- Chapter 1 - Transmigrated into a Book and I am a Cat?
“Ugh, so painful!”
Shi Yu furrowed his brows tightly, feeling pain that seemed to penetrate deep into his marrow, as if countless ants were frantically gnawing at every inch of his flesh.
The young man had delicate features and thin, reddish lips. His originally pristine white clothes were now soaked in large patches of blood. The semi-transparent fabric clung to his slender waist and abdomen, further accentuating his breathtaking beauty.
At this moment, he lay on the ground in a state of utter disarray, yet even in such a wretched state, he still radiated a stunning, ethereal charm.
Shi Yu slowly opened his eyes. All around was silent and empty.
As his consciousness gradually cleared, the pain in his body became even sharper and more intense. Cold sweat poured down his forehead like rain, and his complexion was as pale as paper.
Shi Yu struggled to prop himself up, leaning against the wall to survey the unfamiliar surroundings. It was a crude, dilapidated chamber with very few belongings, all of which were worn and crumbling.
The door stood wide open, and the morning sun slanted into the room, revealing tiny dust motes dancing in the light.
Where exactly was this place?
“Shi Yu, welcome to the Smart Pit-Filling System. Immersive mode has been activated. Task difficulty: Beginner. Estimated mission duration: Ten years.”
“During the mission, the system is responsible for issuing tasks and will not provide any assistance. Failure of a single task will result in corresponding penalties based on the completion status.”
A cold, mechanical voice suddenly resounded in Shi Yu’s mind.
“Pit-filling system?”
Shi Yu was completely bewildered. He had clearly been working overtime at his company last night reviewing a project. If everything went smoothly today, the company could begin preparing for its IPO. How could he have ended up in this godforsaken place just after a night’s sleep?
“Please note: During the mission, you must strictly follow the requirements to advance the main plot and avoid any character OOC (Out Of Character) behavior that might disrupt this small world.”
“Ding! Early-stage plot has been transmitted.”
The mechanical voice, indifferent to Shi Yu’s confusion and bewilderment, continued on its own.
As soon as the words fell, a massive amount of information was forcibly crammed into Shi Yu’s brain.
As the plot unfolded in his mind, Shi Yu genuinely felt the heartbreak and sorrow of the original owner.
Shi Yu finally understood the current situation: the author of this book had abandoned the story halfway through, and the system had brought him here to advance the plot and, incidentally, fill the plot holes.
The character he was currently playing was the Crown Prince of the Mengze Dynasty. His mother, the Empress, had been framed by villains, accused of murdering the Emperor’s favorite concubine, Consort Li. With no power to prove her innocence, and to prevent the Emperor from taking out his rage on her son, she had chosen to take her own life.
But since ancient times, none are as ruthless as the imperial family.
She had ultimately underestimated the Emperor’s cruelty. Once praised by all, Shi Yu had already lost his status as Crown Prince, abandoned in a remote corner of the royal city, left to fend for himself.
The scenes in his mind gradually merged with the surroundings where Shi Yu now found himself. The transmission of the early-stage plot was complete.
Shi Yu rubbed his head, which throbbed from receiving too much information. Before he could properly digest it, the cold, mechanical voice sounded again.
“Mission reminder: The first task is about to begin.”
Shi Yu gradually regained his senses, frowning as he looked at his own small, wounded body. The pain came rushing back like a tide.
“System, how old is this body?”
“Twelve.”
Truly a pitiful little thing.
Shi Yu struggled to stand up. He took one look at his own clothes, covered in sticky, dried blood, and could not help but show a look of disgust.
Just as he prepared to go out to check the surroundings, he heard the sound of pebbles falling outside.
Shi Yu cautiously moved his battered body toward the doorway.
On the low wall outside, a black-haired boy dressed in ink-colored robes was squatting there.
The youth, appearing to be around fourteen or fifteen, had a tall and sturdy build. His facial features were youthful but carried a hint of wildness. He was currently frowning slightly, looking somewhat irritable.
