Deliberate Possession [Entertainment Industry] - Chapter 65
Chapter 65: Unhappy
Hearing the tearful tone in Jiang Yumian’s voice, her aunt cleared her throat. “Mianmian, don’t speak in anger. Your aunt never said you two couldn’t be together.”
Jiang Yumian raised her hand to wipe the corner of her eyes, not cheered up by her aunt’s words.
Her aunt took a tissue and handed it to Jiang Yumian, speaking gently, “The reason I’m telling you this today is because I think you should know. Besides, you and Xiaoyan aren’t biological sisters. Your aunt and your mom are just asking if you want to be with her.”
Her mother, whose attention had been solely on Jiang Yumian’s face, finally spared a glance for her sister. She was a little surprised. She hadn’t agreed even after her mother had talked about it for so long.
Jiang Yumian sniffled, took the tissue from her aunt, and wiped her eyes. After a few seconds of silence, she looked up and asked in a muffled voice, “Jing Xiaoyan knew everything, didn’t she?”
Then she lowered her head and answered herself, “She knew everything.”
Her aunt was stunned for a moment, then nodded. “She knows. And I’m planning to divorce her father. Once we’re divorced, you and…”
Her mother was momentarily shocked. Frowning, she asked, “Divorce? Why are you divorcing?”
She quickly added, “Didn’t you two always get along well? You even said before that he treats you very well.”
Her aunt said vaguely, “Ah… but isn’t this good? Xiaoyan and Mianmian can be together without any problems in the future. And I don’t really have the right to interfere in Xiaoyan’s life, so why make things difficult for the children?”
Jiang Yumian pursed her lips. “Does Jing Xiaoyan know you’re divorcing?”
Hearing her less-than-friendly tone, her aunt hesitated for a while, then nodded.
Jiang Yumian composed herself and asked again, “Then what did she say?”
Her aunt smiled. “Of course, she had no objections. Isn’t this all working out well?”
Jiang Yumian gritted her teeth. She suddenly stood up. “If my aunt and uncle-in-law have to divorce because Jing Xiaoyan and I are together, then I can’t accept it. Besides, even if Jing Xiaoyan and I were really together, it wouldn’t change anything. We can’t get married domestically.”
Jiang Yumian moved her lips. She actually wanted to say that she wasn’t as selfish as Jing Xiaoyan and couldn’t sacrifice her family’s marriage for her own fulfillment.
But she couldn’t say those words. She felt that Jing Xiaoyan shouldn’t be that kind of person.
Her mother and aunt exchanged glances. Her mother stood up, pulled Jiang Yumian’s arm, and gently coaxed her, “Mianmian is right. Let’s sit down and talk properly.”
Jiang Yumian shook her head. “I have to go. There’s a show tomorrow.”
She paused, looked at her aunt who was clearly conflicted, and advised, “Aunt, there really is no need to do this. It’s unfair to you. Furthermore, Jing Xiaoyan and I are not even together.”
She took a light breath, tilted her head back to hold back tears, and whispered, “I don’t need to be with her.”
Her aunt opened her mouth. “Mianmian.”
Jiang Yumian waved her hand, rubbing her slightly wet eyes. “Don’t worry about my business anymore. I will figure out for myself whether or not to be with Jing Xiaoyan.”
“I’m leaving now. The driver is waiting outside for me.”
Watching Jiang Yumian leave, her mother sat back down, her gaze fixed on her sister.
Her face was cold, and her tone was stern. “Tell me yourself, why are you getting a divorce?”
Her aunt blinked. “Huh?”
She looked like she was playing dumb.
Her mother frowned, holding back her temper. “You don’t understand Mianmian. Saying that won’t make Mianmian happy; it will only make her blame herself, and it will make it even less likely for her to be with Xiaoyan.”
She added, “I know you. There’s no way you would divorce just for this, and Mianmian made it very clear that there’s no need.”
Her aunt opened her mouth guiltily. “Sister…”
Her mother snorted, not giving her a kind look. “I gave you some face just now because the child was here and didn’t expose you. When Mianmian comes back, you explain yourself to her.”
She had always respected her sister, but the underlying reason was ultimately Jiang Yumian. Otherwise, she wouldn’t even bother to intervene.
Her mother finished speaking and prepared to leave, feeling heartbroken at the sight of Jiang Yumian holding back her tears. Before leaving, she added, “Don’t leave until you’ve made things clear to Mianmian.”
Her aunt: “…”
The filming this time was in the same city. Jiang Yumian asked the driver to take her to the hotel. On the way, she kept her eyes closed, didn’t say a word, and didn’t look at her phone. She didn’t answer Jing Xiaoyan’s calls.
