Did Puppy Pick Up Fluffy Things on the Livestream Today? - Chapter 1
A once-in-a-century blizzard swept across the entire Beastman Planet overnight.
Within the Interstellar Live Streaming Platform, the usually popular Beastman Sector had only a handful of active streams. Top anchors with tens of millions of followers had all posted notices of absence. The biting cold and extreme scarcity of survival resources made it impossible to show audiences exciting hunting scenes, and the poor lighting was hardly ideal for showing off their fluffy beast forms.
In short: it was a blizzard. There was no traffic and no money to be made, so they did not broadcast.
Just as the residents of various planets who were desperate to see some fluff were scratching their heads in frustration, a Level 1 burner account quietly started a stream in the sector.
The stream title read: [Will the curly-tailed puppy survive today too? Yes, he will.]
Within just one minute of going live, several viewers were drawn in by the title.
On the eastern edge of the Tsukiyama Forest, towering pine trees stood firm one after another. The ground beneath their shade was covered in a thick layer of snow half a person high. The fresh snow was crystal clear. Everything was so still that there was no sign of any biological activity.
Just as the few rare viewers were about to leave, thinking there was nothing to see, a pitch-black, exceptionally fluffy, curly tail suddenly popped out from the thick snow.
The tip of the tail seemed to be cold, as it could not help but wag left and right in the air. A second later, from the spot where it emerged, the snow began to be pushed forward rapidly. The white snow was soon cleared away by the wagging curly tail, creating a deep, half-meter-wide trench that revealed the dark brown earth covered in withered leaves.
After pushing all the way to the largest pine tree, the fluffy tail finally decided to change direction. The tip of the tail nimbly turned around, shifted to the other side of the snow, and began returning the way it came, sweeping the snow right next to the trench. Back and forth it went. The individual hairs on the black tail were distinct, and though snowflakes fell lightly from the canopy, they could not stop its progress.
【? ? ? ?】 【Did the Beastman Planet introduce some new type of snowplow?】 【Such a curly tail! So fluffy! Is it a puppy?!】
A few comments popped up in the chat, but before anyone could react, the screen was suddenly flooded with “AHHHH!”
Dim winter light filtered through the gaps in the branches above, perfectly illuminating a small, clean patch of ground covered in countless withered yellow leaves.
A black puppy, half a meter tall and round-bodied, raised its head proudly. Its silver-white vertical pupils looked at the cleared space with a heart full of accomplishment. The large tail behind it curled over its rear in a perfect arc, wagging left and right to express its joy.
Turning its head to look back at the cave entrance, which was no longer blocked by snow, and the transparent livestream window floating beside it, the puppy stuck out a pink tongue and gently licked its front paw pad. Only the pad of his front left paw was pink, making it more sensitive than the other three.
After ensuring his pink paw was uninjured, that the livestream was functioning normally, and that text was scrolling across the screen, the black puppy lunged into the man-sized “dirt cave” he had dug out.
A moment later, a slender, beautiful youth with black hair and silver eyes stepped out. Despite the backdrop of white snow, his skin seemed to glow. His limbs possessed smooth, attractive muscle lines, and the brow on the high bridge of his nose was slightly furrowed. As he walked, he fumbled to tie a yellowish animal-skin coat. He was not yet used to “clothes” that had to be fastened manually.
【Ahhh! Family! It is a curly-tailed little wolf-dog!】 【Oh my god! First time seeing a breed with a curly tail. Is he a mixed breed? How sad.】 【Do not talk nonsense above! What is wrong with being a mixed breed? Mixed breeds are cuter! That tail is so curly. I wonder if it can curl into a heart shape?】 【One second I was a “mom fan” obsessed with the fluff, now I want to be a “girlfriend fan.” Hi, wifey! [Confident Greeting.JPG]】 【? ? ? Who are you, handsome? No, wait, who are you, wifey?】 【This streamer actually has some skills. His beast form is such a pitch-black puppy, but his human form is glowing white! [Drooling.JPG]】 【Say no more, I am following. By the way, why is the puppy streamer only Level 1? He looks like a cub.】
Seeing the chat flood with nearly a hundred comments in a short time, Dong Mo pursed his lips and gave a reserved, cute smile:
“Welcome everyone to my stream! I am a black wolf-dog, and my curly tail is natural. My name is Dong Mo. ‘Dong’ as in winter, and ‘Mo’ as in ink.”
As his ethereal voice fell, another wave of exclamation marks washed over the chat.
This was the third day since Dong Mo had transmigrated into a little black dog, and the third day since he had been kicked out of the Tsukiyama Tribe by the Chief.
