Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 42
Yu Qingxue looked at her with a smile in her eyes and said, “You lost.”
Ning Xi replied helplessly, “That’s only because President Yu has never smiled at me before. I didn’t even know you had dimples. I was just too surprised and froze for a moment.”
Jiang Yuanxin had planned to ask why Ning Xi suddenly got stuck earlier, but as she walked over, she happened to hear what Ning Xi said. She fell silent. No need to ask anymore. Clearly, she was just mesmerized by a pretty face.
Yu Qingxue blinked innocently. “There’s never been anything funny around me. How could I possibly smile?”
She would never admit that it was because she once heard Ning Xi say that women with dimples were sweet, so she had deliberately never smiled at her.
All that patience had been saved for this moment.
So far, the result had gone far beyond her expectations. She had even won the bet along the way.
Feeling pleased, Yu Qingxue lifted the corners of her lips. Her eyes sparkled, and a honeyed dimple bloomed on her snowy cheek as she asked, “When are you taking me to the hot springs?”
Ning Xi couldn’t take her eyes off that dimple. “Tomorrow. We finish filming at five in the afternoon. Let’s go to the hot spring hotel by seven, come back by nine, and sleep at nine.”
During the second take, Ning Xi was mentally prepared. Even though Yu Qingxue’s dimples hit her hard again, she kept her expression steady and passed the scene without a hitch.
Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue worked all the way until three in the morning before wrapping up for the day. They would have less than three hours to sleep before heading back to set.
Yu Qingxue usually went to bed around ten. After pulling an all-nighter filming, the moment Jiang Yuanxin called “Cut,” she almost fell asleep on the spot with her eyes closed.
Ning Xi supported the drowsy Yu Qingxue and coaxed her softly. “President Yu, let’s take off your makeup and get changed first. You can sleep in the van afterward, alright?”
Yu Qingxue forced her eyes open and yawned. Her eyes looked misty, as if freshly washed by rain. Her eyelashes were damp with tears, appearing even darker and fuller than usual.
“Okay,” Yu Qingxue murmured, her voice full of sleepiness.
Since the actors and staff were still around, Ning Xi couldn’t carry Yu Qingxue to the dressing room. But she was worried that Qingxue might collapse if she fell asleep standing, so she held her hand instead. On the way there, whenever Yu Qingxue’s eyes closed, Ning Xi would squeeze her hand or give it a little shake. Thanks to that, Yu Qingxue stayed barely awake the whole way.
Once they entered the dressing room, Yu Qingxue caught sight of herself in the mirror and became a bit more alert.
Yawning nonstop, she changed into her clothes. She lazily wiped her face a few times with a makeup remover pad and called it done.
Ning Xi removed her own makeup first, then changed clothes. When she came out, she saw Yu Qingxue sitting at the vanity, slowly wiping her face with the same remover pad over and over again on the same spot.
Ning Xi walked over. As she approached, Yu Qingxue heard her and opened her eyes, asking in a sleepy voice, “Can we go now?”
Seeing the foggy tiredness in her eyes, Ning Xi felt a pang of tenderness. She gently took the makeup remover pad from her hand and said, “Just sleep. There’s hardly anyone around. I’ll carry you to the van in a bit.”
Hearing that, Yu Qingxue closed her eyes and soon fell into a deep sleep.
Ning Xi carefully wiped off the remaining makeup with a new cotton pad. Then she took a clean towel, dampened it, and gently wiped Qingxue’s face again. Only then did she lift her into her arms and head toward the van.
As they left the dressing room, Ning Xi was glad to find no one nearby. She hurried toward the van with quick steps.
Up ahead, she noticed a familiar figure. “Wang You, is that you?” she called.
Even though Ning Xi hadn’t spoken loudly, the quiet night made her voice carry clearly.
Wang You turned around and, upon seeing Ning Xi holding Yu Qingxue, paused for a moment. She slowly took a few steps closer. “Ning Xi, do you need something?” she asked, her eyes shifting away and avoiding Ning Xi’s gaze.
Ning Xi assumed she was avoiding looking at Yu Qingxue. After thinking for a moment, she said, “Why don’t you ride back with us in the van?”
Wang You stiffened and shook her head quickly. “No, that’s alright. I’ll ride the bus back with Jiang Yuanxin.”
Ning Xi kept her voice warm and calm. “This isn’t just a simple invitation. As you can see, President Yu has already fallen asleep. The two of us being alone in the van might cause misunderstandings. Having you there would help clear that up and stop any gossip.”