Her only consolation now was that she didn’t have to face Jing Xiaoyan immediately. She suddenly realized that she didn’t understand her at all.
When she arrived at the hotel, she first took a shower, then lay on the bed and slept. It wasn’t until the early hours of the morning that she opened her phone to a pile of messages.
Sister: “Did you go home for dinner?”
Sister: “What did you eat? Show me.”
Sister: “Hmm? No reply. Are you eating?”
Sister: “It’s been two hours. What is Mianmian doing?”
Sister: “Have you reached the hotel? Tell me when you get there.”
Sister: “Mianmian?”
Jiang Yumian bit her lip, covered her eyes with her hand, and couldn’t help but feel like crying. Why could Jing Xiaoyan pursue her with such impunity?
She took a light breath, wiped away her tears, and pressed her fingers on the screen. She didn’t want to play these silly games with Jing Xiaoyan anymore.
Sponge Baby: “Sister, I’m at the hotel. I fell asleep earlier.”
Sponge Baby: “There’s a live broadcast tomorrow. Will Sister watch?”
Sponge Baby: “If Sister doesn’t have time to watch, you can watch the replay. It’s the last live broadcast. I want you to truly experience what it’s like to have an electronic girlfriend.”
Early the next morning, all the guests were present except for Jing Xiaoyan, plus a special guest, Zhang Yan.
Jiang Yumian’s gaze lingered for a moment when she saw him, but she quickly looked away, not curious at all.
Chu Qianyun was talking to him on the side.
Chu Qianyun asked curiously, “Why is your female lead still filming, but you, the male lead, are here for a variety show?”
Zhang Yan shrugged and smiled. “I’ve wrapped up my scenes. I didn’t have many. Sister Xiaoyan had been adjusting her schedule to record the show, but this time she really couldn’t, so she couldn’t make it. Since you couldn’t find an artist on short notice and I was nearby, I came uninvited.”
When he finished speaking, everyone’s expressions were complex. Why did this Zhang Yan call Jing Xiaoyan that way…
His words sounded like there was something going on between him and Jing Xiaoyan.
Chu Qianyun felt goosebumps when she heard the address. Her expression was quite rich. She turned her head to glance at Jiang Yumian, and seeing no reaction from her, her eyes became even more complex.
She smiled coldly, not holding back at all. “Actually, the recording could have continued even if you didn’t come.”
Su Mumu quickly pulled her arm. There was no need to be so direct.
Lin Xi cleared her throat. “Oh, well, consider it promotion for the drama. It works out nicely.”
Her words were just to save Zhang Yan some face. What kind of drama starts promoting before it’s even finished filming? It was just to ease the atmosphere.
The live broadcast hadn’t started yet. Jiang Yumian glanced at her phone. Jing Xiaoyan had actually explained to her that she had just found out about Zhang Yan coming.
Jiang Yumian didn’t reply. It didn’t really matter anyway.
Su Mumu suddenly nudged her arm. Jiang Yumian turned to her. “What’s wrong?”
Su Mumu leaned close to her ear and whispered, “Are you angry?”
Jiang Yumian was taken aback, frowning as she asked, “What am I angry about?”
Su Mumu paused. Seeing her emotionless look, she couldn’t tease her about being jealous and only said, “I see you’re not talking. Are you in a bad mood?”
Jiang Yumian shook her head. “No.”
Hearing the indifferent tone and somewhat cold attitude, which was unlike Jiang Yumian, Su Mumu sighed softly. Her mood was clearly very poor.
Since it was the last live broadcast, the production team decided to give the cameras to the guests themselves, letting them play it by ear. This time they were at a large scenic area, big enough for them to explore.
Jiang Yumian took her own GoPro and filmed while walking, talking to the camera by herself as she walked in the front.
“That’s the ancient city wall over there. I’ll check where to go up later and take Jiejie to see it.”
As Jiang Yumian spoke, she turned the camera in the direction she was pointing.
“Jiejie, isn’t it magnificent?”
“Oops, judging by sight, it’s so far, Jiejie. I’ll check what’s fun nearby first.”
“Ahhh! Is this the hidden perk of the last live broadcast!”
“Help! Help! Mianmian calling Jiejie feels so good!”
“She’s calling for us to hear, right! Ahhh! Meimei, Meimei!”
“I think our relationship is a little ambiguous. I request to move to the next step—let’s date. I can be the bottom for love.”
“Mianmian, Jiejie can be the top for love too.”
