Chapter 21: “I Won’t Bite Anyone Else, Only You.”
Goodbye
“Why is your face getting redder and hotter? You must be allergic to the soy milk,”
Jiang Zhi cupped her face with both hands, her worry deepening: “Do you feel uncomfortable? No, this looks quite serious. We need to go to the hospital and get it checked out.”
Jiang Zhi was worried about her, but Lin Anran was completely consumed by one thought…
Should I bite her? Will she get angry if I bite her?
Jiang Yi is such a miser. She definitely won’t allow me to bite her. She’ll definitely get angry, and she’s scary when she’s angry.
Lin Anran took a deep breath, her gaze difficultly moving away from Jiang Zhi’s lips, forcefully controlling her inner impulse.
So frustrating.
I still want to bite her.
Lin Anran abruptly grabbed Jiang Zhi’s hand and, without a word, bit down hard.
“Hiss.”
Jiang Zhi gasped in pain.
She tried to pull her hand back, but Lin Anran kept biting firmly.
“No, ah, that hurts! What are you doing? If you’re allergic, let’s go to the hospital. Why are you biting me?!”
“Let go, let go! Let go right now!”
She couldn’t bite her lips, so biting her hand instead seemed like a suitable substitute.
Lin Anran found herself a replacement, trying to alleviate her inner anxiety.
Jiang Zhi cried out in pain, but Lin Anran ignored it. She bit for a good while, only letting go when she was satisfied.
Once her hand was free, Jiang Zhi quickly backed up a meter, afraid the person would bite her again.
She looked down at the back of her hand, which had a row of deep teeth marks. It was bleeding.
Jiang Zhi was both annoyed and helpless: “You really are a cat, biting so hard.”
Lin Anran wiped her mouth: “Your hand is so dirty. Pleh, pleh, pleh.”
Jiang Zhi: “…”
I got bitten, and now she’s the one who feels wronged…
She grabbed a napkin from the table and pressed it onto the wound, staining a small part of the paper red.
While covering her injured hand, she didn’t forget to observe Lin Anran.
Her face was no longer red. Did biting someone cure her allergy?
Lin Anran looked at the back of Jiang Zhi’s hand, then at Jiang Zhi. She felt a little guilty, but not much. She immediately spoke: “You ugly creature, you’re annoying to look at. Go away.”
After insulting her, she tossed her head, covered her heart, and walked out. Her heart was still beating so fast. No, she needed to go out and calm down.
Before leaving the door, she glanced at the boss sitting at the cash register playing with his phone.
“Shave your beard. That black beard makes you look like a gorilla. An outsider might think you escaped from the zoo.”
After saying that, she left, leaving behind only a cold and aloof back view.
The boss was dumbfounded, unconsciously touching his own beard.
Jiang Zhi felt extremely embarrassed, clasping her hands together to apologize for her: “I’m so sorry, so sorry. Please don’t take it to heart.”
By the time Jiang Zhi emerged from the noodle shop, Lin Anran was nowhere to be seen.
“She bites someone and curses someone out, then runs away without a word. She’s happy, but where did she run off to? She ran quite fast.” Jiang Zhi looked around. The street was quiet late at night, and there was no one around.
Just as she was about to take out her phone to call Lin Anran, she spotted a small figure around the corner.
Jiang Zhi sighed and walked closer to her.
Lin Anran stood under a tree, her back to Jiang Zhi, rubbing her chest while muttering to herself.
What was she doing? Chanting a spell? Could drinking soy milk really have damaged her brain?
Jiang Zhi was about to get closer to hear what she was muttering, but her foot stepped on a plastic bag, making a sound.
The person under the tree spun around, looking at Jiang Zhi with vigilance.
Jiang Zhi held up her bitten hand: “You’re the one who bit me, alright? How can you still look like the victim?”
Lin Anran slowly lowered the hand covering her chest, her chin slightly raised: “I told you I wasn’t allergic. You insisted on asking and asking. Being bitten serves you right.”
Jiang Zhi was both annoyed and amused: “Right, right, right. I shouldn’t care about you. Being bitten by you serves me right.”
Lin Anran pouted and mumbled: “It is.”
Jiang Zhi took a step forward. Lin Anran immediately backed up in alarm: “What are you doing? Don’t come over. Don’t get too close to me.”