And, more importantly, it would give these two people, who clearly cared for each other but couldn’t be together, a rare chance to spend time together.
Ning Xi was starting to feel impressed by her own cleverness.
Wang You opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say. Her eyes stayed on Yu Qingxue as she hesitated.
“You’re a good friend to President Yu. She’ll sleep more peacefully with you beside her,” Ning Xi added, noticing the change in Wang You’s expression and gently persuading her again.
Wang You lowered her head and hesitated. “Then… I want to sit next to Qingxue.”
“No problem,” Ning Xi thought to herself. Even if you hadn’t asked, I would’ve arranged that anyway.
When they arrived at the van, Ning Xi let Wang You board first. After she picked a seat, Ning Xi gently placed the sleeping Yu Qingxue beside her.
Ning Xi sat across from them.
As the van started moving, Yu Qingxue’s brows furrowed. Wang You, knowing she always got cranky when waking up, quickly covered her ears with her hands.
Once the engine noise was blocked out, Yu Qingxue’s expression relaxed.
After the van settled into a smooth ride, Wang You let go. Yu Qingxue continued sleeping deeply, no longer frowning.
Watching her actions, Ning Xi became even more convinced that the two of them were meant for each other. Wang You clearly knew her so well.
Halfway through the drive, a car suddenly sped up from the opposite lane, nearly colliding with them. The driver swerved sharply, barely dodging the vehicle.
The van jolted violently. Yu Qingxue, who had been fast asleep, was startled awake. She opened her eyes, glanced around with displeasure, and her gaze finally settled on Wang You, who was now sitting beside her.
“Why are you here?” Yu Qingxue frowned and asked.
Wang You immediately pushed the blame onto Ning Xi. “It was Ning Xi who insisted I get in the van. I said no, but she kept persuading me. I had no choice.”
Yu Qingxue turned her head sharply, her piercing gaze landing on Ning Xi. “Is that true?”
Ning Xi hesitated for a moment. “…It is.”
She had clearly done something good, yet under Yu Qingxue’s gaze, she suddenly felt guilty for no reason.
In Yu Qingxue’s mind, dozens of reasons for Ning Xi inviting Wang You flashed by in an instant. In the end, only one remained—Ning Xi must be interested in Wang You.
Yu Qingxue’s mood plummeted. For the rest of the ride, she sat in silence, saying nothing, her expression heavy as she stared blankly at some unknown point in space.
Wang You stayed quiet like a mouse. Ning Xi had no idea how to break the awkward silence.
It wasn’t until the van pulled up to the hotel and the door opened that the thick air finally started to ease.
The three of them stepped off the van. Yu Qingxue stood in front of the vehicle, showing no intention of leaving. Ning Xi looked toward Wang You, hoping she might help since she knew Yu Qingxue better. But just as she gave Wang You a subtle glance, Yu Qingxue’s eyes immediately swept toward her.
“I’m going to bed. See you on set tomorrow!” Wang You blurted out at twice her normal speaking speed, then turned and ran into the hotel. Her figure disappeared quickly near the elevators.
Outside the hotel, the neon lights flickered in the quiet early morning. Ning Xi hesitated for a moment before speaking.
“Why don’t we talk about it inside the room?”
She had a feeling she had done something wrong, but wasn’t sure exactly what.
“Alright.” Yu Qingxue replied coldly and walked into the hotel ahead of her.
Once they were back in the room, Ning Xi shut the door. As she turned around, she was met with Yu Qingxue’s serious expression.
“President Yu, is there something you want to say to me?” Ning Xi now realized that inviting Wang You to ride back with them might not have been the best idea. But she still wasn’t sure if that was why Yu Qingxue seemed upset.
Yu Qingxue got straight to the point. “Do you like Wang You?”
Ning Xi hadn’t expected that to be the first question. She froze for a moment before answering, “No. I don’t. Not at all.”
“Then why did you invite her to ride back with us? There are so many people in the crew, but you didn’t invite anyone else. Why did you invite Wang You, an Omega?” The more Yu Qingxue spoke, the more the jealousy in her heart bubbled over.
Ning Xi suddenly understood so, Yu Qingxue was jealous.
After all, in this world, Alpha and Omega pairs produced the strongest offspring. Yu Qingxue and Wang You were both Omegas. Their relationship had to stay hidden and unspoken.
Yu Qingxue was afraid Wang You would be taken away from her. Her jealousy was completely understandable.
Thinking back to how Yu Qingxue had sulked in the van earlier, Ning Xi actually found her kind of adorable.