“Off-topic! Off-topic! What’s wrong with the two ladies above!”
“I’m dizzy. I’m falling for her, sisters…”
“Does she call Jiejie all day? I can stay online all day!”
“Why only Jiejie? Can she call Baobao? Are we male fans not worthy…”
“Not worthy.”
“Not worthy.”
“Not worthy” +99
Jiang Yumian’s state shocked not only the fans but also the other guests.
However, they were only surprised that Jiang Yumian was clearly unhappy, yet her words made it seem like nothing was wrong.
Everyone pretty much sensed that Jiang Yumian was in a bad mood and seemed to have her own thoughts, so they all wisely kept their distance.
Only Zhang Yan, who hadn’t spent much time with Jiang Yumian, failed to notice. He kept walking next to her, occasionally talking to Jiang Yumian about how excellent Jing Xiaoyan was. Jiang Yumian understood what he meant, but she didn’t show any negative emotions, just brushed him off.
Eventually, Ling Yisong couldn’t stand Zhang Yan’s lack of tact anymore. He found an opportunity to pull Zhang Yan away, preventing him from disturbing Jiang Yumian further.
As Zhang Yan walked with Ling Yisong, he kept thinking about how to remind Jiang Yumian not to string Jing Xiaoyan along anymore.
He really couldn’t stand seeing the girl he liked constantly chasing someone else, especially when she wasn’t succeeding.
But Jiang Yumian was focused on holding up her GoPro and calling out to her Jiejie, ignoring any hints he gave.
He just wanted to tell Jiang Yumian that if she didn’t like such an excellent girl, he would pursue her. He didn’t believe he couldn’t get Jing Xiaoyan. He had been deliberately praising her on the live broadcast earlier, and he and Jing Xiaoyan also had many fan-shipped couples.
Jiang Yumian glanced at them, her eyes darkening, and she quickly looked away.
She walked onto the ancient city wall. The wind blew her hair across her face. She pushed her hair back and shared the distant blue sky and white clouds with the audience watching the live broadcast.
Jiang Yumian took a deep breath. “This place is so beautiful. It must be gorgeous if there’s a sunset. I really want to watch the sunset here with Jiejie.”
“It’s sunny today, so we might actually see the sunset. Jiejie, do you want to see it?”
Jing Xiaoyan had just sat down to rest, still wearing her costume. She was wearing headphones, engrossed in the live stream on her tablet.
Sunset, huh…
“Xiao Feng, how long does it take to get there from here?”
Jing Xiaoyan showed the live stream to Xiao Feng. She didn’t have many afternoon scenes. The rest were mostly in the evening and early morning. If the travel time wasn’t too long, they might make it.
It was in a scenic area in the same city, so it wasn’t too far.
Xiao Feng checked the map on her phone. “It takes two hours on the highway. If we leave after filming the afternoon scenes, we can arrive around five. But it also takes two hours to come back, so we won’t be able to stay long.”
Jing Xiaoyan nodded. That time frame should be okay.
Although the location of the live broadcast was a scenic area, there were many restricted areas because there were many people, including many fans. They could only look from a distance.
Jiang Yumian didn’t stay alone the whole time. She rested for a while, put away her GoPro, and stayed with the fixed camera for most of the day, participating in some of the activities the production team wanted them to do.
When fans started flooding the comments, urging her to continue playing on her own, she seemed to be able to see the bullet screen and actually turned her GoPro back on.
But she only held it in her hand, rarely speaking.
However, to the wealthy Jiejie fans, Jiang Yumian was being a very dedicated electronic girlfriend today.
Lin Xi and Luo Cheng sandwiched Jiang Yumian between them.
Jiang Yumian turned her head to look at them, looking confused. What were they trying to do?
Lin Xi sighed softly. “Seeing that you didn’t eat much for lunch, this little cake is for you.”
Jiang Yumian was stunned for a moment. Before she could react, Luo Cheng handed her a cup of milk tea.
Luo Cheng raised her chin, gesturing. “This is on me.”
Jiang Yumian took the milk tea. She blinked. Luo Cheng used to say that a cup of milk tea always made her feel better when she was in a bad mood. So, was it that obvious?
“But I can’t hold it all…” Jiang Yumian deliberately clutched the air with her empty hand. She couldn’t hold so much with one hand.
Lin Xi was silent. She didn’t have to pretend to be happy.
But she didn’t expose her. She just looked like she couldn’t help it. “Oh, alright then. I’ll reluctantly feed you the little cake. This one is delicious.”
