Chapter 48: “My Hands are Very Important.”
In the early morning, at the Lin family manor.
A group of people wearing moving company uniforms were packing things inside the house. Furniture was being moved out piece by piece, creating a bustling atmosphere.
Standing in the center of the room was a woman wearing a wine-red wool coat, with long curly hair draped over her shoulders, looking exquisite and noble.
She stood with her hands on her hips, directing people to move things out.
And this person directing the move was none other than Lin Anran.
Lin Yishu was woken up early by the clattering noise. She was now elegantly leaning against the doorway, watching the busy crowd inside.
“Are you planning to move everything out of here?” Lin Yishu couldn’t resist teasing.
Lin Anran turned back at the sound of her voice.
Lin Yishu was casually leaning against the door, lazy and elegant. Her long hair was pinned up with a wooden hairpin. She wore a retro light-green qipao paired with a thick white shawl, looking gentle as jade, a classic beauty.
“Second Sister, go practice your dancing. I don’t have time to chat with you. I’m very busy,” Lin Anran waved her hand, shooing her away.
Lin Yishu chuckled softly: “That small villa in the east of the city was a birthday gift from your eldest sister when you turned eighteen. You absolutely adored it.”
“I wanted to stay there for two days before, and you absolutely refused. How come that person can live there? Am I, your second sister, not worthy?”
The identity of “that person” was self-evident.
“Ever since you met her, you’ve barely been home. Now you finally come back, and you’re moving things out everywhere. You’re going to empty this manor.”
Lin Anran glanced at her, ignoring her.
“Hey?” Lin Yishu stopped a moving worker and retrieved a vase from his hands: “I paid a fortune for this vase at an auction. I didn’t say you could have it. This cannot be moved.”
Lin Anran strode over and snatched the vase back: “Don’t be so petty. The vase is pretty. Jiang Yi will like it.”
Lin Yishu was speechless, finally waving her hand: “Fine, fine, take it.”
A moment later, Lin Yishu saw her beloved calligraphy and paintings being carried away: “Wait, this has to go too?”
Lin Anran briefly replied: “Jiang Yi will like it.”
Lin Yishu: “If she likes it, it has to be moved? Why don’t you move the entire Lin manor over there?”
Lin Anran glanced around: “The good stuff will be moved. As for the average stuff left behind, Jiang Yi might not like it, so we’ll leave it for now.”
Lin Yishu clucked her tongue: “Jiang Yi, Jiang Yi, Jiang Yi. She’s all you talk about.”
Lin Anran snorted, not having time to indulge her further, and turned back to direct the move.
“This can’t be taken…”
“Jiang Yi will like it.”
After a morning of moving, half of the Lin manor was empty. Finally, Lin Anran left, completely satisfied.
Looking at the departing Lin Anran, Lin Yishu shook her head with a smile.
She was making quite a fuss over a relationship, practically moving out of the house. It was as if she couldn’t stand for anyone not to know how much she liked her girlfriend.
She recalled a few days ago, when Lin Anran and Jiang Zhi had a falling out. Lin Anran came home furious, threw a tantrum, and then went back to her room.
She ended up secretly crying under the blanket.
Her eyes and nose were red from crying; she was utterly pitiful.
Lin Yishu, as the second sister, was heartbroken, coaxing and comforting her.
Unexpectedly, just a few days later, the two who had argued made up, and not only made up, but confirmed their relationship and started dating.
Young couples were always so dramatic, turning small things upside down.
Not long after Lin Anran left, Lin Han returned to the Lin manor. She wore a white suit, her long hair meticulously tied back, her face cold and emotionless.
As soon as she entered the house, she noticed something was amiss, given the large amount of missing items.
Lin Yishu explained: “Little Sister moved them out.”
Lin Han gave a cold “Mhm,” not intending to inquire further, and walked straight to the study.
Her attitude left Lin Yishu somewhat bewildered. For a moment, she couldn’t grasp what Lin Han was thinking. Lin Han had always been hard to read.
“I heard Little Sister say she’s dating Jiang Zhi. Did you know about this?” Lin Yishu spoke up, reminding her.
Lin Han’s steps toward the study didn’t pause. She seemed completely uninterested, merely tossing out three words: “I knew it.”
Lin Yishu frowned, looking at the closed study door, feeling uneasy. Hopefully, I’m overthinking it.
Lin Han had always indulged Lin Anran since she was little. Given the more than ten-year age difference between the sisters, perhaps she spoiled Lin Anran like a child.
Could it be that her stance on this relationship was the same as always: no interference, no demands, just letting Little Sister follow her heart?
Thinking this, Lin Yishu felt a surge of jealousy towards her younger sister.
Why was Lin Han always so indulgent toward Lin Anran, setting no boundaries or requirements for her, yet so strict with herself?
They were both sisters, so why the huge difference in treatment?
Lin Han had demanded she learn classical dance since childhood. Lin Yishu had put all her effort into excelling in that field.
After decades of practicing, she now stood at the forefront of the industry, yet still couldn’t satisfy Lin Han.
Because she was at the forefront, not the first.
Lin Yishu sighed, collected her scattered thoughts, and headed to the dance studio to practice.
Jiang Zhi had moved into Lin Anran’s small villa and was busy unpacking her things when she heard movement behind her.
She turned around and saw a large group of people moving in large bags, packages, and furniture.
Jiang Zhi’s gaze locked onto Lin Anran behind the crowd. She walked over to her: “Why did you move so many things here again?”
Lin Anran lifted her chin proudly: “They are all good things.”
Jiang Zhi chuckled: “Don’t make such a big deal. I don’t even know how long I’ll be staying here. You don’t need to make it so grand.”
