- Did Puppy Pick Up Fluffy Things on the Livestream Today?
- Chapter 8 - Do Not Touch the Hair!
After having enough to eat and drink, Dong Mo prepared to carry out today’s “struggle for survival” mission.
Taking stock of everything broken and tattered in the cave, he realized he was still missing many things to gather the basic materials needed to support himself. Now motivated, he planned to set out again.
Thinking of the kitten still covered in medicinal herbs, he knew it was in a critical recovery period and not convenient to carry along. He looked around the cave, wondering how to find a suitable hiding spot for the little guy. After all, it would be a huge loss if some other animal “stole his home” while he was away.
While deep in thought, he happened to miss a brief “commotion” in the livestream chat.
Looking left and right, Dong Mo finally chose another pile of messy, irregular rubble on the left side of the stone bed. He sketched a rough plan in his mind and walked over.
First, he carefully checked that the edges of the stones were not too sharp. Then, he picked up the large pieces to build an outer ring and layered the smaller ones in the center, forming a circular stone nest.
Carefully lifting the kitten along with the hemp sack from the bed, he placed it gently in the center of the nest. Finally, he brought a larger, flatter stone slab from the cave entrance and propped it up across the top. This effectively hid the kitten’s presence while still allowing space for fresh air.
Looking down at the sleeping little guy in the nest, Dong Mo reached out to stroke its small head. Hearing the kitten let out a comfortable “purring” sound, he stood up reluctantly.
“What do you think? This nest is pretty good, right? This way, I do not have to worry about the kitten being in danger or”
Dong Mo had originally intended to brag to the viewers about his ingenuity, but he stopped mid-sentence the moment he glanced at the livestream screen.
Without him noticing, the number of people in his livestream had suddenly exceeded two thousand! And it was still rising!
In an instant, only one thought flashed through his mind: Good heavens, am I about to go viral?!
After a brief moment of being dazed, Dong Mo quickly scrolled up through the incredibly lively chat to see what had happened.
[Yue Xun next door said he does not know Dong Mo.]
[Momo already said he does not know him; Yue Xun is several years older than Momo, right?]
[Ugh, Yue Xun said that in the legends of the Moon Mountain Tribe, a curled tail brings misfortune to the tribe, which is why Dong Mo was kicked out. He told everyone not to listen to his nonsense.]
[? What nonsense did Momo say? He has not said anything at all.]
[Everyone, please stop going to Yue Xun’s livestream to spam Momo’s name. We are all here to see fluffies; why bring the bad habits of those big streamers to Momo? It is not easy to find someone in the beastman section actually doing a survival stream.]
[So annoying. I have disliked that beastman Yue Xun for a long time. He is full of “big beastman chauvinism” and often looks down on sub-beastmen in his speech.]
[We did not go to his stream to mention Momo; he was the one who started his broadcast by saying “everyone should be cautious about following the little black dog next door.”]
After reading for a long time and connecting the keywords from the audience, Dong Mo understood. This big streamer, Yue Xun, had started his broadcast early specifically to “warn” his fans about him?
What do you mean a curled tail brings misfortune!
Dong Mo pursed his lips, the corners of his dog eyes slanting upward. His cute little face was filled with displeasure. Fortunately, his audience had not been led astray; instead, even more onlookers were being drawn in.
Excitement is something people like to flock to, no matter what world they are in.
Dong Mo was not angry. He shrugged his shoulders, pretending not to care. “How did so many big brothers and sisters enter while I was making the stone nest for the kitten?”
“First of all, welcome everyone to my livestream! My name is Dong Mo. If you are interested, please hit the follow button!”
“The fact that my tail is curled is an unchangeable reality, but I will prove that it represents luck, not misfortune.”
He chose not to respond directly to Yue Xun’s statement. Instead, he just friendly welcomed the new viewers and calmly stated the facts about his tail.
After speaking, he stopped looking at the chat. He tucked two pointed stones into his beast-skin clothes and walked out of the cave. Sometimes, a vague answer is the most effective response to baseless slander. Besides, surviving on his own was currently the top priority.
[Momo might be a silly puppy, but he is broad-minded!]
[Go Momo! I believe in you!]
[Honestly, those big streamers in the beastman section are just like those in other sections; they cannot stand it when a newcomer gets popular.]
[Well, regardless, their streams do have “selling points.”]
[What selling points are you talking about? Those “indescribable” scenes? I have wanted to say this for a long time; I do not know when it started, but they just sit there shirtless every day and chat with fans. They are too lazy to even shift into their beast forms.]
[And those who have private contact with fans from other planets]
Dong Mo paid no attention to the discussion in the chat. He followed the slope where the Great-Toothed Beast had fallen.
Today, another layer of snow had melted, making walking even easier. Along the way, he found several vines in the snow that were frozen stiff but barely usable. Picking up thick branches scattered on the ground, Dong Mo carefully tied them together with the vines and carried them on his back.
