- Chapter 11 - Excitement
Cheng Xiaoming’s touch was light, but that slight weight on Wen Huiyun’s shoulder felt infinitely magnified, becoming unbearably heavy.
So heavy that it violated the alpha dignity Wen Huiyun had inherited from the original host.
In this transmigrated world, alphas deliberately maintained distance from one another anything closer was seen as overstepping or provocation.
If one alpha noticed another was unwell, they wouldn’t pay it much mind, offering at most a perfunctory inquiry. After all, alphas were inherently regarded as strong.
But Cheng Xiaoming’s gesture draping a coat over Wen Huiyun like she was some delicate omega was a silent mockery, as if taunting: How dare a weakling like you compete with me for Ye Zhuoyan?
“……”
The more Wen Huiyun dwelled on it, the angrier she grew. Her throat burned dry, and a flush of humiliation crept up her cheeks.
Cheng Xiaoming noticed, her expression shifting subtly.
Her gaze softened as she asked gently, “Did you fall into the pond? How careless of you.”
Wen Huiyun met her eyes, her expression complicated.
Under normal circumstances, she might have believed Cheng Xiaoming was genuinely concerned. But now, it only felt like deliberate provocation.
Realizing her words might have wounded Wen Huiyun’s pride, Cheng Xiaoming quickly amended, “Accidents happen, but you should take care of your health.”
She paused, then added, “Your pheromones are completely gone. Hypothermia can damage your glands. You should get a checkup when you return.”
The borrowed pheromones Wen Huiyun had injected were nearly depleted, and the pond water had accelerated their dissipation.
In simple terms, without her pheromone scent, Wen Huiyun was like a naked person running amok in the ABO world.
Worse, without the masking effect of the pheromones, her natural body fragrance had emerged.
Back in her original world, her close friends had often remarked on the faint, sweet milkiness of her scent, gentle and soothing.
But such a fragrance was hardly fitting for an alpha.
Wen Huiyun kept several meters between them, her face dark.
She removed the coat and handed it back firmly. “Thank you for your concern, but I don’t need it. I jumped into the lotus pond willingly, to help Zhuoyan rescue a drowning kitten not because I was careless.”
Cheng Xiaoming hesitated, words caught in her throat.
Wen Huiyun lifted her chin, a haughty curve tugging at her lips. “I know what you’re implying. When fighting for love, any method is fair game. But let me make this clear, I’m serious too. Deadly serious.”
And she was deadly serious because if she failed to win Ye Zhuoyan back, she would lose the second chance at life she’d barely managed to grasp.
Cheng Xiaoming’s brows furrowed slightly, her voice softening. “Huiyun, you’ve misunderstood me.”
“Whether there’s a misunderstanding between us doesn’t matter.”
The surroundings fell silent. A breeze scattered the clouds, and bright sunlight poured over Wen Huiyun.
“I love Ye Zhuoyan. That makes us natural enemies.”
As if on cue, Xiao La suddenly appeared, whispering excitedly in Wen Huiyun’s ear: 「Congratulations! You’ve gained +2 favorability points from the female lead! Total points: 5. Exchangeable for one dose of the original host’s pheromones.」
See? Even fate was on her side. The scales of Ye Zhuoyan’s affection were tipping in her direction.
A surge of confidence filled Wen Huiyun.
Her eyes gleamed with sudden intensity, her bearing radiating newfound assurance. “Enemies shouldn’t stand too close.”
The guests gathered at the entrance of Danqing Park.
Two were still missing.
After waiting for a while, Wen Huiyun and Cheng Xiaoming arrived late.
Wen Huiyun walked ahead, with Cheng Xiaoming trailing about ten meters behind her.
The other guests could sense from the changes in their alpha pheromones that the atmosphere between them was extremely strange, almost eerie.
It was certain that both were in a negative mood, but it wasn’t anger or hatred, it was indescribable, just very odd.
The director and guests took it in stride after all, alphas are naturally competitive and prone to clashes, so a little friction during the competition was normal.
The AI broadcast announced the official end of the second event and revealed the statistics of each guest’s exchanged props:
“First place, Jiang Yining, exchanged eight prop cards, including: Love Vault, Designer Support, and Designated Wish.”
“Third place, Ye Zhuoyan, exchanged six prop cards, including: Expert Hotline, Designer Support, and Summon Another Helper.”
“Sixth place, Wen Huiyun, exchanged three prop cards, including: Love Vault, Summon Another Helper, and Designated Wish.”
Falling from first place in the first event to last place in the second was quite a drop.
The audience expressed sympathy for Wen Huiyun:
[“Hand Empress, don’t cry, stand tall! You’ll be a top-tier alpha again in the next match!”]
[“The Empress was helping Ye Zhuoyan rescue the kitten, that’s why she lost so much time TuT”]
[“It’s okay, sisters! Even though Wen Huiyun only has three cards, they’re the most useful ones! Empress, go for it!”]
Some gossipy comments popped up:
[“Am I the only one curious about what happened between Hand Empress and Big Alpha Cheng?”] [“+1, let’s build this thread”]
[“Did they fight over Ye Zhuoyan?”] [“I bet it’s a tragic alpha-alpha love story hitting a major setback.”]
[“Ahhhhh, what did they do? Why wasn’t something so exciting filmed? Dock the cameraman’s chicken legs!”]
