Five Years of Studying Medicine, Three Years of Flirting With Guys - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
As soon as Tang Linsheng spoke, everyone turned their heads in unison, their gazes focusing on him, the trainee nurse who had just been praised by Professor Tang.
The atmosphere was briefly awkward.
Tang Linsheng felt like their eyes were “demon-revealing mirrors,” determined to see exactly what kind of spirit or monster he was. Left with no choice, he braced himself and asked, “Professor Tang, Teacher Wang asked me to inquire if the pre-angiography medication should be taken at the normal dosage or something else?”
Tang Linsheng (the Professor): “Just follow the routine. Has the family arrived?”
Speaking of this, Tang Linsheng’s (the nurse) delicate eyebrows furrowed: “I called them. They said they’re on the way and insisted that the surgery cannot be done until he arrives.”
“He insisted on waiting until he arrived?”
“Yes,” Tang Linsheng pouted helplessly, “I don’t know what he means. He was super aggressive on the phone, just like his dad, he said he could arrive within about half an hour.”
Professor Tang seemed not to notice his stiff conversational transition. After giving instructions to the group of doctors, he nodded to Tang Linsheng, indicating that the family should come to the catheterization lab to sign the pre-operative consent forms once they arrived.
Tang Linsheng nodded. Fortunately, Senior didn’t notice his complaining just now… otherwise, wouldn’t he have become a petty man?!
Tang Linsheng followed behind Professor Tang, preparing to leave, but he felt as if he had forgotten something behind him. His eyebrows knit together, and he turned his head, only to see the group of doctors behind him ducking their heads in unison. In that moment of perfectly synchronized movement, he felt he could almost hear a faint “shua” sound.
He walked a few steps and looked back several times; each time, he felt he could hear that “shua” sound.
“Phew” Seeing Tang Linsheng’s back finally disappear from sight, the doctors let out a collective sigh of relief. Wasn’t it just that they wanted to see up close what this nurse, who had the exact same name as Professor Tang, looked like? Such a coincidence was truly rare. Who knew Nurse Tang would keep turning his head back to look at them? Their necks were about to snap.

Walking out of the office, Tang Linsheng looked at his Senior ahead, who was on the phone arranging the operating room. After some thought, he ran up and raised his hand to pat Professor Tang on the shoulder.
Professor Tang turned his head. Since he was still talking on his cell phone, he merely mouthed the question: “What’s wrong?”
“I wanted to say, during Kong Mingzhao’s previous hospitalizations…” Tang Linsheng was only halfway through his sentence when Professor Tang finished his call. Smiling, he pointed to Tang Linsheng’s mouth and said, “You can speak out loud directly.”
Huh? Reminded by Professor Tang, he realized that because he had been reading his Senior’s lips, he had inadvertently started mouthing words without sound as well. Great, now he’d embarrassed himself…
Tang Linsheng’s face burned uncontrollably. He cleared his throat and said, “I wanted to say, during Kong Mingzhao’s previous hospitalizations, the teachers notified him to have an angiography to check his vascular condition, but he and his family were extremely opposed to it. So, Professor Tang, please be careful when you encounter the family later.”
Professor Tang smiled and nodded, adjusted his glasses, and said, “Thank you, Nurse Tang.”
“…Professor Tang, you can just call me Xiao Tang.” Tang Linsheng flashed a big smile at the man in front of him. His large eyes curved into crescents, and the round flesh of his cheeks puffed out slightly. His teeth were straight and white, making his pink lips look even more delicate.
Professor Tang couldn’t help but laugh; this kid smiled with a warmth that bordered on silliness. He politely pointed to Tang Linsheng’s teeth and said, “Xiao Tang, on your teeth…” After saying that, he turned and left in a great mood.
Almost the instant Professor Tang finished speaking, Tang Linsheng covered his mouth. He licked with his tongue, and his heart was instantly filled with mortification. He wanted to rack up “favorability points” in front of his Senior! It’s all the fault of that mushroom and vegetable bun—it held him back!!
Tang Linsheng licked off the green leaf stuck to his tooth, crying inwardly.
This… how is he supposed to pursue him now? The first tentative battle was a total defeat!
“Xiao Tang, a new patient has arrived. Admit the patient!”
Teacher Wang’s voice called out from the nurse’s station. He quickly responded, suppressed the embarrassment of failing to act cool, and ran over to receive the new patient.
“Is the elderly lady the patient?” Tang Linsheng took the wristband and bedside card from the head nurse and asked the family members standing at the station to bring the old lady to the ward with him.
The old lady had trouble with her legs and walked slowly. Two middle-aged men supported her on either side, slowly following Tang Linsheng to the ward.
Tang Linsheng brought the patient to the ward and performed the admission education. When he asked about the medical history, one of the middle-aged men seemed to have something difficult to say. He glanced at the already full ward, pulled Tang Linsheng aside, and whispered, “Nurse, my mother… it’s not good here.”
He pointed to his head, his tone low and sad: “She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s the year before last. We’ve seen doctors for it. Most of the time her condition is stable, but occasionally the old lady will… have an episode. We’ll have to trouble you.”
Seeing his face full of guilt, Tang Linsheng comforted him: “It’s okay, we will keep a close eye on her now that she’s in the hospital. However, the lady is 80 years old this year and her legs are not good; someone must stay with her at night.”
The man nodded repeatedly. Tang Linsheng then asked him to come to the nurse’s station to sign the forms regarding fall and bed-drop prevention. Just as he was pointing out where to sign, a man rushed toward the nurse’s station. He fiercely slammed his bag onto the counter and shouted, “Who is in charge of my dad! Come out! Which nurse took my dad’s blood pressure! Get the hell out here!”
The nurses present were startled by the sudden noise. Before they could figure out what was happening, they heard him roar a series of words. The flab on his face swung with his speech, and his robust, muscular body blocked the nurse’s station directly. His expression was menacing.
The head nurse regained her composure, stood up, and said kindly, “Please don’t be anxious first. What is your father’s name?”
To her surprise, the man’s eyes glared fiercely at her: “I’ve been coming here with my dad all along, and you don’t know who he is? How are you even a nurse!”
Seeing that the situation wasn’t right, Tang Linsheng told the family member to finish signing and get back to look after the old lady quickly. Seeing many patients and families coming out of the wards to watch, he and other teachers ushered them back.
Hearing the man’s words, Tang Linsheng was speechless. There were so many patients every day; if nurses had to remember the family members in addition to the patients, they wouldn’t need to work at a hospital they could just go challenge The Brain and get rich off their memory skills.
The nurse beside him continued to explain kindly that if he didn’t say his father’s name, they couldn’t find him.
Liu Junxian walked up to Tang Linsheng’s side, patted his shoulder, and whispered a complaint in his ear: “I can’t stand it. Another idiot has arrived.”
Fearing her voice would be heard, Tang Linsheng pushed her toward the treatment room to prepare the afternoon IV fluids. Just as he stepped out of the treatment room, he heard the man roar in a voice that could be heard throughout the entire ward: “My dad’s name is Kong Mingzhao! Which one of you took my dad’s blood pressure! Get the hell out here! My dad just called me! And now he’s being resuscitated?! Which nurse measured it! Get the hell out here!”
Tang Linsheng braked sharply, poked his head out to peek at the man with the robust muscles, swallowed hard, and gauged the difference in combat power between them. He silently took a step backward.
As expected… like father, like son.
Good heavens… are they all this fierce?!
