- Chapter 11 - Night Realm (Part 8) A Mistake Every Woman Makes
Especially on his abs, a bloody scratch crawled across them, left behind when Jin Yongyi whipped him. Right now, it rose and fell with his breathing, looking as though it had been given a life of its own.
Jin Yongyi hurriedly pinched the web of her hand between her thumb and index finger and closed her eyes. Out of sight, out of mind.
Strands of her hair were still tangled between his fingertips. He raised his hand to sniff them lightly, his burning gaze fixed intensely upon her.
“Jin Yongyi. What kind of reaction is this?”
Jin Yongyi kept her eyes tightly shut, shaking her head furiously.
To see a young, fresh body the moment she opened her eyes—what a massive temptation this was for someone like her. She was supposed to be in the prime of her youth, but due to working every single day surrounded by greasy, balding, middle-aged men, she had grown increasingly asexual.
But he was a psychopath. Jin Yongyi did not like psychopaths; no matter how handsome he was, it would not do.
Yet when her hand was taken and guided to touch those abs, her fingertips brushing against the broken skin of the wound, feeling the slight roughness and hardness, even with her eyes closed, an image instantly flashed across her mind.
Setting aside the whole psychopath thing for a moment, she was simply appreciating every superior body equally. This had to be a mistake that every woman makes.
“Do you like my body?”
“!”
Jin Yongyi felt her brain turn into a chaotic mush from those words, though she quickly realized from it that this man was absolutely seducing her.
“Hmm? Do you like it or not?”
He rubbed his head into the crook of her neck again, his fingers restlessly slipping into the gaps between hers, helping her grope him all over.
Just as Jin Yongyi was about to nod, a familiar shout pierced her ears, snapping her out of the enchantment in an instant.
“Miss Jin, where are you?!”
It was Mu Qingfeng’s voice!
He actually came to rescue her! Neither the system nor the male lead had shown up, yet he, a minor supporting character, had actually come to save her! Boohoo, she was so moved; she was definitely keeping this wonderful colleague!
Jin Yongyi snapped her eyes open. Just as she was about to turn her head to search for the source of the sound, a mocking chuckle suddenly squeezed into her ear. She froze. In her narrow peripheral vision, the man slightly extended the tip of his tongue and lightly licked her neck.
“…”
“Ahhh!”
As soon as Jin Yongyi let out a cry, her mouth was covered, and her body was spun around in his embrace, her back pressing tightly against him. One of his hands clamped around her waist while the other forced her chin straight, forcing her to see the scene outside through the hole in the rockery.
Mu Qingfeng was still lowering his voice to call her name, hunching his back as he stealthily sneaked around to look for her.
Jin Yongyi made a couple of “mhm mhm” muffled noises, hoping to attract Mu Qingfeng’s attention.
The man’s scoff sounded right by her ear, as if mocking her naivety.
“You are that happy he came to save you?”
“…” Jin Yongyi glanced at him sideways.
“A pity, though. There are many demons here. Once he enters this place, he will never get out again. The demons will only toy with him like a mouse for a bit, and once they have had their fun, they will kill him.” He deliberately emphasized the last few words.
Sure enough, as his words fell, Mu Qingfeng suddenly broke into a frantic sprint on all fours, with the group led by the BBQ stick chasing right behind him in unison.
The scene looked somewhat absurd and comical. Jin Yongyi felt speechless and made another couple of token “mhm” sounds, meaning nothing by it.
However, the fellow holding her was displeased: “You want to save him?”
“Mhm mhm.”
“Why? You chose to save him from the very first moment you met him.”
“Mhm?! Mhm mhm mhm!”
His eyes darkened, and he let go of her.
Jin Yongyi took a deep breath and asked, “How did you know?”
He remained silent for a moment, then leaned down slightly, resting his chin on her shoulder. Tilting his head, he smiled and said, “Because before you even entered the Night Realm, I had already noticed you. I wanted to kill you and eat you, but you turned out to be much more interesting than I thought.”
His voice sounded innocent and romantic, yet it was filled to the brim with cruelty.
His embrace grew tighter. This person did not look overly muscular on his own, but when standing together with her, the size difference was exaggeratedly large. From the side, she was almost completely embedded into his body.
This made Jin Yongyi profoundly realize that he was not joking. At this very moment, she was like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.
“Do you want to save him?” He affectionately pressed his cheek against hers, staring together with her at the figure running for his life not far away. “I can help you, but you must promise me one condition.”
Jin Yongyi swallowed hard nervously: “What is it?”
“Legend says there is a forbidden art that can turn a living person into a heartless puppet. The puppet will obey the caster’s every word.” He turned his head, his eyes showing no lack of appreciation and fondness. “Become my heartless puppet, alright?”
“…”
Jin Yongyi’s face crumpled up, and she dared not speak, terrified that he might snap again in the next second and bring up some other bizarre idea.
There was a reason he was not the main character; he was psychotic beyond measure. If he were the male lead, this book would not even pass censorship.
He asked again with persistent determination.