“What do you mean?” Lin Anran looked alarmed.
“No, what I mean is…”
“I don’t care what you mean. You shamelessly begged to live here, so you have to keep living here.”
Jiang Zhi sighed helplessly: “Okay, okay, I’ll keep living here. Long-term. I’ll shamelessly stay, and you won’t be able to drive me away.”
Lin Anran snorted: “What were you doing just now?”
Jiang Zhi replied: “Packing things up. We just moved in, so there’s a lot to organize.”
“Don’t you have the cleaning staff to help you? Why are you packing yourself? Are you naturally fond of housework?”
“No, some things I need to put away myself, or I won’t be able to find them when I need them.”
“So much trouble, so annoying.”
Jiang Zhi patted her head, coaxing her: “Alright, stop criticizing me. Go amuse yourself. You don’t need to keep me company. I’ll finish the rest.”
Lin Anran loved being patted on the head and visibly brightened up. Then, she immediately switched to “little shadow” mode.
As Jiang Zhi packed, Lin Anran followed her every step of the way, offering occasional directions.
Jiang Zhi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She couldn’t drive her away, and if she said too much, Lin Anran would get angry. She had no choice but to let her follow.
“Why did you bring this ugly cotton jacket? Throw it away!” Lin Anran was highly dissatisfied.
“Glasses, where are those silver glasses I bought you? Why are you always wearing these black-rimmed ones? They’re hideous. Throw them away!”
“These shoes, ugly, throw them away.”
“Throw it away!”
“Throw it all away!”
Jiang Zhi stopped what she was doing and turned to look at her with a forced smile.
Lin Anran was slightly guilty, pouting and muttering under her breath: “Fine, don’t throw it away. It’s not a big deal. Hmph.”
As she spoke, she uncomfortably scratched her hand. For the past few days, her hand had felt itchy and a bit painful.
Jiang Zhi noticed her action. Her fingernails, decorated with sharp nail art, left several red marks on the back of her hand with just a light scratch.
Jiang Zhi grabbed her hand, stopping her from scratching: “Your hand is all scratched up. What’s wrong? Is it very itchy?”
Lin Anran tried to pull her hand back to continue scratching.
“Stop moving around.” Jiang Zhi pulled her hand closer and examined it carefully.
“Your fingers look a bit swollen. Is it an allergy?”
“I don’t know, it’s itchy.”
Lin Anran wanted to continue scratching, but Jiang Zhi glared at her: “Behave. No more scratching. You’ll break the skin.”
Lin Anran looked wronged, puffing out her cheeks.
Half an hour later.
“It’s not an allergy, it’s frostbite. Chilblains have started to appear,” the private doctor concluded after examination: “Have you been outdoors for a long time recently? You must keep your hands warm, or you’re susceptible to chilblains.”
Jiang Zhi recalled Lin Anran’s hand in the muddy water under the bridge a few days ago, searching for the wristband. Although she didn’t know how long she searched, it was likely then that her hands were damaged by the cold.
Jiang Zhi felt annoyed that she hadn’t noticed sooner.
The doctor prescribed a chilblain cream. Jiang Zhi held Lin Anran’s hand, gently and patiently applying the cream.
Lin Anran was extremely uncooperative: “I’m not putting that on. It’s sticky and uncomfortable on my hands. I don’t like it.”
Lin Anran pulled her hand away again and immediately grabbed a tissue to wipe off the cream that had just been applied.
Jiang Zhi didn’t stop her, calmly saying: “Do you know that frostbite is irreversible?”
Lin Anran paused while wiping her fingers with the tissue, looking at her blankly.
“Irreversible means that frostbite will make your fingers swell up. Even after the frostbite heals, your fingers won’t return to their original shape. They’ll be chubby,” Jiang Zhi explained in simple terms, exaggerating slightly to scare her.
Lin Anran looked at her hands, then at Jiang Zhi, looking shocked.
“Are you saying my hands will be disfigured?”
“They will be if you don’t use this chilblain cream!”
“You’re trying to scare me, aren’t you?”
“If you don’t believe me, call the doctor back and ask the professional if I’m trying to scare you.”
Lin Anran quickly extended her hand to Jiang Zhi: “Quick, quick, quick, apply the medicine!”
Jiang Zhi was amused by her reaction.
“Stop laughing! Hurry up and apply it! It won’t do if my hands don’t look good. In our circle, your hands have to be attractive, or you’ll face discrimination,” Lin Anran pouted.
“Our circle?” Jiang Zhi asked, confused.
“The lesbian circle,” Lin Anran said.
Jiang Zhi paused, then burst out laughing, her shoulders shaking.
“What are you laughing at? Hurry up and apply the medicine! My hands are very important.” The words slipped out. After saying them, she felt something was wrong and quickly looked up at Jiang Zhi.
“I’m applying it, right now.” Jiang Zhi picked up the cream and gently began applying it.
Lin Anran’s expression was slightly unnatural, her ears tinged pink because of the “My hands are very important” comment that had come out accidentally.
She secretly watched Jiang Zhi’s expression. Jiang Zhi didn’t seem to notice anything. Lin Anran breathed a sigh of relief. Good thing…
She absolutely couldn’t let Jiang Zhi know that she had searched for a lot of embarrassing, heart-fluttering content online.
“I’m going to remove my nail art soon,” Lin Anran suddenly said out of the blue.
“Huh?” Jiang Zhi was surprised: “Why remove it? Don’t you like it? Or are you getting new nail art? Are you worried the nail art will affect the frostbite recovery? Don’t worry, there’s no connection.”
Lin Anran’s small eyes darted around. She didn’t speak, lost in thought.