The further down he went, the steeper the slope became. He even found a withered tree trunk lying in the middle of the path, broken by an impact. Dong Mo’s eyes lit up at the sight of this thick, hard trunk.
With this trunk, he could not only use it for fuel but also cut it to make many handmade containers!
He happily reached out to grab the fork at the top to drag it away.
On the first try, the trunk did not budge.
On the second try, Dong Mo’s face turned bright red with effort, but the trunk did not budge.
On the third try, Dong Mo’s knees were bent and trembling, but the trunk did not budge.
He let go of his grip, his brows furrowed tightly. “What? Is it really this heavy?”
He could not help but give it a kick. A numb vibration traveled from the sole of his foot all the way to the top of his head.
Fine. Great. It was frozen solid, it was truly heavy, and it made his skull tingle.
Scratching his head, Dong Mo thought for a moment. “No, I will go look for meat first. I will come back and figure out a way to drag it back with vines later.”
“Nothing is impossible in this world, as long as you are willing to give up!”
Dong Mo rubbed his red and aching palms and decided to abandon the tree for now, turning to continue downward to find meat.
Hearing his mutterings, the atmosphere in the livestream suddenly became cheerful.
[I am going to die laughing! What do you mean “as long as you are willing to give up” hahahahaha!]
[Momo could not even lift the branches just now!]
[Why not try shifting into a puppy?]
[Do you want to see a half-meter-tall chubby puppy get crushed under a tree trunk?]
After walking a few more steps, he vaguely heard rustling sounds and many strange cries. Given his previous painful experience, Dong Mo stopped instantly. He quickly hid behind another tree trunk, poking half of his small head out to look through the gaps in the branches.
In the flat transition zone of the hillside, the carcass of the Great-Toothed Beast lay with its belly ripped open. Five or six crows, comparable in size to his puppy form, were jumping around nearby. These birds had long, sharp beaks, and their golden claws looked terrifying. With a single swipe at the frozen carcass, they could tear away a large chunk of meat. They were squawking and arguing while enjoying the feast, occasionally letting out high-pitched cries as if showing off their power.
Dong Mo’s small Adam’s apple bobbed up and down. Land animals could not beat winged ones, especially a small dog like him. If he went up there, he would probably become a free lunch. Furthermore, these crows were in a flock.
Thinking it over, the puppy’s agility radar told him he could not stay here for long. If he could not find meat, he could look elsewhere, but if he actually faced these giant crows, it would not be worth it.
Dong Mo carefully backed away, preparing to leave and return the way he came. Just as he turned around and was about to bolt back up the slope.
“Gah!”
“Whoosh!”
First, a hoarse, unpleasant cry rang in his ears. Immediately after, he felt the hair on top of his head being violently “yanked.”
The next second, his scalp stung with pain.
Dong Mo was stunned. He turned his head to see that a crow had discovered him long ago and had ambushed him from behind, grabbing his hair.
After a brief moment of being dazed, he saw several strands of broken black hair slowly falling before his eyes. Dong Mo’s brain was instantly filled with rage.
His hair! His most precious hair! The hair he had maintained by eating black sesame pills every day before transmigrating!
That damned bird actually dared to grab his hair!
Who knows where the motivation came from, but in that instant, he forgot his fear of the giant birds. Dong Mo suddenly took out the two pointed stones he had tucked away that morning and threw one with all his might at the crow hovering above him, which was letting out a mocking cry.
The crow was still “confidently” flapping its wings to dodge, letting out a teasing cry after its prank.
“Thwack!”
“Gah!”
The ugly cry stopped abruptly. The next second, the stone embedded itself deeply into the crow’s abdomen. The crow’s beak hung half-open with an expression of disbelief before it fell straight to the ground, splashing up a cloud of snow.
The carcass of a large black bird lay there right in front of Dong Mo.
Dong Mo was stunned, and the audience in the livestream was also stunned.
[?]
[Wait, did I miss something just now?]
[Huh? He just threw it randomly and it actually hit?]
[He even predicted the crow’s prediction! The direction he threw was exactly where the crow was about to dodge]
[Holy crap, Sharpshooter Momo!]
[Momo is he actually that strong?]
Dong Mo stood frozen in place, his chest heaving slightly. He blinked his silver eyes, which were half-dazed and half-filled with lingering anger.
The next moment, he walked forward in a daze and crouched beside the crow’s carcass. It was indeed dead.
He looked down at his hands in disbelief, shock completely replacing the anger on his beautiful face.
Good heavens.
So, although he could not move a large tree, and although he would trip while walking, his talent points were actually all spent on throwing stones?
And was he really that accurate?
His emotions were fluctuating too much, and his self-doubt was so intense that, without noticing, a pair of fluffy, twitching black dog ears “popped” out from the top of Dong Mo’s head.