Jin Yongyi forced a chuckle and asked, “Then do I count as dead?”
“How could that be? You will be by my side forever. I will protect you very well and dress you in beautiful gowns every day, okay?”
“…”
Jin Yongyi shuddered with revulsion. Did this psycho seriously think of her as a Barbie doll?
She could not help but feel a visceral wave of terror, her voice trembling: “I do not want to save him at all! I am not even close with him, why would I save him!”
“Liar.” His tone carried a trace of regret. “A little thing full of lies. Can I assume that everything you said before was false? In reality, you do not like Zhao Fuzhou at all.”
“…” Please, how did this connect back to Zhao Fuzhou again? She was full of lies, but he was completely unpredictable; the pot should not call the kettle black.
“Why do you not tell me, between me and Zhao Fuzhou, which one do you like more?”
Jin Yongyi’s head swam. She inexplicably hallucinated countless red laser lines appearing before her, which could not be bypassed no matter what posture she took; every path led to certain death. She did not know how to answer; she could not fathom what kind of attitude this psycho held toward Zhao Fuzhou either.
One thing was perfectly clear to her: she could not be made into a heartless puppet. If her character died, it just meant the mission was not perfectly completed and she would not get the hefty payout. At least she would still have her life to go back home and continue living. Once she became a heartless puppet, she would be trapped here for eternity.
She absolutely, positively must not make him happy!
“Do you know who I am?” Jin Yongyi sneered. “Yes, I am full of lies. But listen to me carefully: every single word I am about to say next is the absolute truth.”
“Zhao Fuzhou is the most, most, most powerful person in this world, and I am the person he trusts the most. I will accompany him step by step to the absolute peak. As for you, you are nothing but a maggot in the gutter; how dare you compare yourself to him? You want to turn me into a heartless puppet? Fine, go ahead, try it! If Zhao Fuzhou finds out, he will absolutely never let you off. Your good days are about to end!”
Jin Yongyi spat it all out in one breath. Aside from the sound of her heavy breathing, everything became terrifyingly quiet. She cautiously tilted her head to check his expression. Very suddenly, he laughed. The piercing laughter seemed to be forced straight out of his throat, dragged out thin and long, which was quite eerie.
“A maggot in the gutter! I will take that as a compliment.” He loosely kissed Jin Yongyi’s cheek, released her, and said happily, “The Zhao Fuzhou you keep yearning for has also come to save you. Let us see if you two can escape.”
The strength binding her vanished in an instant. She nearly lost her balance and fell to the ground. When she looked back, the person was already gone.
Furious, Jin Yongyi cursed out loud: “Bastard! Dead psycho! One day you will be turned into a puppet too, you little son of a gun!”
After cursing, she felt guilty again, fearing he might double back to teach her a lesson. Jin Yongyi did not dare linger; lifting her skirt, she slipped away as fast as lightning.
Meanwhile, in a dark, lightless corner of this lawn, lay a set of ink-red clothes that had been carelessly discarded.
This palace was truly massive. Jin Yongyi did not dare walk toward unlit areas, wandering around for a long time before finally making her way back to the main hall she had initially entered.
However, the scene before her eyes was completely beyond her expectations.
A crowd of people was scrambling to loot the treasures in the corner, and many were using tools to pry the gold off the walls. All kinds of valuable items were scattered all over the floor, and a few people had even broken out into fistfights to fight over some rare object.
Standing at the doorway, Jin Yongyi turned to stone.
What on earth were they doing? Are they treating the master here as dead? Trashing the place so brazenly?
Jin Yongyi walked inside with confusion, looking around. She did not see Zhao Fuzhou anywhere, but she did spot Zhao Zhao frantically tying up a bundle.
“That is about enough. For safety’s sake, we should leave quickly!” Zhao Zhao called out to the sisters following behind her. As soon as she turned around, she saw Jin Yongyi.
Her expression turned joyful, and she hurriedly ran over, saying, “I thought you… Miss, run quickly! The Master is dead. Take this chance to leave immediately. If the Illusion Slaves arrive, none of us will escape, we will all die!”
“Dead?!” Jin Yongyi was shocked. “But he was just…”
“There is no time, Miss, come with us!” Zhao Zhao grabbed her hand and immediately pulled her toward the exit.
Jin Yongyi was still dazed by the shock when she suddenly caught sight of a figure that looked exactly like Mu Qingfeng slipping behind the main throne seat. She quickly told Zhao Zhao to go ahead first while she chased after him.
Behind the main throne was originally a solid gold wall, but it had now split open down the middle with a wide gap, emitting a ghostly blue light.
Standing outside, Jin Yongyi saw a person standing with his head tilted back. Looking from his profile, it was indeed Mu Qingfeng, so she finally dared to enter safely. However, after taking two steps inside, a thick, putrid stench of rot invaded her nasal passages, making her head spin from the foul smell. She covered her nose and stopped in her tracks. Mu Qingfeng did not notice her coming in, and because of the stench, she did not dare open her mouth to call him either. She simply followed the direction of his gaze to look over.
