- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 28 - So Eager to Throw Yourself Into My Arms
The last three words from Pei Jingyan carried a slight upward lilt, his deep, magnetic voice wrapping around Shen Lai like a whisper. Warm breath seeped into her ears, teasing them until the tips burned.
A strange shiver ran down Shen Lai’s spine. She pushed back against him. “It better not be, or I’ll report you.”
Only then did Pei Jingyan straighten up, watching her with an amused smirk.
Refusing to waste any more time on him, Shen Lai focused on searching for clues.
Her rival was clearly unreliable, she could only rely on herself.
Just then, Wu Qi, not far away, found a breadcrumb. The group’s attention immediately shifted, urging her to open it.
Shen Lai’s heart leaped into her throat.
Had Wu Qi really found the Big Bad Wolf’s clue so quickly?
But when Wu Qi unfolded the slip of paper, it was blank, not a single word.
False alarm.
Shen Lai’s heart crashed back down, almost audibly thudding. Seeing the other guests’ disappointed expressions, she mirrored them.
Once everyone resumed their search, Shen Lai sped up her efforts.
She had to find and destroy the clues before anyone else.
One by one, more breadcrumbs hidden by the production team were discovered, though most turned out to be blank slips.
Only Yan Rui was lucky half an hour into the game, he found the Hunter’s Silver Bullet.
The Hunter’s Silver Bullet allowed him to forcibly check one guest’s identity, giving him a chance to uncover the Big Bad Wolf.
“Mr. Yan, who do you choose to verify?” Director Miao asked.
Yan Rui didn’t answer immediately, his gaze sweeping over the group.
When it landed on Shen Lai, her heart clenched.
Was he going to check her identity?
Tension coiled inside her, but she couldn’t let it show. She forced a calm smile.
Yan Rui recalled how Shen Lai had willingly shared breakfast with Wu Qi earlier and quickly shifted his attention to another guest.
Shen Lai exhaled silently in relief.
After a long pause, Yan Rui finally spoke. “I choose to verify Young Master Huo.”
[I thought Yan Rui would pick President Pei, he seems more like the Big Bad Wolf. Didn’t expect him to choose Young Master Huo.]
[Maybe Yan Rui also has a thing for Suisui and deliberately picked Huo? Our Suisui is just too irresistible!]
[Hey, he already has a girlfriend. Can you shippers have some decency?]
[Seriously, why does everything have to be about romance? Do you think your idol is some celestial beauty?]
[Ugh, Bai Hansui’s fans are so shameless. Get lost with your delusions!]
Director Miao confirmed, “Are you sure you’re choosing Young Master Huo?”
Yan Rui nodded. “Yes.”
“Alright.” Director Miao turned to Huo Chilin. “Then we’ll now ask Young Master Huo to reveal his identity.”
Huo Chilin stepped forward and, in front of everyone, pulled out the Little Red Riding Hood emblem the production team had given him before the game began.
“Young Master Huo’s identity is Little Red Riding Hood!” Director Miao announced loudly through the megaphone.
Yan Rui shrugged slightly in disappointment. “Seems my guess was wrong.”
Still, at least he had ruled out Huo Chilin. The Bif Bad Wolf had to be among the remaining four.
After the brief interlude, everyone resumed their search for clues. Pei Jingyan, bored out of his mind, trailed behind Shen Lai, watching her scurry around like a mouse stealing rice.
Just as he was about to tease her, his peripheral vision caught something beneath a rock.
His brow twitched slightly as he turned on his heel and walked over. With a casual flick of his long fingers, he pulled out a slip of paper stained with yellow pigment from the crevice.
Pei Jingyan raised an eyebrow.
So this was the “breadcrumb” the production team had mentioned.
He sat down on the rock and casually unfolded the slip. The moment he saw its contents, his eyelids gave a faint jump.
Just as Shen Lai was diligently searching, Pei Jingyan slowly raised his hand. “I found the clue about the Big Bad Wolf.”
Shen Lai froze. She turned to look at Pei Jingyan, her gaze landing on the slip in his hand.
Her heart skipped a beat as she hurried over. “You found the clue? Let me see.”
She reached out to snatch it from him, but Pei Jingyan lifted his hand, effortlessly dodging her.
“Patience,” he said leisurely. “Let’s wait for everyone to gather before we look at it together.”
If the other guests saw it, her identity as the Big Bad Wolf would be exposed.
Shen Lai grew anxious. “Come on, let’s check it first. I’m dying of curiosity.”
Pei Jingyan was a full head taller than her, forcing her to tiptoe and stretch her arms to reach the slip. But as if deliberately making things difficult for her, he raised his hand higher and higher.
