Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 41
“Why wouldn’t I dare to make a bet?” Yu Qingxue said leisurely.
“You can decide the rules, but I’ll decide the stakes.”
“No problem,” Ning Xi replied without hesitation.
Knowing Yu Qingxue’s personality, Ning Xi was sure the stakes wouldn’t be anything she couldn’t handle. She wasn’t nervous at all.
Besides, she was the one setting the rules — and with that, the outcome was still anyone’s game.
“Have you thought of the terms?” Yu Qingxue asked.
“Of course,” Ning Xi said. “To keep it fair, let’s make it an acting challenge. Whoever messes up first tonight — whoever NGs first — loses. Deal?”
Just thinking about competing with Yu Qingxue in acting made Ning Xi’s blood race. It had been a long time since she felt this excited.
Yu Qingxue looked much calmer by comparison. Propping her chin with her hand, her soft fingertips brushed across her lips as she met Ning Xi’s blazing dark eyes.
Her voice was gentle and light. “Sounds good. I’ve already thought of the stakes too.”
“What is it?” Ning Xi asked.
Yu Qingxue lowered her thick lashes slightly. A shimmer flickered in her eyes.
“Director Jiang said there’s a newly opened hot spring resort near the Film and Television City. The loser has to treat the winner to a hot spring visit.”
She said it casually, as if it was an offhand suggestion.
Hot springs didn’t sound expensive. Ning Xi assumed Yu Qingxue had considered her wallet and intentionally chosen something affordable.
Ning Xi smiled.
“Sounds good. Don’t go easy on me later, President Yu. I’m really looking forward to that hot spring.”
Yu Qingxue glanced up with a meaningful look.
“So am I.”
Once makeup and costumes were done, the two arrived on set. Green screens had been fully arranged all around the studio.
The scene was supposed to take place in the Qiu Valley on Dianqiu Mountain. Since there were only small hills around Beihai City and filming in real mountain gorges posed safety and logistical risks, Director Jiang decided to use green screen and rely on post-production for the background.
Jiang Yuanxin explained the choreography to them.
“Ning Xi will be on wires, rolling down from the mountaintop and landing right in front of Qingxue. You both need to time your positions carefully. Ning Xi, you can’t crash into her or land too far away.”
“Let’s try it once first,” Ning Xi offered.
She was confident, but since there was a bet on the line, she preferred to play it safe.
“Alright, do a run-through,” Jiang said.
He told the crew to clear the area and glanced around, not seeing Wang You.
“Where’s Wang You? Get over here and stand next to Qingxue!”
Wang You slowly raised her hand behind the crew.
“I’m here.”
“Clear the way! Let her through!” Jiang shouted into his megaphone, his voice booming.
Wang You covered her ears and walked over to Yu Qingxue.
“He’s so loud,” she muttered.
Yu Qingxue gently adjusted Wang You’s slightly crooked wig.
“Once we finish filming Ask the Devil, I’ll get revenge for you,” she said casually — and maybe take the chance to avenge herself for Jiang’s early-morning singing outside her door too.
Meanwhile, Ning Xi was strapped into the wire rig on the second floor. Looking down, she saw Yu Qingxue talking gently with Wang You, her gaze soft. One dressed in flowing white, the other in a green robe — they looked perfectly harmonious together.
Ning Xi frowned slightly. She felt like she was starting to understand something.
Could it be that the reason Yu Qingxue had never dated an Alpha… was because she liked Wang You?
The way she looked at Wang You, not just her tone but even her expression, was full of warmth.
With Ning Xi, Yu Qingxue always wore a cold face. Since the day they met, Ning Xi couldn’t recall seeing her smile even once.
Ning Xi fell silent.
If Yu Qingxue already liked someone, then friendship between them seemed like the most likely outcome — yet somehow, that thought didn’t make her feel happy.
Same-sex Omega relationships were forbidden under Huaguo law. If Yu Qingxue really liked Wang You, wouldn’t she be forced to keep those feelings buried forever?
In her mind, Ning Xi suddenly envisioned a tragic love story. Two childhood Omegas, deeply attached to each other but destined never to be together due to their identities.
