Everyone Loves the Villainous Scumbag [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 16
Upstairs, Luo Jianghe and Yu Wuyang had just reconciled when a knock sounded at the door. Being closest to it, Luo Jianghe opened the door.
“Who is it?” Having recently transmigrated, he was still unfamiliar with the footsteps of everyone in the household.
Upon opening the door, he saw Fu Chen, who stood much taller than him, standing outside. Just as Luo Jianghe was about to ask what he wanted, Fu Chen raised his hand and waved a deck of playing cards at him.
“I saw these downstairs just now. Want to play together?”
Luo Jianghe was momentarily silent. He figured Fu Chen probably wanted to help him escape the awkwardness of being alone with Yu Wuyang; besides, games were indeed a good way to build rapport.
“Sure. There are exactly three of us. Let’s play.”
Downstairs in the Luo family living room, after Luo Xi went down, she first poured herself a glass of orange juice in the kitchen. After chatting with her mother for a while, she keenly noticed that her mother’s attention remained fixed on Father Luo in the living room.
Over the past two days, she had noticed that her father spent even less time with them. Usually, when she and her mother were around, her father was quite talkative. But now, even when the whole family was together, he always had a furrowed brow, looking as if something was weighing heavily on his mind.
Luo Xi was the “little princess” of the family, but that did not mean she was ignorant of the world. The children raised by the Luo family were innocent, but they were certainly not merely innocent.
Sensing her mother’s unease, Luo Xi walked over to the sofa and sat down to chat with her father. She understood that her mother was worried about two things: first, that her father might be seeing someone else, and second, whether there was a problem with the family business. Since her mother held all the family’s physical examination reports, health issues were not a concern.
As a daughter, it was not appropriate for Luo Xi to ask her father directly, nor was it easy to drop hints. Therefore, she could only chat with him more, hoping to uncover some clues.
Father Luo, who usually gained energy from chatting with his family, rarely showed signs of exhaustion while talking to his daughter. During their conversation, Luo Xi was called back to the kitchen by Mother Luo to help out.
Another half hour passed before Mother Luo finished cooking and set the table. Luo Xi called Luo Jianghe and the others down, who had been playing cards for quite a while.
While Luo Xi and Luo Jianghe were in the kitchen preparing the bowls and chopsticks, Mother Luo walked over to Father Luo and patted her husband’s shoulder. “Let’s eat. Whatever is on your mind, wait until after the New Year to think about it. Our family being together is more important than anything else.”
These words were deeply meaningful, and Father Luo naturally understood them. Knowing he could no longer hide the fact that he was troubled from his wife, he had no choice but to temporarily set aside his worries. He stood up and followed her to the kitchen.
Looking at his son, daughter, and wife, Father Luo’s furrowed brow relaxed slightly.
The atmosphere at home was off, but since Luo Jianghe had only just begun interacting with these NPCs, who had even fewer lines than he did, it was not that he was thick-skinned, but rather that it was genuinely hard to notice the subtle shifts in the family’s mood unless he was paying close attention.
To him, Father Luo was naturally difficult to get along with, his mother remained gentle, and his sister was as talkative as ever. Furthermore, he had his own secrets to worry about, so he did not pay much attention to the outside world. He only hoped that after Fu Chen left tomorrow, Yu Wuyang would move into the guest room.
After the family and the two guests finished dinner, Luo Jianghe told Luo Xi to go shower quickly. With three of them sharing one bathroom, they needed a schedule for their nightly routines. Since his sister was a girl, her time needed to be clearly separated from the boys. Even with a lock on the door, it would be awkward for a guy and a girl to run into each other right after stepping out of the bathroom.
As for the guys, it was first come, first served. Whoever wanted to wash up first could go; there was no need for a strict order.
Once Luo Xi went to wash up, Luo Jianghe stayed in the room with Yu Wuyang. After playing outside all day, he felt he should study for a bit at night, so he pulled out an English book and pretended to review.
Seeing him studying seriously, Yu Wuyang also took out his phone to expand his vocabulary using an app. They had not been memorizing for ten minutes before Fu Chen knocked on the door again with the cards.
“We played for almost an hour earlier. You’re not tired of it yet?” Luo Jianghe was somewhat speechless. He did not find Fight the Landlord that interesting, especially not with these two.
“Let’s play for a bit. The winner gets to shower first.” Fu Chen looked at Luo Jianghe, then glanced at Yu Wuyang, who was currently sitting on Luo Jianghe’s bed.
Yu Wuyang had taken off his coat and was sitting there quietly looking at his phone. Seemingly sensing Fu Chen’s gaze, his serene expression shifted slightly. He looked up and, from an angle hidden from Luo Jianghe’s sight, stared coldly at Fu Chen.
“There is no need for that. I do not mind showering last,” Luo Jianghe replied to Fu Chen, naturally unaware of Yu Wuyang’s current expression.
“I want to play. Play with me. I am leaving tomorrow, and it is boring staying in my room alone,” Fu Chen said as he gently pushed past Luo Jianghe and entered the room.
