- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 85 - Using a Child as a Pawn
At the mention of “surveillance footage,” Bai Hansui’s face flashed with panic, her voice stiff. “W-what surveillance?”
Shen Lai raised an eyebrow. “Oh, sorry, I forgot to tell you. My husband was worried something might happen to me, so he specifically sent a drone to follow me. The footage of you falling should have been captured too.”
Then she turned to Pei Jingyan, deliberately emphasizing her tone: “Right, darling?”
Hearing Shen Lai’s coquettish “darling,” Pei Jingyan, who had remained silent until now, curled his lips into a faint smile. “Mm.”
[Shen Lai is so smart! She actually had a backup plan!]
[Pei Jingyan cares about Shen Lai so much? He even sent a drone to follow her?]
[If I were Pei Jingyan, I’d do the same. In just a few days on the show, Shen Lai’s already been hospitalized multiple times.]
[The key point is, if there’s drone footage, we’ll know what really happened just now, right?]
[Doesn’t anyone think Shen Lai’s confidence means she definitely didn’t do it? Otherwise, why would she dare mention Pei Jingyan sending a drone? It’d be like shooting herself in the foot.]
Hearing this, Huo Chilin frowned slightly, his gaze shifting between Shen Lai and Pei Jingyan. Something about their interaction felt off, though he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
Pei Jingyan pulled out his phone, scrolled through his contacts, and dialed his assistant. “Bring it over.”
Soon after, Pei Jingyan’s assistant arrived and handed him a memory card. “Mr. Pei, this is the footage the drone just recorded.”
Pei Jingyan gave a faint hum of acknowledgment.
At the sight of the memory card in the assistant’s hand, Bai Hansui panicked.
She had no idea a drone had been filming them earlier.
As Pei Jingyan moved to insert the memory card into a laptop, Bai Hansui blurted out in alarm, “Wait!”
Her sudden outburst drew everyone’s attention.
Feeling countless eyes on her, Bai Hansui swallowed hard, her voice dry. “When… when did you arrange for this recording?”
Pei Jingyan lifted a brow. “Around the time the show started.”
Cold sweat broke out on Bai Hansui’s palms. It suddenly dawned on her why Shen Lai had remained so composed even when framed.
Shen Lai had a backup plan all along.
Not only that, perhaps from the moment she agreed to team up with Bai Hansui, Shen Lai had already anticipated what she would do today.
A chill crept up from Bai Hansui’s feet, as if she were being swallowed by an endless abyss.
It was too late to stop it now. As Pei Jingyan inserted the memory card into the laptop, the screen lit up, and a familiar voice came through the speakers.
“But I am curious, what was your reason for smearing me behind my back? Was it just for Huo Chilin?”
Those familiar with the voice quickly recognized it as Shen Lai’s.
Following her words, Bai Hansui’s voice rang out: “What exactly makes me inferior to you? Why is it that whenever I’m around you, I always end up as your supporting act?!”
Hearing this, the crowd exchanged glances, unable to resist stealing a look at Bai Hansui.
Her face was deathly pale, as if frozen in place.
The conversation between the two continued through the speakers: “I don’t recall ever forcing you to be my friend, did I? If you felt wronged, you could have just walked away. But you didn’t.”
” You took all the benefits I gave you while acting like my generosity was an insult, like it tainted your dignity. Bai Hansui, I’ve never met someone so hypocritical.”
Accompanying these words was Bai Hansui’s heavy, rapid breathing, as if she had been struck in a sore spot.
Shen Lai’s voice dripped with sarcasm, “Someone like you only deserves to rot in the dark, damp sewers for the rest of your life. You’ll never deserve a true friend.”
Bai Hansui suddenly said, “Do you really think I’ll lose to you?”
With those words, everyone present and the live-stream audience watched as Bai Hansui took a step back then deliberately tumbled down the hillside.
From start to finish, Shen Lai hadn’t laid a finger on her.
The final image froze on Bai Hansui’s eerie smile directed at Shen Lai, sending chills down everyone’s spines.
[Holy shit, Bai Hansui’s smile just scared me to death!!!]
[She really threw herself down on purpose, I can’t believe it!]
[Is Bai Hansui insane? Just to frame Shen Lai, she’d even sacrifice her own child?!]
[Old habits die hard, she framed Shen Lai before, and now she’s doing it again!]
[Good thing I didn’t pick sides earlier. I knew Shen Lai wouldn’t do something like this in public. Plus, her dislike for Bai Hansui has always been obvious, why would she resort to such underhanded tactics?]
[Shen Lai is so unlucky to be tangled up with someone like Bai Hansui. Without video evidence, no amount of talking would’ve cleared her name.]
Once the video surfaced, the way people looked at Bai Hansui changed instantly.
Panicked, Bai Hansui quickly defended herself, “It wasn’t like that, Shen Lai pushed me!”
But no one believed her now. The drone footage had captured everything, Bai Hansui had clearly thrown herself down.
Even Tong Miaoling couldn’t help but resent Bai Hansui. She had trusted her so much, even spoke up for her publicly, only to realize she’d been used as a pawn.
At that thought, Tong Miaoling’s gaze toward Shen Lai turned uneasy.
Shen Lai, however, felt nothing. Tong Miaoling had always been close to Bai Hansui, it was natural for her to defend her.
Not like she planned on getting along with her anyway.
The most shocked person present was Huo Chilin. He never imagined Bai Hansui would go so far as to sacrifice their child just to frame Shen Lai.
Blinding rage surged through him, his eyes so bloodshot they seemed to drip crimson. He growled, “Are you even human? How could you use your own child like this?!”
Bai Hansui shook her head frantically, her voice trembling, “I didn’t, you have to believe me! Pei Jingyan and Shen Lai are framing me!”
Pei Jingyan spoke leisurely, “Young Master Huo, don’t get worked up. She didn’t kill your child.”
Huo Chilin paused, slowly turning to Pei Jingyan. His voice was low. “What did you say?”
Pei Jingyan smirked. “Because she was never pregnant. What child?”
The forest air seemed to freeze, as if someone had hit pause, even the dust hung suspended in midair.
The next second, whispers exploded like a lit fuse, and the barrage of comments nearly set the screen on fire.
[What kind of bombshell is this?! Bai Hansui wasn’t pregnant?!]
[Wait, didn’t she bleed? How could she not be pregnant?]
[If she’d fake falling to frame Shen Lai, what wouldn’t she do?]
[Exactly, and it’s obvious Bai Hansui planned this long ago. It wouldn’t be hard for her to prepare some blood in advance, right?]
Huo Chilin’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at Pei Jingyan in disbelief. “What did you say?”
Pei Jingyan raised an eyebrow slightly. “Don’t tell me Young Master Huo didn’t know, the doctor who issued Bai Hansui’s pregnancy report is her relative?”
