Forced to Live Together After Picking Up the Child of My Rival Alpha - Chapter 20
“You could just ask me directly,” Yu Jin said, turning her gaze to Song Yuan.
Song Yuan couldn’t quite grasp her meaning and hated having to guess.
So she decided to ask outright: “Do you hate me?”
The question caught Yu Jin off guard. Hate? Yes, she probably did. Being inexplicably marked as an Omega and giving birth to a child, how could she not resent the one responsible for it all?
And now that very person was sitting right beside her, shamelessly asking if she was hated.
Yet, for some reason, the word “hate” stuck in her throat, refusing to come out.
In the heavy, awkward silence, Yu Jin let out a mocking laugh. “Shouldn’t I be the one asking if you hate me?”
Song Yuan instinctively recalled that inexplicable slap. If she had to say she hated Yu Jin, it wouldn’t be entirely true.
In that brief moment of silence, Yu Jin already had her answer. She let out a cold, scornful snort.
Feeling as though she were standing before a guillotine, Song Yuan shook her head decisively. “I don’t hate you.”
After that, neither of them spoke again.
Song Yuan thought this might be a good opportunity to seriously discuss their current partnership and the public scrutiny they were facing.
Bracing herself against the awkward atmosphere, she spoke up: “Right now, everyone thinks you and I had some big scandal five years ago.”
Yu Jin curled her lips. “And?”
Song Yuan tentatively suggested, “If you clarified the real reason you withdrew from the variety show back then, it might help.”
The mention of the real reason only fueled Yu Jin’s anger. “If I revealed it, you’d be in even bigger trouble.”
Song Yuan: ???
What did she mean by that?
Unable to make sense of it, Song Yuan decided not to dwell on it and moved on to another issue. “Your fans must be tearing into me right now, accusing me of being promiscuous and all that.”
Yu Jin shrugged indifferently. “What does that have to do with me?”
Song Yuan was left speechless.
Yu Jin continued sarcastically, “Besides, if you hadn’t been flirting with Wei Yang, would anyone be calling you promiscuous?”
Her words were sharp and pointed.
Song Yuan suppressed her anger, silently repeating to herself: Luoluo is here, Luoluo is here, Luoluo is here. Arguing isn’t good, arguing isn’t good, arguing isn’t good!
Instead of an explanation from Song Yuan, Yu Jin was met with silence.
Hah, so she’s guilty.
The image of Song Yuan and Wei Yang exchanging flirtatious glances flashed in Yu Jin’s mind, making her expression turn even colder. Yet, a familiar heat began to stir within her.
Her pheromones were acting up again. The memory of that night when her pheromones had gone out of control resurfaced, and Yu Jin didn’t want Song Yuan to witness her in such a vulnerable state again.
Sensing Yu Jin’s gaze, Song Yuan was about to turn and confirm when she heard Yu Jin order sharply, “Xiao Liu, pull over!”
Before Song Yuan could ask why, the car had already stopped by the roadside, and the door automatically swung open.
“Take Luoluo and get out!”
???
Song Yuan was stunned. “Wait, isn’t it a bit unfair to drop someone off halfway home?”
A bit? It’s completely unfair!
Out of Song Yuan’s sight, Yu Jin clenched her fingers. “I never said I was taking you home in the first place.”
With a slam, the car door shut, and the white Alphard sped off, leaving nothing but exhaust fumes and dust in its wake.
Song Yuan, holding her child’s hand, stomped over to the roadside in frustration. “So unreasonable!”
Luoluo, still holding Song Yuan’s hand, seemed far more composed than her mother.
Song Yuan was so angry her chest heaved. Luoluo, acting like a little adult, comforted her, “Mom, don’t be angry. Mommy wasn’t like this before.”
Song Yuan frowned, “Before?”
Luoluo nodded, then suddenly sighed, “Ah, ever since she met you, Mommy has become so moody!”
Song Yuan was full of questions. Did Luoluo and Yu Jin know each other before? And what did it mean that Yu Jin became like this only after meeting her?
Song Yuan had a bellyful of doubts, but ever since this variety show recording, Yu Jin had indeed been emotionally unstable and her pheromones were unstable too!
Luoluo spread her little hands, “Mommy has always been like this. She’s really nice when she’s not angry. You’ll get used to it!”
Since Song Yuan was going to partner with Yu Jin again in the next episode to form a family, she silently comforted herself with Luoluo’s words: Just get used to it, just get used to it.
They were still on the road. Song Yuan took Luoluo’s hand and pulled out her phone to call a ride.
After driving Song Yuan and Luoluo away, Yu Jin collapsed onto the back seat.
She deftly rummaged through the drawer, pulled out an inhibitor, and injected herself swiftly and precisely.
But this time was different from before. Even after the car arrived at her doorstep, Yu Jin’s entire body was still wracked with agony.
