Drink This Bowl Of Dog Blood! [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 4
A few days later.
“The interview I mentioned last time has been postponed because a high-profile financial tycoon has a busy schedule and needs to be interviewed first. So, we will start with that romance variety show instead,” Jiang Wei said, looking at her laptop while sitting at the table.
Song Yanxing was busy in the kitchen. He took out a marinated crucian carp, patted the surface dry with absorbent paper, and coated it with a thin layer of starch. “Alright,” he replied.
“There have been a lot of discussions about your comeback lately. We can officially respond now. First, post a Weibo update about your return using your personal account, and the studio will follow up with the official announcement.”
“No problem.” Song Yanxing placed the fish into a pan of hot oil, added salt, and fried it over medium-low heat until it was golden brown. He added ginger and garlic, sautéing them until fragrant, then poured in an appropriate amount of boiling water along with oyster sauce and other seasonings to braise for about ten minutes.
While waiting for the pot to simmer, Song Yanxing wiped his hands dry, picked up his phone, and thought for a few seconds before typing out a draft. He walked over to the living room table and handed it to the busy Jiang Wei.
“Is this okay?”
Jiang Wei looked up, momentarily stunned. Sensing her surprise, Song Yanxing’s lips curved slightly. “This isn’t just my fresh start; it’s the first step for both of us to move forward again.”
Jiang Wei offered a faint smile, but her pupils constricted when she read the text Song Yanxing had written:
Return to the silence, reclaim the original heart.
Memories of their early struggles flooded Jiang Wei’s mind. Back then, the studio consisted of only three people: Song Yanxing, Jiang Wei, and Wei Jiawen, whom they had met while working as extras. Song Yanxing pursued acting, Wei Jiawen was a low-tier internet celebrity, and Jiang Wei was a rookie manager just starting out. After meeting them, Jiang Wei brought Song Yanxing into the entertainment industry. Although Wei Jiawen eventually signed with a decent entertainment company through Jiang Wei’s connections, they remained close friends.
Everyone had achieved their original dreams. Song Yanxing was a Best Actor preparing for a comeback with a bright future, Wei Jiawen was a member of a popular girl group, and Jiang Wei had become a famous gold-level manager. Though they were starting over now, their original heart remained unchanged.
Jiang Wei blinked back a hint of moisture in her eyes and said, “It’s well-written.” She then added stubbornly, “Do not try to play nice with me; I do not fall for that. If you mess up the variety show recording, I will still criticize you without mercy.”
Song Yanxing laughed. “Do not worry.” He walked back into the kitchen, lifted the lid, and plated the braised fish. In an instant, the aroma of the food filled the entire apartment.
“My god, what smells so good?” The fragrance immediately dispelled Jiang Wei’s sentimental mood, and she hurried to the kitchen.
“Braised fish,” Song Yanxing said with a smile.
Jiang Wei leaned against the kitchen doorframe, watching the man carefully sprinkle chopped green onions over the dish. He radiated the charm of a perfect domesticated man. After watching for a while, Jiang Wei concluded that it was no wonder Song Yanxing married so young. Anyone who saw this would want to kidnap this man and bring him home.
“In that variety show, a reconciliation is impossible, but are you really going to try and develop a new relationship?” Jiang Wei suddenly asked.
Song Yanxing looked up, considering his answer carefully. “I am not sure if I will start a new relationship, but what I am sure of is that I will not let a failed emotional experience keep me trapped.”
Jiang Wei did not say anything else, but in her heart, she agreed. One has to look forward; it is the same for everyone.
After finishing the meal under Jiang Wei’s praise, Song Yanxing discussed his requirements for hiring an assistant. Once he finished, Jiang Wei took a phone call and left. After posting his Weibo update, Song Yanxing put on a face mask and headed out.
An hour later, his car pulled into a parking spot at a farmers’ market. Song Yanxing got out, took out his phone, and dialed a number. It was picked up after a few seconds.
“Hello? Yanxing, what is it?” a kind, elderly voice answered.
Song Yanxing walked slowly, scanning his surroundings for his target. “Grandma, is your little notebook near you?”
Hearing mention of her beloved little notebook, Grandma Song became instantly wary. “What are you planning? I am not giving it to you!”
Song Yanxing could not help but laugh. “I do not want your notebook. Just take a few photos of the strawberry-growing tips Qiuyi taught you. I just happened to pass by a stall selling potted strawberry plants.” Spotting his target, Song Yanxing walked over quickly and paid. He continued into the phone, “I thought what he said sounded interesting back then. It is a coincidence I ran into these, so I thought I would try raising a pot.”
“Oh, alright then,” Grandma Song agreed, not thinking much of it.
Back in the car, Song Yanxing looked at the photos she sent and the strawberry seedling in the passenger seat. He lowered his head and let out a soft laugh. He felt he must be possessed. Tan Qiuyi was not a total stranger to Song Yanxing; he had coincidentally seen a photo of him in the study before, and a flash of familiarity had crossed his mind even then. Now, that sense of familiarity was growing stronger. It was mostly because the way Tan Qiuyi seriously explained things was very much like that person.
But thinking rationally, that person could not possibly appear in these novel worlds. Song Yanxing rubbed his brow, pushing the doubt to the back of his mind.
Back at home, Song Yanxing took the nutrient soil and long planters he bought on the way to the bedroom balcony. He knelt down, poured the soil into the pots, dug small holes with a trowel, and placed the seedlings inside. He watered them thoroughly, following the notes in the photos. Once finished, he took a photo with his phone to record the growth status of the seedlings.
After cleaning up, he ate a quick meal and washed up. He had just lain down on the bedroom sofa and turned on his phone, which he had not checked since coming home, only to be bombarded with messages from Jiang Wei.
The first few were from 4:30 PM, half an hour after he posted his Weibo:
[Jiang Wei: The Weibo reaction is great! Haha!] [Jiang Wei: I feel like we are one step closer to success.] [Jiang Wei: Sigh, how can a top manager like me get so excited over a little feedback? I guess being out of the game too long has an impact. Reflecting…]
The later messages from around 7:00 or 8:00 PM revealed Jiang Wei’s total breakdown:
[Jiang Wei: Brother, why did you go to a farmers’ market? You were photographed!] [Jiang Wei: Buying strawberry seedlings?] [Jiang Wei: Thanks. Your refined and elegant Best Actor persona is officially shattered.] [Jiang Wei: I feel like we are one step further away from success. :)]
Seeing this, Song Yanxing did not panic. He opened Weibo. Sure enough, several trending tags were labeled with the explosive icon:
#Song Yanxing Strawberries #Encountering Song Yanxing #Song Yanxing Comeback
Song Yanxing tapped the first trending topic with his slender fingers. It was a submission to a major Weibo influencer. The post described the excitement of a fan encountering their idol and included several photos of Song Yanxing wearing a mask, looking down and carefully selecting strawberry seedlings. Despite the mask, the man’s superior height and outstanding temperament made him stand out.
The comment section was diverse, and a few top-voted comments were particularly hilarious:
“Does anyone understand? My White Moonlight who retired for love just announced his comeback, and there are already leaked photos a few hours later! Even though it is a bit out of character, I really love a god who likes growing strawberries!!”
“Spread the word: Song Yanxing likes growing strawberries!”
“Spread the word: In real life, Song Yanxing likes having strawberries grown on him!”
Song Yanxing pursed his lips and laughed, casually liking a few of the more ridiculous comments.
