Deliberate Possession [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 8
Chapter 8: The Nerves
Sponge Has a Baby: “Let’s not…”
She was so embarrassed. But she knew the other person was right across from her, and it felt wrong not to go say hello.
Just as Jiang Yumian was in the midst of her dilemma, her phone rang again. This time, it wasn’t her good sister.
It was Su Mumu.
Jiang Yumian’s thoughts paused. Is she here to mock me, too?
Jiang Yumian: “Hello, Mumu.”
Su Mumu laughed loudly. “Hahahaha, Jiang Yumian, you… hahaha, your goofy expression was so dumb.”
Jiang Yumian’s heart sank. “…”
The person on the other end didn’t care that Jiang Yumian wasn’t talking. She kept laughing, as if afraid Jiang Yumian didn’t know what she was talking about. She kindly reminded her.
“Did you see the hot search? If you didn’t, go look! Hahahaha.”
“Why did you hug the ad board and not the real person? Was it because you didn’t know she was behind you?”
Jiang Yumian closed her eyes, gritting her teeth. “Su Mumu! Where are you?”
Su Mumu held back her laughter. “Don’t worry about where I am. Did you really not know Jing Xiaoyan was behind you yesterday?”
She was here for the front-row gossip. Online rumors were hard to verify, so she went straight to the source.
“I didn’t.” Jiang Yumian’s mouth twitched. She didn’t care if Su Mumu was laughing at her. She just complained. “If I knew Jing Xiaoyan was there, would I have taken a picture hugging that sign?”
Su Mumu: “Well, the way you say it, it sounds like you wanted to hug her instead.”
Jiang Yumian scoffed. What’s with this talk about hugging? Is she that careless of a person?
There were no cameras. Why would she put on a show? Besides, what if her good sister got jealous? She would have to ask for permission first!
Not to mention, what if Jing Xiaoyan didn’t even like her? Wouldn’t she be shamelessly cozying up to her? Why would she lower herself like that and play a submissive role?
Jiang Yumian: “Forget all that. I’ll tell you something even more dramatic.”
Su Mumu’s curiosity was immediately piqued. “What?”
Jiang Yumian: “I’m in a hotel, and Jing Xiaoyan is too. She’s staying in the room right across from mine.”
Su Mumu was speechless. “Holy crap!?”
Jiang Yumian rubbed her nose. “You’re not wrong. It’s fate. I even ran into her when I went out yesterday, but I didn’t recognize her. I almost thought she was a human trafficker.”
Although she had no idea what Jing Xiaoyan did to make Jiang Yumian think she was a trafficker, Su Mumu believed her. After all, Jiang Yumian had a vivid imagination.
Su Mumu thought for a few seconds. She had only come to get some gossip, and she didn’t expect this much drama. “So, are you going to go knock on the door and introduce yourself?”
Jiang Yumian fell into a deep thought, her fingers fidgeting. Should I go meet her?
“Oh, forget it. I can’t. It’s too embarrassing.”
Jiang Yumian thought it over and finally deflated. What would she say after she knocked? She really was quite introverted.
Su Mumu couldn’t help but laugh at her again. “Hahahaha, you’re still afraid of being embarrassed? You’ve already used up all your embarrassment.”
Jiang Yumian: “Get lost. I could say you and Chu Qianyuan are acting strange.”
She was all sweet and well-behaved when talking to her good sister on the phone, but that didn’t work with other people.
Jiang Yumian had also noticed this problem herself. She attributed the phenomenon to her relationship with the other person: one was a friend, and the other was a girlfriend. It was completely normal!
She was getting more and more used to the fact that she had a girlfriend.
Su Mumu went quiet for a few seconds, her tone instantly deflating. She said drily, “Don’t mention her. She just makes me angry.”
Jiang Yumian was still caught up in her self-brainwashing. When she heard Su Mumu was angry, she was stunned for a moment before she realized who she was angry at.
Jiang Yumian asked, “What did she do to you?”
Su Mumu cleared her throat. “Wait until I get there. We’ll talk face-to-face. I’m already in the city. You two are so competitive, going there before the show even starts filming.”
Jiang Yumian: “Why are you here? Are you done shooting?”
Su Mumu: “I have an announcement here. That show I got isn’t urgent anyway. The reality show films for three days. I’ll just fly back to shoot after. Oh, right, Luo Cheng and Lin Xi are coming tomorrow.”
“They’re coming too? How come I didn’t know that?” Jiang Yumian felt like her information was lagging behind, even though they were all acquaintances.
Su Mumu was speechless. “Girl, there’s a show group chat on the work WeChat. They said so in the group.”
Jiang Yumian blinked, then realized. She had let her assistant manage her work WeChat. The assistant would tell her about important things, and she would check it occasionally. Now that the assistant wasn’t here, the phone with that WeChat account wasn’t with her either.
“Oh… I’ll log in on my own phone later to check.”
Su Mumu: “Send me the hotel location. I’m coming to mock you in person.”
Jiang Yumian sent the location, then reminded her not to get another room. She still had two empty ones, which was plenty for her. The presidential suite was huge.
Su Mumu: “Riding on the coattails of the eldest daughter, your servant is on her way!”
Jiang Yumian was about to speak when she saw a call notification, but it was interrupted because the line was busy.
“I’m not the eldest daughter, I’m the queen. I’ll talk to you later. The Emperor, whose coattails you’re riding, is calling me. You may retire.”
Su Mumu: “?”