She knew it, the inhibitor wasn’t working.
Helpless, Yu Jin had to instruct Xiao Liu to drive her to the hospital.
Chen Man sat calmly in her office.
When Xiao Liu helped a disheveled Yu Jin appear at the office door, Chen Man’s expression changed drastically. “Quick, help her onto the bed.”
Chen Man asked Xiao Liu, “Has Yu Jin been having episodes more frequently lately?”
Xiao Liu hesitated, glancing at Yu Jin writhing in pain on the bed.
Yu Jin forced out the words, “He doesn’t know. Xiao Liu, you can go.”
After Xiao Liu left, Yu Jin said, “This week it’s already happened twice. The first time, I took an inhibitor and got better. The second time…”
Yu Jin’s face contorted in pain, making it difficult for her to speak coherently.
Chen Man frowned, her heart aching at the sight of her friend suffering.
“What about the second time?”
“The second time. I was soothed, but afterward, it got worse.”
Chen Man let out a long sigh, as if making a weighty decision. “I won’t give you any more inhibitors.”
Yu Jin clutched her throbbing forehead, veins bulging, and gritted out, “Stop wasting time. Give it to me.”
Chen Man stood firm. “No.”
Yu Jin struggled to stand, dragging her heavy steps toward the door. “I’ll find another doctor.”
Watching Yu Jin’s stubbornness, Chen Man grew furious. “Stop right there!”
Yu Jin ignored her, her hand already turning the doorknob. Chen Man rushed to block the door, easily shoving the weakened Yu Jin back onto the bed.
“You have to accept it, you’re an Omega now! If you keep forcing inhibitor injections, sooner or later, even the strongest inhibitors won’t work on you!”
Pain and torment wracked Yu Jin’s entire body, but she remained silent, stubbornly holding her ground.
Chen Man clenched her teeth, reached into Yu Jin’s pocket, pulled out her phone, and quickly navigated to the contacts list.
She said fiercely, “I’m calling Song Yuan right now. I’ll tell her everything the cause, the process, the outcome! I’ll tell her how much you’re suffering right now, and that because of that absurd night with her, you’ve been injecting inhibitors for five whole years!”
Yujin’s face was already slightly contorted, her entire body in discomfort, but when she heard Chen Man say she was going to call Song Yuan, she still struggled to get up and used all her strength to press down on Chen Man’s finger as she was about to dial.
But it was too late. Chen Man had already made the call, and the beeping sound that followed felt like a death sentence to Yujin.
Panicked, Yujin slapped Chen Man’s arm away. Caught off guard, Chen Man dropped her phone, and it fell to the floor.
Yujin breathed a sigh of relief and quickly crawled over to end the call that was still connecting.
Seeing her friend so stubborn, Chen Man was genuinely angry: “You’re like a rock in a latrine stubborn and hard!”
Drenched in sweat and drained of energy, Yujin collapsed to the floor, a defiant smile curling at the corners of her lips: “I know you’re worried about me, but I can’t accept it, and I won’t.”
Chen Man couldn’t bear to see her like this: “You want to tough it out? But what if you can’t make it through?”
Yujin laughed carefreely: “Then I’ll just have my gland removed. That way, I’ll never have to suffer through the heat cycle again.”
Chen Man felt both heartache and helplessness at Yujin’s situation.
Meanwhile, after Song Yuan and Luoluo returned home, the two quickly took a shower.
Song Yuan dimmed the living room lights, creating a warm, cozy atmosphere under the soft yellow glow. The coffee table was adorned with plump, fresh fruits, and a fairy tale movie played on the large screen mounted on the wall. On the sofa, two figures one big, one small were occasionally bursting into laughter at the movie.
In the middle of it all, Song Yuan got up to use the restroom. When she returned, Luoluo came running over excitedly, holding Song Yuan’s phone: “Mom, Mom! Mommy called!”
Song Yuan hadn’t even dried her hands properly, and her mind was still catching up: “Mommy?”
Oh, it was Yujin that lunatic who had abandoned them halfway.
Song Yuan took the phone, but the call display lasted only a few seconds before the other end hung up.
Luoluo looked up at Song Yuan with sparkling eyes, brimming with excitement.
Seeing her daughter like this, Song Yuan tapped Luoluo’s little head in exasperation: “You, you. How long have you even known Yujin? And already your heart is leaning toward that tsundere weirdo?”
Luoluo pouted and murmured weakly, “Mommy isn’t a tsundere weirdo.”
Song Yuan put her hands on her hips: “I say she is, so she is! Have you forgotten how she left us stranded in the middle of the road today?”
Luoluo fiddled with her fingers: “Maybe Mommy had a reason.”
And so, Luoluo and Song Yuan continued watching the movie while bickering back and forth.