While the audience buzzed with discussion, Wen Huiyun didn’t care about her fall from champion to last place.
You know what?
She helped Ye Zhuoyan save a cat.
You know what?
Ye Zhuoyan personally wiped her face and even gave her coat to Wen Huiyun.
You know what?
Ye Zhuoyan’s skin was so fair, her legs so long, her pheromones so sweet…
“Wen Huiyun. Wen Huiyun? Wen Huiyun!”
Wen Huiyun had accidentally fallen asleep on the bus and jolted awake when someone called her name.
“Mmm!”
The soft scent of vanilla cotton candy lingered gently around her.
Unable to resist, Wen Huiyun twitched her nose and took a few extra sniffs.
Ye Zhuoyan had somehow taken the seat beside her. She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, her eyelids lowered like a bowing white swan.
Wen Huiyun kept her gaze subdued, wanting to look at Ye Zhuoyan but afraid of being too obvious. Instead, she lowered her line of sight, using an indirect approach to admire her.
“Zhuoyan…”
“You…”
Wen Huiyun relaxed her brows and smiled softly. “I wanted to ask what you were going to say.”
Ye Zhuoyan lifted her sparkling eyes, her lashes fluttering lightly.
“Wen Huiyun, you… if you’re free tonight, come to my room.”
Wen Huiyun was so stunned she doubted her ears, frozen in place.
Seeing her looking like a silly goose with a tiny tuft of hair sticking up, quite comical, Ye Zhuoyan’s lips curved almost imperceptibly.
Ye Zhuoyan stood up, her tone carrying a playful lilt Wen Huiyun had never heard before: “If you didn’t hear it, then it doesn’t count.”
“!”
Wen Huiyun immediately grasped Ye Zhuoyan’s soft hand.
“I heard it! It counts.”
Ye Zhuoyan trembled slightly, instinctively wanting to shake off Wen Huiyun, but restrained herself under the camera’s gaze, frowning at their joined hands.
Noticing Ye Zhuoyan’s resistance, Wen Huiyun hastily let go, whispering: “Sorry, my mistake.”
The camera thoughtfully captured their little interaction, striking a chord with viewers as heart emojis flooded the screen.
At the back row, Cheng Xiaoming leaned against the window, staring ahead with unfocused eyes.
Her suit jacket draped over her arm, the alpha’s keen senses occasionally catching whiffs of rich milk fragrance.
Silence.
Up front, laughter continued as Mi Tao and Jiang Yining sat together, chatting animatedly with Liang Yuan across the aisle.
The bus entered a tunnel.
Darkness brought momentary blindness.
In the blackness, Jiang Yining turned her head back, her eyes reflecting the tall figure at the rear.
Her lips twisted into a helpless smile, etched with what seemed like years of accumulated scars.
As the tunnel lights flickered on, white illumination revealed everyone.
Jiang Yining burst into unrestrained laughter, collapsing onto Mi Tao as if she’d never glanced toward that quiet back row.
The camera swept across each face.
Capturing their expressions.
Yet unable to penetrate the stories hidden beneath.
During dinner, Mi Tao exclaimed: “Huiyun-jie, you must be really happy to cook so many delicious dishes?”
The long table overflowed with colorful, aromatic dishes. Wen Huiyun emerged from the kitchen carrying braised Dongpo pork knuckle, smiling: “Everyone worked hard today, so I made some good dishes to replenish.”
Liang Yuan clapped happily at the glistening pork: “Premium dish! Amazing.”
Jiang Yining gave double thumbs-up: “Xiao Wen you’re incredible! Here’s a flying kiss from your jiejie, mua~”
Wen Huiyun raised the plate as a shield before placing stir-fried lotus pond moonlight vegetables before Ye Zhuoyan.
As a dancer, Ye Zhuoyan maintained a light diet for her figure, a fact Wen Huiyun remembered well.
Ye Zhuoyan picked up a snow pea with her chopsticks, chewing slowly.
Wen Huiyun watched expectantly: “How is it?”
Their eyes met as Ye Zhuoyan gave a slight nod.
Wen Huiyun beamed.
At precisely eight o’clock.
While Liang Yuan, Mi Tao and Jiang Yining watched TV in the main lounge, and Cheng Xiaoming had retired early.
Wen Huiyun took special care to shower and change into fresh linen loungewear before seeking Ye Zhuoyan.
Crossing toward the omega quarters, her heartbeat accelerated, thump, thump.
The door stood slightly ajar, light spilling through the gap.
Inside, Ye Zhuoyan sat on the bed fiddling with a transparent case.
She wore a fitted long dress with a light cardigan over her shoulders.
The delicate sleeves slid down her jade-white arms as she moved, fingers like peeled spring onions.
The dress hugged her waist, accentuating curves from hips to thighs, one slender calf resting diagonally.
Peering through the crack, Wen Huiyun pressed lightly against the door, momentarily forgetting to breathe.
Distracted and unable to control her strength, Wen Huiyun stumbled through the door, landing on her knees with a thud.
“……”
Tears welled up in Wen Huiyun’s heart, why did she always make a fool of herself in front of Ye Zhuoyan?
Her eyes immediately met Ye Zhuoyan’s astonished gaze.
“I’m sorry!” Wen Huiyun blurted out in panic.
Then a soft, pale hand grasped hers, sending her heart into wild palpitations.
