Chapter 32: “A Scene of Spring, Unforgettable.”
Lying in the all-pink room, Jiang Yi felt extremely unaccustomed.
It was clearly her own home, yet when she woke up in the morning, she felt a sense of strangeness, almost thinking she had time-traveled… to a pink castle where a princess lived.
But no matter how much the decor resembled a princess’s room, the cramped space still exposed its incongruity; after all, what princess’s room would be less than thirty square meters?
She rubbed her sleepy eyes and stretched. A sharp sound of kicking the door came, startling Jiang Yi, who immediately pulled her stretch back.
With that “bang-bang-bang” noise that sounded like the door was about to be smashed down, Jiang Yi didn’t need to confirm who was outside; she could immediately identify Lin Anran.
Lin Anran had a key, but she found using it troublesome, so she always “knocked” on the door with kicks.
The bottom of the door, which was initially slightly concave, was now deeply indented.
Jiang Yi hadn’t bothered to fix the door. If she fixed it, it would just be kicked and damaged the next day. It was better to leave it alone and deal with fixing it when she moved out someday.
However, with this full-house pink and tender decor, Jiang Yi was actually a little reluctant to move anymore.
As soon as she opened the door, the impatient person outside charged in. Jiang Yi naturally stepped aside. If she hadn’t, she would have definitely been knocked off balance.
Jiang Yi had already developed a wealth of experience dealing with this.
“It takes you forever to open the door, dawdling, you’re so slow.” After a week of separation, there was no greeting or catching up, just fierce scolding right off the bat.
Jiang Yi was used to it. She leaned against the doorframe, arms folded, quietly watching the person who rushed into the room and immediately started checking everything.
She was touching here and looking there.
Jiang Yi initially thought she was admiring the pink decor she had arbitrarily arranged, but upon closer observation, she realized she wasn’t.
She wasn’t admiring the decor; she was seriously inspecting.
Jiang Yi initially didn’t understand why she inspected every time she returned, but now she vaguely understood.
The little cat was patrolling her territory, checking if her domain had been infringed upon by others or other objects.
Sure enough, a moment later, Lin Anran rushed out of the bathroom holding a toothbrush, her face filled with anger: “Why is there an extra toothbrush? Whose is it?!”
Jiang Yi calmly explained: “I got a new toothbrush. I haven’t had time to throw the old one away yet.”
Lin Anran’s bristling fur smoothed down. She threw the toothbrush onto the table, scoffed, and continued her rigorous inspection.
Five minutes later, the inspection was complete.
She nodded with satisfaction and finally deigned to look at Jiang Yi. After scanning her up and down, what she said was naturally not kind: “Didn’t I throw away all your clothes? Where did this ugly nightgown come from? Throw it away immediately and put on the clothes I bought you.”
Jiang Yi: “Can’t you speak nicely after a week of not seeing each other?”
Lin Anran tilted her head: “Speak nicely? Say ‘Long time no see’ to you? That sounds sick. Cut out your sentimental nonsense.”
Jiang Yi: “…”
“Jiang Yi, you didn’t miss me, did you? Heh, how pathetic. It’s only been a week since we separated. Don’t be so useless. You need to learn to be more independent.”
Jiang Yi: “…”
Jiang Yi was tired of hearing her weird remarks. She turned to go back to the room to change; she needed to get ready for work.
Jiang Yi went into the room, and Lin Anran followed.
“Are you sure you want to follow?” Jiang Yi looked back at her.
“Who’s following you?” Lin Anran frowned: “Don’t think too much.”
Jiang Yi shrugged, letting her be. She walked to the wardrobe, picked out a shirt from the pile of unfamiliar new clothes, threw it on the bed, and looked down to unbutton her nightgown.
The third button was undone, exposing her pale collarbone. Lin Anran’s gaze fixed. Certain unspeakable dreams overlapped with the current reality.
It caused a momentary blur, making it difficult to distinguish between dream and reality.
“What… are you doing?” Lin Anran asked in a husky voice.
“I’m changing clothes,” Jiang Yi said openly.
“I’m here, and you’re changing clothes? You’re taking off your clothes in front of me?” Lin Anran’s face flushed, and her tone was panicked: “Shameless! Exhibitionist!”
After cursing, she left, slamming the door shut with a loud “bang.”
Jiang Yi gritted her teeth. This person really was… she reminded her not to follow her if she was going to change, but she wouldn’t listen. Then, halfway through changing, she cursed her. She was really fed up with her.
But, did she just blush… or did she see wrong?
Jiang Yi shook her head, gathering her thoughts, and continued changing.
The collar of the shirt had embroidered patterns. The exquisite needlework made Jiang Yi’s demeanor appear even more tranquil.
When she finished changing and came out, she saw Lin Anran sitting on the sofa playing with her phone.
Lin Anran looked up, their eyes meeting.
Lin Anran had seen this shirt while shopping and thought it would suit Jiang Yi well, so she bought it immediately. Sure enough, it did suit her, accentuating her calm and gentle disposition.
Lin Anran showed her disdain: “It’s very ordinary. Not much.”
Jiang Yi looked down at herself: “Ordinary? Didn’t you buy this for me? And throw away all my other clothes?”
Lin Anran: “This one is ordinary. Your previous ones were ugly, unsophisticated!”
Jiang Yi chuckled softly. It wasn’t that exaggerated; at most, her previous clothes were just too plain.
“You have to wear the clothes I bought you from now on, understand?”
