Dr. Chi’s Mission: Seduce Officer Su - Chapter 28.1
The day after the promotional video was released.
It went viral, wildly, endlessly viral!
Su Qiao was summoned to the traffic police headquarters early in the morning for a meeting.
When she entered, Chief Wang was sitting in the main seat, admiring the promotional video playing on the projector.
He was so delighted, grinning from ear to ear, that he couldn’t hide his glee. The headquarters’ chances of scoring extra points in this year’s performance evaluation were practically secured.
On both sides of the conference table sat the staff who had participated in the shoot, their eyes fixed on the barrage of comments scrolling across the screen,
“Ah! Zhouhai Traffic Police really nailed it this time!”
“An old lady feeling young again, I’m totally into strong female characters, please lock this CP in forever!”
“Thanks to Zhouhai Traffic Police for feeding us so well…”
“The official ship is sailing strong, everyone, dig in!”
“The traffic police sister is so cool! I want to slide down her long legs~”
“The doctor sister is so domineering! My heart is racing, I need her to give me CPR~”
“Ten thousand signatures petitioning for them to turn this short video into a full series…”
The intensity of the comments grew more and more unsettling.
The fans were going crazy, and Su Qiao was utterly mortified.
She raised a hand to her forehead, not daring to look up again, wishing she could crawl under the table and hide.
Embarrassing, it was just too embarrassing, like being publicly shamed.
The worst part was that she had to endure this two-person humiliation all by herself, because Dr. Chi was swamped with work and couldn’t attend the meeting.
Pressing the pause button, Chief Wang picked up his teacup, took a sip, and prepared to speak.
“Ahem, the promotional video for the police-medical collaboration has received quite a positive response online!”
“I called this impromptu meeting today mainly to thank everyone involved in the filming for completing the shooting and editing of two videos in just four days.”
“The click-through rates, collections, and overall impact have exceeded expectations, even the provincial department leadership has praised it highly. This is the result of everyone’s hard work.”
“With the Spring Festival just around the corner, the headquarters has prepared some New Year’s gifts for everyone, a small token of appreciation, wishing you all a happy New Year in advance.”
Hearing about the gifts, Su Qiao immediately straightened up, perking up with energy.
She rubbed her hands together, her eyes sparkling, already planning to take Chi Jue’s share with her later.
After the meeting ended, Chief Wang quickly called out to her, “Xiao Su, come to my office for a moment.”
Su Qiao followed him into the office, where Chief Wang pulled out a specially approved transfer document stamped with an official seal from his drawer.
The captain, who was never serious and always wore a cheerful smile for everyone, now looked utterly dejected. “I really don’t want to let you go.”
Partings always bring a sense of melancholy.
Su Qiao hung her head silently, the transfer document crumpling slightly in her grip. “Thank you for your meticulous care over these past two years, Chief.”
“Ah, it’s nothing, just doing my job. You were always meant for bigger things. These two years must have been stifling for you, right?”
“How could they be stifling? I’ve had a great time in the traffic police team. Everyone has been so supportive of my work, and you’ve always given me extra guidance. I’ll cherish these memories.”
“A few months ago, when the shooting happened on Bar Street, I knew you were finally reaching the end of some things.” Chief Wang sighed meaningfully, then broke into a relieved laugh. “Go back to the Criminal Investigation Division and do your best. Your success will bring us honor too. From here on, you’ll have to walk the path alone. My last order to you is, if absolutely necessary, the mission can fail, but you must protect your own life. Don’t push yourself so hard; there’s still a long road ahead.”
Su Qiao furrowed her brows slightly. She understood what Chief Wang meant, that path was one she had to walk alone. These past two years as a traffic officer felt more like a long farewell.
She straightened her posture and gave a solemn salute, firmly promising, “I will remember my mission. Please rest assured, sir!”
“Ah, it’s not like we’re parting forever. Don’t make the atmosphere so heavy.” Chief Wang smiled again and instructed, “Take a few extra New Year’s gifts when you leave. Give my regards to Nanxing and Chief Zheng. Oh, and don’t forget Dr. Chi’s share.”
“Then I’ll thank you on behalf of Captain Ji, Chief Zheng, and Dr. Chi!”
…
After queuing up to receive her gift package, Su Qiao decided to sneak a half-day off.
As soon as she stepped through the door, she rushed excitedly into the kitchen, clutching her share of the New Year’s goods.
Her grandmother had just finished cooking steaming Laba porridge, and the aroma of cured meats filled the entire house.
She had planned to wait for her granddaughter to come home from work to have it for dinner, but this rascal had returned not long after leaving.
“You’re off work already at 10 a.m.?” Her grandmother scooped a bit of porridge with a spoon and held it out to her mouth. “Here, taste and see if it’s salty enough.”
“Today the traffic police unit handed out New Year’s gifts, and I got my share. I also snuck a little break.” Su Qiao mumbled with her mouth full of Laba porridge, opening the packaging to reveal the specialties inside. “There’s cured meat, sausages, and lots of dried goods and local products.”
“Go on, go wash your hands and set out two pairs of bowls and chopsticks. It’s Laba Festival today, we’ll offer a portion to the Kitchen God and one for your mother.”
“Got it.” Su Qiao obediently prepared the offering bowls and chopsticks.
A sudden ringtone made her jump, and she wondered if it was Ji Nanxing coming to catch her slacking off.
But seeing an unfamiliar number on the screen, she hesitated for a moment before answering, “Hello?”
