Dr. Chi’s Mission: Seduce Officer Su - Chapter 18
“Come in,” Chi Jue called softly, busy arranging the vase and too preoccupied to notice who had arrived.
Su Qiao helped open the door. Ji Nanxing met her gaze with a meaningful smile before leading the group inside.
“Dr. Chi, hope we’re not interrupting your work?”
Chi Jue gently moved the vase to the side of her monitor, clapped her hands lightly, and looked up at Ji Nanxing. “Not at all, it’s been a relatively easy day today.”
Li Mobo and Liu Jiaqi followed behind, craning their necks curiously to get a look at the legendary Dr. Chi.
Both were rough-and-tumble types, and upon seeing such an elegant, scholarly beauty, they exchanged mischievous grins, silently praising their captain’s excellent taste.
Ao Yu and Wen Ling trailed in afterward, and the already small office was completely taken over by a crowd of tall, imposing police officers.
Chi Jue stood in the center, looking very much like a white chess piece surrounded by black ones.
“Showing up in such a large group, any patient who didn’t know better would think I’d committed a crime,” she joked, walking over to the water dispenser to prepare tea. “The office is small, so I’m afraid you’ll all have to stand.”
“No need to trouble yourself, Dr. Chi. Why not come with us to check on Cheng Can in his room?” Ji Nanxing stopped her from serving them.
Thinking it was a good suggestion, she readily accepted the invitation. “Of course. Should I also give you, as the leader, an update on his recovery progress?”
Ji Nanxing was amused by her tone. “Then we’ll be counting on you, our savior.”
The two chatted about Cheng Can as they led the way out of the office, with the others gradually filing out after them.
Su Qiao was left alone.
She deliberately stayed behind to leave last. Before closing the door, she couldn’t resist glancing once more at the bouquet of pink roses.
For a moment, she wanted to step closer and investigate, to see what was written on the card tucked among the flowers, but she quickly suppressed such an undignified, sneaky impulse.
As Chi Jue conversed with Ji Nanxing, she seemed somewhat distracted. She kept wanting to turn around and look for Su Qiao, but with a crowd of police officers between them, she could only manage scattered, half-hearted replies.
Ji Nanxing noticed her absentmindedness and brought up a topic he thought might interest her: “I heard you and Captain Su are going to film a promotional video together?”
Chi Jue relaxed her lips into a slight smile and nodded. “Yes, I haven’t had a chance to tell her yet.”
“She already knows. When the Traffic Police Department sent someone over yesterday, I thought they were trying to poach her back.”
“Captain Ji, actually, I’ve been wondering…” Chi Jue hesitated. It felt intrusive to try to learn about Su Qiao through someone else.
“You want to ask why she can be both a traffic officer and a criminal investigator, don’t you?” Ji Nanxing finished her question but didn’t give a direct answer. “That’s something you should ask her yourself. She’s the only one who can answer that.”
Chi Jue was taken aback by Ji Nanxing’s ability to read her thoughts, so she changed the subject. “Being a criminal investigator must be dangerous. Why would they want to pull her back from being a perfectly good mounted police officer?”
If she weren’t concerned for Su Qiao’s safety, why would the usually aloof Dr. Chi interfere in someone else’s career choices?
She knew it was abrupt, but she couldn’t suppress the worry weighing on her heart.
“Someone has to take on this responsibility, just like doctors face occupational exposure risks. You wouldn’t refuse to save lives just because there’s an outbreak and it’s easy to get infected, just as we wouldn’t turn and run when a criminal has a gun. The reason she became deputy captain at such a young age is because of her exceptional abilities. Having worked with her for so many years, I’ve seen how hard she pushes herself. But now that she’s met you, I think things will change.”
Ji Nanxing, usually reticent, rarely spoke at such length. In Chi Jue’s calm words, she sensed a profound concern.
“Will meeting me really change things?” Chi Jue stared at her in a daze, a knowing smile tugging at the corner of her lips. “Captain Ji is also young, and becoming captain surely means you have some skills.”
Ji Nanxing humbly replied, “Doctor Chi, you flatter me.” Internally, she thought, Su Mudan (Mother Single), I’ve done my best to support you.
When the group entered the hospital room, Cheng Can was peeling a banana.
Scratches on his face had scabbed over, and his head and body were still wrapped in bandages. He took a bite of the banana and stared eagerly at the door.
Spotting Liu Jiaqi and Ao Yu carrying several large bags of gifts, his eyes lit up.
He cheered excitedly but couldn’t hide his frustration: “You jerks! Finally remembered to visit me?”
“Oho, look at that energy! Good thing you’re tough-skinned, or else…” Liu Jiaqi sat by the bed and snatched his friend’s banana, “or else we’d be attending your funeral banquet! Hahaha… Ouch!”
Ao Yu smacked him on the head. “Shut your foul mouth! Can’t you say something auspicious?”
Ji Nanxing gestured toward the two standing by the wall. “Luckily, you ran into Captain Su and Doctor Chi. It wasn’t easy pulling you back from the brink of death.”
Cheng Can looked at the two, clasped his hands in a fist, and bowed. “My saviors! I have no way to repay you except with my hand in marriage!”
Chi Jue chuckled teasingly, “No need for that, I don’t have such luck.”