“Seriously? I shouldn’t call you Little Kitten Lin anymore, I should call you Bossy Lin. You even have to manage what clothes I wear.”
“Stop talking nonsense. I will coordinate your outfits for you every day. Just wear what I put out. Stop dressing like an unsophisticated bumpkin every day; it’s hideous.”
Jiang Yi nodded: “Alright, alright. I’ll listen to you. I’ll listen to everything you say.”
Lin Anran raised an eyebrow in satisfaction: “That’s more like it.”
Jiang Yi sat on the sofa, checking the time on her phone occasionally, and glancing at the direction of the bathroom sometimes.
An hour had passed since Lin Anran went in to shower. That was a bit too long.
Could she have passed out inside?
Thinking this, Jiang Yi got up, walked outside the bathroom, and knocked on the door.
“Why haven’t you finished yet?”
When she received no response, Jiang Yi’s brow furrowed in worry. She leaned closer to hear if there was any movement inside.
“Stop rushing me. Go away.”
Jiang Yi was speechless, but still remembered to warn her: “It’s cold, and I don’t have heating here. Don’t shower for too long, or you’ll catch a cold.”
Lin Anran replied with one word: “Scram.”
Jiang Yi shook her head. Just as she was about to leave, she heard a “whoosh,” and the bathroom door opened.
A mist of hot air, along with the sweet scent of peach body wash, wafted out.
Lin Anran emerged wrapped in a towel, her shoulders bare, skin flushed pink. The tightly wrapped towel revealed her delicate figure.
Jiang Yi’s gaze froze, her throat immediately dry. She unconsciously swallowed, breathing in only the scent of peach body wash.
Lin Anran’s bright, watery eyes looked over. Her features were exquisite, and water droplets still trickled from her hair, dropping onto her shoulder, sliding along her collarbone, and finally disappearing into the towel, inviting imagination.
This wasn’t the first time Lin Anran had showered here, nor the first time Jiang Yi had seen her post-bath, but why today…
Jiang Yi awkwardly shifted her gaze away.
Lin Anran pretended to casually brush her wet hair back, but in reality, she was constantly observing Jiang Yi’s reaction.
The body wash wasn’t that fragrant. She had deliberately sprayed perfume. The towel, seemingly casually wrapped, was actually done with great care. She had spent an hour studying in there to emerge in the most perfect state, all for the purpose of…
Lin Anran’s face was flushed pink, whether from showering for too long or from the shy excitement of deliberately showing off.
However, Lin Anran’s peacock-display behavior didn’t last long, because Jiang Yi took off her jacket and wrapped it around her.
While bundling her up tightly, she said: “Why did you come out dressed like that? Where did you buy that towel? Why is there so little fabric? Was it skimped on? Be careful not to catch a cold.”
Lin Anran was a bit dazed. She was stunned for several seconds, looking down at the jacket and then up at the person in front of her.
When she realized what happened, she glared: “Are you sick? Who told you to put this ugly jacket on me? It got dirty from you right after I finished showering.”
Lin Anran tried to take off the jacket, but Jiang Yi held her hands, stopping her.
She smacked Jiang Yi’s hand away, but Jiang Yi stubbornly held her, refusing to let the jacket come off.
The scene quickly became a struggle: Lin Anran trying to take off the jacket, and Jiang Yi refusing. In the pulling and blocking, the jacket was eventually ripped off by Lin Anran’s forceful tugging.
But…
The already loose towel was yanked off along with it.
The air was silent for a few seconds.
Jiang Yi’s pupils contracted, and her heart stopped beating. Everything in her sight was a scene of Spring, unforgettable.
She frantically turned around.
Unable to see the scene, her hearing became incredibly sharp. The rustling sound of clothes being put on came from behind her.
Jiang Yi coughed lightly, trying to keep her voice steady: “Are you dressed?”
Lin Anran hummed in response.
Jiang Yi bit her lip, turned back around, and sighed in relief because Lin Anran was now fully dressed.
The jacket she had refused to wear was now on her body, concealing her completely.
“Ahem, I’m going to blow dry my hair,” Lin Anran dared not look at her.
“Okay, go ahead. The hairdryer is over there,” Jiang Yi pointed in a direction, equally afraid to make eye contact.
The atmosphere was strange.
The whirring sound of the hairdryer echoed in the small living room, temporarily masking the faint ambiguity in the air.
Late at night, Jiang Yi lay on the sofa, unable to fall asleep.
She was suffering from insomnia.
She had never had insomnia before, even when she slept uncomfortably curled up on the small sofa. Now, on the soft, comfortable, and spacious long sofa, she was insomniac, unable to sleep no matter what.
When she closed her eyes, she saw that one scene. When she kept her eyes open, staring at the dark ceiling, it was still that one scene.
She touched her cheek; it was hot.
This was very bad. Lin Anran was so innocent, with a childlike personality. This was inappropriate for her, too inappropriate. It felt a bit indecent.
She turned over, poured a cup of water, and tilted her head back, drinking all the water down in one gulp.
The icy water rushed down her throat, cold and stimulating, but even so, the heat on her cheeks did not dissipate.
Jiang Yi pressed the glass against her cheek to cool down, but the effect was minimal.
Her gaze involuntarily drifted toward the bedroom door.
What was Lin Anran doing? Was she asleep? The person who always slept instantly and carelessly was probably already fast asleep by now.
Jiang Yi shook her head, took a deep breath, poured another large glass of cold water, and drank it, trying to use this method to cool down her restless heart.
