Despite Having Many Disguises, I Failed to Impress the School Heartthrob - Chapter 6
Aside from their homeroom teacher, Yang Zenghe, He Yu didn’t recognize any of the other subject teachers. He and Chu Yi had skipped the second period, so he had no way of judging the chemistry teacher, though the Chinese and English teachers seemed nice enough. The physics and biology teachers appeared a bit more strict.
However, no matter how strict a teacher was, none of them bothered “Chu Yi’s small group,” who spent the entire day slumped over their desks. He Yu couldn’t help but sigh inwardly: Being rich truly allows you to do whatever you want.
The day passed in a blur of sleep. He Yu sat up and rubbed his head, feeling refreshed. It was the first time he had ever been able to sleep through classes without being disturbed or constantly looking over his shoulder. It felt amazing.
“I won’t be taking you home tonight, but I’ll pick you up at your place tomorrow morning,” Chu Yi said. He hadn’t brought his own bag, so he stood up to help He Yu pack. “You don’t know a damn thing about the material; are you bringing all these books home just to sell them for scrap metal?”
“I still have to try,” He Yu said with a look of modest determination. “Every single point counts. It could be the difference between me and several hundred other students.”
“Oh?” Chu Yi chuckled, ruffling He Yu’s hair. “Impressive.”
He Yu packed his things and walked out with Chu Yi, who carried He Yu’s backpack over his shoulder. It was a plain black bag that cost twenty-three yuan on Pinduoduo and came with a free pencil case. He Yu had only bought it because it was spacious, but it was so large that he looked like he was carrying a turtle shell every day. On Chu Yi, however, the bag looked perfectly fine. With his broad shoulders, tall frame, and casual smirk, he managed to pull off the dorky backpack effortlessly. It really went to show that the success of any fashion choice relied entirely on the face.
“I’ll have Xin Tao drive you home,” Chu Yi said as they reached the school gate.
“No, no,” He Yu said, waving his hands hurriedly. “I live just a few minutes away.” He needed to wait for Yuan Li, and if Yuan Li saw Xin Tao, he’d probably get so excited he’d need a respirator.
“Over there,” Chu Yi said, leaning down behind him. He rested his chin on He Yu’s shoulder and tilted his head, his voice vibrating against He Yu’s ear. “Do you know what that group is doing?”
He Yu followed his gaze and saw a group of students dressed like “semi-delinquents” staring at him aggressively. When they noticed Chu Yi, they immediately began fidgeting and pretending nothing was happening.
Ah, He Yu thought, his fingers twitching. I’m about to be cornered by some high school bad-boy Omegas.
“They’re going to ambush me,” He Yu said, slipping into his role with a look of panic. He grabbed Chu Yi’s sleeve nervously. Just as Chu Yi thought he was going to agree to the ride, He Yu added, “But Brother, I run really fast. No one can catch me.”
“Are you the damn wind or something?” Chu Yi laughed, flicking his forehead.
“I’m the man even the wind can’t catch,” He Yu joked, clutching his head.
“Call me if anything happens,” Chu Yi said, his hand lingering on He Yu’s hair for a moment. He checked his watch, clearly having somewhere to be.
“I definitely will,” He Yu nodded, playing the part of the obedient boyfriend.

Chu Yi gave a grunt of acknowledgement and shot a warning glare at the “semi-delinquent” group before getting into a private Mercedes and driving away.
“What a low-key Mercedes,” He Yu muttered, his eyes practically glued to the car. No man can resist a nice car; Alphas and Omegas are the same in that regard.
“Big Fish! He Dayu!”
He Yu turned to see a sweet-looking Omega running toward him, panting for breath. The moment the Omega opened his mouth, however, his personality betrayed his looks: “Holy crap, that idiot homeroom teacher of mine insisted on keeping us late! Where’s Chu Yi? Where’s Chu Yi?”
He Yu threw an arm around his shoulder and laughed. “He went home ages ago.”
“Dammit!” Yuan Li fumed. “I’m switching classes!”
“What, so you can watch us hug and cuddle every day?” He Yu asked with mock bashfulness. “I’m worried you wouldn’t be able to handle it.”