“Is this Officer Su?”
“Yes, who is this?”
“Dr. Chi is in trouble.” The voice on the other end trembled slightly, clearly not a prank.
Su Qiao’s heart felt as if it had been punched, yet her voice remained frighteningly calm. “I’ll be right there.”
…
Half an hour earlier.
Chi Jue was about to lead her team on rounds in the inpatient ward when the hospital broadcast sounded an emergency rescue signal.
“Let’s go check the emergency department.”
The signal was related to orthopedics, so she decisively pulled a few of her assistants from the rounds team.
As the group rushed to the emergency building, the patient being resuscitated was still wearing a hospital gown from the Orthopedics Department.
Chi Jue recognized the family members, they were familiar faces.
At that moment, the child’s mother was weeping uncontrollably, while the father paced silently back and forth at the entrance. The situation was far from optimistic.
She removed her mask and walked straight over to the couple to ask, “What happened?”
The man’s anger erupted without warning, his roar echoing through the corridor. “It’s all because of you! Give me back my son!”
He lost control of his emotions, gripping Chi Jue’s neck and screaming hoarsely, “If it weren’t for you suggesting the transfer to the orthopedic hospital, my son would never have ended up like this!”
The assistant doctor beside them was stunned by the man’s roar. By the time he snapped back to reality, Chi Jue had already been shoved and pushed all the way to the stairwell.
Chi Jue felt the suffocating pressure on her throat. Her lips parted slightly, but she couldn’t force out a single word.
Though she struggled to stay calm, the man’s powerful arm left her no room to break free, no matter how hard she fought back.
“Stop! Let go of her now!” By the time everyone rushed over to intervene, it was already too late.
“If my son doesn’t make it, I’ll make you pay with your life!” The man’s eyes blazed with murderous intent. Clutching Chi Jue’s collar with all his strength, he shoved her violently down the stairs.
Chi Jue fell backward, unable to grab the handrail in time. After a brief moment of weightlessness, her spine slammed hard against the edge of the stairs, and she tumbled awkwardly until she collided with the wall at the landing.
“Ah!”
“Director Chi!”
“How could you attack a doctor?”
In an instant, the hallway erupted in gasps and screams.
A sharp, flying anti-slip tile had sliced a deep gash across Chi Jue’s forehead. Blood trickled down her brow, clouding her left eye, and gradually gathered into a warm, unstoppable stream that stained her white coat in a shocking, vivid red.
The back of her head had struck the wall, leaving her dazed and disoriented. Her vision blurred, and the crowd rushing down the stairs appeared as overlapping, crimson-tinged figures.
“Director Chi, can you move? Can you speak? How many fingers am I holding up? Please stay conscious.” The assistant doctor who had rushed over tried to remain calm, but the tremor in his voice betrayed his panic.
When Chi Jue remained unresponsive, he turned and shouted at the emergency nurses hurrying over, “Director Chi isn’t fully conscious, hurry up and help!”
Suddenly, Chi Jue weakly tugged at his sleeve, her voice barely a whisper, “Find Xiao Minghao… The surgery can’t be delayed… Go, now…”
…
Although there was a police patrol station right outside the hospital, the officers responding to the call were stuck in traffic on the main road.
Su Qiao, familiar with the road conditions in that area, had deliberately taken a shared e-bike.
She arrived at the hospital first and, following the directions from an unknown caller, rushed straight to the emergency building.
Tong An’an spotted the frantic figure in the crowd immediately and waved her phone, calling out urgently, “Officer Su, over here!”
Su Qiao had never met Tong An’an before, nor did she have the energy to wonder how this doctor had gotten her contact information. Her mind was completely consumed with worry for Chi Jue’s safety.
“What happened? Where is Dr. Chi now?” She strode closer, her feigned composure crumbling under the urgency in her tone.
Tong An’an’s anxiety eased slightly at Su Qiao’s arrival. She quickly led the way toward the room where Chi Jue was being treated.
Breathing rapidly, she explained, “Director Chi was pushed down the stairs by a patient’s family member. She’s quite badly injured. We already called the police, but they haven’t arrived yet, so as a last resort, I contacted you.”
Hearing that Chi Jue had been pushed down the stairs, Su Qiao’s heart clenched with panic. “Where is the perpetrator?”
“To avoid disrupting the hospital, security has confined the troublemaker to the rest area outside the emergency resuscitation room.”
“I’ll handle the matter. Let me go check on Dr. Chi first, how badly is she injured?”
“We’ve already taken X-rays, and we’re still waiting for the results.” Tong An’an paused at the door of the ward and advised, “If she’s asleep, don’t disturb her. If she’s awake, try to comfort her. No matter how strong a doctor’s mental fortitude is, they’re still human. Dealing with a medical dispute like this is bound to affect their emotions, one way or another.”
“Okay.” Su Qiao agreed, pushing the door open gently.
Tong An’an didn’t follow her in. Instead, she softly closed the door, leaving the two of them alone.
Chi Jue was half-leaning against the headboard. The wound on her forehead had been treated, but traces of blood mixed with alcohol still lingered faintly on her face, accentuating her disheveled hair and frail frame, a pitiful sight tinged with a profound sense of brokenness.
She hadn’t even had time to take off her white coat, and the bloodstains spreading across it hinted at the sudden life-and-death crisis she had just endured.
As always, she remained emotionally composed, her gaze unfocused as she stared at the lifeless withered branches outside the window, lost in thought.