To this day, he did not understand exactly what had happened. He only remembered picking up a stray puppy with a broken leg on his way home from work. On the way to the pet store, he was struck by an unlicensed truck.
When he opened his eyes again, his hands had turned into two fluffy paws. Furthermore, he was being held by the scruff of the neck by a sturdy middle-aged man, who was at least two meters tall and bare-chested, and tossed into this forest.
“Dong Mo! From today on, you no longer belong to our Tsukiyama Tribe!”
The black puppy, dizzy from being thrown, rolled on the ground. In his daze, he tried to argue, “No, buddy, who even are you!”
But what came out was a puppy’s “whimper,” sounding completely harmless.
Dong Mo: …
The puppy sighed, struggled to stand up, and looked around. Then he realized he was in what appeared to be a primeval forest.
Thinking of his difficult experiences over these three days, Dong Mo shook his head and let out a heavy sigh. There was no time to think too much. He had to hurry to where he set traps last night to see if any small prey had been caught. He also needed to boost the livestream’s popularity to see if any viewers would donate, so he could earn money to buy other daily necessities via the Interstellar Network.
He was simply too hungry and too poor.
After accepting his transformation into a little black dog, he fortunately retained some memories of the original inhabitant. This was the “Beastman Planet,” a place he had only seen in novels and movies. All residents were divided into Beastmen and Sub-Beastmen, capable of switching between beast and human forms at will, living in various tribes according to their race.
Because resources on the Beastman Planet were scarce and technology was underdeveloped, the economy relied primarily on “Livestreaming.” By broadcasting their daily lives and allowing viewers to “cloud-pet” them in beast form, they received donations to trade with other planets for necessities.
In his remaining memories, this puppy had never been fed or clothed well. He lived in a filthy cave with tribesmen imprisoned for crimes and was frequently bullied by other cubs his age. All of this was because, in the Tsukiyama Tribe where everyone was a tall, mighty, long-haired giant wolf, Dong Mo was a black, mixed-breed wolf-dog with a curly tail.
Furthermore, because he was a Sub-Beastman cub, the tribe had “kindly” waited until he was nearly an adult before kicking him out. The puppy had no memory of his parents. The tribesmen said he was a deformed cub and that his curly tail was an omen of bad luck, claiming no resident of any planet would like to see a curly-tailed monster.
Thinking of this, Dong Mo, who was walking carefully through the snow, could not help but kick a nearby snowdrift.
Whatever! Those guys in the Tsukiyama Tribe have no taste!
A curly-tailed puppy was an angel! In his old world, he had wanted a fluffy dog with a curly tail, let alone one mixed with wolf blood! And look at his stream! Most of the viewers were praising his tail for being cute!
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got, and the more determined he became to survive.
Don’t be afraid, little black dog. Since I have transmigrated into you, I will definitely lead you to a good life! I will show them what a treasure a curly-tailed puppy is!
While cheering himself on, he searched for the spot where he had set the trap. Dong Mo had no experience with wilderness survival and could only grope his way through using the puppy’s lingering memories. Even though he was streaming the whole time, he was not afraid of losing face. Among a sea of Beastmen with extreme survival skills, a clumsy puppy who could not even set a trap straight was surely a “trending topic.”
As it turned out, Dong Mo was right. The viewers in the stream had already surpassed a hundred and were still climbing.
【Oh, what a clumsy puppy. He cannot even walk steadily in the snow.】
【The baby is wearing his animal skins all messy!】
【Is he going to find food?】
Over these few days, Dong Mo had survived by scavenging wild fruits stored by other small animals in hollow trees and burrows. Knowing he would starve if this continued, he used his best tools, his small claws, to dig a small burrow yesterday. He tore a piece from his only animal skin to cover it and camouflaged it with fallen leaves, creating a simple trap.
He had not expected such a heavy snowfall overnight and worried the trap might have collapsed. Approaching the trap with concern, he was relieved to see that the denser pine and cypress branches above had acted as a buffer. The snow on the ground was not as thick as it was by his cave.
Dong Mo trotted through the calf-deep snow and quickly reached the trap.
The opening was uncovered! His silver eyes lit up. Did something fall in?!
Praying it was not just collapsed from the snow, he leaned down to look. He saw a thin layer of white snow at the bottom. Dong Mo was disappointed. Was it really just the snow?
He looked around and picked up a long stick to poke inside. Just as it was about to touch the bottom, that thin layer of snow suddenly “moved.”
There was something!
Tossing the stick aside, he quickly bent over, reaching halfway into the hole, and grabbed at the moving spot with both hands. His hands met icy fresh snow and a somewhat coarse, furry texture. Holding on firmly, Dong Mo carefully lifted the “lump” out of the snow.
