Does the Alpha Have to Be a Succubus too? - Chapter 3
Lu Heguang’s overall impression of Wyatt was quite positive. Perhaps because the training period had not started yet and the academy was not crowded, Salorian spent the afternoon leading him around. He dutifully introduced the essential facilities and toured the classrooms and training grounds of various departments. It was not until dusk that the two returned to the dormitory building, still engaged in conversation.
“Senior, you said earlier that most people choose to stay at the academy. Why does it look so empty?” Lu Heguang bought a bottle of nutritional supplement from a passing vending robot and handed it to Salorian as he sat down beside him.
“Because it is the holidays,” Salorian said after unscrewing the cap and taking a couple of sips. He let out a long breath. “Weekends and holidays are different. During the holidays, it is better to be with family.”
“Then why are you still at the academy, Senior?”
“Waiting for you.” Salorian tightened the cap and watched the sunset on the horizon. “I have to coordinate your schedule for the next two days. If I go back, who will take care of you?”
Salorian was a bit overly familiar, but Lu Heguang did not dislike it. Perhaps due to a positive first impression, even the slap mark on Salorian’s face that had not faded yet looked much more tolerable now. Lu Heguang stood up and chased after the vending robot before it wandered too far. Salorian saw him return with an item and suddenly press it against his face. The icy touch made him shiver. “What is this!”
“Ice,” Lu Heguang said as he rubbed the ice pack against his cheek. “It is for the swelling. Actually, a hard-boiled egg would work even better.”
Salorian looked at this boy from the countryside suspiciously, not understanding how he knew such ancient methods. “No need. I will just find a medical robot to spray some medicine on it when I get back. You do know what a medical robot is, right?”
“I am not a bumpkin,” Lu Heguang said seriously. “My dad taught me these things. They are very useful.”
Salorian did not say anything more, pointing upstairs instead. “Which bed do you want? I will set it up for you later. Are you bringing your own bedding or using the academy-issued sets?”
“I will bring my own,” Lu Heguang said as he stood up and bowed. “Thank you, Senior.”
Startled, Salorian stood up as well. “There is no need to be so polite with me. We will be living together from now on, so please be casual.”
“Xiao Guang!”
A familiar voice rang out behind them. Both turned to look. Lu Ze was wearing an observation wristband identical to Lu Heguang’s. He had evidently been picked up by Feiore. He walked up and stopped in front of Lu Heguang. “How is it?”
“It is great.” Lu Heguang had no trouble adjusting to this new place, especially with a senior like Salorian guiding him. He nodded. “Where is Father?”
“Feiore is waiting at the gate. I came to pick you up so we can go see where you will be staying.” Lu Ze wrapped an arm around his shoulder and gave him a little shake. Only then did he notice the Omega standing next to Lu Heguang. Having already learned from Feiore that this was his son’s guide, he smiled and nodded. “Hello, classmate.”
Salorian’s gaze fell on Lu Ze’s face. He froze for a moment before hurriedly nodding back. “Hello.”
“Thank you for looking after my Xiao Guang.” Lu Ze patted Salorian’s shoulder and led Lu Heguang toward the exit. The blue-haired youth glanced back at his senior, only to see an inexplicable blush creeping across Salorian’s face.
Lu Heguang’s pupils contracted. He suddenly grabbed Lu Ze’s hand. “Dad.”
“Hungry? I do not know if a young master like Feiore even has a kitchen in his house. Tell me what you want to eat, and I will cook for you.”
“Dad, I think Senior likes you,” Lu Heguang said with a complicated expression. Lu Ze paused and looked back at Salorian, who was still standing there. He said hesitantly, “That should not be possible, right? I am not even in my heat cycle. Even if I were, an Omega would not be that infatuated with me, would they?”
Seeing Lu Heguang’s shocked yet faintly disappointed expression, the romantically experienced Lu Ze immediately understood. His pure Xiao Guang seemed to be having his first awakening of interest. To avoid standing in the way of his son’s blossoming feelings, Lu Ze signaled for Lu Heguang to wait. “I will go over and explain.”
“There is no need. Maybe I just imagined it,” Lu Heguang said flusteredly, but Lu Ze had already let go of his hand and walked back. Lu Heguang watched as Lu Ze pulled out two bags of handmade cookies from somewhere and said something to Salorian with a smile.
Salorian’s expression shifted from surprise to anticipation and finally to complete bewilderment. He waved his hands frantically. He seemed a bit startled, and his voice was loud enough for even Lu Heguang to hear clearly. “You have misunderstood! I just thought you were a very unique Omega and got a bit distracted. I did not have that kind of intention.”
For some reason, hearing those words made Lu Heguang feel relieved. He watched Lu Ze hand the cookies to Salorian as a meeting gift. He then watched Salorian awkwardly lock eyes with him from a distance before both shyly lowered their heads to avoid the gaze.
“Alright, let’s go. The misunderstanding is cleared up.” Lu Ze’s hand returned to Lu Heguang’s shoulder. He seemed to find the adolescent’s emotions quite amusing, but out of respect for his son’s feelings, he did not tease him. He led him away from Wyatt.
