Chapter 17: “Did I Get Heart Disease?”
The person who had been blankly agreeing the second before, abruptly pushed Jiang Zhi away the next, and snapped: “Why are you standing so close to me? Who allowed you to get this close? Go away.”
Jiang Zhi, caught off guard, stumbled and nearly fell.
Lin Anran didn’t care if she almost fell. After pushing her, she turned around, her back to Jiang Zhi, and placed her hand over her heart.
Why is it beating so fast? That’s weird. Did I get heart disease? My heart was fine during the last physical exam…
“You have quite the strength. You almost pushed me three miles away,” Jiang Zhi looked at her, exasperated and amused:
“I’m not going to coax you anymore. If you plan to keep being angry, go ahead and be angry. I have to go back to the convenience store. I can’t talk to you for too long during work hours.”
With that, she turned and walked back, regardless of Lin Anran’s reaction.
She silently counted. Only three seconds.
“Why are you walking so fast?”
Three seconds later, the person behind her jogged up.
Jiang Zhi turned her head to look at the person catching up beside her and smiled. It truly only took three seconds every time.
“What are you looking at? Stop looking.” Lin Anran said fiercely.
Lin Anran didn’t know why, but her heart sped up when Jiang Zhi got close, and it also sped up when Jiang Zhi looked at her. This was very bad. Lin Anran didn’t like this strange feeling.
Therefore, the conclusion was: Jiang Zhi was not allowed to get close, and not allowed to look at her!
Jiang Zhi was used to her unreasonable behavior, so she didn’t mind her abnormality and walked straight into the convenience store.
Before entering, she instructed Lin Anran: “Just wait outside. Don’t come in, so you don’t pick a fight with Xiao Man again. I can get off work as soon as I finish the handover. You won’t have to wait long.”
“Who’s picking a fight with her?” Lin Anran scoffed: “Hurry up. Don’t dilly-dally inside for ages. My time is precious.”
Jiang Zhi looked at her helplessly, finally shaking her head and going inside.
Jiang Zhi and Xiao Man were handing over the accounts at the cash register when Jiang Zhi looked up and saw Lin Anran entering.
Lin Anran didn’t come to the cash register. Instead, she walked back and forth in front of the shelves, seemingly doing nothing in particular.
Jiang Zhi didn’t pay much attention and continued the handover.
Just as she was focused, she heard a “plop.”
A shopping basket was slammed onto the counter, completely full of various snacks, mostly instant noodles of different flavors and coffee of various brands.
So much! She won’t finish all this before it spoils…
Lin Anran: “Check me out. Calculate the commission for your account.”
Jiang Zhi paused: “This is a convenience store. I get a fixed salary; there’s no commission.”
Lin Anran’s expression froze, clearly hitting a blind spot in her knowledge.
But it didn’t stop her from cursing: “Your boss doesn’t even give you a commission? He’s a miser like you. You shouldn’t work here. Quit.”
Hearing this, Jiang Zhi quickly glanced at the door.
Thankfully, the boss wasn’t here. If the boss had happened to hear that, she might actually have to quit.
Jiang Zhi gave her a warning look: “Don’t talk nonsense.”
Lin Anran grumbled: “Fine, hurry up and check me out. You’re so slow.”
She tossed her card onto the counter.
Jiang Zhi raised an eyebrow at the card on the table. She’s back home and has money; her demeanor is different now.
She wanted to advise her not to buy so much, as there was still plenty at home, but after thinking it over, she didn’t bother. She didn’t want to risk the young lady throwing a tantrum again. She was just a restless soul.
After checking out, it took two large shopping bags to fit everything.
Lin Anran wouldn’t carry anything. She left as soon as she swiped the card, leaving Jiang Zhi to carry the shopping bags with both hands, straining her arms.
“Are you hungry?” Lin Anran asked casually, her hands empty.
“No, I’m not hungry,” Jiang Zhi said, her hands aching from the weight of the two bags.
Does this girl not see me? Can’t she give me a hand? Can’t she see it’s too heavy for me to carry? Jiang Zhi grumbled internally.
Lin Anran glanced at her: “Not hungry?”
Jiang Zhi understood and cleverly said: “Hungry, I’m hungry, I’m very hungry.”