It was a white “ball of yarn.”
Dong Mo blinked in confusion. The little guy in his hands was barely larger than his palm. He gently turned it over, and a cat head, with a pink nose and eyes crusty with frozen blood, came face-to-face with him.
Dong Mo’s silver pupils shook violently. It is a kitty!
In his excitement, his knees slipped forward, and he almost fell back into the trap while holding the kitten. Dong Mo frantically regained his balance and stood up carefully. He slowly cradled the kitten in his arms. The little creature had sparse white fur, and its two pointed, rounded ears were trembling uncontrollably. Its eyes would not open, but its tiny nose twitched as it struggled to breathe. Sensing long-awaited warmth, it could not help but nuzzle into Dong Mo’s chest.
Dong Mo felt his heart melt instantly. For a moment, even his hunger seemed to vanish.
He picked up a cat! A kitty in the Beastman world! With a pink little nose!
The viewers in the livestream also went wild upon seeing the kitten:
【A kitty! He picked up a cat!】 【Even a puppy can pick up a cat, why can’t I!】 【Is this really a cat?】 【It is so badly injured!】 【Puppy! Stop looking at the cat, look behind you!!】
Dong Mo did not notice the warnings in the chat. He was heartbroken by the kitten’s injuries. Not daring to delay, he turned around to take off the hemp bag he had found in the wild. He intended to wrap the kitten in it first.
But as he turned, he came eye-to-eye with a large, spotted snake. It was as tall as a man, as thick as a tree trunk, and had its front body reared up. A purple-red forked tongue almost flicked against his face.
Dong Mo: !!! Viewers: 【! ! ! !】
Since Dong Mo was not originally a Beastman, his perception of danger was not that sharp. He had not noticed such a big fellow approaching at all! The shock sent him falling flat on his back.
The giant snake was momentarily stunned by his sudden turn, but seeing Dong Mo fall in fright while clutching the kitten, its crimson vertical pupils constricted. Hissing, it opened its bloody maw and lunged at him.
Dong Mo did not have time to react. He tossed the kitten into a nearby thick snowdrift and quickly rolled away, dodging the snake’s first strike. The snake bit a mouthful of snow and, enraged, coiled its body to strike again.
Dong Mo scrambled to his feet, remembering a survival tip he had seen before: “A snake’s weakness is seven inches below the head.”
The spotted snake’s scales were clearly different from anything he had seen in his old world. They were multicolored and shimmering with a hard, metallic luster. Rolling again in the snow, Dong Mo stared at the snake, nearly in tears. So, where are its “seven inches”?!
Seeing that it could not hit Dong Mo, the snake flicked its tongue and turned toward the kitten hidden in the snow.
Dong Mo’s heart tightened. Perhaps the urge to protect the kitten gave him courage. In a heat of passion, his animal-skin clothes fell into the snow as he transformed. The next second, a half-meter-tall black wolf-dog “zoomed” forward.
If I cannot find the seven inches, it must have a throat!
The black puppy was far smaller than the snake, but he was agile. Dong Mo’s curly tail wagged to maintain balance as he leaped from the side. At the exact moment the snake was about to touch the kitten, he clamped his sharp canine teeth onto the snake’s lower jaw and throat.
Hiss!
The snake twisted in agony, letting out a pained hiss. Dong Mo was a Sub-Beastman. His teeth were not sharp enough to do massive damage, barely breaking the skin, so he could only hang on for dear life. The snake thrashed, dragging him through the air. Dong Mo swung helplessly, his small paws and curly tail flailing, but he refused to let go.
Do not you dare steal his kitty!
Thinking this, Dong Mo struggled to raise his front paws, unsheathing his sharp claws, and shredded the snake’s underbelly. Once was not enough. Twice, three times! His teeth ached, but he held on.
Under the continuous scratching of his claws and the prolonged constriction of its throat making it unable to breathe, the snake’s movements slowed. Finally, with a “thud,” it collapsed to the ground.
Dong Mo fell heavily alongside it. Even as the puppy landed in the snow, he kept his grip on the throat until he felt the creature truly stop breathing. Only then did he let go.
Not daring to linger, Dong Mo staggered to his feet. Ignoring the pain in his gums, he ran to the kitten. He gently bit the scruff of the kitten’s neck, turned to snag the hemp bag and his animal skins around his neck, and dragged his belongings into the snow.
A fluffy curly tail emerged once more on the surface of the snow, carving a black trench as it raced frantically back toward the cave.
The kitten must be okay!
