- You Smell So Good! After Reuniting, My Ex-Boyfriend Forcefully Took Me Back
- Chapter 3 - Eating Milk Candy
“Brother Liang! You finally picked up the phone.”
“Next weekend, us brothers are getting together. You absolutely have to be there!”
“You were abroad for the last few years, and now that you’re finally back, you can’t miss this one.”
“By the way, I heard you’re engaged?”
“Bring the sister-in-law along and introduce her to us!”
Liang Yanxiu’s mind was elsewhere as he gave a distracted, “Mm.”
“Then it’s a deal. I’ll send you the address on WeChat in a bit.”
When Liang Yanxiu stepped out of the observation room, he only saw Lin Xiangyu.
“You’re out?”
Lin Xiangyu was clutching a thick notebook. “I have to attend a meeting, so I’ll have to trouble you to wait for me here, Young Master.”
After saying that, he hurried away.
Fang Zhiyou had just finished getting his blood drawn. He led Fang Leyun slowly through the hospital corridor.
Perhaps because of his poor health, his face remained pale for quite a while after the blood draw.
Fang Leyun didn’t cry or make a fuss. From time to time, he would tilt his head up to look at his father.
“Daddy.”
Fang Zhiyou snapped back to reality and knelt down. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Fang Leyun shook his head and gently pressed his small hand against his father’s cheek.
“Daddy is unhappy.”
Fang Zhiyou froze for a moment, his heart softening.
He gently pulled Fang Leyun into a hug before standing up. “No, Daddy was just thinking about what we should have for lunch today.”
“Is Guoguo hungry? You didn’t eat breakfast this morning either.”
“How about we have dumplings?”
As expected, a child’s attention is easily diverted.
Fang Leyun squirmed in Fang Zhiyou’s arms and clung to him. “I want pork and corn dumplings.”
Then, he wrapped his small arms around Fang Zhiyou’s neck, his voice soft and sweet. “Daddy eat too.”
“Daddy eat a lot, grow tall.”
Fang Zhiyou kissed his son. “Mm, grow tall.”
The street across from the hospital was lined with restaurants. Fang Zhiyou found a familiar chain store and pushed the door open.
The morning sun had been quite bright, but after leaving the hospital, the sky had turned misty and grey.
Sitting at the table, Fang Zhiyou scanned the QR code to order and wiped Fang Leyun’s face.
Once in a restaurant, Fang Leyun became exceptionally excited.
He grabbed his spoon, waiting eagerly for his long awaited dumplings.
When the dumplings arrived, he stared at Fang Zhiyou with wide eyes, waiting for his father to blow on them until they were cool.
“Ah”
He opened his mouth wide, like a little bird waiting to be fed.
Fang Zhiyou had ordered mini dumplings specifically made for children. Fang Leyun ate them in one bite.
With his cheeks puffed out, he looked completely satisfied.
Once they were full, Fang Zhiyou packed an extra portion of dumplings before leaving.
Passing by a shop, Fang Leyun set his sights on a knit puppy displayed in the window.
He stood at the door, refusing to move, and poked at the glass. “Daddy”
Fang Zhiyou took his hand. “We’ll buy it.”
By the time they got into the taxi, Fang Leyun was already asleep, clutching the sky blue knit puppy in his hand.
Fang Zhiyou held him the whole way, looking down at him from time to time.
When they reached the entrance of the community and stepped out of the taxi, Fang Leyun woke up.
Fang Zhiyou had a lot of things to carry, so he had to let the boy walk on his own.
Upon reaching the apartment building, before they even got to the elevator, they saw Grandma Zhang from across the hall waiting for them.
“You’re finally back! Guoguo, let Grandma give you a hug!”
“Grandma!”
The moment he saw Grandma Zhang, Fang Leyun’s eyes lit up. Clutching his knit puppy, he charged toward her like a little cannonball and was swept up into her arms.
“Oh, my dear, slow down.”
Fang Zhiyou felt much lighter. He went upstairs to put everything away before heading over to Grandma Zhang’s house.
“Auntie, we had dumplings at the restaurant today, and I packed a portion for you when we left.”
“You child, why are you being so polite with me?”
Fang Zhiyou walked into the kitchen on his own and put the dumplings into the microwave.
“You haven’t eaten yet, have you?”
Grandma Zhang was feeding Fang Leyun sliced apples. “Not yet. I’m getting old, and my appetite isn’t what it used to be. I’m not hungry.”
“You should eat at least a little.”
Fang Zhiyou stepped out of the kitchen. “I have to go to the shop this afternoon, so I’ll have to trouble you to look after Guoguo for me again.”
Grandma Zhang beamed. “I couldn’t ask for more.”
“When you took Guoguo away today, I felt sluggish all morning.”
“Having Guoguo around usually gives me something to look forward to, a bit of company.”
“When he’s here, I’m always thinking about going to the supermarket to buy fruit or groceries to cook. When Guoguo isn’t here, I don’t even feel like eating.”
“By the way, how were the checkup results?”
The smile on Fang Zhiyou’s face faded slightly.
“Still the same. The doctor said we can’t rush it, just take it slow.”
Grandma Zhang held Fang Leyun distressedly. “Take it slow, then. The child is still young. Maybe things will get better when he grows up.”
Checking the time, Fang Zhiyou brought the dumplings out. “Auntie, please eat first. I’m heading to the shop.”
“Guoguo, Daddy is going to work now. You have to be good at Grandma’s house.”
Fang Leyun nodded, crawled down from the sofa, and followed Fang Zhiyou to the door.
While Fang Zhiyou was changing his shoes, the boy hugged him, burying his face in his father’s arms.
“Daddy, hug.”
Fang Zhiyou smiled and stroked his son’s hair, well aware of his clingy personality.
“Tell me, what do you want Daddy to bring back for you?”
The quirky little fellow acted coy, tugging at his knit puppy.
“I want milk candy.”
Fang Zhiyou pried his mouth open. “Look, your tooth fell out.”
“And you still want milk candy?”
Fang Leyun just kept burrowing into his arms, as if trying to burrow right into Fang Zhiyou’s heart.
Fang Zhiyou felt helpless. “Alright, but you have to brush your teeth every time after you eat candy. Do you remember?”
“Mm, mm, mm!”
