Chapter 15: Holding Hands

The “own people” Chu Qianyun referred to meant that the other four were people they knew and were familiar with. After all, she had put so much effort into this variety show. If they invited someone who was likely to have a scandal, the entire season would be for nothing.

Jing Xiaoyan led the staff to the sofa. Seeing Jiang Yumian’s shocked gesture with her hand over her mouth, she raised an eyebrow slightly. Is she acting already?

Su Mumu coughed and patted Jiang Yumian’s arm, whispering in her ear, “Mianmian, you’re overdoing it.”

It was only a surprise live broadcast; there was no need to be so dramatic. A little surprise was enough.

Jiang Yumian lightly exclaimed “Ah.” She really was shocked.

This show’s director is amazing!

The four sat obediently on the sofa, had their microphones clipped on by the staff, and looked at the camera in confusion. They knew they would be coming, but they didn’t know what kind of stunt they would pull.

Jiang Yumian tugged at the collar where the microphone was clipped and pointed at the camera, “Is it starting to broadcast now?”

Without needing the staff to answer, Jing Xiaoyan handed her phone to her. It showed the live broadcast screen.

Jiang Yumian glanced at her and took the phone. The screen showed the four of them. The barrage of comments below was mostly fans cheering for them, and half were surprised that the broadcast started so suddenly.

Staff member: “Ahem, yes, the live broadcast has already started. Please cooperate and put away your phones.”

Jiang Yumian returned the phone to Jing Xiaoyan. No need, then no need.

Chu Qianyun looked at the mission card casually placed on the table, reached out and took it. “Is this a mission card? Where is our Director Lu?”

She looked at the mission card, unable to believe it: “Going to the filming location now? We have to go separately?”

Staff member: “Yes, Director Lu is waiting for everyone at the hotel in the filming location.”

Su Mumu leaned forward to see. “What does it say?”

“Welcome everyone to ‘Didn’t See That Coming’ – The Adventure Edition. I am Director Lu Zhi. Long story short, please gather at the designated location before six o’clock this evening. The eight guests can only use four different methods to travel to the destination. The last four to arrive will lose the program’s financial support.”

“What does that mean? Only two people can use one mode of transportation?” Jiang Yumian looked at the mission card again. “Does that mean it starts now?”

Jing Xiaoyan looked up, “Isn’t that unfair? The other four aren’t at the same location as us.”

The staff member smiled: “The other four teachers are already on their way. ‘Didn’t see that coming,’ right? It’s just unfair.”

Chu Qianyun suddenly slapped the mission card onto the table.

The others looked at her in confusion.

Chu Qianyun pulled Su Mumu up: “What are you looking at! Let’s go! That woman, Lu Zhi, has a lot of tricks up her sleeve!”

Jiang Yumian blinked. They’ve already paired up?

Did she and Jing Xiaoyan just automatically become partners?

Jiang Yumian was inwardly delighted. Heaven is helping me.

Jing Xiaoyan looked at her, her eyes curved into a smile, “Let’s go too. We’ll take a taxi.”

Staff member: “Ahem, one guest has already chosen this mode of transportation. Currently, only one of you can take a taxi.”

Jiang Yumian was a little anxious: “What about the subway?”

Staff member shook his head: “No one has chosen that yet.”

Jiang Yumian quickly grabbed Jing Xiaoyan and pushed her into the room, “Sister, hurry up and grab your luggage. We’ll leave right away. We can’t let Mumu and them beat us to it.”

The honorific “Sister” came out naturally. Jiang Yumian froze for a moment, and then opened her mouth, not knowing how to explain.

Jing Xiaoyan looked at her with a beaming smile, very satisfied, “Okay.”

A few minutes later, at the elevator entrance.

When Jiang Yumian and Jing Xiaoyan arrived, Chu Qianyun and Su Mumu were waiting for the elevator. The four people who had been chatting happily earlier were now silently keeping their distance.

Perhaps feeling itchy, Chu Qianyun glanced at Jing Xiaoyan, “How are you two planning to go?”

Jiang Yumian smiled, answering for Jing Xiaoyan: “We haven’t decided yet.”

Chu Qianyun nodded, “Oh, well, Mumu and I are leaving first.”

She ended with a smug reminder, “Remember to check out of the room.”

Jing Xiaoyan slowly turned her head to look at her, giving them a half-smile. They must have forgotten how they got up to the hotel that day. The front desk wouldn’t let them take the elevator without her permission.

The reason the production team could come up was because Xiao Feng had given them the room card. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to take the elevator.

The group stepped into the elevator. Seeing Jing Xiaoyan standing still, Chu Qianyun finally realized.

Jing Xiaoyan feigned a sigh, “Oh dear. Either you wait for me, or none of you are going down.”