Her heart ached just thinking about it.
“Ning Xi! We’re ready to begin! Are you set? I’ll count down.”
Ning Xi snapped out of it. She saw that Wang You had taken her place behind Yu Qingxue, both of them now standing in position.
“One, two, three!”
As Yu Qingxue and Wang You walked forward, talking, Ning Xi tumbled down from above, landing perfectly on the foam mat — the distance between her and Yu Qingxue was spot-on.
Jiang Yuanxin walked over with a ruler and measured.
“Thirty centimeters. Not more, not less. Perfect. Remember how that felt. That’s how we’ll shoot the real take.”
With a successful rehearsal done, Ning Xi was hoisted back to the second floor for filming.
“Scene five, take one. Roll camera!”
“Action!”
Feng Yunyan staggered forward, her fair face scratched by autumn branches. At the cliff’s edge, her legs gave out and she tumbled down.
Dong Lingxue and Shan Lian walked from the distance. Shan Lian chattered nonstop behind Dong Lingxue.
“My lady, I think Young Master Yang was way too forward. How could he just confess to you like that? You’ve never even met him before! You can’t marry someone like that.”
“But Young Master Fang, whom we met in Tujin City — now he was different. Gentle, refined, full of grace, and treated you with such respect. So proper and considerate…”
Dong Lingxue moved with graceful steps and turned back to look at Shan Lian. Her expression was serene. If you looked closely, her eyes were empty of joy or sorrow — like the surface of a still, deep pool.
“Lian, it will be a long time before I marry anyone. Whether it’s Young Master Yang or Young Master Fang, it makes no difference to me.”
Shan Lian was about to protest again when—
“Bang!”
Someone fell from the cliff, landing right in front of Dong Lingxue. Shan Lian’s words got caught in her throat.
“My lady, watch out!” Shan Lian immediately stepped in front of Dong Lingxue protectively.
Dong Lingxue gently patted her shoulder.
“Don’t worry. She looks unconscious. Step aside. Let me take a look.”
“But my lady,” Shan Lian said cautiously, “this is a remote wilderness. A woman suddenly falling from the sky? There’s something off here.”
“Ugh…” Feng Yunyan groaned and clutched her chest, trying to sit up. She braced herself with one hand, trembling.
When she looked up and saw Dong Lingxue and Shan Lian standing in front of her, her body shook in fear. She wanted to flee, but her leg was injured, and she couldn’t stand. All she could do was crawl forward, trembling.
Shan Lian, confused, lowered her arms and turned to Dong Lingxue.
“My lady, why is she running away from us?”
From past experience, anyone who wanted to get close would usually fake fainting, not actually pass out.
Dong Lingxue frowned slightly.
“Let’s go see.”
This time, Shan Lian didn’t stop her. She obediently followed as they walked over to the disheveled woman.
“Hey, who are you? Why are you running from us?” Shan Lian called out.
Feng Yunyan’s body trembled again in fear. She bit her lip and didn’t speak, continuing to crawl away with her head down.
Shan Lian looked frustrated.
“My lady, she seems really afraid of me.”
Dong Lingxue stepped forward, knelt down gently, and placed her hand softly on Feng Yunyan’s dirt-stained robe. Her voice was calm and warm.
“Don’t be afraid. We’re not bad people. Why did you fall from up there? If you’re in trouble, you can tell us. We’re here to help.”
Feng Yunyan’s body stiffened. She turned her head, shut her eyes tightly, and pushed Dong Lingxue away with trembling hands.
“Don’t touch me…” she whispered, her voice shaking softly beside Dong Lingxue’s ear.
“Hey! I already said we’re not bad people! What are you so afraid of? Just tell us!” Shan Lian urged anxiously.
Feng Yunyan slowly opened her eyes. Her blood-streaked face looked pale and fragile. In her dark eyes, a cloud of fear lingered like a night sky completely hidden behind thick clouds.
“S-save me…” she whispered.
Dong Lingxue met Feng Yunyan’s gaze and felt her heart stir.
