- Chapter 16 - Does Junior Sister Have a Sweetheart?
“Does Junior Sister know about the Divine Decree?” Ji Weining asked.
She didn’t know how to explain this matter to her. She didn’t even know where her junior sister had come from. She wanted her junior sister to understand what she ought to know.
[Please romance Junior Sister!]
That voice in her mind spoke up again.
“I know a little about it.” Su Jin’an frowned slightly. To be honest, this matter was closely tied to her family, but for her, it felt distant her family would never let her get involved.
Ji Weining spoke candidly, “Ever since I was born, it has told me to romance you.”
Though puzzled, Su Jin’an accepted her explanation, though it didn’t quite match the Divine Decree she was familiar with.
“Why are you so sure it’s me?” Su Jin’an moved closer, her hand already slipping behind Ji Weining’s head, her elbow resting on her shoulder. The two were now inches apart.
“That’s what I’m wondering too.” Ji Weining sighed helplessly. This was all she knew so far; the rest remained a mystery to her. “Junior Sister, I’ve told you everything.”
Over the years, she had never shared this with anyone. Otherwise, she would have urged her master to find a disciple much sooner. But she knew that even if her master had searched, it wouldn’t have been the right person. The moment she laid eyes on Su Jin’an, an intuition told her that this was the one, the person the Divine Decree was pointing to.
Perhaps this, too, was something the Divine Decree had bestowed upon her, but it was definitely not that simple.
“Hmm, and then?” Su Jin’an looked at her, not entirely grasping her meaning, and continued probing.
“Huh? What else is there?” Ji Weining was clueless about the rest. This Divine Decree was so mysterious, revealing nothing.
After a moment of thought, she remembered. Oh, she also knew that her junior sister’s surname was Su, and the Divine Decree had mentioned she would bring harm to the world. But Ji Weining thought the Divine Decree’s claims were utter nonsense.
Seeing the surprise on Ji Weining’s face, Su Jin’an didn’t press further. She removed one hand from Ji Weining’s shoulder, took Ji Weining’s hand which was resting casually by the bed and placed it on her own collar. “Didn’t the Divine Decree tell you to romance me?”
“Yes.” Ji Weining’s eyes flickered with astonishment again.
Su Jin’an, however, spoke nonchalantly in a soft voice, “Help me then. Don’t close your eyes. I’m not ugly.”
What kind of talk was that? Ji Weining felt utterly helpless, unsure how to respond. Was she closing her eyes because of that? Was it because Su Jin’an was ugly? Why was she closing her eyes, then?
It was because she couldn’t treat her as just an ordinary patient, couldn’t see her as a simple junior sister, couldn’t regard her as a mere mortal in her eyes.
Romance her or, as the storybooks described it, make her fall for her.
Make her love her.
She wasn’t a narcissist; she knew she didn’t have that much charm.
Perhaps she just wanted to protect her. But in just a few days, it was her own heart that had become unsettled.
“What is Senior Sister still hesitating for?” Su Jin’an pressed on, her hand already at her collar, tugging at it to slip it off.
Ji Weining held her own hand back, preventing Su Jin’an from guiding it further. Pressing her lips together, she asked, “Does Junior Sister have a sweetheart?”
Su Jin’an noticed that Ji Weining was anticipating the answer to this question, and she was also feeling anxious. What kind of answer was she hoping for? Perhaps “no.” If there were no divine decree, would she still treat her the same way as she did now? Admittedly, Su Jin’an didn’t strictly follow the guidance of the divine decree, but to some extent, wasn’t she subtly influencing herself all along?
Once the “conquest” was complete, what would the divine decree ask her to do next? Or could it be that the divine decree intended to harm her? And would Ji Weining harm her? She was gambling on it, both of them were gambling on the answer.
“Of course not,” Su Jin’an moved closer to her.
Just like in the storybooks Ji Weining had read before, she drew near. If Ji Weining took just one step forward, the tips of their noses would touch.
“Then, if I said that right now, I really, really like you, would you find it strange?” They had only known each other for a few days. Was it too shallow to speak of affection so soon?
Her mind was filled with countless thoughts. Looking back, how was this question any different from asking if she had someone in her heart?
Su Jin’an understood her meaning. She gazed into her eyes but couldn’t discern any hidden intentions. It seemed as if the question was raised solely because of the divine decree. Did she truly want to know the answer?
Too many questions swirled in her mind, and she didn’t know where to begin.
“If Senior Sister likes me, would you find it strange yourself?” She rephrased the same question from a different angle and gave her the answer she wanted: “If it’s Senior Sister, I might not find it strange.”
And why should she find it strange? Love is simply a natural emotion for everyone.
Hearing this, Ji Weining’s expression froze slightly. She could no longer distinguish whether her actions were driven by the divine decree or by her own genuine desires.
It felt as though she was no longer her original self or perhaps she had never truly understood who she was until now, when she was beginning to discover her true nature.
“Senior Sister’s affection is too pure,” Su Jin’an chuckled at her slightly dazed expression.
