- Fake Pregnancy? Oops, It’s Real — and So Is the Husband
- Chapter 27 - The First to Devour You
At first, Tong Miaoling thought it was the Big Bad Wolf who had arrived, but when she saw the staff badge on the person’s chest, she relaxed.
It was just a crew member.
“Can I help you?”
The staff member said, “Teacher Tong, did you lose your microphone?”
“Microphone?” Tong Miaoling frowned. “I don’t think so…”
She looked down and realized the microphone that had been clipped to her collar earlier was now missing.
“The audience in the livestream just reported they couldn’t hear you, so Director Miao asked me to check,” the staff member explained. “Since your microphone is missing, it’ll affect the rest of the recording. You might need to come with me to get a new one.”
Tong Miaoling hesitated. “But I’m still filming the show.”
The staff reassured her, “Don’t worry, it’ll be quick. It won’t interfere with your task.”
Tong Miaoling figured that not having a microphone would indeed be troublesome. Reluctantly, she agreed, “Alright, but hurry up.”
The staff member gestured for her to follow. As Tong Miaoling walked past, the person removed their face mask.
Then, the livestream audience saw a stunningly beautiful face beneath the mask, Shen Lai, flashing a wicked grin at the camera.
[??? HOLY CRAP!! SHEN LAI IS THE BIG BAD WOLF!!]
[AHHHHHHH MY QUEEN, SHEN LAI, YOU’RE HEARTLESS!]
[Actress Tong trusted you, and you betrayed her! You have no soul!]
[Shen Lai’s move was so sneaky, even I didn’t suspect her, let alone Tong Miaoling!]
[Did Shen Lai memorize the entire Art of War or something?!]
After walking for a while without reaching their destination, Tong Miaoling frowned and turned back. “Are we there yet?”
Before she could finish, she saw Shen Lai standing behind her.
Tong Miaoling’s eyes widened in shock. “Why is it you?”
Shen Lai smiled faintly. “Sorry, Actress Tong.”
No one noticed that someone had disappeared from the group. It wasn’t until they finally made it through the foggy thorny area that they realized something was wrong.
Tong Miaoling was gone.
Dai Jingxuan’s brow furrowed. Tong Miaoling had been walking right beside him earlier, so he hadn’t paid much attention.
How had she vanished in such a short time?
[Seriously, the Best Actor is her husband, and he didn’t even notice his wife was missing the whole time?]
[If it were me, I wouldn’t let my girlfriend disappear for even a second in front of me.]
[Even Yan Rui and Wu Qi held hands the whole way, why are these two walking separately?]
[And that task earlier today, didn’t you think the Best Actor and Actress acted strangely too?]
Just then, a loudspeaker announcement echoed overhead: “Since Tong Miaoling has been devoured by the Big Bad Wolf, the Dai Tong team is eliminated!”
Wu Qi looked surprised. “How exactly was Sister Tong eaten?”
No one could answer.
The fog had been too thick, no one had seen how the Big Bad Wolf had taken Tong Miaoling away.
The only thing they knew was that the Big Bad Wolf was now hiding among them.
Director Miao appeared at the right moment and announced, “Now, everyone has ten minutes to identify the Big Bad Wolf. Any method is allowed. If you fail to find them within the time limit, we’ll proceed to the next challenge.”
The three pairs of guests sat in a circle on the grass, eyeing each other awkwardly.
“Since Director Miao said we can ask anything, I’ll go first,” Bai Hansui spoke up. “Did anyone leave the group earlier?”
At her words, everyone exchanged uneasy glances.
Yan Rui said calmly, “No, I was with Wu Qi the whole time.”
Shen Lai also chimed in, “I was with Pei Jingyan the entire time too. We were even holding hands.”
Hearing this, Pei Jingyan turned his head to glance at her.
[Hahahaha Boss Pei’s shocked face: Holding hands with me? Since when?]
[Boss Pei: I didn’t, don’t make things up.]
[Boss Pei’s expression is like, “I didn’t even touch my wife, and now it sounds like I took some huge advantage.”]
In a spot where no one could see, Shen Lai secretly winked at Pei Jingyan and mouthed, “Play along.”
Pei Jingyan let out a cold laugh and leaned in close to her ear, “Using me?”
His warm breath brushed against her ear, making Shen Lai instinctively lean back. She lowered her voice and said, “I’m just trying to avoid suspicion. You know Bai Hansui and Huo Chilin have it out for me. If I didn’t say this, what if she riles up the other guests to doubt me?”
Pei Jingyan smirked without warmth. “So you’re making me your shield?”
“How can you say that?” Shen Lai coughed twice. “I’m doing this for your sake too. You vouch for me, and I’ll vouch for you.”
Pei Jingyan snorted. “Speaking of which, I didn’t see you earlier. Where did you run off to?”
Shen Lai’s heart skipped a beat. Meeting Pei Jingyan’s piercing gaze, her palms grew slightly sweaty, but she feigned composure. “Who said I ran off? I was right behind you the whole time. You just didn’t notice.”
Pei Jingyan raised an eyebrow. “Oh? I wasn’t aware of that.”
Shen Lai’s eyes flickered slightly. “The place was full of fog. Of course you couldn’t see anything.”
At that moment, Bai Hansui spoke up. “That’s strange. I was with Chilin the whole time too. Does that mean none of us is the Big Bad Wolf?”
Huo Chilin said leisurely, “That just means someone among us is lying.”
Hearing this, the guests exchanged glances, but no one spoke.
In the end, they still couldn’t identify the Big Bad Wolf.
With the heavy fog and everyone having alibis, there were no obvious suspects, and they couldn’t just vote randomly, so they had to let it go.
The ten-minute time limit was up, and since no one had found the Big Bad Wolf, they moved on to the next challenge.
Treasure Hunt Under the Blood Moon.
The task this time was to search for scattered “breadcrumbs” within a 30-minute time limit. Any guest who found a hunter’s silver bullet could forcibly check one person’s identity.
After announcing the rules, Director Miao added, “Note: The breadcrumbs contain clues about the Big Bad Wolf’s identity. If you find them, you might just uncover the wolf among you.”
Shen Lai’s heart pounded heavily upon hearing this.
Identity clues?
If someone else found them, her role as the Big Bad Wolf would be exposed.
Soon, the group split up to search for the hidden breadcrumbs.
Pei Jingyan, hands in his pockets, watched as Shen Lai darted around like a curious groundhog. He followed leisurely behind her and drawled, “Why are you trying so hard?”
Shen Lai couldn’t exactly say she was trying to destroy the breadcrumbs with the Big Bad Wolf’s clues, so she replied somewhat awkwardly, “Of course to find the Big Bad Wolf in our team. Unlike you, just lounging around.”
Pei Jingyan smirked. “Anyone would think you’re the Big Bad Wolf, acting so nervous.”
Shen Lai stiffened, then turned her head with a huff. “You’re the one who’s the wolf in grandma’s clothing. Could it be that you’re actually the mole?”
Pei Jingyan’s eyes crinkled at the corners as he slowly leaned down, his breath almost brushing against her back. His voice was laced with amusement. “If I were the wolf, you’d be the first one I’d gobble up.”
