Fighting For My Wife With Myself After Being Reborn - Chapter 12.2
Ugh, never drinking again.
“OK, let’s settle the bill and sit downstairs for a bit to sober up. You two are wasted.” Chen Miao shook her head. These two were pathetic—just a few drinks and they were down for the count. At this rate, they’d be bullied by the veteran employees at the annual meeting.
Jian Yulan struggled to stand up. Her alcohol-numbed nerves couldn’t quite coordinate her limbs. She looked like an infant who hadn’t mastered motor skills yet.
Clatter—
Jian Yulan started to fall backward. Gu Yinghuai, still in a daze, couldn’t reach out in time to grab her.
“!!” Jian Yulan’s eyes widened. The ceiling was moving backward; the floor was calling her name.
Just as she thought she was going to have a close encounter with the tiles, an arm caught her around the waist. “Looks like we have two little babies among the three of us,” Chen Miao sighed, though her heavy breathing and heaving chest betrayed her true alarm.
“Since you saved my life, I won’t hold it against you,” Jian Yulan mumbled, leaning into Chen Miao. Alcohol was a curse; she couldn’t think or control her actions. Her brain felt like it was wrapped in a shroud, and she was seeing double.
Chen Miao helped her stand. “Since you’re this drunk, I won’t hold it against you either.”
“…” Jian Yulan was too tired to argue and slowly pulled herself up.
Going down the stairs, Chen Miao held a drunk on each side, descending at a snail’s pace.
Jian Yulan kept moaning, “No, no, I think I’m gonna puke.” Fearing she’d actually vomit in the shop, Chen Miao called a waiter and asked for two glasses of honey water.
The waiter said they had it and asked if she needed help carrying someone. Chen Miao declined.
“It’s fine, just get those honey waters quickly. I’m afraid they’ll ruin your floor.”
“Understood, right away.”
Perhaps also worried about the potential mess, the waiter moved quickly and returned with two glasses of honey water shortly.
Chen Miao paid and served her two “ancestors” the honey water.
“Whew—” She exhaled, vowing never to drink with them again.
Two minutes had passed since the ten-minute mark Gu Yinghuai mentioned. Chen Miao kept glancing at the door, hoping to see the woman with “legs as long as a chest.”
Ha, legs reaching the chest. Thinking of that makes me want to laugh again.
She looked at Jian Yulan, who was resting on the table again, and thought: I really want to see how long those legs actually are.
Another minute passed. A figure finally appeared at the door.
Tall. Long legs. Slender, shapely legs wrapped in light-colored jeans. She wore a cropped short-sleeved top, offering a glimpse of smooth, beautiful lines of abs and a waistline.
She wore a baseball cap and a mask that covered almost her entire face, leaving only a pair of eyes visible in the dim light.
The moment Chen Miao saw those legs, her brain short-circuited.
Holy crap, there really are legs that long?
The person at the door seemed to notice her gaze and turned toward her.
Chen Miao waved. The person walked over with long strides.
Chen Miao could bet that everyone in the lounge was staring at her.
That waist-to-hip ratio was insane…
“Hello, I’m Yinghuai’s girlfriend. Thank you for taking care of her.” [Shen Huaixu] thanked Chen Miao. Chen Miao felt a bit awkward being thanked so formally and scratched her cheek, stammering that it was just what a friend should do.
“Huai, wake up.” [Shen Huaixu] gently patted Gu Yinghuai’s cheek. Her girlfriend was tipsy, her pale face flushed like a Fuji apple—it made one want to take a bite to taste the sweet juice.
“Mm… who is it?” Gu Yinghuai’s eyelids felt like they were filled with cement. She forced them open a crack and saw [Shen Huaixu]’s eyes. “Axu, you’re here?”
She gave a soft expression that was enough to melt [Shen Huaixu]’s heart.
If Gu Yinghuai’s friends hadn’t been sitting right there, [Shen Huaixu] would have kissed her right then to teach this little troublemaker a lesson for getting drunk alone.
“It took a moment to find parking. Shall I carry you up?” [Shen Huaixu] knelt down, coaxing the little drunkard.