Just like when she saw her cooking in the kitchen, she was simple and uncomplicated. There were no ulterior motives, she simply did things wholeheartedly and in the best way possible. If she were to fall for someone, would it be the same? Was it about the situation, the object, or the person?
Ji Weining hesitated but remained sincere, speaking from the depths of her heart: “Then, Junior Sister, would you be willing to try being the one in my heart?”
In her heart, she selfishly hoped that her feelings weren’t merely due to the divine decree, and she also hoped that Su Jin’an’s feelings weren’t influenced by it. She believed she must genuinely like this person. In her eyes, Su Jin’an was different from everyone else, more radiant than anyone.
“Alright,” Su Jin’an released her hand and her shoulder, lying back down. Her clothes loosened instantly, and she looked at Ji Weining again, saying, “I also want to know what the divine decree intends for Senior Sister to make of me after this ‘conquest’?”
“And what does it want Senior Sister to do after you’ve conquered me?” Su Jin’an smiled, a hint of resignation in her expression.
The person before her was truly pure and honest. It had been a long time since she had felt so free from the need to decipher others’ thoughts. She asked, “Aren’t you going to change, Senior Sister?”
Bringing the conversation back to the original question.
“Alright,” Ji Weining no longer hesitated. For her, this was also a test. She reached out and tossed her outer garment aside.
“Do you want me, Senior Sister?” Su Jin’an murmured again as Ji Weining drew near.
Ji Weining replied, “Junior Sister is too tired today. If you want something, we can talk about it later.”
Su Jin’an found her utterly adorable. “Does Senior Sister know what I want?”
“Whatever you desire, Senior Sister can give it to you.” Even the stars in the sky were insignificant, the only thing that had mattered to her in two hundred years was this person.
“Take it all off,” Su Jin’an mumbled with a yawn.
Ji Weining complied, reaching for her back and tugging at the ties until everything loosened. This was her first time doing such a thing for someone else, and she felt a bit flustered.
After changing her into sleepwear, she retied the strings.
Su Jin’an lazily turned over, shifting to the inner side of the bed. “Is Senior Sister going back to sleep?”
“I can’t go back,” Ji Weining answered helplessly.
“By the Oracle’s decree?” Su Jin’an had heard that the Oracle sometimes imposed demands.
“Yes.”
But she must have defied the Oracle in some way for it to issue such a command.
Su Jin’an asked, “Did you disobey the Oracle?”
“I told it to shut up.” Remembering this, Ji Weining felt aggrieved and complained to Su Jin’an, “It’s so petty.”
Su Jin’an couldn’t help but laugh at this. Amused, she teased, “Does Senior Sister not want to stay in the same room with me?”
“Not at all. If Junior Sister allows me, I’ll come every day.” Ji Weining, who had half-risen, settled back down.
Su Jin’an said, “Go change your clothes. They’re dirty.”
“Alright.” Ji Weining took out a spare set of clothes from her qiankun pouch.
Looking at the garments, Su Jin’an remarked, “Why are all your clothes the same?”
“To save trouble,” Ji Weining explained, casually changing in front of her. “After the new selection competition, I’ll take you out to buy some.”
Su Jin’an replied, “Mm.”
Only then did they realize the problem, there were no ready-made clothing shops or even fabric stores left in the town. They hadn’t wandered around in so long.
Su Jin’an looked her over and commented, “Senior Sister has a nice figure.”
“Just nice?” Ji Weining’s tone carried a hint of grievance, as if protesting the inadequacy of the compliment. She glanced back at Su Jin’an and added, “I think Junior Sister is exquisitely charming.”
“Someone liked by Senior Sister Xiling couldn’t be just ‘nice.'” Feigning grievance was hardly possible with Su Jin’an, who responded with a strange retort.
“You know all about that, don’t you?” Ji Weining had never agreed to any of it.
“Mm, I’m just a bit envious of how long you two were together.” Su Jin’an turned away, not wanting to look at her.
“We’ll be together even longer from now on.” After changing, Ji Weining embraced her, holding her as if cradling soft jade her junior sister was soft everywhere.
Su Jin’an didn’t struggle and let herself be held. “Let’s sleep early. Tomorrow, teach me some spells that use less spiritual power.”
“Alright.”
[Affection Progress: 10%.]
The Oracle’s voice sounded again, but this time it was different.
Ten percent? Does it need to reach one hundred? So, Junior Sister does have feelings for me? A sweet sensation filled her heart, bringing contentment. Two hundred years suddenly didn’t seem so long after all.
She buried her face in the nape of Su Jin’an’s neck, mingling with her disheveled hair, one hand resting on her abdomen, holding her hand.
Night had fallen, the bright moon hung high, and stars twinkled. They had thought everyone was asleep, but little did they know, a few souls remained awake through the night.
The next morning, another knock came at the door.
But this time, it wasn’t her room, it was Su Jin’an’s.
“Senior Sister, please wake up. I need to speak with you,” the person outside said, their voice hushed, almost timid.
Ji Weining recognized the voice, it was Su Jia. It seemed there was progress regarding the demonic energy matter.