Liu Jiaqi joked, “We’re having hotpot today, and you’re not invited~”
Cheng Can was puzzled by Su Qiao’s sudden return to the team, but the group’s laughter quickly drowned out his thoughts.
While everyone crowded around him, asking about his condition, Chi Jue gently tugged on “Little Bear’s” wrist and whispered, “Come with me.”
Su Qiao was puzzled but couldn’t resist the doctor’s initiative, so she hurriedly followed her out of the room.
Chi Jue refused to let go as they moved through the hallway, drawing curious glances from passersby until they turned into the safety exit at the end of the corridor.
Su Qiao gazed at Chi Jue, who still seemed unwilling to release her, and asked softly, “What’s wrong?”
“I don’t really like noisy environments. I wanted to find a quiet place to be for a while.” The excuse was made up on the spot, she simply wanted to seize more moments alone in their limited time.
“So, you dragged me to the safety exit? I didn’t even get a bite of Cheng Can’s banana.” Su Qiao found the doctor endearing, as her flimsy reasoning was hardly convincing.
Shedding her usual aloof demeanor, Chi Jue wrinkled her nose. “What’s more important, the banana or me?”
“You.” Su Qiao answered without hesitation, her voice tinged with a fluttering heart, her bright eyes shimmering with shyness.
Chi Jue’s secret delight lay hidden beneath a calm surface. She took a small step closer, hands behind her back, and habitually breathed in Su Qiao’s pleasant scent.
“Do you have any questions for me?” Once again, an unconventional line of dialogue, she was trying to create a reasonable opportunity for them to understand each other.
Su Qiao certainly had many questions, but after a moment of hesitation, she surprised with her inquiry: “Um… are you free tonight?”
Chi Jue was taken aback. Had this blockhead finally come to her senses and was actively asking her out?
Afraid of moving too fast in closing the distance, Su Qiao hurriedly explained, “The team is having a hotpot dinner tonight. Come with me, we can set the perfect stage for some hearty Jianghu cuisine.”
Dr. Chi felt a slight disappointment. Compared to the lively, festive red broth, she would have preferred if “Little Bear” had taken her alone to some cheap street stall, even if the environment was less than ideal. She’d gladly savor the taste of everyday life.
“If you already have plans, that’s totally fine. It was a last-minute invitation anyway.” Su Qiao cared deeply about the possibility of rejection. After being cold-shouldered in the car last time, she had learned to leave herself an escape route.
Chi Jue had never been fond of team gatherings. Her energy was limited, and maintaining social relationships had always been a chore for her.
But the “Little Bear” in front of her was nervously fidgeting with her fingers, saying it was fine while her pitiful, hopeful eyes betrayed her anticipation.
“Alright then, Officer Su. It’s hard to refuse such a warm invitation,” Dr. Chi agreed cheerfully. “But won’t it be too abrupt for me to join? It’s your team’s internal gathering, after all.”
“How could it be abrupt? Captain Ji would be over the moon if you showed up. If you’re not comfortable, I’ll stick by your side the whole time and whisper secrets to you,” Su Qiao teased playfully.
Feeling her feet ache from standing, she casually leaned one hand against the wall for support, completely unaware that this gesture had cornered Dr. Chi.
Such a natural “wall pin” crossed the hidden boundaries between them, and the air grew thick with the fragrance of ambiguity in their shared breaths.
Chi Jue leaned delicately against the wall. The height difference forced her to look up, giving her a perfect view of Su Qiao’s sharp jawline and those glistening, slightly upturned smiling lips.
A little devil suddenly whispered in her ear: Why not grab Officer Su’s tie, pull her close, and steal a kiss? Go on, claim this adorable little teddy bear!
Chi Jue tried to swallow the impulse, her fair swan-like neck tensing with restrained desire. Only her gaze couldn’t hide the urge to invade.
Su Qiao, who had been slightly hunched, met those shimmering, lake-like eyes and felt her smile grow stiff. She wanted to say something to ease the suddenly dense atmosphere.
The next moment, Dr. Chi could no longer resist, she tightened her grip on Su Qiao’s tie and pulled that gorgeous, startled face close to hers.
Her crescent-shaped eyes sparkled with mischief. The more innocent and pure “Little Bear” seemed, the more she wanted to tease her, such a wicked sense of humor.
She truly enjoyed seeing the usually composed Officer Su in her police uniform flustered and shy, the contrast was irresistibly cute.
The emergency exit was eerily quiet, amplifying the sound of their heated breaths.
Chi Jue murmured in response, “Isn’t it Officer Su who’s over the moon?”
In Su Qiao’s gaze, those enticing red lips parted slightly, and her voice, smooth as silk, tickled the ears and stirred the heart.
“I… I… um… that…” Su Qiao stumbled over her words in a panic, her palm clumsily covering the tie, only to accidentally grasp Dr. Chi’s hand instead.
Was it static from the winter dryness, or the slight chill of her fingertips that sent a wave of panic through her? She jerked her hand away as if shocked, unable to pinpoint the source of that tingling, electrifying sensation.
Is this little one frightened? Chi Jue mused inwardly with a smile.
Unfazed, she extended her other hand, crafting a graceful excuse for her bold move, “Your tie is crooked. Let me fix it for you~”