Pei Jingyan looked down at Shen Lai squirming in his arms and teased, “Miss Shen, the cameras are rolling. Are you really this eager to throw yourself at me?”
Shen Lai’s face flushed instantly. “I’m not! Just let me see the slip.”
Pei Jingyan smirked lazily. “No.”
Sweat beaded on Shen Lai’s forehead as she softened her tone. “Please, let me take a look first. What if it’s a false lead?”
With one hand holding the slip high and the other gripping Shen Lai’s restless waist, Pei Jingyan’s voice was nonchalant, laced with playful indifference. “Miss Shen, if you keep wriggling like this, I’ll have to film the rest of the show with a tent in my pants.”
Shen Lai’s ears burned red. Their current position was undeniably intimate, as if they were whispering sweet nothings.
She bit her lip. “You’re so stingy. Letting me see it won’t cost you a piece of flesh.”
Pei Jingyan arched a brow. “You’re awfully eager to see what’s on this slip. Could it be… you’re the Big Bad Wolf?”
Shen Lai’s heart pounded violently. Under Pei Jingyan’s piercing gaze, she felt inexplicably guilty and averted her eyes.
Just as she hesitated whether to confess to him, a deep voice abruptly cut through their conversation.
“President Pei, I heard you found the clue.”
Huo Chilin had appeared beside them unnoticed. His eyes flickered coldly as he took in their intimate stance.
Pei Jingyan raised an eyebrow and casually wrapped an arm around Shen Lai’s waist. “Something like that.”
Shen Lai’s eyes widened as she stiffly turned to glare at Pei Jingyan.
Where did he think his hand was?!
Pei Jingyan’s lips curled with amusement, his expression clearly saying, Play along.
Remembering that the clue exposing her as the Big Bad Wolf was still in his possession, Shen Lai took a deep breath and forced herself to endure it.
“Then let me see it,” Huo Chilin said, reaching for the slip.
Shen Lai broke into a nervous sweat, frantically signaling Pei Jingyan with her eyes. But Pei Jingyan acted as if he didn’t notice, not even sparing her a glance.
Just as Huo Chilin reached out to take it, Pei Jingyan suddenly withdrew his hand. “Wait a moment.”
Huo Chilin’s hand froze mid-air, his brow furrowing slightly. “President Pei, what do you mean by this?”
Pei Jingyan held the slip of paper between two fingers, speaking unhurriedly, “If I just hand it over to you like this, what if you’re the Big Bad Wolf?”
Huo Chilin’s frown deepened. “What are you implying? You suspect me?”
Pei Jingyan shrugged. “After all, the director said anyone could be the Big Bad Wolf, didn’t they?”
Huo Chilin’s tone turned colder. “By that logic, President Pei could also be the Big Bad Wolf.”
Pei Jingyan smiled faintly. “If I were the Big Bad Wolf, wouldn’t it be quicker to just destroy this slip? Since none of you would know, why would I go through all this trouble?”
Huo Chilin fell silent, his jaw tightening.
The atmosphere grew tense for a moment. After a long pause, Huo Chilin said coldly, “Since President Pei doesn’t trust me, let’s just call everyone over. Will that satisfy you?”
Pei Jingyan spread his hands, indicating he had no objections.
Huo Chilin snorted lightly and summoned the others.
The other two pairs of guests, hearing that Pei Jingyan had found a clue about the Big Bad Wolf, quickly gathered.
“President Pei, can we open it now?” Huo Chilin said. “Everyone’s here, so there’s no chance for me to tamper with anything.”
This time, Pei Jingyan didn’t stop him and handed over the slip.
By the time Shen Lai tried to intervene, it was too late, Huo Chilin had already unfolded the paper, and the others craned their necks curiously to see.
“The Big Bad Wolf has a small black mole under their right ear.”
At these words, everyone exchanged glances.
Shen Lai’s palms grew clammy with sweat.
She wasn’t sure if she had a small black mole under her ear.
Bai Hansui mused, “So, whoever has a black mole under their left ear is the Big Bad Wolf?”
Huo Chilin chimed in, “In that case, we can just check and find out who it is.”
To ensure fairness, the three pairs of guests inspected each other.
Soon, it was Shen Lai’s turn. She instinctively closed her eyes, her body tense, bracing for her identity to be exposed.
However, after a glance, Yan Rui patted her shoulder. “Not you. You don’t have a mole under your right ear.”
Shen Lai was stunned. She slowly opened her eyes, still dazed.
She hadn’t been discovered?
Just then, someone nearby exclaimed, “Found it! Wu Qi is the Big Bad Wolf!”