Shi Yu looked at this boy and had only taken a few cautious steps forward when he suddenly felt that something was wrong with his body; it felt as if he had grown something strange.
He raised a hand to touch his head, and his fair fingers suddenly encountered soft fur.
Shi Yu was startled by this strange sensation. He felt it again carefully, and only then was he certain.
These are ears? Fluffy ears?
He hurriedly checked his lower back, only to discover that a tail had indeed sprouted there. In an instant, his entire composure shattered.
“System, what is going on?”
Mo Yuan, perched on the wall, clearly had not noticed the movement to his side. He nimbly flipped down, landing lightly in the courtyard.
As soon as he turned his head, he saw the person standing at the doorway. Was that a human? Or a cat?
Before Shi Yu could wait for the system’s reply, he encountered this embarrassing social death moment. He frantically tried to brush the tail behind him, but it continued to twitch energetically.
Looking at the flustered and helpless boy before him, Mo Yuan lowered his eyes slightly, concealing the emotions in them.
When he looked up at Shi Yu again, he smiled with a flirtatious glint in his eyes. “Little brat, are you Shi Yu?”
Shi Yu found that he had no control over the tail, forced to let it sway wantonly behind him.
Seeing the obvious mockery in Mo Yuan’s eyes, he wished he could knock the person in front of him unconscious.
He cast a cold, wet glare at Mo Yuan, but did not respond.
“You do not need to be nervous; it will disappear in a while.”
Mo Yuan looked at him in a lazy, arrogant manner, his tone carrying a frivolous inflection.
His peach-blossom eyes were locked onto Shi Yu’s cat ears and tail, finding them immensely interesting.
Upon hearing Mo Yuan’s words, Shi Yu calmed down slightly, though he still had not received a reply from the system.
With his cold, delicate eyes fixed on Mo Yuan, he asked in return, “Do you know what is going on here?”
Seeing that he had finally gotten his attention, Mo Yuan crossed his arms over his chest and slowly approached Shi Yu, his eyes full of laughter.
“Not entirely sure; I need to take a closer look.”
Shi Yu’s cat ears twitched involuntarily, and Mo Yuan felt his heart itch with interest.
This new junior brother is truly interesting; so much fun!
Shi Yu watched the boy slowly approaching him, his eyes filled with vigilance.
Mo Yuan stopped in front of him. Just as he raised his hand, Shi Yu’s body shuddered slightly, and his cat ears tilted back.
Shi Yu himself had not even reacted; the movement was entirely an instinctive reflex of his body.
The original owner had suffered too much bullying and harassment over this period, and now feared everyone, even developing a trauma response.
The corners of Mo Yuan’s mouth curled slightly, a flash of playfulness in his eyes. He scrutinized the little guy in front of him with great interest.
A glimmer of pity arose in Mo Yuan’s heart, but it was overshadowed by an irrepressible curiosity.
He slowly reached out and gently stroked the little guy’s fluffy ears. The soft sensation against his fingertips made his heart flutter, and his smile widened.
While laughing, he used his fingers to tease the soft fur, fully enjoying this unique amusement.
“Do not be nervous, I am not a bad guy.”
“Bad people never admit they are bad people.”
Shi Yu lifted his eyes, staring fixedly at him, then tilted his head to dodge the hand that was trying to continue kneading him.
Mo Yuan withdrew his hand, feeling slightly sheepish. “If I am not mistaken, your mother must have been a cat demon, which is why you have these cat-like traits.”
Shi Yu thought back carefully; his mother was indeed a cat demon sent by the Demon Clan for a political marriage with Yunlan.
He looked up at the spirited, radiant boy in front of him. “I am Shi Yu. What do you want with me?”
“My name is Mo Yuan. Come with me, you poor little kitten. My master is waiting for you.”
“I am not that much younger than you; do not call me that.” Shi Yu’s voice was weak but carried an undeniable warning.
“Who is your master?”
“Mission initiated. Please follow Mo Yuan to Lingxi Mountain.”
Just as Shi Yu’s words faded, that cold, stiff mechanical voice resounded in his mind again.