Jiang Zhi stopped, feeling helpless: “Fine, I won’t argue about why you bit me. It’s late. Send me home. I need to go home and sleep.”
Lin Anran: “Why should I send you home?”
“I don’t have a car. If you don’t send me back, how do you expect me to get home?”
“What does that have to do with me? I’m not sending you. Don’t even think about it. Walk back yourself, or take a taxi, whatever you want. I absolutely won’t send you.”
She sounded very certain, firmly refusing.
Five minutes later, Lin Anran and Jiang Zhi were sitting in the back seat of the car, maintaining a certain distance, on the way to send Jiang Zhi home.
Jiang Zhi looked at the space between them, utterly perplexed. What kind of antics was the young lady up to now? Was she poisonous? Could getting close to her be toxic?
Forget it, forget it. Let her be. Her thought process was always difficult to understand. She always loved doing strange, inexplicable things that others couldn’t comprehend—like biting her just now.
It really hurt. Jiang Zhi examined the wound on the back of her hand. She would probably need to put medicine on it when she got home. The bite was truly vicious.
Lin Anran peeked at her from the corner of her eye.
After a long time, she asked, feigning casualness: “Does it hurt a lot?”
Jiang Zhi turned her head to look at her: “It drew blood. What do you think?”
Lin Anran suddenly stretched her hand out in front of Jiang Zhi.
Jiang Zhi was startled by the sudden hand, instinctively shrinking back.
Lin Anran: “You can bite me back, I guess.”
Jiang Zhi waved her hand away: “Enough. I don’t have a hobby of biting people like you.”
“What do you mean, a hobby? I don’t bite anyone else.”
“The way you say that—you don’t bite anyone else, just me?”
Lin Anran pulled her hand back: “I offered you a chance to bite me back, and you didn’t. So don’t bring this up again. Don’t be such a miser.”
Jiang Zhi’s forehead was covered in black lines. She bites someone and still manages to rationalize it, and now I can’t even hold her accountable.
Half an hour later, the car arrived at the old, run-down residential area where Jiang Zhi lived.
“I’m leaving then.” Jiang Zhi unbuckled her seatbelt and turned to push the door open to get out.
The car door had just opened a crack when her wrist was grabbed.
Jiang Zhi stopped pushing the door and looked back.
“Hmm?” Jiang Zhi asked: “Something else?”
Lin Anran’s expression was blank. Grabbing her wrist was almost involuntary; she herself didn’t know why she had pulled her back just now.
She quickly withdrew her hand, clearing her throat: “Nothing. Get lost.”
Jiang Zhi patiently corrected her: “In this situation, we usually say ‘goodbye,’ not ‘get lost.'”
Lin Anran said impatiently: “Got it. Goodbye, get lost.”
Jiang Zhi: “…”
Fine, get lost.
When Jiang Zhi actually left, Lin Anran leaned against the car window, watching the departing figure longingly.
Driver: “Third Miss, shall we head back now?”
Lin Anran didn’t speak, reluctantly watching the direction Jiang Zhi had walked. She didn’t want to look away, even though Jiang Zhi’s figure was gone, leaving only darkness.
After watching for a full five minutes, she sat up, disappointed, and told the driver: “Let’s go back.”
The car started moving.
Just then, two “thumps” came from the side—someone was lightly tapping on the car window.
Lin Anran turned her head and saw a familiar, clean face.
Her eyes instantly lit up. She quickly rolled down the window: “Jiang Yi, why did you come back?”
Jiang Zhi smiled faintly: “I was so busy teaching you to say goodbye that I forgot to say it myself. I came back specifically to make up for it.”
When Lin Anran was taken away by her sister before, Jiang Zhi thought they would never see each other again. At the time, they didn’t even have a chance to say a proper goodbye.
She regretted it for a long time, but thankfully, Lin Anran was back, and she had the chance to say that goodbye now.
Lin Anran: “What? You came back just to say goodbye?”
“Yes, just to say goodbye,” Jiang Zhi waved at her: “Goodbye.”
Lin Anran scoffed. On the surface, she was nonchalant, but deep down, a honey-like sweetness spread through her.
Jiang Zhi: “Alright, I’m leaving.”
“Wait a minute.” Lin Anran quickly called out to her.
Just when Jiang Zhi thought she was going to wave and say goodbye, Lin Anran only waved her hand dismissively and haughtily uttered two words: “Get lost, Jiang Yi.”
