- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 87 - Do You Dare Kiss Me?
Seeing Bai Hansui publicly humiliate him in front of so many people, Huo Chilin’s expression darkened instantly.
Bai Hansui continued, “Back when the Shen family went bankrupt, you immediately dumped Shen Lai. Now that I’m in trouble, you’re dumping me too!”
“What’s the difference between you and me?”
Huo Chilin replied coldly, “I broke up with you because you lied to me. It has nothing to do with anyone else.”
“Besides, you were the one who harmed Shen Lai first. How could I possibly accept a malicious woman as my girlfriend?”
Bai Hansui could no longer hold back and lunged at Huo Chilin, but before she could reach him, the police forcibly dragged her away.
“Huo Chilin, I did all this for you! You can’t treat me like this!”
Her resentful voice echoed through the forest before fading into silence.
After this incident, Bai Hansui’s reputation was completely ruined, and the livestream viewership soared to an unprecedented 50 million.
For a while, the trending searches were flooded with topics about Bai Hansui:

Due to the massive fallout, the show was once again suspended by the authorities.
Director Miao was on the verge of tears.
Could these people just let him finish filming one episode of the show properly?!
And Huo Chilin… he had promised the show wouldn’t face any issues, yet his own girlfriend ended up sabotaging it.
After the show wrapped up, Shen Lai was about to return to her tent to pack when a deep voice called out from behind her, “Shen Lai!”
She turned around to see Huo Chilin standing there.
With no one else around, Huo Chilin fixed his gaze on her. “You said before that as long as I broke up with Bai Hansui and made her get rid of the baby, you’d get back together with me. Now I’ve done it.”
Truth be told, when Huo Chilin first heard that Bai Hansui had miscarriage, he actually felt a sense of relief.
He had been struggling with how to bring up the topic with her, and this saved him a lot of trouble.
But he never expected Bai Hansui would go so far as to fake a pregnancy just to win him back.
Shen Lai laughed at his words. “Did I ever say I’d get back together with you?”
Huo Chilin frowned. “What do you mean?”
Shen Lai shrugged. “I never agreed to that. You’re the one who jumped to conclusions.”
Just last night, Shen Lai had appeared fragile and vulnerable in front of him. Yet after just one night, she was suddenly turning her back on him.
Even if Huo Chilin was slow, he now realized he had been used by Shen Lai. Clenching his fists, he gritted his teeth and said, “You tricked me?”
Shen Lai arched an eyebrow. “You can cheat, but I can’t use you?”
A vein throbbed at Huo Chilin’s temple. Connecting today’s events, the fake pregnancy report and the evidence that seemed prepared in advance, everything suddenly fell into place.
No wonder Shen Lai had suddenly changed her attitude toward him. It wasn’t that she had second thoughts, she had used him to force Bai Hansui’s hand, exposing her true nature to the public.
Breathing heavily, Huo Chilin squeezed out the words through gritted teeth, “So you never had any intention of getting back together with me? You just wanted to push Bai Hansui into showing her true colors?”
It seems Huo Chilin isn’t that stupid after all. Shen Lai said coolly, “When we were dating, you already had Bai Hansui. Then when my family had problems, you immediately broke up with me. Do you really think I’d be foolish enough to step into the same pit twice?”
Huo Chilin’s chest heaved up and down. He wanted to retort, but no sound came out.
After a long pause, he let out a hoarse, dry voice, “I was wrong about what happened before. I promise I won’t do anything like that to you again.”
Shen Lai smiled faintly. “Huo Chilin, trust is for those with a heart. You don’t have one.”
“You could abandon Bai Hansui, who’s to say you wouldn’t do the same to me someday? I don’t want to repeat history and end up like Bai Hansui.”
Without another glance at Huo Chilin, she turned and walked away.
Watching Shen Lai’s retreating figure, Huo Chilin felt as if something had been hollowed out from his chest. A cold wind whistled in, making his heart ache.
For the first time, he deeply regretted what he had done. If not for his past actions, Shen Lai would still be his girlfriend now, and the one standing by her side would be him, not Pei Jingyan, the latecomer.
When Shen Lai returned to the tent, Pei Jingyan was leaning against the side with his arms crossed, watching his assistant pack up.
Hearing footsteps, Pei Jingyan tilted his head slightly, raising an eyebrow. “Done chatting with your ex?”
As he spoke, he glanced in the direction not far away, where the faint outline of a tall figure could be seen staring intently at them.
Shen Lai remained composed. “Yeah, we’re done.”
Pei Jingyan smirked without warmth. “Your ex helped you out so much. Shouldn’t you properly thank him?”
His tone carried a hint of sarcasm. Shen Lai shot him an annoyed look. “I already told you, it was all just an act.”
If it weren’t for forcing Bai Hansui to reveal her true colors, she wouldn’t have bothered pretending with Huo Chilin.
Pei Jingyan let out a vague, ambiguous hum.
Shen Lai didn’t feel like arguing about it and changed the subject. “Are the things packed?”
Pei Jingyan glanced at his busy assistant inside the tent, his tone slightly less icy than before. “Almost.”
Due to the severe backlash from the Bai Hansui incident and the involvement of legal authorities, the show had temporarily halted filming. All guests were sent back to await further notice.
As for when the show might resume, no one could say for sure.
Shen Lai looked at Pei Jingyan. His profile was outlined by the candlelight beside them. “I haven’t thanked you yet for today.”
Pei Jingyan raised an eyebrow. “For what?”
Shen Lai feigned nonchalance. “If it weren’t for you bringing out that evidence, Bai Hansui wouldn’t have been exposed.”
And if it weren’t for Pei Jingyan’s drone, she might have been the one framed today.
Pei Jingyan smirked again, his smile not reaching his eyes. “Always just a verbal thank you. Miss Shen, isn’t that a bit too perfunctory?”
Shen Lai gave him a puzzled look. “Then how do you want me to thank you?”
She had no money, she couldn’t afford anything expensive. Besides, Pei Jingyan hardly needed her meager offerings.
Pei Jingyan took a slow step forward, his shadow falling over her. His deep, dark eyes lowered to meet hers, his voice low. “What do you think?”
Without hesitation, Shen Lai replied, “You don’t lack anything. Should I kiss you as thanks?”
The corner of Pei Jingyan’s eye curved slightly, a playful smile tugging at his lips. “Would you dare?”
Shen Lai stiffened, clearly not expecting Pei Jingyan to play along with her words.
Wouldn’t most people just brush it off?
Meeting Pei Jingyan’s slightly teasing gaze, she swallowed hard. If she said she didn’t dare, it would feel like admitting defeat in his eyes.
She lifted her chin defiantly. “Why wouldn’t I dare?”
With that, she stood on her tiptoes and quickly planted a peck on Pei Jingyan’s cheek.