Jing Xiaoyan was staring blankly at her phone. Before she could figure out what to do, the phone on the other end quickly called back.
“Sister, I was on the phone with a friend just now.”
Jiang Yumian dutifully explained, her tone much softer than when she was talking to Su Mumu.
“She’s filming the show with me and said she’ll come over later. It’s good that she can keep me company for the next two days.”
The smile on Jing Xiaoyan’s face froze, but her voice remained normal. “Oh? Someone on the show with you? I’m a little curious. Who is it?”
Jiang Yumian answered honestly. “Su Mumu. We filmed a show before. She’s a good friend of mine. You should know her, right?”
After all, Su Mumu was quite popular.
Jing Xiaoyan’s long eyelashes fluttered. This person, of course I know her. I know quite a lot about her.
She pretended everything was normal. “Good. It’s great that you’ll have someone to play with, since you’re alone.”
Jiang Yumian’s voice was filled with laughter. “Mm-hmm. Is there anything you needed, Sister?”
“No, I was just worried you were too sad. I wanted to comfort you and chat.”
Jing Xiaoyan’s words were half-true. The purpose of her call was to coax Jiang Yumian into coming over to her.
If that didn’t work, she would go over herself.
Jiang Yumian pouted. My sister is so nice. She feels sorry for me. Everyone else just calls to make fun of me.
“I’m fine. I just feel bad not going over to say hi, but I’m also too embarrassed to go. I don’t know what to say.”
Jing Xiaoyan raised an eyebrow, knowing she was still conflicted. The corners of her lips curved up slightly. “Don’t overthink it. It’s okay. I think she’s easy to talk to. And maybe she’s already checked out and left. You can knock on her door at noon to see.”
Jiang Yumian’s fingers picked at the bedsheets as she worried. “But what if she hasn’t left…”
The curve of Jing Xiaoyan’s lips deepened. “Then just exchange a few polite words with her and invite her to lunch. Then it’s done.”
“Don’t worry. Just listen to me. Thinking too much will only make you feel bad. You have to meet her sooner or later, so why put yourself through this for another couple of days?”
Jiang Yumian blinked. She suddenly felt that what Jing Xiaoyan said made sense. She was overthinking things too much. She never used to be like this…
“Okay, I’ll go check at noon.”
Jing Xiaoyan’s eyes shone with happiness, and she laughed cheerily.
Hearing her laugh, Jiang Yumian’s lips also curved into a smile.
They chatted for a little while longer before hanging up.
After the call, Jing Xiaoyan immediately called someone else.
She waited for a while, and the other person finally answered.
“Hello? What’s wrong? I’m still on set.”
The voice on the other end was a little noisy.
Jing Xiaoyan pursed her lips and went straight to the point. “I remember you said your girlfriend blocked you. Has she unblocked you yet?”
The other person was silent for a few seconds. “Jing Xiaoyan, are you sick? Why are you rubbing salt in my wound for no reason?”
Jing Xiaoyan’s eyes flashed, a mischievous smile on her face. “Why are you swearing? I just want to help you. Your girlfriend is on her way to me. Do you want me to send you the hotel location?”
Chu Qianyuan finally couldn’t hold it together anymore. “Hotel? I can’t even find her. Why would she go to a hotel to find you?”
They didn’t even know each other!
Jing Xiaoyan laughed. “Ah, guess.”
Chu Qianyuan took a deep breath. “You’re a lunatic!”
Guess? Guess my foot!
Jing Xiaoyan chuckled. “Are you coming or not?”
Chu Qianyuan gritted her teeth. “Location!”
Jing Xiaoyan quickly sent the hotel location, then hung up the phone.
It wasn’t that she was petty. She was just worried that if Su Mumu came, Jiang Yumian wouldn’t want to play with her anymore.
Besides, she could help the little couple make up. It had been half a month. If Chu Qianyuan couldn’t get her girlfriend to forgive her by now, she would be embarrassed for her.
Jing Xiaoyan went through her suitcase, but she couldn’t find a satisfactory outfit.
She stood with her arms crossed in thought. A flash of inspiration struck her, and she stood up and walked into the bathroom.
…
The closer it got to noon, the more nervous Jiang Yumian became. In her heart, she was praying that Jing Xiaoyan had checked out, but she also felt that was unlikely. The show was about to start filming; she wouldn’t have left.
“Oh my God, I was just kidding with you before. I don’t like Jing Xiaoyan! Can I just not cling to her, please?” Jiang Yumian covered her face with her hands, wailing to herself.
She regretted it. She hadn’t even started, and she was already making a fool of herself.
Outside the door.
Jiang Yumian hesitated, then finally hardened her heart. She closed her eyes, raised her hand, and knocked on the door. Then, she noticed there was a doorbell and quickly pressed it once.
Her heart was pounding, even more nervous than her first audition.
The door quickly opened.
It was so fast. Jiang Yumian had thought an assistant would open the door, but when she saw the face, her whole body froze.
Jing Xiaoyan was wearing a black bathrobe with gold trim, the collar slightly open. Her hair was still a little damp, as if she had just gotten out of the shower.
This is… a pure “bath” style?
Jiang Yumian swallowed hard. She was just about to say hello when a hand pulled her in. She quickly fell into a soft embrace.
Jiang Yumian was stunned. “?”
“You can just hug me directly if you want to.”
A voice filled with laughter exploded in her ear.
Boom!
Jiang Yumian’s mind went blank!
She hugged me!
This is not how this was supposed to start!
