Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 126
While waiting at a traffic light, Yu Qingxue couldn’t help but glance sideways at Ning Xi.
Ning Xi felt her intense gaze warming her heart and had to reach out to cover Yu Qingxue’s beautiful eyes, blocking her view. “Qingxue, stop looking at me. If you keep this up, we won’t make it to tonight’s charity auction.”
Ning Xi’s palm was warm and slightly damp. Yu Qingxue blinked, her long lashes brushing against Ning Xi’s palm, leaving a faint trace of moisture.
A tingling current traveled from Ning Xi’s palm through her veins straight to her heart. She pulled her hand back as if scalded, only to see Yu Qingxue grinning triumphantly at her.
Ning Xi sighed helplessly. “Should we go straight home or to the charity auction?”
Yu Qingxue’s eyes curved into crescents, sparkling with starlight.
In a soft voice, she said, “I won’t tease you anymore. My mom is already at the auction waiting to show you off. If I take you away, she’d probably disown me in anger.”
Ning Xi chuckled, her dark eyes gleaming with amusement. “Nonsense, your mother would never do that.”
The light turned green. Catching the change in her peripheral vision, Ning Xi pointed ahead, and Yu Qingxue immediately understood, straightening up to continue driving.
They arrived a bit early. Entering the hall, they saw only about seven or eight people scattered in the seats below. An alpha turned at the sound of footsteps, momentarily stunned by Ning Xi’s beauty before averting their gaze due to same-sex repulsion, only to be rendered speechless again by Yu Qingxue’s presence beside her.
Long accustomed to such reactions, the two quickly found their assigned seats. No sooner had they sat down than someone approached to greet them, a business associate of Yu Qingxue’s, and soon they were deep in work-related conversation.
Ning Xi, noting the person was a beta, didn’t feel the slightest jealousy.
“I’ll go to the restroom,” Ning Xi said, resting a hand on Yu Qingxue’s shoulder with a slight squeeze.
Between her slender fingers peeked the smooth curve of Yu Qingxue’s shoulder, the contrast of milky and cool white skin mesmerizing. The beta couldn’t help but glance at the faint pink hue of Ning Xi’s nails.
“Alright,” Yu Qingxue replied with a smile, nodding as she covered Ning Xi’s fingertips and gave them a gentle pat.
The beta awkwardly looked away.
Ning Xi playfully pinched Yu Qingxue’s fingertips before standing to leave for the restroom.
The moment she rose, it was as if all the light in the hall converged upon her. Everyone held their breath, their gazes involuntarily drawn to her until she exited, only then releasing a collective sigh.
Ning Xi remained oblivious to the commotion behind her, not that she would have cared. Too many in the world were captivated by her looks, but her heart belonged solely to Yu Qingxue.
The restroom lay at the end of a long corridor. Ning Xi’s footsteps were light, the sound of her heels against the tiles barely audible. As she reached the door and raised her hand, just before touching the handle, a familiar voice rang out from inside.
“Huo Ziling, are you serious? Wasn’t it you who greeted Ning Xi first? What’s wrong with me saying goodbye to her? Do you have to give me the cold shoulder like this?!”
Zheng Tian’s voice was thick with unmistakable anger. Startled, Ning Xi withdrew her hand, amused yet exasperated at once again becoming the focal point of their jealousy.
Huo Ziling’s deeper voice was muffled by the door, unclear and not worth straining to hear.
Ning Xi raised her hand and knocked politely. The voices inside instantly fell silent.
After about two or three seconds, the door opened, revealing Huo Ziling’s displeased face.
Huo Ziling was already irritated from arguing with Zheng Tian when someone inconsiderately knocked on the door. Suppressing her anger, she yanked it open only to freeze upon meeting Ning Xi’s dark eyes, swallowing back the sarcasm on her tip of her tongue.
“N-Ning Xi?!”
Huo Ziling couldn’t tear her gaze away from Ning Xi’s stunningly dressed appearance.
Behind her, Zheng Tian, who had been facing away, whirled around at the sound and pushed past Huo Ziling blocking the doorway. “Ning Xi, you—”
She’d meant to ask Ning Xi to mediate their quarrel, but the words died when she saw her. Her face instantly flushed crimson, trembling finger pointing at Ning Xi. “You… you…”
Ning Xi calmly nodded at them both, her gaze briefly flickering past Zheng Tian before returning with a gentle inquiry: “What a coincidence. May I come in?”
Zheng Tian, face burning, dumbly stared at Ning Xi while stepping back. “Y-yes, of course.”
Ning Xi smiled slightly. “I hope I’m not interrupting.”
It took Zheng Tian’s overloaded brain a moment to process the implication, Ning Xi might have overheard their argument. Mortification flooded her as the color drained from her face. “Hahaha we were just… cosplaying! Couple’s roleplay, you know!”
Grabbing the still-dazed Huo Ziling, she bolted from the restroom.
Upon returning, Ning Xi noticed Huo Ziling and Zheng Tian seated behind her and Yu Qingxue. She acknowledged them with a nod before taking her seat beside Yu Qingxue.
Yu Qingxhe glanced back at the pair “absorbed” in their phones, not daring to look up. Ning Xi shook her phone at Yu Qingxue, recounting the incident via message.
Yu Qingxue: …You’re quite popular.
Ning Xi shot her an amused look before typing back: Hmm? Why do I smell vinegar? Did someone’s jealousy bottle tip over?
