Did My Wife Break Up With Me Today? - Chapter 81
Chapter 81: “Brother, no more.”
After finishing this long explanation, Chen Kongqing was worried that Ling Xiao might not understand, so he considerately explained it all again. He was mainly concerned that Ling Xiao would think he was making things up on purpose just to spite him.
“When I was a child, I was sick and forgot many people and events. Therefore, I forgot Xu Jingmo.” Chen Kongqing paused, giving Ling Xiao enough time to process the information. “But I always had dreams—dreams of those eyes of his. Later, I met you. At that time, I thought it was destiny, thought you were the person from my dreams. It’s just that now I’ve remembered everything. So, don’t misunderstand: I like Xu Jingmo. I’ve always liked him. I only just remembered this myself; it’s not like… I made up another lie just to make you angry.”
Though it sounded somewhat far-fetched, he didn’t intend to prove anything further: “What I felt for you was real, but it’s in the past, Ling Xiao. I used to find you disgusting, and I used to hate you a little, but now, I feel nothing.”
The man in sportswear, whose face and aura usually radiated vitality, suddenly lost all color at these words. It was as if his soul was drifting away along with this conversation.
“Chen Kongqing, so… you’re saying, you just had the wrong person? You only liked me because you mistook me for someone else?” Ling Xiao was speechless for a long time before asking, “Did you never like me? Just me, for who I am?”
“No.” Chen Kongqing thought for a moment and said firmly, “Back in high school, you spoke up for me. I was very grateful to you then, but it was only gratitude. But then, I saw your eyes.”
He didn’t say anything after that. He wasn’t trying to twist the knife on purpose.
Ling Xiao stood frozen for a long while. The light vanished from his phoenix eyes, and he exhaled a long, shaky breath.
Chen Kongqing looked down at the half-eaten, cooling rice ball in his hand. Suddenly, the phone in his pocket buzzed with a notification. He pulled it out and unlocked the screen.
Mein Mann[Pink Heart]: Have you eaten yet? Baby. Mein Mann[Pink Heart]: I’m off work. Coming to pick you up.
This contact name was changed by Xu Jingmo himself. Last night, Chen had been tossed around so much he couldn’t get out of bed, and since his class was collecting screenshots for a survey, Xu Jingmo had taken his phone to help him fill it out. That was when Xu Jingmo saw that he was listed in Chen’s phone as a “Jane Doe” with no nickname and no pinned status.
The man had edited the contact name with a sinister glint in his eyes while hovering over the bed to continue “nibbling” on the poor rabbit. When Chen Kongqing finally opened his phone again, the name had changed to this. He hadn’t even had the chance to ask what the letters meant. Regardless, it probably wasn’t anything innocent.
Azurite: Okay, I’m at the convenience store under the experimental building. Mein Mann[Pink Heart]: Eating at a convenience store? Azurite: [Rabbit playing dumb.jpg] Mein Mann[Pink Heart]: Rejected. Go eat again. Mein Mann[Pink Heart]: I’m almost there. Azurite: Okay.
He turned off the screen and stood up to leave. “He’s coming to pick me up. I have to go.”
“Wait.” Ling Xiao raised his despondent eyes and asked coldly, “How long did he say you’d be together? A lifetime?”
Chen Kongqing frowned. He didn’t want to answer, so he put on his backpack to leave.
“He’s just playing around with you, Chen Kongqing. I’m warning you.” Ling Xiao stood up as well, but his tone didn’t sound like he was mocking. “As for what I owe you, I will pay it back.”
Chen Kongqing’s frown deepened as he left his final words: “No need. We were even long ago.”
This time, Ling Xiao didn’t step forward to block his path as he had before. He simply stood there quietly, watching the youth’s retreating figure. He looked a bit more filled out than before; his back didn’t look quite so thin and fragile anymore. Ling Xiao lowered his eyes in dejection.
Outside, the rain had gradually stopped, but the ground was still wet. Water droplets clung to the branches, occasionally falling with a patter-patter onto the damp pavement.
Chen Kongqing got into the Mercedes that pulled up. He was still holding the half-eaten rice ball. He decided not to tell Xu Jingmo about meeting Ling Xiao; from the look of things, it seemed that would be the last time Ling Xiao would harass him.
Xu Jingmo glanced over. “You told me not to worry about your dinner and that you’d handle it yourself. This is how you handle it?”
“The rice ball has everything! Meat, vegetables, even corn kernels,” Chen Kongqing argued. “And carbs.”
Xu Jingmo: “…”
The man didn’t say more but drove Chen Kongqing straight to a private restaurant to feed him properly. After they finished, they went back to the rental apartment together. Because the black cat, “Sergeant Black Cat,” had witnessed the entire “process” last time, Chen had been too embarrassed to even look the cat in the eye for several days. He had only become slightly desensitized today. He had even searched online to see how good a cat’s memory is. The answers were inconsistent and lacked scientific basis.
“It’s been raining lately; it’s too damp here.” Xu Jingmo handed a glass of warm water to Chen Kongqing, who was sitting on the sofa petting the cat. “If you don’t want to move into my place, I’ll find another apartment for you—something bigger and more comfortable, okay?”
“No.” Chen Kongqing took the water and refused firmly. “The rent for larger places nearby is expensive. This place is fine.”
