flickered slightly as she picked it up and opened the message right in front of Xia You.
He Jiu: [President Bo, we’ve found out. Zhou Wanwan had a private schedule today. Someone revealed that Zhou Wanwan’s assistant booked VIP services for her at HV’s Mingcui Road branch.]
Bo Shuixi’s gaze lingered on He Jiu’s message. The HV branch, huh…