Hearing this, Lin Anran was satisfied: “Since you’re hungry, let me treat you to dinner.”
“Eat this?” Jiang Zhi held up one of the shopping bags full of instant noodles.
“Do you think I’m as stingy as you? Treating someone to dinner by feeding them this garbage,” Lin Anran scoffed dismissively.
Jiang Zhi dragged out her “Oh” sound: “Oh~ I see. Our Miss Lin intends to treat me to a feast.”
Lin Anran raised an eyebrow: “Naturally.”
As she spoke, a black, extended luxury car pulled up beside them.
The driver got out, hurried to open the door, and respectfully invited Lin Anran to get in.
After Lin Anran got in, Jiang Zhi didn’t immediately follow. Lin Anran glanced around and saw Jiang Zhi carrying the two shopping bags, circling the car and occasionally exclaiming in awe.
Jiang Zhi didn’t know much about luxury cars, but the exterior of this car looked very expensive. It was the kind you only saw in movies. Seeing it in real life was quite novel.
She looked completely unsophisticated.
Lin Anran lowered the window, leaned out, and said testily: “Get in quickly. Stop circling the car like a country bumpkin. It’s embarrassing.”
Jiang Zhi was unfazed: “Embarrassing who? There’s no one else here. What’s wrong with looking?”
No one else?
Lin Anran’s expression slightly paused. Was she no one?
Her mood suddenly brightened. She no longer found Jiang Zhi to be a bumpkin: “Fine, you can keep looking at this car if you want. I can wait for you. If you want to see other cars, I can take you to my garage too.”
Jiang Zhi: “No thanks. So you don’t call me a bumpkin again.”
Lin Anran: “You already are!”
The driver stepped forward and took the shopping bags from her hands.
Jiang Zhi nodded: “Thank you.”
Driver: “You’re welcome. It’s my duty.”
“Why are you still dawdling? Get in quickly, it’s annoying,” Lin Anran’s irritable and impatient voice called out.
“Coming, coming. Look how anxious you are.” Jiang Zhi ducked into the car.
She didn’t realize until she got in that the entire interior of the car was pink.
It was pink and tender, perfectly matching Lin Anran’s taste.
The car started to move forward. Jiang Zhi noticed that other cars on the road kept an exaggerated distance from this car, daring not to get too close.
It seemed this car was extraordinarily expensive. Even a minor scratch would likely lead to bankruptcy for the responsible party.
“So this is what it feels like to ride in a luxury car,” Jiang Zhi patted the seat cushion.
“Bumpkin.”
“Did I get another nickname?”
“That’s not new. You’ve always had that nickname.”
“Oh, right, let me show you something good.” With that, Lin Anran unbuckled her seatbelt and darted forward, preparing to retrieve the “good thing.”
The driver, who was focused on driving, was startled by her sudden movement and nearly slammed on the brakes.
Seeing this, Jiang Zhi quickly pulled the little sovereign back: “What are you doing? Darting forward without a word.”
“I have something to show you. I put it in the front.” Lin Anran still wanted to lunge forward.
“Stay put. What could be so important that you have to find it right now? Can’t you see the driver is driving? If you suddenly jump forward like that, you’ll scare him. What if the driver gets nervous and loses control of the steering wheel and causes an accident?”
“Do you have any sense of danger? Didn’t I tell you before not to make dangerous moves when someone is driving? Did you not listen at all?”
How dangerous is that?
Jiang Zhi’s face tightened, her expression very serious as she spoke.
Lin Anran had intentionally swayed and caused trouble on the scooter before. Jiang Zhi had sternly corrected her once, but it seemed the girl hadn’t taken it to heart at all.
Lin Anran instinctively wanted to talk back, but saw that Jiang Zhi seemed genuinely angry…
Lin Anran pouted, falling silent, looking utterly wronged.
The driver glanced at the situation in the back through the rearview mirror and was deeply surprised.
He had been Lin Anran’s driver for over ten years and knew exactly what kind of person the third young lady was—a person who couldn’t be told off or controlled by anyone.
How was she meekly accepting a lecture right now?
This was truly rare. The driver couldn’t help but take a second look.