She had never seen eyes like these. They were deep, pure black, without a single trace of light.
“Don’t worry. We’ll help you. Let me help you up. You can rest for a while.”
Feng Yunyan didn’t resist. Dong Lingxue called Shan Lian over, and together they helped her to a large stone nearby, letting her rest with her back supported.
“I know a bit of traditional medicine,” Dong Lingxue said gently. “Your leg looks injured. Let me take a look, if that’s all right with you.”
She could see how guarded Feng Yunyan was, so she remained patient and respectful before making any move.
Feng Yunyan stayed silent for a moment, then slowly rolled up her trouser leg. Her knees were swollen and dark with bruises. Dong Lingxue gently touched a scar on her calf. Feng Yunyan flinched and bit her lip, pain flickering across her face.
Shan Lian gasped.
“What happened to your leg? That looks terrible!”
Dong Lingxue turned and gave Shan Lian a look. Shan Lian quickly stuck out her tongue.
“Sorry, my lady. I won’t say anything reckless again.”
“Cut!”
Director Jiang had learned from experience. Several cameras were set up at different angles to capture the scene fully. With no Wei Nian scenes scheduled this week, there was no need to shoot with two separate units. All assistant and deputy directors had been pulled in to help.
“That was good. Now, the next scene is Lingxue’s fight scene. Ning Xi and Wang You, even if you’re not in the scene directly, don’t just sit there. You still need to show the right emotions in case the camera captures you.”
The next scene, Scene Five, Shot Two, was also completed in one flawless take. Neither Ning Xi nor Yu Qingxue made any mistakes.
At the end of the take, Dong Lingxue and Feng Yunyan rode away on a horse they had taken from the attackers. Shan Lian held the reins and led them slowly out of the canyon.
Scene Five, Shot Three shifted to the temporary inn set.
“Scene Five, Shot Three, take one. Action!”
Feng Yunyan leaned against the headboard. Dong Lingxue turned to Shan Lian and said,
“Shan Lian, wait outside. Don’t let anyone in.”
“Yes, my lady.” Shan Lian had already checked the back of Feng Yunyan’s neck and confirmed that she was an Omega. With no danger to Dong Lingxue, she stepped out.
Dong Lingxue took out a slim white porcelain bottle from her pouch. Noticing Feng Yunyan’s gaze, she explained softly,
“This is Jinyu Ointment. It heals external wounds quickly. Small injuries heal within three days. Severe ones take up to seven.”
“I need to check your wounds. I’ll need you to take off your outer clothing.”
Feng Yunyan’s eyes filled with suspicion. Although she didn’t speak, her expression said everything.
Dong Lingxue didn’t get upset. She explained gently,
“I know you’re an Omega. I am too. If you don’t believe me, I can show you my gland.”
Feng Yunyan’s voice was dry and cautious.
“Let me see it.”
Dong Lingxue turned her back to Feng Yunyan and swept her long hair over her shoulder, exposing the left side of her neck and shoulder.
She slowly unfastened her buttons.
The candlelight flickered softly in her light-colored eyes. Her skin glowed gently under the warm light. Her features were serene, almost unreal, with an ethereal beauty.
She loosened her robe, allowing it to fall from her shoulder. She bowed her head slightly, letting Feng Yunyan clearly see the raised gland at the back of her neck.
Feng Yunyan’s eyes lingered on her exposed back. In the depths of her gaze, a faint flash of light appeared.
The gland on her neck rose and fell with each breath.
Omega glands were a vulnerability. A deep enough cut could disable an Omega completely.
But hurting Dong Lingxue served no purpose.
Feng Yunyan blinked and turned away.
“That’s enough.”
Dong Lingxue rebuttoned her robe and turned back toward her.
“I know you’re hurt and can’t move easily. I’ll help you remove your clothes, just trust me.”
She smiled gently, trying to put Feng Yunyan at ease.
Her lips curled slightly, and two soft dimples appeared on her pale cheeks. The smile was so sincere, so warm, it could melt even a guarded heart.
Ning Xi froze.
“Cut! Ning Xi, why are you spacing out? We’ll need to redo that take!”
