Does the Alpha Have to Be a Succubus too? - Chapter 1
Before his coming-of-age ceremony, Lu Heguang had never imagined that a human could grow a tail.
However, he had not even had time to change out of his graduation gown when he, a three-time “Student of the Year,” climbed over the school wall to skip class and run home for the first time in his life. Even though he stuck to secluded paths the entire way, he did not forget to tightly clutch the hem of his clothes, which bobbed up and down at his lower back with every stride.
Only Lu Heguang knew that hidden beneath his clothes was a slender yet powerful tail.
Fortunately, most of the residents were attending the graduation ceremony of the only high school in this remote small town today. No one stumbled upon his moment of distress. Panting, Lu Heguang stopped in front of a small two-story building with a courtyard, pushed the door open, and stepped inside.
With one hand still pressing down on his clothes, he swung his backpack to his feet with the other. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted his father’s shoes tucked away at the edge. Lu Heguang murmured to himself that his father should be at work at this hour, so he wondered why he was home. As he straightened up, he called out for his father anyway. Before he could even turn the doorknob, the door opened from the inside on its own.
No, someone had opened it from the inside.
Lu Heguang was already considered one of the taller students at school, but the man who suddenly appeared before him, dressed in a deep-gray military uniform, was two heads taller than him. The man looked down from his height at the embarrassed youth clutching his clothes behind him. Without turning his head, he spoke to someone behind him, “Lu Ze, is this your son?”
“Are you blind? Can’t you tell he looks just like me?”
Hearing that voice, Lu Heguang ducked and slipped past the man, looking toward the person lying informally on the living room sofa. The latter was unreservedly displaying his muscles. He did not look scrawny at all; rather, he made one want to give them a squeeze to see if they were as firm as imagined.
“Dad, who is that? Is he your friend?” Lu Heguang leaned close to Lu Ze and asked in a low voice, “I have something to tell you.”
“If I knew people like him, I would not have to work at a crappy company to raise you. I do not know him.”
While the father and son spoke, the man had already closed the door quite naturally and sat down on the single-seater sofa on the other side. His frame was so large that sitting on such a small sofa seemed to do him an injustice.
“Are you not going to introduce me?”
Lu Ze talked nonsense all day, and Lu Heguang was used to it. The exchange when he first entered the door already proved that his father’s relationship with this person was unusual. He joined the man in waiting for Lu Ze to speak.
Lu Ze rolled over and sat up. He pointed at the man and said to Lu Heguang, “Son, this is Ferroel. Ferroel, this is my son.”
The simple introduction did nothing to soothe Lu Heguang’s racing heart. Instead, his face stiffened. “Ferroel? Are you the Marshal?”
The name Ferroel resonated throughout the Imperial Star. Everyone knew that the leader of the Imperial Star was a hero capable of charging onto the battlefield alone to slay enemies. His glorious deeds could be recounted for three days and three nights, but why would Ferroel appear here?
Lu Heguang was just an ordinary prospective college student, and his father, Lu Ze, was just an ordinary office worker. By no logic should they be associated with the name Ferroel.
“Lu Ze, I must say,” Ferroel crossed his hands over his knees, his voice betraying no emotion, “no one has ever been able to hide from me for nineteen years. You are the first.”
Lu Heguang tugged at Lu Ze’s tank top. “Dad, should you not explain this to me?”
“You know it has been nineteen years. If you had not found us today, I definitely would have kept hiding from you for the rest of my life.” Lu Ze interrupted Lu Heguang, gritting his teeth as he spoke to Ferroel. “I know you look down on me. If I did not run, was I supposed to wait around for you to get tired of me and find someone new?”
“I never looked down on you, and I certainly never grew tired of you,” Ferroel said solemnly. “In these nineteen years, I have never sought out a second person besides you.”
“What?” Lu Ze was stunned by his words, then shook his head. “Impossible. You humans are too good at faking it.”
Humans?
Lu Heguang was startled. He thought of the tail still restlessly moving under his hand. Could it be that he and his father were non-humans? After all, how could a normal human grow a tail?
“I have never faked anything with you. From the first year we met, I have been single-minded toward you,” Ferroel said softly. “It is the same even now.”
“You never told me!”
“You never asked. I thought you knew.”
Lu Heguang’s attention was pulled back and forth between world-shattering fantasies and being shocked by Lu Ze’s love life. He finally remembered he had something to ask Lu Ze. “Dad, wait a second, I have something to say.”
“How exactly did you find me?” Lu Ze ignored his son’s urgency, continuing to question Ferroel. The man, however, looked at Lu Heguang. “I found you through clues obtained from him.”
“Xiaoguang?” Lu Ze jumped up suddenly, grabbing his son’s shoulders and asking worriedly, “What is wrong?”
“Before awakening, this child is exactly the same as you were back then.” Ferroel relaxed his shoulders, leaning back against the sofa that was a bit small for him. “An irrepressible charm, a faint scent, and today’s rebellious behavior of suddenly leaving school. Have you not told him yet? The day he reaches adulthood is also the day he welcomes his differentiation and awakening.”