Jiang Yumian turned the small camera towards the cake. “Mhm, it looks pretty good. Jiejie, do you want to eat it? I’ll try it for you.”
Lin Xi’s hand holding the spoon froze for a moment. She probably guessed Jiang Yumian was talking to Jing Xiaoyan, but something felt off. Jiang Yumian’s state made her feel like Jing Xiaoyan was going to be in trouble today.
She cleared her throat, trying to cover for Jiang Yumian, and teased, “Your fans are eating so well.”
Luo Cheng wasn’t to be outdone. “Hey! My milk tea! Film it! The drink is great too!”
Jiang Yumian quickly moved the camera over, a smile on her face. “Drink, drink, drink. Hurry up and put the straw in.”
With them accompanying her all afternoon, Jiang Yumian was actually fine. However, the closer it got to the end of the live broadcast, the more depressed her mood became.
Returning the way they came, Jiang Yumian said she wanted to see the sunset, and others also said they wanted to go up to the city wall to see it. Since they were already here, it would be a shame not to.
Climbing onto the ancient city wall, Jiang Yumian’s peripheral vision suddenly caught a glimpse of a familiar figure. Her hand holding the small camera tightened, and her eyes trembled violently.
She walked to the side, calmly adjusting the camera’s position. Sensing Jing Xiaoyan walking up to her, she turned her head to look at her.
Meeting those smiling eyes, Jiang Yumian was lost in thought. There was a bit of smugness in Jing Xiaoyan’s smile, as if she was asking her if she was surprised.
Jiang Yumian clenched her fingers. She was indeed surprised.
And it also made her feel a little overwhelmed.
Everyone else came over to greet Jing Xiaoyan, asking how she was able to come.
Jing Xiaoyan looked at Jiang Yumian for a few seconds, then turned her head and replied, “I happened to have some time. Since it’s the last live broadcast, I came to show my face.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Zhang Yan walked directly next to Jing Xiaoyan. Although he didn’t touch Jiang Yumian, he clearly squeezed her out, placing himself between the two of them.
Zhang Yan smiled at her. “It must have taken you a long time to get here. I remember you have a scene tonight.”
He didn’t even see Jiang Yumian say hello to her, so he didn’t feel there was any problem with blocking Jiang Yumian. Seeing that Jiang Yumian didn’t seem to care, he thought he wouldn’t offend this young miss.
However, this might displease Jing Xiaoyan, as he was blocking the person she specifically came to see. But he wasn’t afraid. It was a live broadcast. Jing Xiaoyan couldn’t say much to him.
The overly confident Zhang Yan completely failed to notice the cold look Jiang Yumian was giving him from behind. The look of being overwhelmed had vanished completely.
Jiang Yumian pursed her lips. The words that had almost choked her earlier due to Jing Xiaoyan’s sudden appearance, now that she had calmed down, seemed to be possible to say again.
She turned her head, no longer looking at them.
Jing Xiaoyan nodded casually, not showing any displeasure on her face, but she had already walked past Zhang Yan, circled around to Jiang Yumian’s other side, and stood close to her.
Ling Yisong was once again pushed out to be the convenient distraction. He took Zhang Yan to the other side, gritting his teeth as he smiled. “Brother Zhang Yan, let’s go over here. This spot is perfect for watching the sunset.”
When the person next to her left, Jing Xiaoyan tilted her head, her eyes sparkling. She smiled at Jiang Yumian, and the hand hanging by her side gently rubbed the back of Jiang Yumian’s hand.
She softly called her, “Mianmian.”
Her tone was full of joy. She was very happy that she managed to arrive on time and be with Jiang Yumian.
Jiang Yumian softly said, “Mhm,” and smiled. Jing Xiaoyan didn’t notice the insincere smile.
She rested her hand on the camera, gazing at the sky, and whispered to herself, “It’s really nice. We really have a sunset today. Jiejie, let’s watch it together.”
Jing Xiaoyan’s heart skipped a beat. She frowned slightly, looking at Jiang Yumian with a very complex expression. She didn’t understand. Why so sudden?
As if to answer her confusion, Jiang Yumian turned off her GoPro and the microphone on her body. She turned her head, looked at Jing Xiaoyan, and repeated her previous words. “Let’s stop here, Jiejie.”
Jing Xiaoyan opened her mouth, her eyes full of panic. The hand holding hers suddenly slipped away, leaving an empty space in her heart.
Mianmian knew.
She reached out, wanting to grab her to explain, but Jiang Yumian dodged quickly.
“Jing Xiaoyan, stay away from me.”