She saw a dead tree, easily the size of ten people combined, growing right in the center. On one of its bare branches hung a disemboweled corpse. The branch pierced straight through the corpse’s throat, and from the chest down, it had been split perfectly in half. A long, red thing hung down from the middle of the corpse, and occasionally, pieces of shredded meat would drop down.
Jin Yongyi had lived for over twenty years and had never seen such a scene even in horror movies, yet now she was witnessing it with her own eyes.
Her spine went cold. Terrified to the point her legs gave out, she fell to the ground, letting out a loud cry of alarm.
Mu Qingfeng finally noticed her. He hurriedly ran over and stood right before her eyes, blocking her view.
“Miss Jin, I finally found you! Thank goodness you are alright, otherwise, I would have died of self-reproach.”
Jin Yongyi could not utter a single word. Waves of the foul stench drifted into her body; even though she could not see it anymore, her mind automatically replayed that horrific scene on a loop. Her lips turned pale, and she tremblingly clawed at the ground, wanting to crawl up and escape this place.
Mu Qingfeng hurriedly reached out to support her, explaining, “This is a tree demon. The entire palace relied on his power to be sustained. By the look of it, he has been dead for a while. There is no telling when this place might collapse; we must leave quickly.”
Jin Yongyi had absolutely no mental energy to wonder how he knew so much. Her legs kept shaking violently, and she could only barely walk by leaning her entire weight on him.
“How about I carry you out?” Mu Qingfeng suggested.
It was clear he meant it entirely out of goodwill. At their current snail’s pace, it would be a miracle if they could even cross the doorway within ten minutes.
Jin Yongyi nodded.
Mu Qingfeng released her arm. Just as he was about to wrap his arm around her waist, the entire palace suddenly began to violently rock and shake. Several people who were still scrambling for gold and silver screamed as they surged outward. The scene was chaotic; someone ran headlong past them and even knocked Mu Qingfeng aside.
“Miss Jin!”
Swaying unsteadily, Jin Yongyi crouched down, bracing her hands against the ground to keep from losing her balance and crashing down; if she fell and could not get back up, she would truly be done for.
Countless cracks snaked across the ceiling, and chunks of gold, large and small, came raining down. She happened to see a person running in front of her get struck by a massive piece of gold, falling to the ground instantly with a blood-covered head.
Humans are inherently creatures that fear death. Even knowing this was a virtual world, and even knowing she would not feel pain, Jin Yongyi could not help but be so terrified that her mind went blank.
“Miss Jin, Miss Jin, do not be afraid!”
Mu Qingfeng struggled to reach her side. As he helped her up, a distinct snapping sound echoed from right above their heads. The moment they looked up, a chunk of gold larger than a human was already hanging precariously.
Even if they reacted instantly to run out, they would still get crushed.
Without a single moment of hesitation, Mu Qingfeng immediately pulled Jin Yongyi into his embrace, intending to shield her beneath his own body.
Right at the instant the gold crashed down, a wild gale blasted in from the palace entrance, blowing everything into a chaotic frenzy. Jin Yongyi was originally gripping Mu Qingfeng’s clothes tightly, but along with a tearing sound, she saw Mu Qingfeng get swept up by the wind and slammed into the falling chunk of gold. Together, the man and the gold traced a parabola in mid-air and flew outward.
Before she could even process her shock, the gale grew fiercer, and the surroundings gradually turned into a sheet of blinding white. Yet, she alone remained safely in the eye of the storm, completely unaffected.
In utter panic, she screamed at the top of her lungs: “Mu Qingfeng! Mu Qingfeng, are you still alive? I, I am scared!”
As her words fell, the gale seemed to grow even more violent. Jin Yongyi’s hair was finally blown into a mess, her footing stumbled, and her whole body was swept into the wind. Terrified, she shut her eyes tightly. The expected scenario of her limbs flying out of control and ultimately being torn to pieces did not happen. Instead, she felt someone encircle her waist, drawing her into a tight embrace.
“Yiyi, next time you face danger, calling my name will be much more effective.”
The familiar voice rang beside her ear, remaining as gentle and incomparably effortless as always.
Jin Yongyi snapped her eyes open and saw the youth’s handsome, smiling face. The breath that had been tightly trapped in her throat finally escaped, but her little heart was still hammering violently against her throat, leaving her unable to say anything except to gasp for air frantically.
Having been battered by the raging gale which then abruptly ceased, the already collapsing palace accelerated its ruin. Chunks of gold came crashing down with loud clatters.
Jin Yongyi was still somewhat frightened. She proactively wrapped her arms around Zhao Fuzhou’s neck, shrinking further into his chest. He looked straight ahead, the smile at the corner of his lips deepening.
A wave of heat surged around them, rapidly spreading across the entire space. Under the pressure of an invisible force, the chunks of gold exploded one after another.
With his back to a rain of golden debris, Zhao Fuzhou carried her steadily as he walked outside.
With him around, nothing could harm her.
Jin Yongyi stared blankly at his profile, a thousand words condensing into just two words: Too handsome!