Once the “little drunkard” confirmed it was her Axu, she relaxed completely, nodding to whatever Shen Huaixu asked.
This total reliance and trust made [Shen Huaixu] feel exceptionally pleased. She picked up the dazed Gu Yinghuai in a princess carry and said to Chen Miao, who was pretending to look at the scenery, “Let’s go, I’ll take you home.”
Chen Miao didn’t really want to be a third wheel, especially with Jian Yulan passed out and her being the only sober one. The “lightbulb” was too bright; she didn’t know how to handle it.
“We live in different places. It’s too much trouble to drop us both off. I can just take a cab with her.”
Chen Miao hoped the girlfriend would take the hint and let them go.
Unfortunately, [Shen Huaixu] insisted.
“It’s very late. I wouldn’t be comfortable, especially with one of you passed out. Besides, Huai wouldn’t agree to let you go back on your own.”
“Let’s go, don’t overthink it. If you feel bored in the car, you can listen to music.”
[Shen Huaixu] waited for Chen Miao’s answer while holding Gu Yinghuai.
Well, looks like there’s no escape. Chen Miao sighed and resignedly woke Jian Yulan, half-carrying her as she followed [Shen Huaixu] out of the lounge.
“I’ll drop you off first. Do you know her address?” [Shen Huaixu] carefully adjusted Gu Yinghuai’s position and buckled her seatbelt before asking Chen Miao.
Chen Miao nodded and gave Jian Yulan’s address.
“Sit tight, we’re heading out.” The black SUV started slowly. Considering her car full of drunks, [Shen Huaixu] didn’t speed, keeping the drive smooth.
Chen Miao sat in the back, holding Jian Yulan’s shoulder so she could rest.
Familiar music flowed through the car—melodies Chen Miao had heard Gu Yinghuai hum during breaks. She glanced casually at the rearview mirror.
The driver had taken off her cap but was still wearing the mask. From Chen Miao’s angle, she could only see a pair of eyes focused on the road.
Wait, are her eyes silver-gray?
Chen Miao thought she was seeing things because of the alcohol. She shook her head and stared back at the eyes in the mirror.
As the lights from the streetlamps and shops flashed by, Chen Miao managed to see the driver’s eyes clearly.
They really were silver-gray… they looked so familiar. Chen Miao couldn’t quite place where she had seen them. She stared a bit too long; the person in the driver’s seat noticed and cast a questioning glance through the mirror.
Crap! Caught red-handed! Chen Miao screamed internally. How awkward! She gave [Shen Huaixu] a stiff, cramped smile and quickly looked away.
Yulan, Yinghuai, someone wake up and save me—
No one heard her prayer, but they had arrived at Jian Yulan’s place.
Chen Miao refused [Shen Huaixu]’s help to carry Jian Yulan up. “No, I can handle it. You take care of Yinghuai. I’ll just sleep over at Yulan’s tonight. Thanks for the ride.”
Seeing her persistence, [Shen Huaixu] didn’t push. “Alright. I believe you have a group chat? Let us know when you’re safely inside, okay?”
Chen Miao agreed. She struggled to drag the “dead weight” Jian Yulan out of the car. “I’m off. Stay safe on the road.”
“Mmh, you too.” [Shen Huaixu] drove off, leaving Chen Miao sighing as she dragged Jian Yulan home.
It wasn’t until she was lying on Jian Yulan’s bed that the answer she had been searching for all the way home finally surfaced.
She snapped her eyes open, filled with disbelief.
“No way… did Yulan actually guess right?” Recalling the silver-gray eyes she saw in the car, Chen Miao couldn’t lie to herself anymore.
Holy crap, Jian Yulan, are you a psychic?!
On the other side, [Shen Huaixu] carried the soundly sleeping Gu Yinghuai back into their home.
She removed Gu Yinghuai’s high heels. The light in the entryway bothered the sleeping girl, who buried her face in [Shen Huaixu]’s neck, refusing to look up.
“Now, it’s our turn,” [Shen Huaixu] whispered, nuzzling the top of Gu Yinghuai’s head. “I’ll be gentler than her…”
Feeding time had begun.