In reality, Fu Chen did not care about the game; he just was not comfortable leaving Luo Jianghe alone under Yu Wuyang’s nose. Yu Wuyang was “black-hearted” underneath his white exterior, a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
The three of them sat together on Luo Jianghe’s bed. Since they were wearing casual clothes at home, they did not worry about getting the bed dirty. Fu Chen was the one who suggested playing, so he was the dealer.
Watching Fu Chen deal the cards fluently, Luo Jianghe could not help but complain inwardly. Three young men in their late teens and early twenties, and when they get together, the only thing they can do to kill time is play cards? They could at least play a mobile game.
However, he figured a “good student” like Fu Chen probably disdained mobile games. Luo Jianghe guessed that Fu Chen did not have any game apps and that downloading them would take too much time, which is why he settled for cards.
If there are no games to play, we could just not play. Is he doing this to help ease my awkwardness with Yu Wuyang?
If that were the case, he would be moved to tears by Fu Chen’s kindness. Thinking this, Luo Jianghe could not help but stare at Fu Chen for a while.
Yu Wuyang was focused on Luo Jianghe. Fearing he might arouse suspicion, he only watched him surreptitiously. Seeing Luo Jianghe staring at Fu Chen for so long, the “vinegar jar” in Yu Wuyang’s heart completely overturned.
Just as Fu Chen played a “three-of-a-kind with a solo,” Yu Wuyang raised his voice slightly: “Bomb!”
He threw down four 3s.
Startled by the “bomb,” Luo Jianghe snapped out of his daze and looked at Yu Wuyang. The game had just started, and he was already using a bomb? Even if he had many bombs, that was not how you used them. In a three-player game of Fight the Landlord, the two “peasants” had to cooperate.
“Wuyang, stay steady. Don’t throw bombs randomly,” Luo Jianghe whispered a reminder.
Hearing this, Yu Wuyang kept his eyes on his cards but responded immediately. “Okay.”
After that, Yu Wuyang stopped acting recklessly. He and Luo Jianghe coordinated perfectly; they played against the “landlord” three times and won every single round.
By then, Luo Xi had finished her shower. Changed into her loungewear, she came to Luo Jianghe’s room to tell the three of them to get ready to wash up. Seeing that Yu Wuyang and Fu Chen made no move to leave, Luo Jianghe gathered his clothes to go shower himself.
Seeing him leave, Luo Xi sat down to take his place and play with Yu Wuyang and Fu Chen for a bit. Their attitude toward Luo Xi was quite normal, even slightly indulgent. Since they were at the Luo home, Luo Jianghe was not worried about Luo Xi playing cards with these two guys and agreed to let her stay.
He grabbed his clothes and headed to the bathroom. Just as Luo Xi sat down, she felt thirsty again and said she was going downstairs to get drinks, asking if Yu Wuyang and the others wanted any.
Luo Jianghe ignored their conversation and went into the bathroom. As soon as Luo Jianghe and Luo Xi left, the atmosphere between Yu Wuyang and Fu Chen instantly dropped to freezing point.
Fu Chen was the first to speak.
“The fact that you kissed him today was discovered. To avoid suspicion, stay away from Luo Jianghe from now on.”
A contemptuous smile broke across Yu Wuyang’s beautiful face. “In what capacity and with what right are you warning me? Are you in a relationship with Luo Jianghe? Or are you some relative of his? You are just like me, merely his pursuer. You want me to step away so you can swoop in? You have certainly worked it all out.”
Normally, Yu Wuyang might have fallen silent or looked down in a daze at Fu Chen’s words. But today, he had seen Fu Chen gripping Luo Jianghe’s chin and holding him by the waist. He could not feel inferior in front of someone who shared the same romantic goal, because if his own actions were “vile,” Fu Chen was not much cleaner.
“The way you look at Luo Jianghe is not innocent either, is it?”
Fu Chen’s face darkened several shades. “At least I will not force someone into something difficult like you did. Doing it is one thing, but letting yourself be caught is even more loathsome.”
Yu Wuyang bit his lower lip. He felt some guilt for his actions today, but that did not mean he would give up on Luo Jianghe because of it. He simply could not let go.
“That is just because you do not love him deeply enough yet. You already know how wonderful Jianghe is. Sooner or later, you too will be willing to fly into the flame, unable to help yourself. The only difference between us is the degree!”
As they spoke, the sound of Luo Xi’s footsteps returning with the drinks echoed from outside the door.
Seconds before Luo Xi entered the room, Fu Chen lowered his voice and said, “Loving Luo Jianghe is your own business, but have you ever asked if he is willing? Yu Wuyang, sooner or later, you will pay the price for this love of yours.”
Just as Fu Chen finished speaking, Luo Xi pushed the door open. She sensed a slight tension between her brother’s two classmates but could not quite put her finger on what it was. Holding the drinks and cups, she looked at them with confusion.
By the time she sat down, the atmosphere between the two had smoothed over. She relaxed, thinking she had just been overthinking things.
The three sat down, taking turns being the landlord, winning and losing as the night went on.