Lu Heguang leaned gratefully against his father’s arm. Lu Ze had raised him alone since he was a child, handling laundry, cooking, and earning money with ease. In Lu Heguang’s heart, Lu Ze was a perfect father.
Feeling the supple, firm muscles on Lu Ze’s arm as he leaned down to open the car door, Lu Heguang thought silently. Dad’s physique is also perfect. Even if Senior really liked him, no, no, no, that will not do.
The good student Lu Heguang, who had suddenly fallen into self-conflict, did not yet know that the university life he was vaguely anticipating would not be as beautiful as he imagined. But before that, he first encountered another problem.
Having grown up as an ordinary person, Lu Heguang had no proper concept of what a home for an Imperial Marshal would look like. When the car stopped in front of a castle, Lu Heguang looked out the window at the ancient fortress, the kind only seen in movies, and gaped in shock.
According to Lu Ze, he had lived here for a period of time before Lu Heguang was born. From the way Lu Ze intimately greeted the old butler, Lu Heguang could see he was telling the truth. In that case, why did Lu Ze leave Feiore’s side back then?
“It was all a misunderstanding,” Lu Ze said. He was busy catching up with the old butler while following his old memories toward the kitchen. Feiore took charge of carrying Lu Heguang’s luggage upstairs. Hearing Lu Heguang’s question on the way, he explained patiently. “Back then, neither of us thought we would have a child. When Lu Ze left, I had no idea what I had done wrong. It was not until I discovered your existence in that small town that I understood. He thought I did not want a child, and he wanted to keep you.”
That was why Lu Ze had left Feiore without a word while carrying the unborn Lu Heguang, seeking a place to settle down under a false name and trying to give Lu Heguang an ordinary but stable life.
“I never said I did not want a child with him.” Feiore opened the door to the room prepared for Lu Heguang and said softly, “I missed nineteen years of Lu Ze’s life and over ten years of yours. I hope to make amends for all of it.”
From their reunion until now, this was the first time Feiore had lowered his posture like this in front of Lu Heguang.
“From now on, I do not want to be separated from you two because of misunderstandings ever again,” Feiore said. “I am indeed the leader of the Imperial Star, but I am also a person. I will not leave you again for anything.”
“Father,” Lu Heguang said as he lowered his head and reached out to touch the sleeve of the military uniform. “Dad and I are both here.”
If they were not willing to believe him, the father and son would not have followed him here.
Feiore hummed in response, the corners of his lips curling slightly. Just as he was about to turn and go downstairs, Lu Heguang suddenly stepped forward and hugged him. This simple hug startled the Imperial leader, who was nearly forty but showed no signs of aging.
“I heard from Senior that I might have to live on campus soon, so I will pack up first.” Lu Heguang was used to hugging Lu Ze like this and did not feel anything was wrong. He picked up his suitcase and entered the room. Feiore paused for a moment before closing the door for him. He turned around slowly and met someone’s gaze.
Downstairs, Lu Ze, who had finally gained kitchen privileges from the old butler, stood with one hand on his hip and looked up at the second floor. He let out a light laugh. “What do you want to eat?”
The room Feiore had prepared for Lu Heguang was not overly lavish, likely considering that he had not grown up in a castle and might not adapt to that style.
Setting his suitcase by the table, Lu Heguang walked around the room. It was not just a bedroom; it also had a small living room. It was very spacious, more than a little bit larger than their house in the small town.
Lu Heguang lay on the bed, staring at the patterns on the ceiling. Suddenly, a tail wrapped around his arm. Lu Heguang, who had not yet adjusted to his new identity, jumped in fright, only realizing after sitting up that it was his own tail.
I have to learn to control it.
Lu Heguang wrapped the tail around his fingers a couple of times. Just as he was considering whether to figure it out himself or ask Lu Ze, Lu Ze quietly opened the door and squeezed inside. “Xiao Guang.”
“Dad, what is wrong?” Lu Heguang sat upright as Lu Ze grabbed a cushion from the floor and sat on it.
“It is time to teach you some common knowledge.” Lu Ze took a deep breath. “Regarding our diet.”
Lu Heguang immediately sat at attention, ready to learn. Then he heard Lu Ze say, “Although it is a bit much to ask of you right after you have come of age, you need a partner.”
Lu Heguang froze. He listened as Lu Ze explained that their kind needs to periodically absorb essence to remain normal. Hearing this, he recalled that Lu Ze had not had a partner for over a decade. “Then, Dad, all these years you…”
“It is fine. I am getting a full meal tonight.” Lu Ze patted his knee and smiled. “I am telling you this because I do not want you to endure your desires like I did because of trivial matters. But you must stay safe, so I hope you can find a fixed, stable partner.”
“But I do not have those kinds of desires yet,” Lu Heguang confessed. “What does it feel like?”
“You just do not have them yet. As you gradually adapt to your body, you will encounter a Hunger Period that is more mentally agonizing than an Alpha’s rut.” Lu Ze said quietly, “I do not want to see you suffer, so remember my words.”
