Forced to Live Together After Picking Up the Child of My Rival Alpha - Chapter 23
Over on her end, Luo Wei perhaps genuinely worried that Song Yuan might have caused trouble again urged impatiently, “Just say it. Why are you calling me so late?”
Hearing this, Song Yuan quickly replied, “Well! Wei-jie, I’m at the hospital. Luo!”
Before Song Yuan could finish her sentence, Luo Wei’s voice instantly rose in pitch.
“What?! Why are you at the hospital? Are you sick? Which hospital? I’ll come right now.”
Realizing Luo Wei had misunderstood, Song Yuan hurriedly explained, “Wei-jie, don’t panic. It’s not me, it’s Yu Jin. I brought her to the hospital. I’m worried about leaving Luoluo home alone, so I was hoping you could go to my place and look after her for a bit.”
“How many times have I told you? Stay away from Yu Jin, stay away from Yu Jin! Why won’t you listen? Do you have to wait until the brands you’ve partnered with start terminating your contracts before you understand what regret means?”
Song Yuan knew Luo Wei meant well, but the situation at the time hadn’t allowed her to do otherwise.
Luo Wei, however, didn’t see it that way and launched into a tirade over the phone. Song Yuan sighed helplessly and waited for her to finish.
After about five minutes, Luo Wei’s tone finally returned to normal. “Don’t do this again, understand? If paparazzi caught you showing up at Yu Jin’s doorstep at night, who knows what kind of story they’d spin about you.”
“Yes, yes, I know I was wrong.”
Luo Wei gave a soft “Mm” in acknowledgment.
Seizing the opportunity, Song Yuan quickly reminded her, “What about Luoluo?”
“Don’t worry about Luoluo. I’ll head over now.”
“Ah, good. Thank you, Wei-jie.”
After telling Luo Wei to have Luoluo video call once she arrived, Song Yuan hung up.
She walked back to the hospital bed Yu Jin was still unconscious.
About ten minutes later, Yu Jin’s phone rang. Picking it up, Song Yuan saw it was a video call from Luoluo.
She quickly stood and moved aside to answer. Luoluo’s serious little face, tinged with worry, appeared on the screen.
“Mom, where’s Mommy?”
Song Yuan couldn’t tell Luoluo the truth about Yu Jin’s condition, so she sidestepped the issue. “She’s asleep.”
Luoluo still seemed uneasy, remembering the call Yu Jin had made to Song Yuan earlier.
She blinked her big eyes and asked in a soft, pleading voice, “Mom, can I see Mommy?”
Seeing the concern in Luoluo’s eyes, Song Yuan offered a reassuring smile. “You can, but Yu Jin is asleep. We’ll just take a quick look and not disturb her rest, okay?”
Luoluo obediently nodded her little head. “Okay.”
Song Yuan carried the phone over to Yu Jin’s bedside, carefully avoiding the IV bag and Yu Jin’s hand.
Yu Jin’s peaceful sleeping face appeared on the screen. Seeing that Yu Jin seemed fine, Luoluo finally relaxed.
After letting Luoluo see Yu Jin, Song Yuan moved the phone away. “Feeling better now?”
“Mm! I feel better.”
“Mom, when are you coming home?”
After all, Luoluo was still a child. Even though Luo Wei treated her well, she still wished Song Yuan could be with her.
“Hmm…” Song Yuan hesitated. “Mom still has things to take care of here and can’t come back just yet. Be good at home and listen to Auntie Wei, okay?”
Though a little disappointed, Luoluo didn’t press the issue. “Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll listen to Auntie Wei.”
Hearing Luoluo’s sweet, gentle voice, Song Yuan’s heart softened, and a smile tugged at the corners of her lips.
“Luoluo is such a good girl. When Mommy gets back, I’ll buy you a little cake.”
“Mhm!”
Luoluo giggled too, her round eyes curving into two crescent moons.
Since this was a hospital room, Song Yuan couldn’t talk to Luoluo for too long. After giving Luoluo a few more instructions, she hung up.
Yu Jin hadn’t woken up yet, and there was no one else in the room to look after her. Song Yuan couldn’t just leave, so she sat by the bedside, propping her chin in her hand as she waited for Yu Jin to wake.
Time ticked by, and when the IV bag was empty, Song Yuan called for Chen Man to remove the needle.
Perhaps stirred by the movement of the needle being taken out, Yu Jin slowly opened her eyes.
Before she could even process her surroundings, Song Yuan’s voice reached her ears.
“You’re awake.”
Yu Jin froze for a moment, then quickly pieced together what had happened.
She tentatively asked, “You know everything?”
Song Yuan nodded gravely, her expression serious. “Yes, Dr. Chen has already told me everything.”
