Fell In Love With My Older Sister’s Friend - Chapter 1
“When is big sister coming back, exactly?” Xu Luzhi finally couldn’t help but leap up from the sofa, asking the question for the twenty-seventh time.
“Soon, soon, big sister is working out of town, the high speed rail is delayed, she’ll be here in a while,” Father Xu said patiently and kindly.
“Are you sleepy, Zhizhi? If you’re sleepy, how about you go to bed first? You can see big sister tomorrow just the same,” Mother Xu half squatted down, gently stroked Xu Luzhi’s head, and coaxed softly.
Xu Luzhi stubbornly shook her head, gathered the strands of hair hanging down the back of her head, and tied them up with a Snoopy elastic band, letting the short tail stick up behind her head.
She leaned on the table, looked at her reflection through the glass cup, felt a bit ridiculous, and immediately let her hair loose again, sighing with worry.
Father Xu watched his younger daughter’s little actions and couldn’t help but smile: “Zhizhi is growing up, she knows how to care about her appearance now.”
Mother Xu’s face was filled with relief: “Yes, tomorrow she’ll be a seventeen year old young woman, time flies so fast. It feels like only yesterday that Weiwei was taking her college entrance exams, and now she’s already working…”
Xu Luzhi wasn’t interested in listening to Mother Xu continue to ramble about those old, stale things. She kept fiddling with her hair with a comb, eventually gave up in annoyance, and lazily flopped down onto the sofa.
The chandelier on the ceiling stung the young girl’s half closed eyes. Her long eyelashes rested on her lower eyelids, her soft hair clung to her pale neck, and the body under her long dress clearly had graceful curves.
Although her face still carried the un made up innocence of youth, it was obvious that she was a natural beauty. Just wait until she blossomed a little more, and she would inevitably be beautiful enough to draw attention, just like her mother and sister.
Thinking of Xu Luwei, Xu Luzhi felt a little irritable. She couldn’t quite name the feeling, only knowing that she didn’t have much affection for this older sister, and even felt a faint annoyance whenever she thought of her.
There was a big age gap between them. Her sister, Xu Luwei, had already left home for university in Weicheng when she started junior high school. She only came back for a few months a year, and even when she did, she would just stay quietly in her room.
Everyone praised Xu Luwei for being beautiful. Although she had the means to be spoiled, she was never competitive or attention seeking, and was outrageously dignified and quiet. She was always gentle and amicable toward her sister, who was seven years younger, to the point that it gave Xu Luzhi a headache.
For as long as she could remember, this home mostly only had three people. Although her sister was indispensable, her presence was truly low, especially Xu Luwei’s dull and boring personality, which made it hard to raise much interest in her.
It had been a long time since they last met, and Xu Luzhi was actually missing her a little. Even though it was past her bedtime and she was yawning with tiredness, she was still stubbornly waiting in the living room for Xu Luwei to return.
At the same time, she also secretly held a grudge: tomorrow was her seventeenth birthday party, and as her own sister, she was only coming back so late, truly unreliable.
Lost in thought, Xu Luzhi pouted, nearly falling asleep in a half-dreamlike state, when she heard Mother Xu softly chuckle by her ear: “Your sister is back!”
Xu Luzhi scrambled up, her eyes sparkling as she stared out the window: “Where?”
Looking out the large French window, the large villa’s courtyard was empty, with no sign of a person, let alone her own sister.
Afraid that she couldn’t see clearly in the dark, she pressed against the glass and scrutinized the area three times, still finding nothing.
Xu Luzhi turned back, pouting in disappointment: “Mom lied to me!”
“I didn’t lie to you.” Mother Xu pressed down on her shoulder, showed her the message on her phone, and said gently, “Your sister said she’s bringing a friend back, and is taking her to a hotel first.”
Father Xu interjected: “How can Weiwei be so inconsiderate? Our home is big enough. If she’s bringing a friend, why stay in a hotel?”
He wasn’t wrong. This three-story villa could easily accommodate a few extra people.
Mother Xu spoke softly: “Weiwei said the girl didn’t want to trouble us and insisted on staying in a hotel.”
Xu Luzhi had no interest in her sister’s friend. Birds of a feather flock together just as her friends were all lively, Xu Luwei’s friend would definitely be a dullard, a ‘stuffy oil bottle’ who would start lecturing after a few words, like an old-fashioned person living in a book.
“Zhizhi, let’s go to the hotel to pick up your sister. Will you go to sleep first, okay?” Mother Xu asked her.
Xu Luzhi suddenly woke up from her daze and shook her head without hesitation: “I’m going too!”
Although she wasn’t interested in her sister’s friend, her sister had rarely come back, and she still needed to personally greet her to show how much she missed her.
As for what happens later, that can wait.
Xu Luzhi was always a very well planned person, never acting out of line, but her parents still treated her like a child, so she was content to continue being their good little girl.
For now, at least, she didn’t have too many little secrets to hide from her family.
They drove to a hotel that was neither too far nor too close. Mother Xu called Xu Luwei, and Xu Luzhi, bored, picked up a mint from the front desk and put it in her mouth.
Sometimes she quite liked the pungent taste; it helped her stay clear headed.