“Get lost,” Yuan Li said, taking advantage of his three-centimeter height advantage to put He Yu in a headlock. “Look at you, floating on air! Tell me! How far have you two gone?”
“We held hands,” He Yu laughed, skillfully pinching Yuan Li’s arm at a pressure point. Yuan Li yelped and let go instantly as his arm went numb. He Yu shrugged. “I get paid, he gets his problems solved. Mutually beneficial.”
“Hmph,” the Omega huffed. “Fine!”
“By the way,” Yuan Li rubbed his arm. “Don’t forget about the tutoring gig. I already told Brother Feng you wouldn’t be on shift that night.”
“We’ll see when the time comes,” He Yu said lazily. “I still have to go in tonight. Master Yuan, take a look at me—does my face look like I’m about to drop dead?”
“Let me see,” Yuan Li held He Yu’s face and scrutinized it. “Tsk tsk. My calculations show you’ve been eating instant noodles for a month and staying up all night. If you pull another all-nighter today, you’ll be struck by lightning! And you’ll be bald for the rest of your life!!!”
“Holy crap! That serious?” He Yu clutched his head in mock despair. “Does the Master have a solution?”
“There is one way,” Yuan Li said, stroking his chin. “You need the touch of a virgin…”
“Then I’m a goner, Master,” He Yu said, his face falling. “I’ve already decided to live out my life in solitude.”
“Wait, really?” Yuan Li snapped out of the act and stared at him. “You still haven’t forgotten that dog of a man?!”
“What???” He Yu gave him a confused look. “I just need a little time.”
“It’s been a year!” Yuan Li rolled his eyes. “You don’t even know what he looks like! All you know is that he was a great jungler and carried you to Master rank. Big deal!”
“I just felt like we were soulmates,” He Yu said solemnly.
“I think your soul is just a bit square,” Yuan Li replied, unimpressed.

The walk from Tongyan High to the apartment complex took less than five minutes and was lined with street food stalls. He Yu stopped to buy a Jianbing Guozi. “Boss, add two sausages and two eggs!”
“Look at you, being all extravagant,” Yuan Li noted. “I thought you bought a keyboard.”
“No, no, no,” He Yu gave a roguish grin. “Comrade Chu Yi sent me the remaining ten thousand this morning.”
“Crap,” Yuan Li was practically dripping with jealousy. “I want a handsome guy to sponsor me too.”
He Yu lived in the Xingfu Community, while Yuan Li lived in the more upscale Fugui Community behind it. As they parted ways, Yuan Li reminded him, “Tell Brother Feng in advance so you don’t end up scrambling to change shifts later.”
“Yeah, I know,” He Yu said. “I’ll deal with it later.”
“You’ll never get over your laziness,” Yuan Li grumbled. “You never prepare for anything in advance.”
“Let me just die of laziness then,” He Yu said, taking a bite of his savory pancake as the evening wind blew. “I’m off.”
“Bye!” Yuan Li waved.
“Bye~” He Yu waved back as he walked backward, laughing lightheartedly.
He hadn’t been home the previous night, so the place was a mess, but he didn’t have time to clean. He boiled a pot of water and took a quick bath. Afterward, he dashed into the bedroom and buried himself under the electric blanket to escape the floor’s chill.
If they don’t fix the heating soon, summer will be here… He Yu complained to his own soul.
On WeChat, Feng Cang was frantically messaging him.
Brother Feng: Have you gotten ready yet? Don’t fall asleep again.
Brother Feng: Are you out the door? No need to eat; I’ve prepared food for you here.
Brother Feng: Hurry up and get here.
He Yu replied with a “Coming right now” and then promptly rolled over and pulled up the covers. Five minutes. Just five minutes of sleep…
An hour later, He Yu bolted upright. He answered his phone while frantically throwing open the closet to change. “Hey, Brother, I was going to say—”
“Don’t say a damn word! I know you fell asleep! Get your ass over here!” Feng Cang looked at his watch, deeply grateful that he knew the kid’s habits well enough to call an hour early.