Lu Ze finally noticed the hand Lu Heguang had been hiding behind his back. He gripped his son’s wrist and pulled his hand away. Amidst Lu Heguang’s embarrassed cry, a thin, long tail happily coiled around his father’s honey-colored arm.
“Dad,” Lu Heguang took a deep breath, “are we not human?”
Ten minutes later.
“A succubus?”
Lu Heguang’s eyes were vacant as he mechanically repeated Lu Ze’s words. “I? Dad, are you one too?”
He looked at Lu Ze, who was kneeling on one knee before him, staring at him with a look of worry. The honey-skinned Omega gave a hum of affirmation. He did not intend to explain why he had not told his son the truth for all these years. Lu Heguang could understand his feelings; his father had wanted him to have a normal childhood and life.
And Lu Ze had indeed achieved that. Over the past decade or so, except for the absence of a second father in their home, their life, though occasionally hardworking, could be called happy compared to the neighbors who were always fighting.
Lu Ze hummed again. Right now, he was not in the mood to argue with Ferroel. He seriously began to brief his son on what might happen tonight. “By right, you should have spent the moment of differentiation under the company of a school doctor.”
“At such an important time, you were not by his side to accompany him?” Ferroel interjected.
“I had to work.”
“Dad had to work,” the father and son spoke in unison. Ferroel decisively shut his mouth.
“In short, this tail represents that your succubus bloodline has awakened. With this bloodline protecting you, the differentiation will not be that painful.” Lu Ze reached up to pinch his face and smiled. “What will my Xiaoguang differentiate into tomorrow? No matter what it is, Dad will be right behind you.”
Lu Heguang caught a glimpse of Ferroel’s gaze toward them. It was soft, completely different from the cold, expressionless look he had in interviews.
The school finally called. Lu Heguang heard Lu Ze explaining to the homeroom teacher that the child was just feeling unwell and had been picked up early. He was about to close his door to calm down when he saw Ferroel coming up the stairs, stopping a short distance away from him.
“Mr. Marshal.” Lu Heguang could guess what he wanted to say. Sure enough, Ferroel said softly, “You should call me father.”
Lu Heguang glanced downstairs and cleared his throat. “We probably are not sure yet.”
“I have the test report. If you want to see it, I can transmit it to you via the Brain-Computer Interface.” As soon as Ferroel finished speaking, he saw Lu Heguang’s bare wrist. There was not even a mark from a watch, let alone an interface. He softened his voice. “After we go back, I will equip you with the latest model.”
“Go back?” Lu Heguang caught the key point. Ferroel was already certain they were blood-related. From the previous conversation, it was not hard to figure out why Lu Ze had left Ferroel with him back then. It seemed there had been a deep misunderstanding between them.
But when Ferroel said “go back,” where did he mean?
“Your current identity is no longer suitable for living here. You need someone to protect you.”
“But Dad has also been hidden among people for so long.”
“Hiding one’s identity and desires is very painful,” Ferroel said deeply. Only then did Lu Heguang remember that succubi feed on essence.
In all these years, he had never seen anyone by Lu Ze’s side. His father must have been enduring it very painfully.
Seeing his expression, Ferroel knew he had made a decision. His face relaxed. “Rest well. Happy graduation. Leave the rest to me.”
“Ferroel! Get down here!” Lu Ze finally found the wandering Ferroel. As soon as they met, they began a low-voiced dispute again. Lu Heguang heard his father warning Ferroel not to get close to him, and also heard Ferroel explaining to Lu Ze that Lu Heguang should not be made to suffer.
Lu Ze’s voice of opposition gradually faded.
Lu Heguang sat on the edge of his bed. The tail behind him was still joyful, swaying back and forth at his waist. With a headache, Lu Heguang buried himself under the covers and fell into a deep sleep.
The night passed quickly. When Lu Heguang woke up the next morning, he felt something was off. When he got to the bathroom and saw himself in the mirror, he realized he had grown taller and sturdier. While he still could not compare to his father’s height and build, he was worlds apart from yesterday’s self. His clothes had become much smaller.
At least he looked like a man now.
Lu Heguang stared at himself in the mirror in silence for a long time. When a knock sounded at the door, he let out a soft sigh, quickly washed his face, and went to open it. Standing outside was Ferroel, who had shamelessly slept here for the night. He looked in good spirits. “Have you differentiated into an Alpha? That is good.”
“Father.” Lu Heguang hesitated for a moment but decided to calmly accept the changes in his life, addressing him as father. “Where is my dad?”
Just as he finished speaking, Lu Ze came rushing upstairs. As soon as he saw Lu Heguang, he felt the irrepressible Alpha pheromones surrounding him. He breathed a sigh of relief, stepped forward, and hugged him. “It is good that you are okay. It is good that you are okay.”
“Dad,” Lu Heguang patted his honey-colored shoulder, gesturing for him to let go. The father and son looked at each other. Lu Heguang hesitantly pointed at himself. “Since I am like this, do I still have to be a succubus?”