It was a pity that the mint formula at this hotel seemed a bit strange. It melted into a strawberry flavor in her mouth, which was sickly sweet.
Xu Luzhi frowned, her tongue circling inside her mouth. Just as she was hesitating whether to spit it out, Mother Xu had already confirmed the room number, took her hand, and headed to the elevator.
Xu Luzhi could only grudgingly continue to suck on the mint, pretending it wasn’t there.
Xu Luwei was already waiting for them by the elevator. Xu Luzhi glanced up, lazily called out “Sister,” and then lowered her head, listening intermittently to her parents and sister catching up.
It was already eleven at night, and she had to wake up early tomorrow. She was truly a little sleepy.
“Why don’t we let Zhizhi rest in the room first? My friend is currently washing up and will be out soon,” Xu Luwei noticed the young girl dozing off in front of her and suggested.
Her voice was mellow and moving, and her name, Luwei, meaning “Rose,” suited her beautiful but harmless, and not overly stunning.
Xu Luzhi had no objection to her suggestion, nodded casually, and let Xu Luwei lead her forward by the hand.
As soon as she got close, she smelled a faint perfume on her sister, a fresh bitter tea scent, with a hint of astringency that brought to mind the scent of old books. It was a perfect match for the dignified and generous Xu Luwei.
Meanwhile, she could only secretly go to the boutique shop after class, seriously sniffing again and again, and ultimately reluctantly putting the perfume down, only leaving a lingering faint scent on her wrist and behind her ears.
The Xu family had very strict rules. Although her parents were open-minded and gentle, rarely even raising their voices, they subtly reminded them of various rules, and no one dared to disobey.
Xu Luwei was a typical product of their upbringing: graceful, cultivated, gentle, and quiet a person everyone envied.
And Xu Luzhi, to outsiders, was still a good girl. At the rebellious age of seventeen, she still obediently kept her short student haircut and wore a clean school uniform. Even though her height had already reached 165 cm, the most rebellious thing she had done was go to a karaoke bar with her female classmates in the evening.
Now, led by her sister to the room, she kept her head half-lowered, her dark hair falling to cover her eyes, making it look as if she were already asleep.
Xu Luwei lightened her steps, led her into the room, and said softly, “Zhizhi, you lie down on the bed for a while. I’ll go talk to Mom and Dad about something, and I’ll be back soon.”
Xu Luzhi barely nodded. Listening to Xu Luwei’s retreating footsteps and confirming that the door was closed, she finally opened her eyes with relief and curiously looked around the room.
A clean, spacious king-size room, with simple and stylish decor. The room was quiet, with only the faint humming of the central air conditioner.
Some clothes were scattered by the bed, and a large bag was placed on a chair. Xu Luzhi quickly glimpsed some lace designs, instinctively looked away as if burned, and didn’t dare to look more closely.
Although she knew that they were both women and there was nothing to be embarrassed about, the sudden thought of her sister saying, “my friend is still washing up,” made her feel a little shy.
She pricked up her ears and heard the faint sound of running water in the bathroom, flowing openly. It seemed the other person was unaware of her unexpected arrival.
Xu Luzhi hesitated, walked to the bathroom door, and was debating whether to give a warning. After all… if the person thought her sister was present and came out improperly dressed, it would be quite awkward.
The closer she got to the bathroom, the louder the water became. She could even hear a faint singing voice, a melody without words, hummed carelessly, echoing in the small space, like a feather fluttering in the air, tickling the heart.
It was the first time Xu Luzhi had heard such a moving tune. Simply humming it casually was enough to easily distract her, leaving her stunned where she stood.
She recalled a trip with her parents to Tibet. Oxygen was scarce there, and everyone in their group was out of breath. Yet, a few Tibetan girls, dressed in elaborate traditional clothes, bounced toward them, singing loudly as they walked. Their voices were just as distant, ethereal, and soul-stirring.
Xu Luzhi was lost in listening, standing there motionless. To hear more clearly, she even leaned closer, almost pressing against the door panel.
The hotel bathroom had a frosted glass door. She couldn’t see the scene inside, but from certain angles, she could inadvertently see a beautiful silhouette. Even just a vague shadow conveyed a sense of charm and grace with every gesture.
It wasn’t until the singing faded and the sound of water gradually stopped that Xu Luzhi suddenly came to her senses, realizing what she had done.
Eavesdropping on her sister’s friend singing while taking a shower! And even lingering outside the bathroom like a creep, a peeping Tom.
Her face instantly flushed. Realizing the other person had finished bathing, she quickly rushed back to the bed to pretend to be asleep, remembering to tread lightly as she ran.
Xu Luzhi lay on the large bed, covering her face with the thin blanket, feeling her heart pound. For the first time, she was plunged into a state of helpless panic.
Yet, that low voice and the curved silhouette kept replaying in her mind, and she couldn’t find the stop button.
She had to unscrew the bottle of mineral water by the bed and drink half of it. After taking many deep breaths, she finally calmed her mind, patiently telling herself that they were both women, and it was no big deal.
Besides, she was still a child; no one would blame her.
Just as Xu Luzhi had managed to complete her psychological self counseling and settled down to feign sleep, she heard an alluring voice, with a lazy laugh: “Weiwei, please hand me my underwear.”