Yu Jin’s eyelashes trembled slightly. She lowered her head and remained silent for a long moment before speaking again.
“Is there anything you want to say?”
Song Yuan was taken aback. Was Yu Jin worried that she would look down on her for turning from an Alpha into an Omega?
Well, that made sense. No Alpha would want others to know about something like this.
Song Yuan reassured her, “Don’t worry, I’ll keep this matter strictly confidential. I won’t let anyone else know.”
Won’t let anyone else know? Yu Jin’s brow furrowed slightly, her expression cooling.
Her lips pressed tightly together. Was Song Yuan so unwilling to be associated with her?
Completely oblivious, Song Yuan continued on her own.
“That Enigma is no good, she slept with you and didn’t even take responsibility! She’s utterly shameless! She doesn’t deserve to be called an Enigma!”
Yu Jin’s eyelids twitched. Something felt off.
“Do you really think so?”
“Of course!”
As if afraid Yu Jin wouldn’t believe her, Song Yuan cursed the Enigma even more harshly, completely unaware that she was cursing herself.
While ranting, she also tried to comfort Yu Jin. “Don’t take it too hard. Just think of it as being bitten by a dog.”
“Right now, your hormonal imbalance is severe. The most urgent thing is to focus on treatment. As for that dog of an Enigma, she’ll get what’s coming to her!”
Yu Jin’s expression was complicated. Song Yuan didn’t seem to know the full story.
She glanced toward Chen Man and saw her wearing an indescribable expression.
Yu Jin wanted to ask Chen Man exactly what Song Yuan knew, but with Song Yuan right there, she couldn’t.
Sensing Yu Jin’s thoughts, Chen Man cut off Song Yuan’s tirade against the Enigma.
“Ahem, Song Yuan, since Yu Jin is awake now, I can take care of her from here. Why don’t you head back? Isn’t your little one waiting for you at home?”
Interrupted by Chen Man, Song Yuan stopped her cursing.
Even though Luoluo had her agent with her, the child already had some psychological issues, it was better for Song Yuan to spend more time with her.
At that thought, Song Yuan grew eager to leave.
Earlier, she had stayed because Yu Jin was unconscious and alone, but now that Yu Jin was awake, there was no reason for her to remain.
Song Yuan stood up. “Ah, right. In that case, I’ll head back now.”
Before leaving, she patted Yu Jin’s shoulder.
“Accept reality sooner and start treatment early.”
Yu Jin’s expression chilled further. Who did she think was responsible for turning her into this?
Seeing Yu Jin’s unpleasant expression, Song Yuan realized she had touched a sore spot. Fearing Yu Jin might scold her, she quickly slipped away.
As the hospital room door closed, Chen Man met Yu Jin’s grim expression and felt a headache coming on.
Yu Jin’s cool voice broke the silence, “What did you say to Song Yuan while I was unconscious?”
Chen Man didn’t hide anything, truthfully recounting her earlier conversation with Song Yuan, and didn’t forget to add some persuasion at the end. “Your physical condition is very poor right now, and continuously injecting strong suppressants isn’t good for your body either.”
When Chen Man had told Song Yuan about Yu Jin’s situation earlier, she could see that Song Yuan genuinely felt indignant on Yu Jin’s behalf and had truly forgotten what happened five years ago.
But Yu Jin was stubbornly unwilling to tell Song Yuan the truth.
Glancing at Yu Jin’s expression, Chen Man continued persuading, “Given your hormonal imbalance, your condition will only get worse. Besides, Song Yuan already knows about your situation now. This is the perfect opportunity to ask for her help let her comfort you and assist in resolving your hormonal issues.”
“No, I won’t ask her.” Yu Jin refused instinctively.
“Are you really going to wait until the strong suppressants completely fail you, then undergo surgery to remove your gland?” Chen Man was furious, her face darkening. “Yu Jin! You clearly have a better solution. Why must you harm your own body?”
Whether as a doctor or a friend, Chen Man never agreed with Yu Jin’s approach.
She was about to say more when a nurse knocked on the door, reminding Chen Man that a patient was waiting for her.
Chen Man acknowledged it, then looked at Yu Jin, who was lost in thought with her head lowered, and frowned slightly. “Yu Jin, think carefully about what I said. Song Yuan would be a good choice.”
The door closed, leaving Yu Jin alone.
The surroundings were exceptionally quiet. Yu Jin stared blankly at the chair where Song Yuan had been sitting earlier.
Her hormonal episodes were becoming more frequent now. She had just had one a few days ago, yet it happened again today.
If it weren’t for absolute necessity, she didn’t want to remove her gland either.
But should she really follow Chen Man’s advice and go to Song Yuan?
