- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 36 - All Choices Align with the Wife's Preferences
Under the watchful eyes of the live-stream audience, Director Miao revealed Pei Jingyan and Shen Lai’s answer boards.
“Now, let’s see how many answers the Pei Shen team matched!”
As the words fell, Director Miao began checking their responses.
“First question: rice or noodles?”
Director Miao glanced at their answers. “Both Mr. Pei and Shen Lai chose noodles, one point!”
Shen Lai let out a sigh of relief upon hearing this.
At least they started off smoothly, getting the first question right and avoiding a disastrous opening.
[Great start, keep it up!]
[Not bad! I thought they’d fail right from the first question.]
[It’s just one question, why celebrate so early? Wait until they get more right before cheering.]
[Exactly. Remember how Huo Chilin and Bai Hansui got the first few right but bombed the rest? Don’t get too cocky yet.]
[Why are there haters from other ships here? Get them out!]
While the comments section erupted into arguments, Director Miao announced the second answer.
“Second question: exercise or lounging?”
“Shen Lai chose lounging, and so did Mr. Pei, preference matched! Another point!”
Shen Lai shot a glance at Pei Jingyan.
She never expected someone like him to pick lounging. She had assumed he was the high-energy type who couldn’t sit still for a second.
“Third question: gaming or movies?”
Shen Lai didn’t hold much hope for this one.
She was certain a man like Pei Jingyan wouldn’t be into gaming.
But when Director Miao revealed his answer, she froze, turning to him in disbelief. “You play games too?”
Pei Jingyan gave her a sidelong glance. “What, am I not allowed to?”
Shen Lai just found it hard to imagine gaming as part of Pei Jingyan’s lifestyle. Weren’t busy CEOs like him supposed to be married to their work? How did he even have time for games?
Casually, she asked, “What games do you play?”
Pei Jingyan replied lazily, “Honor of Kings.”
“Honor of Kings?” Shen Lai’s eyes lit up. “What a coincidence, I play that too!”
Eagerly, she pressed, “What’s your rank?”
Pei Jingyan’s tone was breezy. “Glory of Kings.”
Shen Lai’s eyes widened in shock.
She had been stuck in Eternal Diamond for ages, yet Pei Jingyan was already at Glory of Kings?
He was insanely good at gaming!
Clearing her throat, she ventured, “Maybe we can play together sometime? Carry me?”
Meeting her hopeful gaze, Pei Jingyan arched a brow. “Depends on my mood.”
While they chatted, Director Miao had already checked up to the sixth answer, their current score was five points!
Meaning, they had matched all five previous questions.
[These two are insane! Their preferences are perfectly aligned.]
[Well, that’s why they’re married. (smirk)]
[It’s just five questions. The Yan Wu team matched ten, celebrate when you surpass them.]
[Why do so many people seem bitter about Pei Jingyan and Shen Lai doing well? Focus on your own failing CPs first. At least these two did better than that pair who only matched two answers.]
Amid the heated comments, the Pei Shen team scored another point.
Director Miao moved to the seventh question. “Seventh question: Americano or milk tea?”
No suspense here, Shen Lai chose milk tea.
“Alright, Shen Lai has chosen the first option,” Director Miao announced. “Now, let’s see what President Pei’s answer is.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he glanced at Pei Jingyan’s answer and froze, his expression turning indescribably complex. “President Pei has chosen… also bubble tea!”
[??? Wait, a domineering CEO drinking bubble tea?]
[This image is too beautiful; I can’t even imagine it.]
[So this is the real President Pei? I’m speechless!!]
[Who could picture a cold, aloof CEO sitting in a leather chair sipping coffee? The contrast is unreal!]
Hearing this, Shen Lai looked at Pei Jingyan in surprise.
Pei Jingyan drinking bubble tea?
Shen Lai couldn’t help but imagine the scene and found it somewhat jarring.
She had always assumed Pei Jingyan wouldn’t like such sweet, indulgent drinks.
Seemingly reading her thoughts, Pei Jingyan said nonchalantly, “What, men can’t drink bubble tea?”
It wasn’t that men couldn’t drink bubble tea, it was just that Shen Lai never pegged Pei Jingyan as someone who would enjoy it.
But she couldn’t be too blunt on camera, so she sidestepped the issue. “Of course not. I just thought you’d prefer coffee or something.”
Pei Jingyan gave her a deep look. “There’s a lot you don’t know about me.”
Shen Lai felt there was more to his words, but by the time she looked back at him, he had already averted his gaze. A strange feeling flickered in her heart, though she didn’t dwell on it.
For the remaining questions, their answers were perfectly aligned, all twenty of them, without a single discrepancy.
This had never happened with any of the previous guest pairs.
Unsurprisingly, the two of them won this round.
The live chat, which had been full of sarcasm just a minute ago, fell completely silent.
[All twenty answers the same? That’s insane!]
[Are these two cheating? How is it possible to match on every single question?]
[I bet President Pei just picked whatever his wife likes, especially the bubble tea part. That was way too obvious.]
[Agreed. He’s totally copying his wife, lol.]
[Didn’t Young Master Huo say earlier that President Pei kept sneaking glances at Shen Lai? He must’ve been peeking then, right?]
[Come on, even if they cheated at the start, how could they keep it up? Is it so hard to accept that their preferences just align?]
Even Shen Lai was stunned.
She had been prepared to settle for anything above last place, but they ended up taking first.
She glanced at Pei Jingyan and whispered, “You actually share so many of my preferences?”
Pei Jingyan gave her a sidelong look. “Only realizing it now?”
Shen Lai swallowed hard.
To think all their tastes aligned, was this fate or some twisted karma?
In the corner, Huo Chilin watched the scene unfold, his dark eyes smoldering with an almost imperceptible fire, suppressing a brewing storm of gloom.
Shen Lai’s answers had been based entirely on her own preferences but how could Pei Jingyan’s match hers exactly?
He refused to believe Pei Jingyan genuinely enjoyed bubble tea or video games.
Outsiders might not know, but Huo Chilin had never heard of Pei Jingyan showing interest in such leisurely pastimes.
A sinking feeling crept into Huo Chilin’s heart. Had Pei Jingyan actually liked Shen Lai all along?
Otherwise, how could he know her preferences so well?
The thought set off an alarm in Huo Chilin’s heart without warning. A sudden surge of panic and unease welled up in his chest, coalescing into an invisible current that thrashed wildly through his body.