“Yeah, yeah, coming right now.” He Yu hung up, grabbed a short padded jacket and some sweatpants, and ran to the bathroom. He washed his face and pushed his bangs back, expertly styling his hair to reveal his forehead.
Unlike most Omegas, his face wasn’t round and cute; it had sharp angles and a high bridge of the nose. When he smiled, he didn’t look adorable; he looked cool and a bit cocky. In school, he was fully camouflaged as a plain, weak Omega. But with his bangs up, his contacts in, and his shoulders back, he looked like a completely different person. If you didn’t look at his height, people might even believe he was an Alpha.
But at 175cm… even if he smiled like a genius, he still wasn’t an Alpha.
He pulled on a black baseball cap and a mask, then sprinted out the door in a race against time.
*****
OTE, the largest bar in Tongyan City, had branches in almost every city. The bar was located in the southern part of the city, a place of luxury, decadence, and excess, a sharp contrast to the desolate north.
Traveling from his house to the bar took over an hour by bus or at least forty minutes by taxi. Sleeping for that hour had been… a very brave choice. Comrade He Yu was a true man.
He arrived at the bar exactly at seven. He greeted the colleague on duty at the door. “Liu, you’re here early.”
“Stop joking, Brother,” the boy replied. He was an Alpha in a security uniform, and while he spoke playfully, his eyes were full of respect. “Brother Feng is fuming. Go face your doom.”
“On my way.” He Yu navigated through the sparsely populated front of the bar, as it was still early, and pushed through the back door. A group of staff members were standing or sitting around in a room filled with cigarette smoke.
“Brother Yu!”
“Brother Yu’s here.”
“Morning, Brother Yu.”
“Morning, my ass!” Feng Cang put down his phone and slapped a stack of papers into He Yu’s hand. “A ‘Golden Spoon’ is coming down to play tonight. Keep a close eye on her and don’t let a speck of dust touch her.”
“They get bored in their ivory towers and come here to play. Aren’t they afraid of being picked up?” He Yu took the papers and scanned them. “I’ll be watching; what could happen?”
“Hmph,” Feng Cang huffed. “Inviting you is like inviting an ancestor; you’re getting more and more high and mighty.”
“Don’t call me an ancestor,” He Yu laughed. “Didn’t we agree? I call you Brother, and you call me—”
Feng Cang glared at him, and He Yu wisely swallowed the word “Daddy.”
He Yu went to the locker room to change into a well-tailored black uniform that made his 175cm frame look more like 180cm. The papers Feng Cang had given him described the “Golden Spoon” as the daughter of a major company. She had recently presented as an Omega and was currently in a rebellious phase, sneaking out to mingle at the bar behind her family’s back.
OTE was a bar, to put it nicely; to put it bluntly, it was a den of vice. People came to drink, but many more came looking for excitement or a good time. It was a melting pot of all types. It wasn’t uncommon for spoiled kids with a bit of family power to sneak in, only to end up drugged, picked up, or worse and often, the culprits were never found. After all, who wants to play where the cameras are watching?
His job was to stand near these “Golden Spoons,” maintaining a distance while keeping a constant eye on them to ensure these reckless rich-kid Omegas didn’t get themselves into trouble.
With a dagger and a stun baton tucked into his waistband and hidden by his uniform, He Yu pushed open the door and headed toward the booth Feng Cang had specified. Staff members weren’t given detailed information about the guests; they only needed to know the targets required protection. Consequently, he didn’t even know this Omega’s name.
She had likely just arrived. From behind, He Yu could see a female Omega with twin ponytails. She wasn’t tall and was almost hidden by the booth seats.
Twin ponytails. She’s crazy for coming here like that. He Yu now had a good idea of what his work tonight would entail.

Note:
Brother Feng’s role is indeed tied to the safety of these “Golden Spoons”—wealthy young heirs who come to OTE for a taste of the wild side. He Yu works as a specialized “shadow guard” for these high-profile targets. His “night owl” job is essentially a high-stakes security detail in the city’s most dangerous nightlife spot, where he uses his unique immunity to pheromones and his sharp combat skills to protect those who are out of their depth.
