Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 107
After class, Ning Xi took out her silenced phone and saw the message Yu Qingxue had sent her.
Yu Qingxue: Teacher Zhang has officially become your fan now [smirk]
Ning Xi: I was in class just now. [shy] I never expected we’d have the same teacher.
Yu Qingxue: Hurry up and call me senior sister~
Ning Xi: [voice message]
Yu Qingxue received Ning Xi’s voice attack and was left dazed for quite a while.
From that noon onward, Huo Ziling and Zheng Tian completely disappeared from Ning Xi’s surroundings. Huo Ziling didn’t even send her a single WeChat message for three consecutive days.
Though puzzled, Ning Xi didn’t particularly care about their whereabouts and soon forgot about the matter.
During the final acting practice class on Friday, Ning Xi finally got an opportunity to audition for a role in the stage play.
For the past few days, Teacher Zhang had been secretly observing Ning Xi. While evaluating other students, he would often watch for Ning Xi’s reactions if her brows relaxed, it meant the student performed well; a slight frown indicated poor acting; if she completely averted her gaze, the performance was beyond saving.
Ning Xi’s expressions almost perfectly matched Teacher Zhang’s own judgments.
Teacher Zhang secretly admired her, but his pride prevented him from initiating conversation after that earlier misunderstanding.
It wasn’t until Friday that he finally adjusted his attitude.
“Today we’re selecting the actress for the fifth female lead, Miao Xia. Preferably a female alpha, though tall betas may also try. Does anyone want to audition for Miao Xia?”
After asking, Teacher Zhang scanned the orderly group. Everyone lowered their eyes to avoid his gaze except Ning Xi, who smiled and raised her hand as his eyes passed over her. “Teacher Zhang, I’d like to try.”
Teacher Zhang’s heart leaped with excitement. Was he finally going to see Ning Xi perform in person?
He’d been so regretful these past days when Ning Xi didn’t audition for any roles. Too proud to directly ask her to perform, yet frustrated when she showed no interest in any characters.
He’d almost thought Ning Xi looked down on the school’s stage play, never expecting her to volunteer for the unpopular fifth female lead role.
“Ahem, this character is a villain, disfigured and extremely ugly. Are you sure?” Teacher Zhang asked.
Ning Xi stepped forward from the group and stood before him earnestly. “Teacher Zhang, I’m very interested in the role of Miao Xia. I hope you’ll give me this opportunity.”
“Very well. Let’s see your audition.” Teacher Zhang flipped to a page in his script and handed it to Ning Xi. “Miao Xia was abused by her mother since childhood and grew up to become an extremely disturbed sadist. This is a scene where she tortures a cat. Take a look.”
Taking the script, Ning Xi found only sparse lines words that sounded normal but became utterly chilling when imagined being spoken while torturing an innocent stray cat.
Ning Xi realized Yu Qingxue and Teacher Zhang truly were kindred spirits, one wanting to screen tragedies on Valentine’s Day, the other choosing this dark, serious tearjerker for the year-end performance.
After memorizing the lines in one minute, Ning Xi said, “Teacher Zhang, I’m ready.”
“That quickly?” Teacher Zhang looked surprised. “Don’t you need time to get into character? Don’t think you can just wing it. If you can’t satisfy me, even if you’re the only one auditioning for Miao Xia, I won’t give you the role.”
Ning Xi said with certainty, “Teacher Zhang, I know, I’m truly ready.”
“As long as you’re confident in yourself.” Teacher Zhang walked over to the student group and stood at the edge. “Treat this area as the audience seats. Begin.”
As soon as Teacher Zhang uttered the word “begin,” Ning Xi’s entire demeanor instantly transformed.
She was still smiling, but the curve of her lips and the glint in her dark eyes exuded an unsettling aura elusive yet instinctively repelling.
Teacher Zhang whispered to the students beside him, “Watch carefully how Ning Xi performs.”
Ning Xi strolled over leisurely when suddenly, as if hearing something, she tilted her head slightly, her smile deepening. “How odd to hear a kitten meowing in a place like this.”
Her sing-song, almost recital-like tone sent chills down everyone’s spine.
The students were immediately convinced by Ning Xi’s portrayal of Miao Xia. As they watched her take a step forward, they couldn’t help but worry for the stray cat she had set her sights on.
Everyone knew Miao Xia was twisted but the cat didn’t.
Ning Xi stopped at a spot, her eyes suddenly lighting up as she pulled a sausage from her bag and slowly crouched down. “Fluffy, look what I have here. Come…”
The kitten seemed tempted by the sausage, inching closer as Ning Xi’s gaze grew increasingly intense, her focus narrowing.
The onlookers held their breaths…
When the scene ended, Ning Xi stood up, her eerie smile lingering until applause broke out, snapping her back to reality.
Ning Xi exhaled, her entire body relaxing as she reverted to her gentle self, with no trace of the darkness from moments ago.
“Ning Xi, you were amazing!” the students exclaimed in awe.
“Thank you.”
“Teacher Zhang, did my performance meet the mark?” Ning Xi asked nervously, her dark eyes flickering with hope.
Teacher Zhang pulled a snow-white handkerchief from his pocket, wiping the sweat from his temples before replying, “Not bad.”
He truly couldn’t fault Ning Xi’s performance every nuanced detail and exaggerated flourish executed with the finesse of a seasoned actor, effortlessly embodying the role.
“Teacher Zhang, does ‘not bad’ mean the role is mine?” Ning Xi’s hopeful gaze made it impossible to refuse.
The stern lines of Teacher Zhang’s lips softened into a faint smile. “I’ve checked with other classes, no one’s competing for this role. It’s yours.”
…
After class, Teacher Zhang asked Ning Xi to follow him to his office.
Tomorrow marked the start of filming for the third episode of Let’s Fall in Love Today, and Yu Qingxue had promised to pick her up after class.
As Ning Xi trailed behind Teacher Zhang toward the office building, she texted Yu Qingxue:
Ning Xi: Teacher Zhang wants to talk. Meet me at his office.
Yu Qingxue: Okie dokie~
Unbeknownst to Teacher Zhang walking ahead, he was about to be served a hefty dose of PDA.