“Don’t worry about the rent.” Xu Jingmo reached out and stroked the black cat in the youth’s lap.
“I don’t want you to pay for me. It’s weird. We are in a relationship,” Chen Kongqing repeated his stance.
Xu Jingmo sat slowly on the armrest of the sofa, his phoenix eyes filled with a soft tenderness. “Do you have to be so distant even with your Brother?”
Brother. Why did Xu Jingmo call himself that? It was really… too much.
“You’ve remembered everything, but you haven’t called me ‘Brother’ yet.” Xu Jingmo leaned down slightly. “Go on, say it once.”
Chen Kongqing immediately turned his face away, refusing to let Xu Jingmo get close.
“Xiao Man, just once,” Xu Jingmo said, his voice carrying a hint of a plea.
Instead, Chen Kongqing pressed his lips together tightly, turning his head away completely. In the next instant, his chin was seized. His face was forced back around and tilted upward. Chen Kongqing’s willow-leaf eyes widened, a flicker of struggle appearing in his brown pupils as he tried to twist his neck.
But it was futile. His jaw was firmly cupped, the grip tightening slightly.
A second later, Xu Jingmo pressed his face down, capturing Chen Kongqing’s pink lips.
“Mmh.” Chen Kongqing didn’t know why, but it felt like something inside him had been broken by Xu Jingmo. Every time they kissed, it was as if an automatic switch flipped. Without Xu Jingmo even doing anything, he would obediently open his mouth.
Chen Kongqing: “…”
Xu Jingmo’s slick tongue moved brazenly inside his mouth, tangling tighter and deeper. It was always like this—he kissed as if he wanted to eat him alive. The distance between them vanished centimeter by centimeter. Since Xu Jingmo was sitting on the armrest, he was much taller than Chen. Chen stretched his neck and, seeking leverage, hung both hands around Xu Jingmo’s neck.
The confused “Sergeant Black Cat” in his lap felt its living space being squeezed and decisively jumped away. With a thud, the round black cat landed safely on the floor.
Chen Kongqing instinctively opened his eyes to look at the floor. Then, like a little chick, he was hoisted up. While still kissing him, Xu Jingmo lifted him with one hand and sat him on his lap.
Chen Kongqing no longer had to strain his neck, but his hands remained draped over Xu Jingmo’s shoulders. Their breath and teeth were deeply entangled. Chen felt he was losing his breath again; his tongue was being sucked and bitten, and the hand gripping his jaw hadn’t let go, pinching the soft white flesh of his cheek. His jaw was aching, and his head began to feel light and floaty.
The hand resting on his waist began to wander. It was one thing for his lips to be licked into a wet mess, but Xu Jingmo started nipping at the corners of his mouth with his teeth. It didn’t hurt, but he was worried about leaving marks. His mouth had been very swollen a couple of days ago; on the first morning, he had pretended to have a cold and wore a mask to class. Was he going to have to wear a mask to class again tomorrow?
Chen Kongqing had publicly drifted off again. The punishment was severe.
Xu Jingmo’s hand at the small of his back moved silently to his waist dimples. He squeezed the soft spots hard.
“Wuh!” The “rabbit,” who couldn’t speak because he was being kissed, could only let out a short, startled cry from his throat.
This area was extremely sensitive, and naturally, it was the place Xu Jingmo loved to bully most. This was why his most feared position was from behind—he couldn’t see anything and couldn’t defend against anything. Xu Jingmo would always pinch right when he could least bear it.
Chen Kongqing let out several whimpers before Xu Jingmo finally let go, his tongue retreating slightly. “What is Xiao Man going to call me?”
Wasn’t this a blatant threat?
Chen Kongqing kept his lips parted, a bit of moisture glistening at the corner of his mouth, but he didn’t want to yield to tyranny. Then, coming from some unknown source of courage, three words slipped out: “Old pervert.”
“What?” Xu Jingmo’s expression didn’t look like he was angry, but something suddenly surged in his eyes. There was even a hint of playfulness.
Chen Kongqing licked his lips, deciding to be brave to the end, and repeated clearly: “Old pervert!”
Before the last syllable could even finish, Xu Jingmo kissed him again. It wasn’t just a kiss anymore; he was truly devouring him. He clamped down on those lips.
Chen Kongqing had a bad premonition. Xu Jingmo’s aura was completely different from a moment ago. Right now, it felt like he was really going to swallow him whole. The man picked him up from the sofa and easily tossed him onto the bed—the clean bed with freshly changed sheets.
He felt like they were going to need changing again soon.
As soon as Chen Kongqing hit the bed, he tried to run, propping his elbows on the mattress to scurry backward. Xu Jingmo was taking off his jacket. Seeing this, he reached out and grabbed the rabbit’s right ankle.
Chen Kongqing was dragged back in an instant. He couldn’t help but let out a soft groan.
Xu Jingmo ignored his protest, hoisting his ankle high and resting it against his shoulder. Then, his knees on the bed moved forward, pressing in.
Chen Kongqing knew things were officially going south. He had a club activity tomorrow.
Just before Xu Jingmo leaned down to kiss him, Chen Kongqing looked at the man with his watery eyes and pleaded in a small voice:
“Brother… no more.”