Jiang Yumian stood beside her and smiled, catching Jing Xiaoyan’s triumphant little expression. She suddenly found her to be genuinely cute.

In the end, all four of them stood at the front desk, obediently waiting for Jing Xiaoyan to check out.

Chu Qianyun wanted to run, but Jiang Yumian was smart. She pulled Mumu aside to chat, holding on tight and not letting go.

She glanced at Jing Xiaoyan, then at Jiang Yumian. These two were cooperating well.

If it weren’t for the cameras, she would really ask Jing Xiaoyan what was going on between them.

“How are you two planning to go?” Jiang Yumian whispered to Su Mumu.

Su Mumu raised an eyebrow, also leaning in to whisper, “Taking the production team’s car. She’s going to try and snatch it later.”

Jiang Yumian curved her lips into a smile. “We’re planning to take the subway.”

Su Mumu nodded, giving Jiang Yumian an OK sign.

Their subtle actions were all seen by the audience in the live broadcast room.

“OMG, you scared me. I thought they had bumped into each other.”

“LOL. The two over there are still being secretive, but their teammates behind them have already spilled all the beans.”

“I think the subway is faster. The subway won’t be stuck in traffic, hahahaha.”

“It doesn’t matter how fast it is; the others are already on their way.”

“Front-line report! Luo Cheng and Lin Xi have each taken a taxi. The other two men are still on the high-speed rail, but they’ll be able to walk to the destination after they arrive at the station.”

“Oh! The situation is getting intense!”

“Hey, hey, hey! Why is Su Mumu dragging Chu Qianyun to take the subway?”

“Mumu, where are we going?” Chu Qianyun looked at the hand holding hers, her face filled with confusion and surprise. Mumu is holding hands with me in front of the camera!

Su Mumu: “Taking the subway. The subway is fast.”

Jing Xiaoyan took two steps and looked back at Jiang Yumian. Finally, she glanced at the two people walking ahead of her, secretly sighing in her heart, and slowed down to walk side-by-side with Jiang Yumian.

“Mianmian, is your suitcase too heavy?” She thoughtfully reached out to take Jiang Yumian’s luggage, but her outstretched hand was suddenly taken.

Jiang Yumian’s expression was normal, and she complained naturally, “No, it seems like one of the wheels is broken.”

Jing Xiaoyan looked down at the suitcase, a flicker of helplessness in her eyes, but she quickly accepted the situation. Slow is slow.

She looked again at the hand that was inexplicably holding hers. She felt something strange but couldn’t bring herself to say anything, afraid that if she did, Jiang Yumian would let go.

Su Mumu was pulling Chu Qianyun, insisting on buying tickets at the automated machine. This made Chu Qianyun very anxious. She tugged at Su Mumu’s hand, “Mumu, we can enter the station by scanning our phones.”

Su Mumu shook her head: “My phone ran out of battery and turned off. It’s okay, I’ve already bought the tickets. You just pay for them.”

Chu Qianyun could only obey. After Su Mumu got the tickets, they proceeded to the security check.

Before she could stand still, she was suddenly nudged by the appearance of Jiang Yumian, watching helplessly as she followed behind Su Mumu and put her suitcase on the conveyor belt.

Then, she watched as Su Mumu gave the subway card that was supposed to be hers to Jiang Yumian.

Jing Xiaoyan followed closely. Seeing this, she was also confused. When Jiang Yumian let go of her hand and ran forward, she knew something was seriously wrong.

Chu Qianyun turned to look at her, asking knowingly, “Oh dear, were you abandoned too?”

Jing Xiaoyan resisted the urge to roll her eyes and ignored her.

She looked eagerly at the two people who had entered the station, watching them turn around and smile at them. She couldn’t help but smile too. It had just started, and they were already playing like this.

Su Mumu triumphantly waved at them, “Bye-bye.”

Jiang Yumian smiled at Jing Xiaoyan, pointing to her own palm.

Jing Xiaoyan looked down at her own hand and sighed softly, “Did Mumu hold your hand?”

Chu Qianyun nodded matter-of-factly, “Yes, she did.”

She looked down, mimicking Jing Xiaoyan’s action, and glanced at her palm. There was a smear of lipstick. She was dumbfounded, “Do they have some kind of mission?”

Jing Xiaoyan shook her head, “Regardless of the mission, we’ve probably already fallen into a trap.”

On the subway.

Jiang Yumian opened the mission card that the staff member had secretly slipped to her in the room. It hadn’t been recorded on camera at the time, but now she needed to show it to the audience.

“Congratulations to you and your teammate, Su Mumu, for being the chosen ones for this live test broadcast. The two of you must successfully team up and reach the destination, or you will be forcibly eliminated.

Eliminating one guest will earn a double reward. Elimination conditions: 1. Hold hands for one minute, 2. Stamp a red mark on the other person’s palm, 3. Not be questioned by the other person.
